Good evening ladies & gentlemen. On SDA Late Night Radio for tonight, we have a rather unusual combination of Frank Sinatra singing The Christmas Waltz accompanied by a chorus and a rather dashing lass on ice skates:

Don't worry, I'll be Bach later in the week
with a classic all-male choir for the ladies.

Among the list of registered lobbyists for the CWB is:

Suzi Bonk
Consulting firm: Sofa Logic Inc
Client: THE CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD
Effective: 2007/09/27

She could be quite effective. Lying down on the job might even be an attribute.

Gary North's latest take on the American subprime-mortgage meltdown. It includes a kicker: the banks that packaged up dubious mortages into collateralized debt obligations may end up being on the hook for fraud. As to whether or not they are, it hinges on the legal relevance of the phrase "everyone knew."

I noticed that Avis Gray is listed as an in house lobbyist as well. Gray served as an assistant to liberal senator Sharon Carstairs as well as having served as a liberal MLA in Manitoba for about 5 years. And imagine that, her title is Director of Government relations! Nope no liberals at the whaet board!

that's true. didn't they break a bunch of stories during OJ for one thing?

Perhaps because they are so hyper about getting sued, they try to be more accurate.

The Enquirer and the other American Media supermarket tab employ so many old British red top tabloid journos that faux British pubs duly sprang up around their Florida headquarters -- the brits have different libel laws than we do and I wonder if that training/mindset doesn't carry over to their work at the Enquirer.

"Mr. Orchard's senior organizers say they refuse to believe that Mr. Dion will appoint a candidate."

Dion draws ire over proposed by-election candidate

OTTAWA -- Stéphane Dion's hope of appointing a provincial NDP politician as the Liberal candidate for an expected federal by-election in Saskatchewan is angering supporters of one of his key leadership organizers, David Orchard.

The battle over who will carry the Liberal banner in a vast northern Saskatchewan riding has developed into a power struggle pitting MP Ralph Goodale, the party's strong man in the province, against Mr. Orchard, the prominent farm activist who twice ran for the leadership of the Progressive Conservatives.

Mr. Orchard has been campaigning heavily for the Liberal nomination in the riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River, but Mr. Dion is seriously considering overriding the nomination race to appoint NDP MLA Joan Beatty as the candidate, Liberal sources said. ...-

Great comment over at The Conservative Hipster vis a vis the HRC fiasco involving Mark Steyn: "Every Canadian blogger, journalist, newspaper and magazine publisher should publish the same chapter from Mark's book (with his permission) that Maclean's magazine published and which is the cause of the human rights complaint by the CIC. This would send a spectacular message to everyone who gives a damn about free speech in Canada but more importantly to those who want to censor free speech. It might even lead to legislative changes to the human rights act."

I was thinking of something along the same lines a few days ago after Michael Coren and Salim Mansur weighed in on the travesty of "justice" (sic) being done via the CIC's complaint to the HRC.

What about a blizzard of politically incorrect articles, comments, etc., so many that they would clog up the HRCs to the extent that they might throw up their hands in surrender. The only problem with this idea is that it could backfire and the HRCs might be given the go-ahead to hire more moonbats to deal with the incoming complaints.

I'm in mind of what the King of Norway did when the Nazis invaded and mandated that all Jews wear Star of David armbands, all the better for the Nazis to persecute them with. The King's solution to this appalling mandate was, "We are all Jews," a call to all Norwegians to ALSO wear Star of David armbands. Apparently, most of them did.

Now is the time for those of us who deeply value freedom of speech in Canada to stand together because it's not such a trite saying, "United we stand, divided we fall."

Cannabis smoke 'has more toxins'

Cannabis is the most commonly used drug
Inhaled cannabis smoke has more harmful toxins than tobacco, scientists have discovered.

The Canadian government research found 20 times as much ammonia, a chemical linked to cancer, New Scientist said.

The Health Canada team also found five times as much hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen oxides, which are linked to heart and lung damage respectively.

