Prisoner Abuse At The CBC

Their very mandate...

... is to provide Canadians with a view of their political life unobstructed by bias. To do that, we must be detached from partisan interest, and professional and dispassionate in all aspects of our reporting. We must be seen to be all these things as well."

....except when reporting on Conservative governments;
The picture of Canadian special forces in this SRC (CBC) article, which was also on their homepage, was taken in the fall of 2001 when the Liberal party was in power under Jean Chretien, long before Canada had any more than a few dozen JTF-2 members in Afghanistan.

I remember because the picture was on the front page of the Ottawa Citizen back then when the debate was about the LIBERALS letting our armed forces transfer Taliban prisoners over to US forces.

be happy they didnt doctor it with blood like they doctored and sepia'd the "global warming" pictures of the shutdown Toronto power plant.

Any complaint will be answered by CBC Ombudsman Carlin with the justification that the picture was in no way doctored, edited and misrepresented, therefore there was nothing untoward.

He was a Ryerson professor dont cha know?

Yellow journalism courtesy CBC and funded by coerced tax dollars.

Canada's Augean Stable.

Clean house (stable) Mr.Harper!!!

FYI, CBC's 22 Minutes' "Have Your Say" this week is running with the question: 'Are we biased against the Conservatives?'

Posted by: Phil in Ottawa at January 25, 2008 12:23 PM

When we refer to the CBC, we now refer to it as the CBFC. I leave it to you to guess what the 'F' stands for.

It is time to get rid of that abortion of a corporation, most liberals don't even take seriously anymore either.

Posted by: Jim at January 25, 2008 12:24 PM

The issue isn't that the SRC (CBC Quebec) is biased, that goes without saying. It's that they promote Quebec seperation with CAnadian tax money. But alas, they even fail to do that right.

Posted by: Rednik at January 25, 2008 12:24 PM

I seem to recall this picture too although I think it was because the journalists showed the faces of the JTF personnel with out regard to keeping their identities secret. Just short of giving the enemy the home address of the sniper's family if you ask me.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 25, 2008 12:26 PM

This is the picture from the first days of the war, these were the first prisoners of war taken. This picture was all over the front pages of the world’s newspapers before any journalists noticed, if their wearing green cammo they are Canadians. Remember how badly our ill equipped JTF-2 were treated by Jean Chretien’s government, with held medals and such?

Posted by: Jeanette at January 25, 2008 12:35 PM

I believe that that photo was first shown as evidence of US military brutality. When we discovered that the soldiers were Canadian, there was a flash of pride, coast-to-coast-to-coast (as the CBC says) and the matter was dropped.

Posted by: John L at January 25, 2008 12:38 PM

I met a CAnadian who joined the French Foreign Legion and trained with many of the worlds special forces over the years, and he says JTF-2 are some bad mofos and are NOT to be messed with.

Posted by: Rednik at January 25, 2008 12:40 PM

Another classic attempt at manipulation by CBC Pravda. The expected drop in the polls in Quebec(vis-a-vis franco troops in Afghani) has not materialized, so now, in their desperation, they are bringing out all the stops.

And how do they do it? By portraying the troops as bad guys, somehow hoping it will rub off on PMSH.

Once again, the state owned broadcaster has cut our soldiers off at the knees, all in an effort to influence the voters in Quebec.

DISGUSTING!

I remember that when the airborne regiment[jtf2] held their funeral for their fallen comrades killed by an american pilot with an itchy trigger finger,Jean Chretien said he would not attend the ceremony as to let the soldiers mourn in private. The real reason was he knew that he was entirely unwelcome as it was he who banned them in the first place and he was going to hear about it.Brawler, street fighter,I've heard these words to describe him,he is none of these,he is in fact a coward and a petty little man.I served in the regiment for ten years and at one point we actually would buy with our own measly pay, gear so we could survive the elements. The best fighting force in the land bartering for rain gear, unspeakable.

The ex FFL guy also mentioned the Gurkhas as serious
little killers who made what he called the over-muscled US special forces look slow and plodding. Also, my sis who is in the Forces says she can tell who are JTF-2 just by how they carry themselves when back with their home units.

Gomery referred to the weasel Chretin, as 'small-town cheap'. A wonderful description that I would like to insert in yours above, if permitted.

I see in the headlines today that Harper is paying a price for turning the captured Taliban over to the Afghanis. I am left to wonder what do the Taliban do with their prisoners? Oh yeh, the same as Al Qaida does with theirs. The heads are left in one location and the bodies in another.

Silly me.

Rednik...just wanted to say thanks for the recognition.I'm sure most canadians are not aware that we have such a fine fighting force despite the liberals. My chest still swells with pride when someone like yourself mentions that fact,so thanks again.

I remember those marches,or bag drives as we used to call them.We did not have any women in our regiment at the time as they were not allowed to serve.Skyhawks eh,she must have a few jumps under her belt then.Nothing like a full gear double door exit out of a herc at 900 feet to clear the mind.

