nice montage Kate.

any other sample out there, like the Icefields maybe?

Poor Gore. I heard the lament a couple of years ago, "where was this Al Gore when he was running for president?". Um, that's why there's an Oscar for editing. And why he won't debate. Or take questions.

Posted by: wendy.g at February 26, 2008 9:04 AM

There's only one way to be sure, Nuke It, again, and again and again - get rid of all the snow there and then see if any new snow falls on it to start rebuilding glaciers.

We will need expert witnesses of course, like Gore and Suzuki. So I will personally volunter the full 10k to pay for their travels and accomodation on the peak for two days before and 2 decades after the Nuke. (I am hoping their accomodation costs go down dramatically after the explosion but you never know with cockroaches)

Posted by: Frenchie77 at February 26, 2008 9:30 AM

Hmmm. Kate, I'm on your side here, but I'd like to see summertime pics for this peak, over the last 8 years. I'd especially like to see satellite pics - I haven't been able to google any decent ones after 2000.

I do believe the glaciers will come back, Especially with this new Dalton Minimum about to kick in. But I'm afraid until they do the agw hystericysts ('y' is deliberate) will continue to go down the wrong road.

Posted by: otter at February 26, 2008 9:39 AM

Pricelessly inconvenient.

For the likes of Al Gore and David Suzuki.

But since you mention it, as Gore received his Nobel for in essence "posting pictures", hey, why not?

Winter storm warnings issued for the Cleveland Democrat's debate . . . is Al Gore scheduled to be there ????

"Winter Storm Warning in effect until 4 am EST Wednesday...

For some fun, head over to the Suzuki fan club, otherwise known as the Globe and Mail website. Their poll question is "Do you consider yourself a fan of the work David Suzuki is doing?" So far, it's about 53/47 in favor of Suzuki....pretty close and when you think about the looney left that is attracted to the Globe, this might be another of those "polls that go horribly wrong".

In the Enchanted Forest east of Edmonton, we are at 143%, no wait, its up to 151% this week, of normal snow level.

However only 5 of 18 Ab stations are over normal.

But hey, it's only Feb 26, what are the chances of getting more snow to help the rest of the guys out?

I wonder if Gore/zuki knows how to handle a snowshovel?

When I check at 10:30AM EST the G&M poll was 53$ agree and 47% disagree. So much for the mentality of the G&M readers if this poll is accurate and has not been hacked by enviro-freaks.

I think this speaks volumes about the Toronto (GTA) voters ... "apple pie and motherhood" socialism mentality.

I also doubt that no matter how much the Conservatives try , the GTA will continue to vote for the left until the left policies become so crippling that a change is required , such as when Harris took over the mess in Ontario left by Rae (NDP) and Peterson (Liberal).

But then as soon as the mess is cleaned up ... the GTA went right back to the left.

Saw the poll results at the globe and mail this morning... sheesh, anyway offered this in the comments on the story about Suzuki carbon tax thingy

Lubos Motl of the Reference Frame has an excellent piece on low climate sensitivity and other inconvenient truths, it is a darn good read. From the results of the poll today in the globe and mail, 53 percent of you should read it and TRY to understand what is explained in a very basic manner.

I think we might spend less time trying debunk global warming. I think that's been and done now and that's not even the issue anymore.

We need to spend more time telling our governments that we don't want the carbon robbery to continue. It's a tax on the stupid who think that taxes are the elixir that brings happiness and security to all.

BC just got it's carbon tax at the provincial level. This rip off will grow and NOT BE REVENUE NEUTRAL as they tell us. It never is. New taxes keep coming and the old ones don't fade away.

We need a tax revolt.

Posted by: John West at February 26, 2008 12:01 PM

I have to wonder about the validity "polls". Here is an example of a poll that completely contradicts the G&M Suzuki poll.

"Canadians want lower taxes if economy goes south, poll suggests"
http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/story.html?id=06ad4e5f-9ce6-458a-9cb5-80e3b0a6c3bb

So Joe Canadian , what is it that you really want. Follow the Pied Piper of Kyoto (Suzuki) to economic ruin or lower taxes and prosperity ... Suzuki and lower taxes are mutually exclusive.

Posted by: Brian at February 26, 2008 1:18 PM

John West: "I think we might spend less time trying debunk global warming. I think that's been and done now and that's not even the issue anymore."

