Y2Kyoto: The End Of Civilization As We Know It

They warned us that if we didn't do something to stop global warming, we would reap the inferno - and they were right!

Pre-dawn fires destroyed four new homes in an upscale Seattle suburb Monday, local officials said, with environmental extremists reportedly suspected of arson.

"There were no reported injuries in the three-alarm blaze that started around 4:00 am local time Monday," Snohomish County fire department official Rick Eastman told AFP.

"Some of the houses were still under construction."

The multi-million-dollar homes went up in flames in the "Street of Dreams" development near Woodinville, in northwest Washington state.

When contacted by the SDA news desk for comment, the Bananas With A Conscience did not return our calls.

UPDATE: Because "arson" is so 90's - New York Times labels eco-terrorists who set homes on fire in WA "anti-sprawl activists".

Sentient Bananas? Now I'm scared! Which way do I run?

Posted by: philanthropist at March 4, 2008 2:02 AM

Now we have the global warming/climate change folks tainted with the terrible stain of arson/terrorism?

Will these extremists have to start claiming lives before more people wake up and realize that there's apparently something sinister about the whole "global warming/climate change" thing than meets the eye?

Then again, maybe it was the usual garden-variety Left Wing Extremists carrying out the usual "demonstration" to "raise awareness" of their latest "cause"... I'm reminded of the "Animal Liberation Front", for example...

There's some folks out there, apparently, who need to get a life before they end up getting a life sentence...

Scary extremists. Bet some of them have inexplicably defamed the Conservaties as "scary extremists" in the past... talk about projection!

Seriously, bananas are at risk and it is far more immediate than the silly GW fantasy.

Bees are dying at an alarming rate. This too is current and no fantasy.

At least as far as PBS and National Geogrphic can be trusted.

No polination equals no Raspberries, [ a favourite], no apples, no plums, no cherries . . .
The list is endless.

Bayer Aspirin folks claim their insect [NERVE] spray is not guilty.

Frogs eat insects. Frogs are vanishing.

Are these the *coalmine canaries*?

Naw, Let*s see horses and cattle dropping like flies and then just buy insecticide carbon credits.

Global Warming is the REAL emergency say DR Fruitfly and Allan Goracle. Groan.= TG

They're just ahead of the curve. They're trying to preemptively battle the next pending disaster -- global cooling.

Posted by: Richard Ball at March 4, 2008 5:29 AM

I wish MY bananas had a conscience. The ones I get are almost always manipulative and cruel.

No Blood For Bananas!

Posted by: Jim at March 4, 2008 8:29 AM

"Save the planet or we will burn it down."

That is sort of like saying "If you don't think our religion is peaceful we will kill you"

Posted by: Largs at March 4, 2008 8:53 AM

Yeah but is it a clear conscience?
If they have a clear conscience, that would add appeal.

Posted by: richfisher at March 4, 2008 8:57 AM

Hey, did those brave eco-warriors get carbon credits before releasing all that CO2?

BTW, whaddaya call two banana peels?

Pair of slippers.

Posted by: The Phantom at March 4, 2008 9:33 AM

Hmmmm maybe "smart growth" warriors is a better sanitizing term for the useful idiots who carry forth the globalist agenda of "shortage ecology" and "sustainable development"

Guy Marks saw this coming in 68. Big Al & Dr. Fruit Fly now harvest what they have sown. The second line is just plain spooky.

Arsonists = Anti-sprawl activists. Now that is funny. I always wondered what those creative writing classes were for.

Posted by: gobi desert at March 4, 2008 10:43 AM

Why is it that left wing extremist groups, such as PETA, and the Bananas, seem to attract so many of the mentally ill? How else can you describe people who do not care about the misery they cause to humans, but have fits at the thought of a bird or rodent suffering.

The cost of this action, to name just a part of it; first, there'll be an investigation by Fire Marshalls and insurance companies, so nothing will happen on site for about a month, possibly longer. All those tradesmen are now UNEMPLOYED!

Cleanup will take at least two weeks, and when they get started over, many of the tradesmen will have left the area to find other jobs. The contractors will be hard pressed to finish the job on schedule, causing building costs to increase, which will be passed on to the purchaser.