The Air Force was second to no-one either. They held dog fighting competitions up at CFB Cold Lake and the Canadian boys would quite often clean house. My cousin was married to a pilot who used to fly CF-18s for the CAF. He, with many others were "layed off" after the Kuwait war. He then signed a 5 year contract with the Australian Air Force to train their pilots. He's now flying some rich dude around in Australia as a private pilot.

Posted by: GrantK1 at January 25, 2008 1:59 PM

Grantk1...you are right as well,I remember our pilots as some of the best around,I still come across some of them as I work for an airline now,I only recognize the back of their heads though.

I'd rather pay the CBC $70.00/yr for a network I pay no attention to, than take my family out to a couple of movies a year.

It's a pleasure to give them money so they can supply more governor generals with no collusion.

Then there's Krista Erickson. Will she be the next GG if god forbid, Dion wins?

Posted by: dinosaur at January 25, 2008 2:28 PM

To Rednik and H.Ryan: First, my profound thanks for your service and my admiration for your bedrock foundation of the meaning of true 'service' - which too many of us take for granted.

I've just finished reading Christie Blatchford's 'Fifteen Days' and highly recommend it to anyone wishing to see the mettle of which are service people are made, and for a close-up and personal look at why we are in Afghanistan.

Posted by: no guff at January 25, 2008 2:42 PM

Hi no guff,
Just to clarify, h.ryan served in the reg Forces like my sister. Myself, it was just a short stint in the North Sask. Regiment in my younger years. People remember to get your 'Support the Troops' stickers and display them proudly, it pisses off navel gazers.

Posted by: Rednik at January 25, 2008 3:17 PM

Dion is on the news now commenting on this subject, does anyone really care about if these monsters are tortured or not?

Posted by: h.ryan. at January 25, 2008 3:30 PM

CTV and CBC are choosing sides in the detention thingie because they are so small and cowardly themselves. These reporters and writers cringe when they contemplate the fierce patriotism of Canada's finest - our soldiers and our Prime Minister. Wimpy, shallow people are 'frightened' by brave men/women so they snap at them like cowardly wiener dogs fearing a brave border collie or a majestic Newfoundland Dog. Pity them but get rid of them; they are 'pests' that should be ignored but in numbers they are dangerous to the health of true blue brave Canadians.

If Al Qaeda terrorists and murderers tune into any of the msm outlets in Canada; they immediately spot an Allie; all broadcasters are bleating, all the time, for the jihad scum bags instead of our own soldiers!! How the soldiers must despise these people - how I, too, despise them. My blood boils every time I hear them defend our enemies. They are all traitors IMO.

They are pathetic but they must be shut up by shutting them down. The puffin/dipper propaganda poopers are endangering our soldiers and our country.

"I served in the regiment for ten years"
First and foremost, thanks for your service and I remember my blood boiling when the Airborne went down.

It seems to me that CBC-Pravda take great pleasure in being a 5th Column and more than likely have prizes for those that have compromised the safety of the troops the most.

Getting rid of CBC TV would be a good thing. Then we'd have fair competition for a network that was self supporting and they'd get that way by reporting the news, not creating it.

Posted by: Pat at January 25, 2008 5:31 PM

Listening to the CBC "news", with Dion bleating on and on and on . . . about the lying Conservatives, I thought, "Doesn't CBC have a clue that this kind of juvenile partisanship and 'look who's calling the kettle black' makes both them and Dion look like idiots?" Rhetorical question.

And yesterday, CBC had a segment about how, now that the military's not handing prisoners over to the Afghanis—which is what the left has wanted—the Canadian Civil Liberties (sic) Union and some other group were in federal court in order to procure an injunction to the effect that no prisoners should be handed over to the Afghanis! Disconnect?

Although the segment was skewed, at least a government lawyer was quoted as saying such an injunction is moot, seeing as what it asks for is already in place.

With these people, there's no winning. If the Conservative government should find a cure for cancer, the CBC would have experts deriding it for not curing heart disease as well. I like to think that Canadians aren’t gullible enough to fall for all the preening and bullying of the Liberals and their MSM lapdogs. Sad to say, I’m not sure we still have the ability to stand on our own two feet and think clearly. Spin’s everywhere and too many people can’t be bothered not to “go with the flow”. It’s considered “not nice” and un Canadian to actually question our politically correct myths and then push back.

I come to SDA because we do question and we are pushing back. And I’m absolutely delighted to have so much company re exposing and deriding the bloated, self-aggrandizing, LYING CBC. In the face of all the evidence, John Cruickshank and his sycophantic, entitled cronies have been uttering the same, demonstrably false bromides for decades—and getting away with it. Not for much longer . . .