This is so true. What is apparent to me is that there is lots of evidence available with which to question the threory of AGW global warming, but for some reason, it does not penetrate the public consciousness. I am struck, for example, by how little attention is given to such things as the recent decrease in thermal output from the sun and the very real possibility of a new mini-ice age – noone seems interested. The journalists are somewhat culpable in all of this. I am not yet clear on what motivates the nearly totally one-sided view of AGW – is it ignorance, laziness or fear that results in so very few journalists providing reasonable coverage of both sides of the issue.

I have also been contemplating what motivates people like Gore and Suzuki and am wondering about the possibility of their being psychopathic personalities. I would speculate that Suzuki picked up on the theory of AGW without really examining it critically. I suspect he saw an opportunity and quickly moved to being driven by greed and the opportunity for self-aggrandizement. At this point it would be devastating to his ego to have to admit that he may be wrong. It is psychopathic behaviour that causes him to be very aggressive in shutting out alternative views. Gore I think may be somewhat more sinister – I think he may be aware that he is deliberately manipulating people, though, like Suzuki, he is undoubtedly driven by greed and a powerful need to control. It's scary, because people like this can do so much damage in the presence of a compliant media.

Posted by: LindaL at February 26, 2008 1:27 PM

LindaL~ You called it correctly on the MSM. I have a news alert set in my email, for the words 'Dalton Minimum.' Perhaps I should even throw in 'Maunder Minimum,' but a Dalton is more than bad enough... it has not had a single hit, and (Real!) scientists have been talking about the possibility of this happening for at least a year now. Outside of a few blogs and scientific sites (such as the Space Science Research Center), there is Nothing.

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at February 26, 2008 3:20 PM

What is most telling about the poll is that it is so close. Five years ago the numbers would have favoured Suzuki regardless of what he was talking about. Much progress has been made and more is being made monthly.

The B.C. carbon/hotair tax proposal will cause much talk and analysis of greenhouse gas/ global warming/climate change. This will be good for the province and the country, because, besides from the blogosphere there has only been a onesided portrayal of the "science" behind our changing climate. We know what side that is.

Posted by: truthsayer at February 26, 2008 4:10 PM

Yup. There are indeed some glaciers growing. And some places are colder, and there is more snow in other places then previously.

But none of this changes the fact that over all, the world is getting warmer.

Seriously Kate, give it up. Even all the other rightwing 'tards know that the battle to claim the planet isn't warming up, is lost.

The new talking point is that we don't yet know if it's related to human activity.

Get with the program.

Posted by: John at February 26, 2008 4:59 PM

John at February 26, 2008 4:59 PM - there is ZERO evidence the world is getting warmer (and I do know that global warming hysterics do not care about evidence, and will accept any anecdote that “supports” their deeply held religious belief about “global warming”).

If anything, the world is ending a stable temperature period, and may be entering a cooling period. This has been documented in a number of independent places, by independent scientists. And it has everything to do with the sun, and its decreases sunspot activity (its regular, cyclical, decrease in sunspot activity).

Posted by: terrence at February 26, 2008 5:14 PM

johnny, johnny, johnny.... the average global temperature FELL EVERY SINGLE MONTH OF LAST YEAR. It is now down .6 degrees C, which takes back ALL of the warming of the past 50 years.

Shove that up... err, stick that in your hat.

So we agree that global warming isn't happening -- what I want to know is how is it that the world (with a few exceptions)has allowed itself to become totally caught up in this nonsense. There is a sinister underlying dynamic here -- I think it is psychopathic personalities driving things and a complacent(complicit?)media. Any other thoughts?

Posted by: kelly at February 26, 2008 10:40 PM

I got it cornered bill d cat, but I may let you in on it.

Folks with tans will have to pay BIG BUCKS to anyone without one; some folks from the great frozen white north, get lotsa BIG BUCKS from anyone who lives around the equator. This means we will be able to vacation in sunny climes every winter, and we will be paid lotsa BIG BUCKS to do so. It means the rest of the world will acknowledge the great sacrifice we make by living in the great frozen white north. Our presence up here keeps it warmer than it would be otherwise, and the rest of the world benefits (something like carbon credits). We will be very well paid for this selfless sacrifice.