Many people's lives will be severely disrupted, kids will have to leave their friends and schools, lives will be uprooted, all because some twisted lunatic sees things differently.

When they do catch the perpetrators, they should suffer the absolute maximum penalty, prison bitches for a lot of years in Walla Walla.

Posted by: dmorris at March 4, 2008 10:48 AM

Dr. Mengele Suzuki can now put 72 Alberta tories on his list of " to be jailed".

He may well list the "bananas" as heros in his new cold banana republic of Canaduh.

Posted by: cal2 at March 4, 2008 10:57 AM

If arsonists are "anti-sprawl activists", are guys who commit bank robberies to be considered "pro-capital activists" and rapists to be considered "pro-sexual activists"?

How very newspeak!

Posted by: Eeyore at March 4, 2008 11:09 AM

I guess burning down houses doesn't generate any CO2.

Posted by: grok at March 4, 2008 11:36 AM

The difference in philosophy of these people versus the mainstream is that they can ONLY burn down or destroy property whereas a sane person is interested in building and improving. They would have you believe it is about saving the planet while it is truly about envy.

Very marxist but also effective, the frog/owl/newt people with their protests against weak politicians (particularly in BC) have already succeeded in decimating the wood products industry.

These ELF (Earth Liberation Front) guys aren't new. They were reported two years ago as having set some fires in Guelph:

Kinda ironic that they are going after rich peoples big houses. Maybe Hollywood's celebrity environmentalists should be taking note of this and increase fire insurance on their multi-million dollar mansions. I am sure that many Kyotoists houses are not very environmentally friendly.

Yet, we are still told that its not about class struggle, fascism or socialism.

Posted by: lynnh at March 4, 2008 1:08 PM

Good point lynnh; is the Goracle's electricity pit/mansion next on the list? While at this point we can't be sure exactly of the perp(s)' identities, whoever they are they should have the book thrown at them, no excuses. Anyone who adds to the work and thereby the risk to a fireman oughta swing.

Posted by: DrD at March 4, 2008 1:52 PM

"risk to a fireman oughta swing"

was Mulroney a firebug? Murphy called for his hanging. he did burn up a lot of KHS's money.

Posted by: cal2 at March 4, 2008 2:02 PM

How much smoke was put into the air by this crinimal act of stupididy I mean a person would have to be standing out in a feild of wacky weed to have anything to do with thhese ELF extremists

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at March 4, 2008 3:37 PM

I doubt that eco-arson is the only hypothesis the police are investigating.
The contractor has these unfinished heavily-insured projects in a down-market......

Posted by: dizzy at March 4, 2008 3:39 PM

"The contractor has these unfinished heavily-insured projects in a down-market......"

And just try to collect from an insurance company if there's anything suspicious. Once the insurance investigators are involved, it could take months or even years before there's a settlement.

Meantime, how will all the workers get paid, and don't assume the builders are all that flush with cash.

Posted by: dmorris at March 4, 2008 4:14 PM

Last time this happened it was outside Denver I believe..... turned out to be disgruntled locals who were losing "THEIR" bike trails.... tried to blame it on ELF ..... took years to prove it but they got caught the idiots made videos of the firefighters repsonse and efforts to extinguish.

Makes a hell of a good argument for armed response security ..... IMO

Posted by: OMMAG at March 4, 2008 4:35 PM

Arson is not gonna get anybody an insurance claim. Terrorism, acts of war and arson....written into my house insurance policy.

I don't think the contractors are the ones to blame here.

** TG... Bees dying. You may wish to read up on mites they are finding on them. Not GW, but nice try.**

Nice try?

You misread the message. Nothing to do with GW, was the point.

Mites on bees are only one of nineteen ailments they suffer from. That*s why a fix seems almost impossible.

That*s a TRUE current problem. . . not GW.

BTW National Geographic knew about the tiny mites, but if they missed that, I would have sent them an Email with your advice. = TG

When they searched the shack the UNIBOMBER lived in they found a well read copy of AL GORES eco-malarkey book EARTH IN THE BALANCE was found and as for ELF that stands for EXTREME LUNATIC FRINGE and STAMP OUT DEEP ECOLOGY
