It is not!

I wish it was!

it's march - i'm tired of shovelling snow!
bring on the global warming - at least until next november.

Sigh. The Church of Environmentalism and socialism. Brought to you in a University near you.

My precious daughter called the other night. I was shocked to learn that in less than one year at Western she had been absorbed into the environmental panic. She was writing a paper for her professor on importance of having a world environmental regulator. A bit of questioning later and it was obvious that she thought it would be a great idea to shut down all polluters planet wide. Specifically, when questioned she favored shutting down the pulp mill in her home town. She argued strenuously that corporations should be forced to pay for the costs of buying CFC free refrigerators for the Chinese and Indians.

One year and she is already convinced that we need a UN of the environment and that corporations are evil.

Daddy is in this moment considering turning the tap off for her education. A year or two in the salt mines might be the only antidote.

No matter how many satellite images they show you, the earth is too flat!!!

Posted by: Richard Evans at March 7, 2008 6:40 PM

RCGZ....great idea. Make her go out and earnher tuition and living off the "eveeellll" corporations, then she what she writes. You might also want to be around when she gets her 1st paycheck, and see how much is missing in taxes,CPP,EI,etc.
I still maintain, no one, and I mean NO ONE should be allowed to enter college/university until they have paid at least two full years of taxes, and bike their way there. In winter.

If I may speak plainly among friends, the Prince is now officially one of the stooges.

"... this is sheer madness. The scientific facts are as plain as they are alarming. Worryingly in the last few months we have learnt that the North Polar ice cap is melting so fast that some scientists are predicting that in seven years it will completely disappear in summer."

Wake up and smell the coffee, folks. The Windsors, some of them at least, have been enviro-stooges for years. Chuck comes by it honestly; remember that his dad, Prince Phil, is the head of WWF, formerly known as World Wildlife Fund and now known as World Wide Fund for Nature. Prince Phil was the lunatic in 1990 who at a public dinner wished that he could be reincarnated as a lethal disease to reduce the surplus population of humanity. It's nothing more than you can expect from too many cousins intermarrying for far too many generations.

Posted by: cgh at March 7, 2008 7:11 PM

The Prince is exemplifying the reasons that hereditary monarchy is relegated to figurehead status in the free world. He's not amenable to reason on some issues, he doesn't consider the costs associated with his great ideas, and he's entirely too free with other people's time and property.

Guys like that used to run Europe, y'know. Makes a whole lot of European history a lot more understandable, eh? Thank God for George Washington.

** No matter how many slides he shows her, it is just not going to work **

She*ll just finish the pizza, down the last of her beer, say thanks, and ask you to drive her home. = TG

Now how do we as a society ensure our children get a balanced education once they get there? That's got me stumped. I'm not sure there is a professor in the system who isn't stark raving. The entire environment inside University walls is a socialist swamp lead by the educators themselves. If they caught my daughter it's a powerful petri dish designed to produce green radicals and government workers. Yecch.

"The entire environment inside University walls is a socialist swamp lead by the educators themselves."

The solution is to stop funding the liberal arts colleges and faculties for a generation and bring back compulsory military service to replace them. As for the lefty professors thereby rendered redundant, their Volvos will no longer be contributing to GHG accumulation, so they should feel good about their new contribution to the welfare of Gaia.

As for Prince Chuckie, well, it's more than his ears that are batty. Isn't he the one that wants to be known, when his time comes, as "Defender of Faiths" so that he can include Islam in his royal resume?

The data supplied is severely cropped deliberately to give a false impression. The actual RSS MSU data uncropped shows significant global temperature rises.
If you are going to fudge numbers, don't use charts people can actually look at.

Guess that oil company backing isn't paying like it used to.
Though I am unsure why you are referencing fringe nutjob articles now, I am rather annoyed. You should have known better.

Silencer

If you are going to proclaim the data is fixed and there is an alternative...please supply a link to the alternative so you appear to have at least a modicum of credibility.

Thanks,
Your friend

Silencer, it isn't just the data that is being fudged. The basic assumption of the climate models is wrong: the computer models assume an infinitely-thick atmosphere!

http://tinyurl.com/2foo2k

By modifying the models (adding a term for the thickness of the atmosphere), "[t]he new theory predicts that greenhouse gas increases should result in small, but very rapid temperature spikes, followed by much longer, slower periods of cooling -- exactly what the paleoclimatic record demonstrates".

This modified theory not only matches the (valid) data for the Earth, it also works on the atmosphere of Mars:

Ah, I didn't read Silencer's whole comment before replying. Dude, you really ought to check out climateaudit.org.

I am also on the verge of paying for the university education of a youngster. I'm not too worried, but if I see nonsense happening I'll pull my money out and let him damn (or thank) me as a father later.

That sentence is an excellent summation of the deranged weltanschauung of the AGW fanatic. The essense of science is that theories have to fit the facts and when new information comes to light, a real scientist modifies his theories. Eventually the discrepancy between predictions of the AGW theory and actual climate will be so large that any surviving AGW fanatic will be strung up from the nearest lampost once they're spotted. I only hope that when this happens they're hoisted up with the help of an SUV rather than an angry malnourished mob dressed in rags.

The links from the planet gore link are well worth perusing as the Danish national space center has by far the most complete analysis of solar effects on terrestial climate. One of the effects that we're seeing right now is the rise in the price of wheat which has always gone up during solar minima for the past 200 years (first discovered by Herschel).

As a long-time reader of Analog I was first exposed to the theory of AGW about 20 years ago and went from a believer to skeptic once I had a chance to do some in-depth study of the data. I still have a book from about 35 years ago which predicts the demise of human civilization as a result of global cooling unless we take drastic measures and de-industrialize. It seems that there is a small but vocal segment of the population that secretly wishes for major environmental disasters to happen. This is clearly pathologic and such individuals belong in psychiatric hospitals, not flying around the world threatening people with inundation from a rise in the sea level unless they give all their money to environmental true believers.

"the earth is too flat!!!"

Saskatchewan can seem that way, but go West a bit more and you will see that the earth has its ups and downs. As, of course, does the looooong term temperature trends.

It has been warmer it has been cooler and it will be again despite anybody's belief that they can have their throne carried down to the sea's edge and command the tide with any degree of effectiveness.

Hey we got global cooling again so why isnt AL GORE and the dip-wads for GREENPEACE out there acting like chicken littles saying THE EARTH IS COOLING THE EARTH IS COOLING

gym

Actually it was fewer than six days. There were a few days to add accessories.

But the debate is not about God's capacity.

The point was man's vanity that he has a significant impact on the overall climate of the place. Man herds and hangs out in places where the rest of the herd tends to gather. This gives him a false sense of importance and density and no idea of how much of the earth's surface is relatively free of his influence.

There was no mention of another vanity of man that he can accurately summarize God's complex creation in a computer model and use that model to predict events in the distant future.
