If they can not get the news right and have to continually put their personal spin on it, it is truly worthless. They should have all their funding took away. Now that I read a lot more on computer news I have seen this in MSM from all government funded news sources. Merle Underwood.

Look, this is not a flippant comparison by any means, but Obama is the new Mussolini/Hitler in that he seeks merely to win the masses by his appeal as a leader, to Hell with his ideas, "just trust me" is his secondary message. He dismisses reasoned debate by labeling it "divisiveness" just as the Fascists/Communists conveniently labeled their ideological enemies "reactionary." Don't forget, Fascism values blind action over thoughtful debate.

If we were only so lucky.
Take a look at the communist manifesto. We've covered most of the action items on the list.
We're communists, who would be lucky to live in a proper fascist state.
Canada is, statistically, more communist than China. Cubans arguably have greater freedom of speech than Canadians do.
We are among the least free people on the planet and in this context, what do you have against fascism, anyway?

When they watch and hear the sermons of Obama's pastor, who is a real piece of work, and digest the fact that this intelligent man and his wife have been sitting under the teaching (and close friendship) of this man for at least 20 years, some of the rosy glow might fade.
Unless the idea of a President who has been taught by a white-American-hating maniac appeals to them.

Doug - The march towards Fascism is now such a happy dance, who can refuse?
Men without Hats had it bang on:
We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance
If ever there was a song that summed up the dance that the lefties do on a day to day basis this is it!!!

That's the quality of those who produce the stuff we pay for. Newman seems to believe that those who believe in legal immigration, secure borders and upholding the law eqitably is "xenophobic".
That was the last straw for me. Newman's no professional and I'm surprised this incident hasn't come up.

Posted by: Bruce Randall at March 17, 2008 12:29 PMfdsa- are you serious? About fascism?
It's similar to communism in that both are a socialist or group-based ideology kept in place by authoritarian rule. Of course, both posit that 'when purity exists, the authoritarian rule will no longer be necessary'. Heh.
The difference between these two communitarian ideologies is minor. Communism posits that History naturally evolves from a primitive individualistic mode to a social, communal mode. The notion of 'progress' to this Final Purity is communist.
Fascism posits an a priori purity (rather than a posteriori). It is located within a people or a nation; it is an 'essentialist Will', focused around a Chosen People or Nation.
The group is primary, the private sphere is reduced to zero (same as communism). Fascism is against progress, focusing instead on that Original Purity which must be, somehow, expressed. Establishing a nation where that Original Purity can be expressed is a paramount duty of all citizens.
Both reject dissent, questions and debate and instead, focus on 'group-think' homogeneity, with everyone focused on The Pure That is Good.
Both are against democracy, both are against reason; instead, focusing on a fatalistic Will.
Both acknowledge struggle and war as basic necessities to enable the Pure to exist.

Posted by: OMMAG at March 17, 2008 12:52 PMIt was Karl Marx who first called for universal suffrage, an extremely new and untested idea. How is it working out? Badly.
Liberal democracy is synonymous with communism; all liberal democracies tend toward totalitarianism: high taxes, restricted speech, gun control, race and gender quotas.
While it is quaint to listen to The Discredited Generation attempt to equate Fascism with Communism, it is fantasy that is not borne out by statistics, history, or anthropology.
Canada is communist. Liberal democracy is, statistically, a front for communism.
Caesar didn't tax men 40 to 50% of their income. Neither did Ghengis Khan, or Hitler or Mussolini. Or Ahmadinejad for that matter. Only so-called liberal democracies do that. Therefore it is mathematically proven that liberal democracies are less free than fascist entities.

But getting back on topic: I've seen this movie. Baby boomer expressing shock that the CBC is somewhat biased. In 2008. And it just doesn't resonate at all. EMG and every friggin' sentinent Canadian knew thirty years ago that the CBC was biased as all hell.
They created this mess, and it is not at all acceptable to me that Baby Boomer Canadians would seek praise and even profit for criticizing the system that they, Little Eichmanns each and every one of them, created.
Posted by: fdsafaf at March 17, 2008 1:44 PMNot so fastfdsafaf, you're a bit OT, doncha think? Anyway, we've had this debate before. Socialism/Communism and Fascism share a lot of common characteristics, but no they are not the "same." Both are collective, authoritative, totaliatarian, and their utopian promises usually end in violent suppression of thought and dissent. It's easy not to tax someone when you own their factors of production, because then you own their surplus value of labour. Marx abhored this in the hands of capitalists, but it was OK in the benevolent hands of the dictatorship of the proletariat.
Just who here is trying to equate liberal democracy with fascism. You need to check your equations again.

Yea these are close to Nick Nanos questions, they quit bothering me when I told them to stuff their stinking liberal love in polls along with Alan Greigs liberal lickfests.
Posted by: bartinsky at March 17, 2008 2:29 PMThere will be no Canadian Obama....his appeal is rooted in the image that he represents a move beyond the past...a "post racial" candidate.
So what gets poured into him is the hope that his success or ascendency means that the America has placed its racism behind it. Now whether that is true or not, whether he really is or not are different debates and stories. But Canada doesnt have that same thing to overcome.
Trudeau was different, captured some of the flippancy of the times, the were flippant and indulgent times (hair, peace...wtf? )
The closest Canada came to that was Campbell....representing the apparent ascendency of a competent woman to the top job in the country....we all know how that worked out when combined with an incompetent campaign....brand didnt equal reality.
Obama is dancing close to the edge recently. remember he is mixed race....his mother was white...to the extent that matters he is playing to his "black side" at the moment. Although there was a time when he was questioned about being black enough (whatever that means).
So the hope bubble, as some refer to it, continues until he meets some real issues. The nice thing about running for president and the length of time it takes is that it does tend to magnify all strengths and weakenesses.
Hillary, well there is the Kim Campbell of the US. Bright, more politically savvy than Kim, but just as inexperienced as Kim. But there are lots of 45 + women in the US who are as wrapped up in her "hope" bubble as under 30's (the United Bennetton group) are.
At the end of the day, it will be a good fight.
CBC, well we already knew they were pretty hopeless. The annex/cabbagetown/beaches crowd is also caught up in Obama's appeal, "wouldn't it be nice....oh pass me some of that Chilean Sea Bass...as I was saying wouldnt it be nice to see some change in the US. I was talkng to the nanny yesterday and she was really excited about it. I think it would be fun and interesting. Oh...mmmm this is good Sea bass, pass the chardonnay please, it is an 82....as I was saying, I also think we need to change the colour in the living room. I was watching HGTV and it is time to cover over the faux finish and put up something new."
