Good evening, ladies & gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Since it's still the weekend and therefore time to dance, tonight we visit Negrocan performing their version of Cada Vez. With these nightclub dance pieces, one typically has to wait a few tens of seconds for the performance to start, such time provided for the DJ to interpolate the mix. In this case things get interesting at about 0:45, and there's a great flute solo from about 4:30 to 5:30 -- it's a fun part to whistle.

Ah, come on Kate. Vitruvius has us hooked on his "late nite radio" show. And what's wrong with Donna Summer? I thought she was really good - way back then ;-)

Sorry about that Kate. I least I did pull off the 12(e)(3) shtick.
Ok, I promise, back to Bach, or Thelonius Monk, next time ;-)

Posted by: Kate at February 3, 2008 1:17 AM

Point taken, Kate. And I will admit that at the margin I too am confused. For example, is this performance of Romeo by the inimitable Dolly Parton country or discotheque:

Hey Vit, who could listen to Dolly long enough to make a decision?

Posted by: Len Pryor at February 3, 2008 1:53 AM

Well, far be it for me to say, but I met Dolly
in a bar in Dallas once, and I think she's cool.

Posted by: Vitruvius at February 3, 2008 2:02 AM

I have nothing against Dolly's personality. She probably is a lady, I've seen nothing to the contrary. That said I have some very dear friends that can't sing either. I still respect both them and her. If Dolly can make a good living off the fact that other people think she is a singer, then more power to her. I am of the opinion that only about ten percent of the people who sing should. I don't think she is in that ten percent.

Posted by: Len Pryor at February 3, 2008 2:55 AM

De gustibus non est disputandum.

That said, I think we should all sing more. Angels sing.
Yet it's like we've all become slaves to the big media.
Shut up and listen to our official singing, they say.
Well, not me, I'll sing with Dolly,
and I'll whistle with Negrocan.
And you can't stop me, pace the HRCs.

On that note, I'm going to bed, whistling O Sole Mio:

Best wishes, everyone. Thanks for putting up with me, Kate.

Posted by: Vitruvius at February 3, 2008 3:18 AM

My high school latin of the early '50's is a bit rusty. As an addendum, I meant to say, and should have said "I am of the opinion that only about ten percent of the people who sing PROFFESSIONALLY AND FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF OTHERS should." All others (including me) should be free to vocalize as frequently, and cacophonically as they wish.

I too am going to assume the horizontal position in close proximity to my bride of many years.

G'nite all and sweet dreams. May we all rise on the morrow to continue the struggle.

And speaking of Donna Summer - man can she sing. "I love to love you baby"

Sounds to me like this is what should be happening at Peguis First Nation. The First Nations people on those reserves live in abject poverty while the chiefs party it up. Pretty sad but you know it usually is the fault of the white man.

Dolly Parton. In the early 70s, in my first house, we had a tenant who loved and loudly played Dolly Parton. My wife and I, in our supercilious superiority, but to ourselves, mocked him cruelly and mercilessly.
THEN, a decade or so later (Nine to Five) she became, gasp, HIP. I've never quite gotten over it.
Irreversible decline or the pendulum? (swinging like a pendulum do?).

I also mercilssly -- but very definitely to myself -- mocked my old man for his Johnny Cash induced tears.
THEN Cash became HIP -- even with Bob Dylan. Then my very pop-culture-advanced oldest daughter bought, gasp!, Johnny Cash's gruesome, pompous and bathetic last album. I still haven't gotten over it.

Kate's absolutely right about Parton's self-penned version of I Will Always Love You vs. the dental-drill rendition of Whitney Houston.

Charles Adler

It's a strange country we live in. For all the talk we hear about how brave men fought and died to keep Canada a free country, we sure don't act like a free people. In Toronto there is a problem with violence in schools - more in some than others, more in those with underprivileged than others, more in those with poor black kids than others... and a so called human rights lawyer is charged with doing a very thick report on what the problems are and what the solutions are and as it turns out the problem was Mike Harris, a premier who ran the government of Ontario for six years, and has been out of power for the last six years.

Does anybody really think that the issues Toronto is dealing with on the very important subject of young black boys and young black men doing poorly in school is about Mike Harris? Does anybody have the moral courage to talk back to this kind of larceny, this kind of deceipt, this kind of rhetorical manure? Are we really a free people?

maz2, I've talked about the PC educational crap for years. Right here. You'll notice how "free" I am: I use a pseudonym, from necessity, unless I want to be without a job.

Re Dolly Parton: I’m an enthusiast of a capella Renaissance choral music, Dixieland, Big Band . . . Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Johnny Cash (now), and lots of other music. I’d always looked down on Dolly Parton—until, a long time ago, I bought my very young daughters a Sesame Street tape.

One of the songs on that tape—very tongue in cheek, cheeky, and very clever—was, in order to teach opposites, Dolly Parton singing “I’m UNDER the Weather OVER You”! We used to belt it out. (I’d even listen to it and sing along enthusiastically when no one was around!) Then I saw “Nine to Five”. I altogether became a Dolly Parton enthusiast and fan. She’s smart, clever, very grounded, and doesn’t take herself seriously. With a big laugh, she openly admits the hair's a WIG: a great lady!

(Vitruvius, could you find "I'm Under the Weather Over You" for our late night listening?)

UK bends over for muzzlims.
Husbands living in a "harem" with multiple wives have been cleared to claim state benefits for all their different partners.

A Muslim man with four spouses - which is permitted under Islamic law - could receive £10,000 a year in income support alone.

He could also be entitled to more generous housing and council tax benefit, to reflect the fact his household needs a bigger property.

FROM FOX NEWS WEB SITE

A 15-year-old girl from Pakistan was forced into prostitution in the U.K. by her mother-in-law, The Sunday Times of London reported.

The teen, whose name was not disclosed, arrived in the U.K. expecting to be married to a handsome and successful older man, the paper reported. Instead, she was married to a 40-year-old, unemployed, disabled man with the mental age of a 5-year-old.

The marriage was reportedly not recognized by the British Home Office, but was considered valid under sharia — or Islamic — law.

As if that weren't bad enough, the girl's mother-in-law then decided to take advantage of the teen's youth and good looks by offered her to men looking for sex, The Sunday Times reported.

According to the paper, the family "invited" men to rape her.

The girl eventually escaped her husband's family's home and is now living in a shelter.

Her story is just one of hundreds of cases of abuse highlighted in a recent government report by the U.K.'s Center for Social Cohesion which looks at the growing trend within the Islamic and Asian communities in the U.K.

Maz2 ,
while the Norhtern Hemisphere sea ice level has caught up with the level of last year it is still about 700,000 square kilometers shy of the mean for 1979-2000. The Southern Hemisphere is a ahead of the mean for that period by 435,000 square kilometers.
It is the northern Atlantic (barents sea) that is the furthest behind in freeze up. ( -300,000 Kilometers)
La Nina is still holding sway over the pacific and the sea surface temperature is below normal for most of the west coast of North America. The real test for the warmists will be what happens when we hit the fall, the expected time when La Nina's effect is expected to disipate.
I have not heard much from the warmists about how the cold weather and extra snow cover in the three largest countries on this planet will effect global temperature.
