A reader explains - "This is an online...christmas? holiday? disturbing? card sent, presumably to commenters on Garth Turner's blog." The copy of the email I received indicates it's "From: "Garth Turner, MP Halton" [mp@garth.ca]"
I'm holding out hope that this is a hoax...
Update. The good citizens of Halton can be proud. It's no hoax. It appears that their elected member of parliament is actually sending this "e-card" to individuals who have commented at his blog site.

Dammit! Why did you have to post that? Now I've gotta take another shower.
Posted by: rattfuc at December 19, 2007 11:57 AMSort of related. On Bourque just now is a story about a public school in Ottawa whose carol singing choir has dropped the word "Christmas" for the word "festive" in the song Silver Bells. The name of the school is Elmdale Public School. I tried to access their websit but it is conveniently not available due to "this site is under construction". Shame, shame, shame, shame on the asshat teacher/s that pulled this one off.
Posted by: adifferentbob at December 19, 2007 11:59 AMI got one of these too. The return email addy is: eshaye@garth.ccsend.com
It's clearly a hoax. But this begs the bigger question of security of the personal info collected by Garth's blog if someone was able to mine it.

The email address originates from the same domain that hosts the "card". http://constantcontact.com/
The jury is obviously out on this one, but the point made about how the email address were collected is a valid one.

No wonder the western world is going to rat s**t.
Posted by: Warwick at December 19, 2007 12:28 PMI started thinking about this more. There's a regular poster at Garth's who does alot of photoshopping. Zorpheus at the Wingnutter. Garth uses alot of his images on his blog.
So I went to his site. And sure enough this is his work. So Garth must have sent it out to those who do not agree with him. I'll give it to Garth on this one. He has a good sense of humour about it at least.

Posted by: Reid at December 19, 2007 12:43 PMThe school in Ottawa mentioned by "adifferentbob" has been a hot topic on talk shows on CFRA this am.
The offensive word removed from the song "Silver Bells", written years ago inspired by the Salvation Army kettle Bells rung every year at CHRISTMAS.
I suggest they go completely generic and call off Christmas and Easter holidays all the freaking Leftoids teaching and or running our public schools all enjoy taking off.
Maybe they can go for George Costanza's greeting on Seinfield, "Happy Festivus", to explain all the hustle and bustle and bright lights of this specific time.
We should all worry where this will end. How much will we be willing to allow the Left to bury all this country was built upon?
Wow you guys actually open e-cards? I just delete the things outright. They're tacky and really not that personal and border on spam.

After I sent a message to Ralph Goodale in 2005 complaining about the lack of security on his Trust initiative I started receiving crap from LIberals all over the country.
Apparently they don't give a crap about who comes knocking or what it's about ... so long as they can add a name to the database.

Heh..Don..only Santa can figure out who has been naughty or nice..and Dion will prove to be very naughty indeed if he takes this poll as an indication Canadians are ready to return the lieberals to power.
When we next go to the polls, the liberals are going to take the biggest ass-wupping, the likes they have not seen in decades..
Dion will be gone as leader of the lieberals by this time next Christmas, bank on it.

Merry Eid al Isa!

I have even had customers ask me where i got the CD as they have not heard those in years, only to explain its satelite radio.
The spirit is still with me as i even say to my customers are you ready for it,Merry Christmas.(although one tried to correct me a couple years back, i told him too get the hell out & still have a merry christmas)
Is Dion going to chance it? The maggots at the Globe and Mail report a Decima/Harris poll today that puts Liberals at 32% and Tories at 30%. Part of the G&M-CBC-CTV-Red Star contribution to returning our proper Lords and Masters to power? They would have it that the poll numbers are due to (a) Schreiber; (b) Isotopes and (c) Bali.

Posted by: Flaggman at December 19, 2007 2:49 PMFor the last two years the Liberals have been describing the polls that they were ALWAYS behind in by saying "polls are only a snapshot in time".
Now Decima phones 1000 people in Toronto and the results are the absolute gospel.
Bring on the election please and shut the moonbats up for four years!!!
Posted by: clair voyant at December 19, 2007 2:57 PMWell, well, I thought the Liberals didn't pay any heed to polls. The story goes "they're a snapshot in time",according to the Dippers and Liberals when their down. Decima is a Liberal pollster, so it's not surprising. Wouldn't think many are worrying about politics at this time, certainly not those who celebrate Christmas. Toronto would be a good place for a Liberal Pollster to go fishing right now. If a pollster called me now he'd be told where to go.
Looking forward to early next year when the Liberals and Dippers take down the Government as they're threatening to do. They won't know what hit them. Meanwhile, 'tis the season to be jolly, not folly.
So it's Happy Festivus to Don and all Lefties.
Merry Christmas to MOST people in this great land.

Zorph - your artwork is very funny at times but Garth should have reserved this eblast for his close friends and admirers, not for his constituents as a whole.

