The Orphaned Baby Star Shivered Fearfully

Anthropomorphic "science writing" at its stellar best - complete with violent batterers, hugging quadruplets and post-menopausals giving "unlikely birth".

"It should be noted that she's not worried and you shouldn't be either. The odds of one of these black holes swallowing up Earth or the sun or wreaking other havoc is somewhere around 1 in 10 quadrillion in any given year."

I'm confused....

That's about the same odds as MMGW actually happening in any given year yet we are told to be afraid...very afraid.

Oh, bad science writing. I've got one! It is entitled "Proton-Powered Pooping". I kid you not.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-01/uou-ppp010308.php

First paragraph says it all: "... University of Utah scientists discovered that bare subatomic protons can act like larger, more complex neurotransmitters, making gut muscles contract in tiny round worms so the worms can poop."

Proton powered worm poop. Awesome. Even more alliterative than shivering stars. ~:D

Some people will do anything for a buck.

This would make Einstein roll over in his grave, if he had one.

It is hard to comprehend but......we are looking at a snapshot of billions of years. And even at that, we are assuming the Universe had a beginning.

Hard to even fathom the possibilities of what might be out there.

And we worry so much about the South downtown development

"And we worry so much about the South downtown development."

Because within the small timespan of our earthly existence, South downtown development actually matters whereas billions of years of galactic time don't!