But tobacco smoke contained more of a toxin linked to infertility. Experts said users must be aware of the risks. ...-

What I don’t understand is that if the HRC’s are supposed to be protecting the rights of minorities to obtain equal job opportunities; then why can’t Mark Steyn go to an HRC and get them to sue on his behalf as an oppressed minority white male who is being harassed for practicing his vocation as a journalist?

The end game here would be to get a vicious circle of law suits that would cause centrifugal force to spin the HRC out of existence.

How on earth have we ever let ourselves get into this self-loathing mess?

If we don’t stand for something we’ll fall for anything.

Posted by: nomdeblog at December 19, 2007 9:07 AM

Great idea, nomdeblog, the only problem being that the HRCs don't consider white, European/British males to be in minority situations. They're the "oppressors," don't you see?

The HRCs would never assent to even hearing a complaint by Mark Steyn.

HRC official: "Complaint? Are you kidding? This guy's an entitled, bigoted, walk-all-over-the-poor-minorities' sensibilities, blowhard. Hey, no hearings for him. In fact, we've got HIM in our sights. Our motto: 'Human Rights for visible minorities and new immigrants, and none for anyone else. Fair is fair."

End of one-sided discussion.

Couple forced to take in criminal lodger after he tells court their house is HIS home address

A convicted criminal has moved in with a married couple against their wishes after giving their address in court as his home.

But the couple claim the first they knew about it was when Sims, a friend of their daughter, moved in on Thursday - followed by security contractors who put a box in a bedroom to monitor his movements with an ankle tag...

WHY THE MAJOR MEDIA MOGULS HATE GUNS

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/992

"“The gun is the ideal self-defense weapon. It can be wielded by a woman, a child, an elderly person or even an invalid. There was an old saying in the American West: “God created men, but Sam Colt made them equal.” – Charley Reese. With that in mind, I ask you: why do the major media moguls want to see the citizens disarmed?

The only conclusion that I could come to was this: the judges want to see criminals run loose so they can continue to commit crimes. They believe this will help lead the simple-minded people to demand that ALL GUNS BE TAKEN AWAY from all people. The total elimination of all guns in the hands of the citizenry is the ultimate goal of our unelected rulers. (...)

The major media moguls are very cleaver in the way they support gun control. They do not want to appear against gun control themselves, so they give many hours of free publicity to the gun control nuts that do want to see the citizens unarmed. The corrupt major media gives the gun control crowd eight to nine times the free publicity that they give the pro gun crowd. This tells you whose side the major media moguls are on, so much for balanced reporting. You can see who owns the major media HERE.

...Before this country can be turned into a giant concentration, like the Old Soviet Union, China or Cuba, the citizens must be disarmed and the major media moguls are trying to make this happen. Anyone playing with a full deck knows this is true.""

These articles are always good to draw hoplophobe moon bats out of the cyber woodwork. ;-)

Melanie Phillips, The Litmus Issue

As Dore Gold writes in his outstanding book, The Fight for Jerusalem, the jihadis see the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem as the essential prerequisite to their conquest of the world and the arrival of the end of days. Unless the west comes to understand this, and to understand the way in which this conflict has been so shockingly misrepresented for so long in the western mind and with what terrible consequences, it will itself be defeated.

The fate of Israel is intimately tied to the fate of the free world. Attitudes towards it are the litmus test of civilisation. It is, quite simply, the biggest moral issue of our times.

Just as things were starting to get a little brighter down here Loyola Hearn decides to pick off the scab:

"It's something like demanding Santa give you what you want, when all you have to do, instead of standing on a chair and shouting up the chimney,'Santa, I want everything or I'll light the fire,' sit down and write a letter and make sure it gets to the right people, and you might get what you want," Hearn said. "That's providing you've been a good boy - if you haven't been a good boy, then it depends."

The feds and NL signed a 430 million dollar infrastucture agreement over a 7 year period. The CPC was getting some good traction and Hearn comes out and says the above. WTF Loyola?

I wouldnt take it to the bank but they will break a story first, then the MSM will backfill once it is out there. If this is true many people know just many people have chosen not to pursue.

If I was a democrat I would prefer this story to happen now rather than after he is the presidential or vice presidential nominee.

