Y2Kyoto: Save A Goose. Shoot A Prius.

About 100,000 migratory birds disappeared in recent fierce snow storms in eastern China, state media reported Sunday.

Meanwhile, as a world warms...

Snow continued to fall in Jerusalem Tuesday
after an overnight storm which blanketed city streets.

A raging snow storm that blanketed most of Greece over the weekend also continued into the early morning hours on Monday, plunging the country into sub-zero temperatures.

Because of a harsh and snowy winter, wildlife managers will start feeding starving deer near Eagle and Wolcott [Colorado] for just the third time in almost 25 years.

A cold air mass with west winds is expected to drive wind chills to the 20 below zero mark after midnight tonight. The cold will linger over much of southeastern Wisconsin Tuesday and Wednesday, with overnight wind chills of 11 to 25 below, according to the NWS.

The number of Afghans killed by the chilly weather continued in the snow-covered Afghanistan has reached almost 1000 ...

News agencies said it was the most severe frost on Hoang Lien Son Mountain in at least 40 years - and the longest cold snap ever recorded in Vietnam.

Lovely. And our new budget in B.C. today - we are getting a carbon tax of 2.5 cents/litre on gas starting in July, incrementally rising to 7 cents/litre by 2012. Ridiculous kool-aid drinking politicians...trouble is, there are no true conservatives left in the country to vote for anymore. Especially in B.C.

This carbon tax is supposed to be revenue-neutral. So the BC gov't will refund every man, woman and child $100 a head this summer. Even more if you are low income. So what is the point of this anyway?

On Bill Good's talk show this a.m., one caller said the gov't should not allow people to drive SUV's because they are "not necessary". Who does all of this hurt? Moms and dads with big vehicles hauling kids around. Families!

Stupid stupid politicians and the people who fall for this crap.

Better yet, send the deer to China, they lost thousands of livestock in the recent cold, along with their winter crops.

I fail to understand how our livestock survive in -40 weather, but they can't in China. Can someone explain that to me?

Does this mean we can begin to reverse the dumping of poisons in our water and tons of carbon and pollutants into the air we breath?

Sure Libby, just keep thinking the dumb neo-Cons don't understand the AGW theories.

I'm going to observe that the entire decrease in pollution output from Europe and North America from the last twenty gets wiped out by a single year's output from the Chicoms.

If AGW is real as you think it is, you better start sharpening up some nukes to take care of the China problem.

Lucky for me I think its a total scam. I can focus on the Chicom output of actual poisons, which is friggin' unbelievable, plus they have a bad habit of killing people over nothing. Beijing Olympics my ass.

Why was the term "Global Warming" dropped in favour of "Climate Change"? Because it was apparent the story wasn't holding together and was becoming hard to defend. Climate Change can mean anything - that's one reason to poit to this is say it is a scam.

Suzuki and ilk are the snakeoil salesman selling the charade to the ignorant like Libby. This has been going on for centuries.

Along with weak opportunistic political leadership and a corrupt MSM, they present a convincing case to someone not paying attention. A lot of people are ignorant by choice, are just lazy and /or don't care. These people get polled.

Very interesting and entertaining.

The good ship global warming is a big boat to sink. It will take a long time to reverse those propellers. Long after the science is in and leaning to the more sensible idea the we are just experiencing natural phenomena, there will be large numbers who remain true to their beliefs.

We will have to wait for them all to die off to be rid of them.

Who was it that said "It's a fool who never changes his mind" ?

This applies so well to the fools on the Left who still insist that global warming is our fault and is going to kill us while telling us that socialism is the answer.

How obtuse is that?

Every morning I go out to the garage and start up my car and my wife's at the same time. Even though they have been plugged in all night, I still let them idle for 20 to 30 minutes before I get into my car to go to work. During this time my wife and I have a nice bowl of cereal while my big V8, her 6 cylinder and our seat warmers makes the baronial and heavy cars (15 mpg of late) all nice and toasty inside.

Our routes to work follows along in their entirety a bus route. A bus can easily take us to work, but no, we purposefully sacrifice the dollars. Oh yeah, lest I forget, I set the temperature of the house to +23 Celsius and I use my fireplace as often as I can, leaving the window next to it open whenever it's worth while. When I get to my shop, I start up my Freightliner and let it run until it too gets all toasty and warm. An hour of idling during the working day is nothing, I never shut it off. No way that I'll do that because, God save us, I am on a mission.

Yes, you are thinking, he's spending a lot of coin unnecessarily, but you see I am prepared to sacrifice and happily pay for my part to save the planet. I hope we can all pitch in somehow and make the lives of future Canadians much more pleasant than what we experience 6 months of the year right now. Thank you for your time.