Posted by: lookout at January 25, 2008 5:35 PM

I just finished watching a few closing minutes of Don Newman on his broaaaaawwwdcast with his lefty guests.
I have to proclaim without reservation that segment is your unadulterated consrvative bashing crock of taxpayer funded SHIT !!

Posted by: Joe Molnar at January 25, 2008 6:24 PM

Agreed, Joe! I was reminded why I don't watch Don Newman's Politics anymore. Didja catch Susan-what's-with-the-Babe-hair-Delacourt's "joke" about "Who's got the biggest caucus"? She thought it was hilarious.

The whole panel of political "pundits" was pathetic: Delacourt, of the TorStar, whose husband is a Librano insider, that other Don ('can't remember his last name, but he's never liked PMSH--oh, yeah, Don Martin), and a Radio Canada commentater, the best of the bunch--but, hey, he's a CEEB parasite.

The only consolation is remembering that only about 10% of Canadians tune into the CBC. How come an irrelevance to Canadians gets 2.7 MILLION DOLLAR$ OF TAXPAYERS' HARD-EARNED CASH EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR?

It is to wonder...and to reflect on what a Banana Republic Canada has become. Hey, I was only born here...

Posted by: 'been around the block at January 25, 2008 6:42 PM

Right Joe Molnar, agreed, watched the same segment, ruined my dinner.
Don Martin seems to fancy himself a comedian but he just looks funny and talks like a Liberal hack, same with Straw Head Delacourt who hates Harper with a passion.
Their bias is so shameless it's palpable.

Will Don Newman and his BRAAAWDCAST be one of the deep cuts the CBC Poobah will cut? Not likely, they need his bias to get the Liberals and themselves back on the gravy train.

Posted by: Liz J at January 25, 2008 6:47 PM

Today I held my nose and visited Jason Cherniak just to post a letter to the cbc. He has posted a letter he sent, supporting Krista. Me, I commented that I had also sent a letter, saying she should be fired and the cbc defunded. Funny, never got posted. PMSH gave a great speech today, but the experts on Newman must have missed it. I bet Dion is lying when he says he was told about the change in policy during his trip. Where is proof he was told. How many lies have liberals told in the HofC during this governments mandate.
There is Pablo re his questions from Krista as a start.
PMSH stated today we will maintain the Artic as ours. How about a Gitmo built on Hans Island for all those poor prisoners. Those lefties cry about the poor treatment of prisoners, then fake care when a soldier is killed. Do they know who is killing our troops, probably a prisoner they care so much about.

Posted by: MaryT at January 25, 2008 8:47 PM

CTV.ca keeps pace with CBC in the bias department.
Comments on PMSH's speech were too positive so 'comments closed'.
But Dion criticises the government and 'comments' are left open full of more puffin poo.

Posted by: bluetech at January 25, 2008 9:26 PM

Jeanette had it right. The most important part to remember about the picture above was that it took Canada's media over a week to figure out that the soldiers in question were wearing Canadian camouflage (they were egressing a US Navy Sea Knight helicopter in the picture). The Globe, Star, etc... all referred to the troops as Americans when they first ran the pictures.

That part of the story died after they discovered Eggleton had lied about prisoner transfers (actually Elsie Wayne caught him out) as it just served to remind Canadians that most of their media are completely ignorant about the military. Not much seems to have changed, although a few journos make an effort to get it right after they've been beyond the wire once or twice.

Posted by: herringchoker at January 25, 2008 9:33 PM

The thing that just crawled across my thoughts, is the not so strange idea of the left wanting the prisoners transferred to Canada. God help us if such a thing should happend.

Sure as God made little green apples, the leftards would work tirelessly for their release on Canadian soil, on the promise they'll be good.

Ugh!!!

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan 23 (Reuters) - The Canadian military quietly stopped transferring detainees in Afghanistan to the control of Afghan authorities due to concern over torture allegations, according to a government letter released on Wednesday.

Anybody else remember the fuss that was raised- a few years back- when Jean Cruton had a barracks built for the JTF2 in Shawinigan Falls- over the objection of the DND? (Out of morbid curiosity- does the JTF2 now occupy those barracks?)

Posted by: Sheik Yerbootie at January 26, 2008 1:09 AM

CBC, CTV, Global are doing all they can to kill the Harper government. It's an all out effort the likes of what we'd expect to see in Third World dictatorships. It's all about Liberals, only they should have the reigns of power no matter how they gain that power, sleazy tactics, lies, manipulating the facts, doesn't matter.

Dufus Dion has no clue what to do now that he has the leadership of the Libranos. Like a true Liberal his only concern was " WE MUST GET BACK TO POWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE", never mind they are not ready as a party, they do not deserve the job or the people turned them down.

Where do we go from here with such a stacked deck, fifth column against us?

Posted by: Liz J at January 26, 2008 9:51 AM

When that picture was first shown the soldiers were reported as Americans as well. Even though at the time no american soldiers wore such uniforms.