And the story wont be that he had an affair and has a "love child" it will be about the cover up and whether he lies about it. If I was advising edwards I would find a way to not discuss rather than deny, unless it absolutely is not true.

An Islamic holy man has a special holiday message for the festive Haj season:

"Top cleric says women without veils must die"

Tehran, 19 Dec. (AKI) - A top Muslim cleric in Iran, Hojatolislam Gholam Reza Hassani said on Wednesday that women in Iran who do not wear the hijab or Muslim headscarf, should die.

"Women who do not respect the hijab and their husbands deserve to die," said Hassani, who leads Friday prayers in the city of Urumieh, in Iranian Azerbaijan.

"I do not understand how these women who do not respect the hijab, 28 years after the birth of the Islamic Republic, are still alive," he said.

"These women and their husbands and their fathers must die," said Hassani, who is the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in eastern Azerbaijan.

While 2 million pious Muslims on a spiritual retreat repeat the goodwill holiday message, "Death to America," Dhimmi Bush sends his greetings:

Washington, 19 Dec. (AKI) - United States president George W. Bush on Wednesday sent a message of goodwill to Muslims worldwide at the start of the major Muslim Eid al-Adha festival of sacrifice.

"During Eid al-Adha, Muslims around the world reflect on Abraham's unwavering faith and his trust in God when asked to sacrifice his son," Bush said in the message.

"These four days are a time for Muslims to honour Abraham's obedience by celebrating with family and friends and showing gratitude for the many blessings bestowed by God.

"This holiday also helps ensure the important values of compassion and devotion are passed on to future generations," the message continued.

Bush also paid tribute to the role played by Muslims in America, saying they "enriched" multicultural US society.

"The kindness, generosity, and goodwill displayed by American Muslims during this special occasion and throughout the year have contributed to the strength and vitality of our Nation," the message stated.

"May all those observing Eid al-Adha find love and warmth during this joyous holiday. Laura and I send our best wishes for a memorable celebration," the message ended.

This has got to stop.

I’m taking a wild guess, going out on a limb here, and suggesting that former National Citizens Coalition buddies, Stephen Harper and Gerry Nicholls, are no longer quite so buddy-buddy. Please correct me if I’m wrong on that. But I think Nicholls’s pretty right, ideologically and in this article.

http://www.thestar.com/printArticle/286823

---------------

All Harper, all the time – all hail!

GERRY NICHOLLS

I recently received a letter from our Glorious Leader Stephen Harper.

Oops, did I say "Glorious Leader"? I meant to write "Prime Minister" Stephen Harper.

I am a little confused, I suppose, because in his letter Prime Minister Harper writes, "The Conservative Party is the people's party. And the Conservative government is the people's government."

Now, I don't know about you, but terms like "people's party" and "people's government" immediately conjure up images in my mind of red-scarved multitudes mindlessly and obediently cheering the "people's" leader.

Not that I am suggesting, of course, the Conservative Party – er, I mean the People's Party – is attempting to create a personality cult around the Prime Minister. After all, in order to have a personality cult, the leader actually has to have, well, you know, a personality.

However, it does seem clear the party is actively trying to generate some sort of mystical aura around the person of Stephen Harper.

How else do you explain the special 2008 calendar I recently received from the party as a gift for my "loyal support"?

Now, most gift calendars from politicians feature photos of Parliament Hill, the Peace Tower or maybe some prairie wheat fields.

This calendar features almost nothing but Stephen Harper.

For January it's a photo of Stephen Harper getting off a plane; February features Harper posing next to a guy in a snowman costume; March shows off Harper in a turtleneck; in June there's a shot of him looking studious in his office, and on it goes, month after month.

In other words, for virtually every day in 2008, owners of this calendar can gaze upon a smiling, benevolent, wise-looking Harper. (The only reprieve will come in May, which inexplicably features a photo of the Queen.)

Why is the Conservative brain trust pushing this Harper-centric strategy?

Well, likely it's because they realize there is very little difference between the Conservatives and the Liberals ideologically speaking. Both parties basically push the same wishy-washy middle-of-the-road centrist policies.

So the only argument the Conservatives can come up with to win our votes is: "Hey, our leader is better than the other leader, because he looks good in a calendar."