"Global warming can also result in global cooling"

Here we go again, this climate change argument. It's our fault no matter what happens. Climate change truly is the defining issue of our time, and how governments deal with climate change truly is going to be a monumental struggle. But unfortunately, the reasons why it is the defining issue of our time has not a darn thing to do with climate. I'll give credit to Bill Clinton's campaign of '92 for this line: "Its the economy stupid!"

Gaia help us if politicians start enacting policy to deal with this.

From the News Release:

QUOTE:

Effective July 1, 2008, subject to approval by the legislature, British Columbia will introduce a fully revenue-neutral carbon tax with built in protection for lower income British Columbians. The tax will begin at a low rate and increase gradually to give individuals and businesses time to adjust. It will apply to virtually all fossil fuels, including gasoline, diesel, natural gas, coal, propane, and home heating fuel – making it among the broadest and most comprehensive in the world.

ENDQUOTE:

So it seems the idea is to reduce or stop the burning of 'fossil' fuels to reduce the amount of CO2 returning to the atmosphere.

Think about it. How were these 'fossil' fuels created in the first place?

Answer: fossil fuel came from fossils.

And where did fossils come from?

Answer: Plant and animal life from long long ago.

And what is an essential engredient that is needed to grow these 'fossil' of long long ago?

Answer: CO2 from the atmosphere.

I am a bit of a cynic, but come October, just before the US elections, I expect winter will have been forgotten and the NOAA or some 'environmental' group will send out a press release claiming something like: 2008 on the way to becoming one of the warmest years in 'recorded history' and/or the ozone hole is increasing at an 'alarming' rate (i.e. vote Obama to save the world).

Posted by: Old Chemist at February 20, 2008 11:20 AM

The budget in B.C. has to pass in the legislature before it becomes law. This gives the opportunity for debate on the issue. If it passes then we finally will have the opportunity to initiate a class action lawsuit against the government. Given that the "hot air tax" is based on fraud we should be able to get this into the courts and the facts will be presented for all to see. The world wide temperature anomaly has been falling for 13 months and the temperature at the end of January is almost at the mean for the three main data streams used to calculate "average temp". When the data for February comes in things could get very interesting.
The warmists have little to support their position except CO2 is a greenhouse gas. The realists keep getting more and more data that contradicts the warmists position.

Truthsayer said ‘The budget in B.C. has to pass in the legislature before it becomes law. This gives the opportunity for debate on the issue. If it passes then we finally will have the opportunity to initiate a class action lawsuit against the government.”

Unfortunately, I do not think a class action suit will happen, and if one starts up, it will not go anywhere. The only good thing about the carbon tax is that it will be implemented in steps until 2012. By then, the world will most likely be much cooler than it is now. But, the alarmist’s religious fervor will not be cooled; if anything, they will take credit for stopping the “reality” of manmade global warming.

BTW, did you hear Bill Good on CKNW this morning (8:30 to 9:00 am)? He had his usual global warming alarmist flunky from UVic on the program (Andrew Weaver). This flunky’s medieval religious fervor would be funny, if he did not have so much influence. Weaver is on Campbell’s “Climate Change Panel” and was one of 14 authors of a chapter of the last IPCC “report”. Both were praising the so-called carbon tax, and saying how progressive and wonderful it is. All but one caller that Bill Good took were agog about the wonderfulness of the tax; the one dissenter asked how we will know the tax works (and ranted about people going to jail).

On his radio program, Good calls anyone who does not believe in manmade global warming “deniers”. Premier Gordon Campbell gets his input on the ‘reality’ of manmade global warming from true believers like Weaver and Good. This is the kind of drivel is that Campbell bought into. And like any politician, he will tax anything he thinks he can get away with.

I am sure the Budget Bill will pass by a massive, if not unanimous, vote; but the NDP say it does not go far enough in many areas, so they may make an empty gesture and vote against it. In any case, the new budget will pass, and the BC carbon tax will be in force in July.

For those BC residents who I thinking of sitting the election out, I would suggest voting for the BC Marijuana party (assuming it reincarnates itself in libertarian form again). In 2002? the BC Marijuana party was the only party to come out against C68 and garnered over 50,000 votes province wide -- most of those votes were in rural areas.

There's really little choice here in BC and I've never been able to bring myself to vote Lieberal, especially once I found out that the provincial Lieberals share campaign workers and office space with the federal lying scum. Unfortunately there's an attitude out here that people have to vote for the alternative most likely to keep the commies out of power. It was so easy when Social Credit was around.

It won't take long for people in the interior to see what a tax grab this is as people actually have to heat their houses out there and drive long distances. Terasan gas is obliging in providing average monthly temperatures for the current year and previous year. As average winter temperatures plummet things will get really hot in the interior of BC.