=====
Here is a refresher on Stephane Dion, who got the job done. — Garth
Every two years the United Nations Climate Change Conference tries to save the world by building consensus and thinking of future generations instead of current intransigence. Yesterday the Bali conference ended. Two years ago, the talks were in Montreal, in the midst of a Canadian federal election campaign.
The man in charge of the Montreal UN event was our environment minister. Stephane Dion. Unlike with the Bali conference, which was inconclusive, in Montreal the world came together on one bright morning, under the guidance of one brilliant man.
(by Garth)
=====
I think this man needs help.
.
Listened to AM640 talk show this morning here in Toronto. The topic was the disappearance of Christmas in our society. Everyone that phoned in loved Christmas and its message except the leftist progressive lawyer Harry that is on with the moderator. Even a muslim lady said she always has a Christmas tree and lights on her house. An Iranian guy said they had Christmas back home and had no problems supporting it.
As so many of you have stated. It is the damn leftists, in this case teachers and their boards as Lookout has noted, that are continually destroying what's left of our culture. I asked the same question 15 years at my son's school here in WASP Leaside when the teachers changed the Christmas Pageant to a Festival of the Season. The parents were upset to say the least as the pageant committee whined we just want to not offend anyone. I said to the principal "The season is Christmas dammit, look around, whose complaining!"

Christmas in Iran? That must have been pre-revolution.
I got my Garth greeting too!

Best wishes to you too Garth.. funny card. = TG
Posted by: TG at December 19, 2007 6:11 PMMercy! What is Garth thinking by having Dion perched on his knee like that? Doesn't do a damn thing for the image of the liberals, or their leader.
Posted by: Honey Pot at December 19, 2007 6:27 PMReading the posts of others, I feel extremely fortunate. I recently attended my daughter's school for the annual concert. They sang and played such beautiful Christmas music. Really and truly they did. Not everything was about Christmas, some of it was just great music but much of it was traditional. They did not bastardize the words.
We live in one of the most multicultural areas of the GTA. I heard not one word of complaint, just saw a standing ovation. I know, however, that is a survey of one. My mother, who has coming to my children's concerts for the last decade or so has often complained that she no longer recognizes any songs, was enchanted.
I often think we really haven't lost our Judeo-Christian heritage, we've just been hiding it for a time as we adjusted to what we thought were the expectations of newcomers. Maybe some others expect us to relinquish our heritage in the face of competing interests but I'm ever hopeful that the generosity that all humans can exhibit will prevail. Pollyannish, maybe, but nevertheless hopeful.
I noticed tonight my Muslim neighbours, across the street, had Christmas lights decorating their home. I'm certain that if (and in fact, when) I invite them to share our Ukrainian Christmas celebration they will attend with appreciation.
I guess that's why I find Garth's silly seasonal greeting card so ridiculous.
Merry Christmas to you all. Best wishes for the coming New Year.

How else can you describe someone who was in a party that brought in the GST, was an occasional commentator on various programs in the 90s attacking the Liberals for not keeping their promise to get rid of it, ran on the Conservative ticket in 2006 to cut it down to 5%, and who now sits in a party that argues that cutting it at all is a bad idea? ;-)
With that kind of consistency, it's at least conforting to know he's in the right party now ... one that will prove to be the final resting place for his soon-to-end political career. ;-)
Why even bother to mention Garth at all anymore?

From the Nation Post, December 20th, 2007
There is one common element among cards from all parties this year: after a session of bickering and fighting, humour is in short supply. The exception is Garth Turner, the Tory-turned-Liberal MP, whose colourful card depicts him as a cartoon Santa holding what appears to be a troll on his lap.
Now have a Happy Humbug Kate ;-)
Posted by: Zorpheous at December 20, 2007 3:07 PMHey, I'm making you famous. Zorph. Be sure to hit the tip jar in appreciation. ;-)
Posted by: Kate at December 20, 2007 3:32 PMNow, now Kate, don't be trying to ride my fuzzy tail ;-) Anyhoo, I think it's Halton John who really owes, I got his name and picture in the NP. Figures I didn't sign that piece of photoshoppery with my trademark Wingnuterer and Squirrel Icon. D'oh!!!
So you want a tip eh? Buy low, sell high ;-)
Anyways, The NP did a collection of e-cards sent out from 14 different MP's, Garth's was just one of them.
Have a Merry Christmas Kate.
Posted by: Zorpheous at December 20, 2007 3:43 PMWell I got 2 e-cards from Garth, wonder why you guys only got one, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I received this e-card and another more personal e-card. Maybe because I'm not as naughty as you guys or maybe it's because I'm polite on any blog I go to. Either way, I'm happy to have received both cards, seeing as my MP, Chuck Strahl, didn't bother to send me one. So Thanks Garth and staff for atleast having the decency to acknowledge me unlike my own conservative MP.
Although I did received the calendar from my MP, and I'd like to say WHAT A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. I don't need to be reminded every month of the broken promises I voted for.
To everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at December 21, 2007 10:13 AMWow - Just reading your blog and I noticed Reid said that the tag on the troll has my name on it. I consider that an honor as Zorpheous, the creator of Garth's e-card, is angry with me because I called him out on a post he made, by calling him a liberal extremist. He started to spin wildly posting comments of denial and excuses for his disgusting rhetoric. After all, does anyone really think Harper would run over his mother with a bus, or kill kittens and old people ???? Below is a portion of Zorphs original post on Turners blog ---
"To bad there isn’t an election though, eh Johny. Or maybe Harper will introduce a new confidence bill to kill kittens and old people to force one.
Hell, he’d toss his own mother under the bus and then drive the bus if it meant getting his majority rule."

Garth not only allows this rhetoric on his blog, he inspires it. It should be know that Garth allows some dissenting views on his blog to make it appear as an "open forum", but it is far from it. He deletes ALL comments that expose him for what he is. IE - the fact that he voted for the Income Trust changes that he so denigrates all the time. With Garth Turner, hypocrisy rules.