Thanks for that article, Ted. 'Very enlightening.

Gerry Nicholls sounds like a grade-ten kid trying to be funny by using sarcasm at someone else's expense: "Hey, our leader is better than the other leader, because [wait for it...TA DA] he looks good in a calendar." Ha, ha, ha.

I think I got that calendar, and PM Stephen Harper looks great.

I guess if Mr. Nicholls wants to blame anyone for it...I mean, anyone other than "the Conservative brain trust pushing this Harper-centric strategy" he's already cited...he COULD slap the Canadian MSM on the wrist for doing their best to either deep-six photos of their Prime Minister and his very photogenic wife or to feature photos that make PMSH look ponderous, fat, with his mouth open, or all of the above.

If the Harpers were Librano$, they'd be on the cover of every newspaper and magazine in Canada, on a regular basis. Mrs. Harper (who is a very attractive blonde) rescues orphaned kittens and drives a motorcycle like a pro: How come we hardly ever see or hear this in our MSM?

I'll tell ya why: The MSM have no interest, whatsoever, in any photo or story that will assist the Canadian voter in seeing the difference between the CPC and the Librano$: The Harper family lives within its means, PM Stephen Harper doesn't put strangleholds on hecklers (so, he shuts down Press Conferences: I say "Good on 'im."), friends of the CPC don't leave brown envelopes spilling over with cash in Italian restaurants, the CPC hasn't swindled the Canadian taxpayer out of million$ of dollar$, in contracts and paybacks to their families and friends, with no intention of paying the $$$ back, etc., etc. ad nauseum.

Instead of the Harpers on magazine covers, we get Justin Trudeau (gag), his wife, and baby. Remember the last time there were kids at 24 Sussex Drive (excepting Catherine Clark)? Margaret, Justin, Michel, and Sacha were constantly featured in the Canadian media.

I guess the calendar is just a reminder to Canadian taxpayers that our Prime Minister and his family are just as photogenic as the Magus and his family, and are a good deal more down to earth--you know, more like the rest of us...

Baghdad Santa is back to hear wishes for peace
Wed Dec 19, 2007 5:28pm GMT

By Ahmed Rasheed

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Here's what Karrar Haider, a 10-year-old Shi'ite boy at a school in eastern Baghdad, told Santa he wants this year for the holidays:

"I have one wish to ask Santa Claus. Please bring peace to my country. Stop the bombs so I can play with my friends again."

Santa -- who spends the rest of the year disguised as a 48-year-old Chaldean Christian monastery administrator named Jalal Hourmoz -- said he was delighted to spread joy after two years when sectarian violence made a merry Christmas impossible.

"I stopped wearing the costume for two years. I was afraid of death. But this year it's a bit safer. So I'm back, to celebrate both Christmas and Eid," he said of the Christian and Muslim holidays that this year fall less than a week apart.

"I feel so happy to bring a smile to the faces of the children. They've suffered a lot and they deserve more than a guy wearing a Santa Claus costume with some simple gifts.

"I want to tell the world that Christians and Muslims in Iraq are brothers as we used to be before."

During the darkest days of Iraq's sectarian conflict, teaching respect for all faiths was a dangerous business. But at the al-Abtikar school in eastern Baghdad, it is a way of life.

The school is run by nuns from Iraq's small Chaldean Christian community, but most of its pupils are Muslims, a mixture of Shi'ites and Sunnis.

The nuns managed to keep the arrival of Santa Claus a secret from the 2,800 pupils until he showed up in his red suit and white shaggy beard, ringing a bell and passing out small toys.

Pupils ran outside, screaming with joy.

"We never differentiate between the students: Christians, Sunnis and Shi'ites are all equal. Our message is to offer education for all, with no exception," said Sister Ghufran Nayif, the school's principal.

To her, the coincidence that the Christian and Muslim holidays fall at the same time this year is a blessing.

"It's a sign from the holy God that we are all his creation, we should hold fast and nothing should divide us." she said.

"Children are living through daily suffering of violence, and we celebrate both happy occasions to draw a smile to their faces and tell them there is still hope in this life."

