"I wonder how this will figure into that argument?"

Looks to me like there is warm water and cold air. The ice shelf is getting colder (and other reports suggest thicker) on top but the warm water is preventing expansion outwards.

This whole thing may be shifting heat in the water rather than the air. If so, I don't see how it could be airborne CO2.

But then, I don't have the scientific background that Al Gore has... er, scratch that last!

Well the answer seems obvious and has a scientifically demonstrable response...AGW only occurs where there are strong left wing pressure groups.

The antarctic being devoid of this cataclysmic weather change element has escaped its effects.

'Nuff said? ;-)

Stop global magnetic field deterioration NOW!

Do your part by buying magnetic flux credits from China.

Posted by: Shaken at January 25, 2008 10:50 AM

Damn. I should have clicked the link.

Same idea though but volcanic instead of heat shift from the water.

Bottom line is that the "science" isn't settled and the scientist/propagandists don't know half of what they claim to know.

The region of the Antarctic they scream about most, represents 2% of the entire ice cap.

The 'Rhode Island-sized' icebergs they try to scare us with, represent less than 2% of that 2%.

There is an active volcano under the ice in that region.

A number of currents converge on the peninsula, some of which is warm water to begin with.

The IPCC themselves, say the continent remains and will remain, TOO COLD. Not to mention that snowfall has doubled on the cap since the 1850s.

YAH,BUT... this time if different.

Besides, I don't SEE (!!!) no stinking volcano!

how does David Suzuki rationalize this startling revelation?

Posted by: Brad at January 25, 2008 11:21 AM

"how does David Suzuki rationalize this startling revelation?"

What revelation? There has been no revelation. Those who say there has been a revelation are denying the "One True Path" as spoken by Saint Al of the Goracle. They are the devil's spawn! They are speaking lies meant to tempt you from the path of the righteous!! Etc. etc. etc.

Not at all, apparently:

Antarctic ice sheet now growing:

I hope this is relevant to the discussion.

I was watching a Discovery Channel-type documentary a long time ago and they were talking about how Italian nautical charts dated, I forget exactly, say 500 years ago, accurately mapped the terrain BENEATH the Antarctic! It's as if there has been a total unexplained shift since then. I'm sorry that I can't remember too much else about the show. (too much beer)

My point is, I guess, that there's a lot we don't know about the Antartic or anywhere else for that matter. My 12 year old daughter just reminded me the other day in fact that we know more about the surface of the moon that we do of the ocean floor.

Piri Reis map of 1511, just shows the coastline of antarctica. I think its Persian not Italian.

I think this is a picture of the democrates in blue taking the centre , whilst the Republicans in Red take the fringe, nothing more.

Phil:

That's the Piri Reis map, and its pretty much one of those "urban legends" that are fascinating, but basically crap:

http://xoomer.alice.it/dicuoghi/Piri_Reis/PiriReis_eng.htm

I think the main problem with using Antarctic data is that most of the weather stations are based on the Peninsula, which means:

1) the readings are more influenced by the ocean than the "mainland" and

2) the readings are of a relatively small part of the continent.

Its like using data from Newfoundland and extrapolating it for all of North America...

Has anybody read Robert Felix's book Not by Fire but by Ice? He does not believe in global warming, but thinks the earth is cooling. He believes underwater volcanoes are the reason for glacial melt, etc. His website, iceagenow.com has lots of interesting info, for anyone interested.

It never fails to amaze me how mother nature works and how man is always trying to change her. Last time I heard, the Goracle couldn't stop volcanoes.

btw, I love my carbon foot print.

Quick, someone better forward this to L. Ron Gore at the Church of Climatology.

I hear he's in Davos having one great big Clintonian Gorebasm with his fellow church members and UN Curruptocrats.

Posted by: Doug at January 25, 2008 12:42 PM

Bah! It's all a plot by the Bushitler. He's probably stuck a big dirrty nuclear reactor under the ice.

Nooo problem for moonbats.

Wow! How "inconvenient".

Posted by: a different Bob at January 25, 2008 1:44 PM

People who get in trouble for lying often end up having to tell bigger and bigger lies in a vain effort to keep fooling us.

And that is what AL Gore is doing.

Yesterday the lie got bigger.

He said more or less that the end of the world will happen sooner,
and will not begin in 50 years but in 5 years.

As volcanoes and other reasonable explanations are discovered for natural climate changes,
expect Al Gore and his disciples to make the lies bigger and bigger.

For so long the warming hysterics have said that global warming will increase the number of hurricanes.

Now that they can no longer ignore the observed decrease in the number of hurricanes, NOAA comes to the rescue with a studying saying the decrease is because of global warmiong

Yes, yes, yes.

I heard them. ZERO.POINT.SIX DEGREES CELSIus rise globally in the last 150 years.

Even if it were twice that.

That 1.2C rise at the poles ON AVERAGE rise since 1868.

So tell me how ice is melting over so vast an area so vociferously when it remains well below zero for most of the year over so vast an area according to their own predictions.