Or, as Rusul Mohammed, 14, a Muslim girl, explained the school's philosophy: "Today we are celebrating with our Christian brothers both Christmas and Muslim Eid.

"My wish is to live in peace all together," she said.

In the Star's ongoing campaign to sell a sanitized version of Islam and separate it from the Aqsa murder, it publishes lots of letters from Muslims. Here's one:

"Islam rid pagan Arabia of such practices, and raised women to a high status in days when they were considered property."

Lie #1

"Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will" (Quran 2:223);

Women have rights that are similar to men, but men are "a degree above them." (Quran 2:228)

A woman is worth one-half a man. (Quran 2:282)

Marry of the women two, or three, or four. (Quran 4:3)

Males are to inherit twice that of females. (Quran 4:11)

All married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. You can't have sex with married women, unless they are slaves obtained in war (with whom you may rape or do whatever you like). (Quran 4:24)

"Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them" (Quran 4:34).

Muslims, draw not near unto prayer… (if) ye have touched women…then go to high clean soil and rub your face and your hands.” (Quran 4:43 - Muslim women are pariahs and dirty?).

When it's time to pray and you have just used the toilet or touched a woman, be sure to wash up. If you can't find any water, just rub some dirt on yourself. (Quran 5:6)

He goes on to say, "There are people today wha fail to grasp the concept of the hijab. It is a right that Muslim women have fought for..."

Lie #2 - This statement is so preposterous it requires no comment.

"Although Islam is related to Judaism and Christianity..."

Lie #3 - Allah does not mean God in Arabic. Ilah means God. Allah is the name of their god. One of a pantheon of 365 Arabic gods worshipped at the Kabbah long before Mo's time. Mo's father's name was Abduallah. The Judeo/Christian God is Yahweh. Furthermore, there is nothing supporting this grand lie other than (the proven liar), Mohammad's word.

"Islam gave women the right to property, inheritance and the vote 1400 years ago."

Lie #4 - There was no democracy in Arabia 1400 years ago. And there is hardly a functioning democracy in any Islamic country today. Women can't even drive in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam.

Males are to inherit twice that of females. (Quran 4:11)

"Even a simple statement in the Quran that women are human beings and have a soul was unthinkable in its time and cannot be found in other scriptures."

Lie #5 - Related to the above Quranic verses regarding women. Women are considered chattel.

"In the meantime, if a criminal takes a life, let us treat him like a criminal."

Agreed. Starting with your mass-murdering prophet.

- Mohamed Aidid, Thornhill

This is a good example of Muslim lies that are influencing the ignorant around us. It's called taqiyya and is a weapon of jihad against the infidel. "War is deception" - Mohammad.

Is this Putin's Christmas gift to the troops, new socks?

Kevin O'Flynn, Goodbye to the Footcloth, Hello to the Sock

It has padded the feet of Russian soldiers as they marched on Paris, Berlin and Grozny. But within a year, the humble footcloth is to be consigned to the laundry bin of history. Its replacement? The sock.

Portyanki, or footcloths, have kept soldiers' feet warm and dry since the days of Peter the Great. Notoriously difficult to wrap, they are the bane of many a new recruit and will be phased out by the end of next year, Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Isakov announced last month.

The scrapping of the footcloth comes as the first half of a two-part revolution in army footwear: Traditional Russian army boots, known as sapogi, are to be replaced by lace-up boots similar to those worn in the U.S. Army, Isakov said...

Vitruvius,

I've enjoyed your Christmas musical postings and look forward to your selection for next week. I particularly enjoyed the spirited version of Dobry Vechir (although the Christmas garb was a little strange), a piece which our own little choir here on the frozen prairie has been performing this season.

batb,

I really appreciate just about every post you make here, and that certainly goes for the one at 8:40 am above. We certainly should do everything we can to emulate the courageous king noted in your post.

I think we should gather around the CHRC building when and if the great hearing occurs, in as large a number as we can, all reading aloud from "America Alone".

P.S. your courageous king was Danish.

Regards,

It has apparently been deleted from both sites, but is still up at the New York Sun.

I guess the UN Leftoids don't like their dirt to be exposed to the light of day.

The Global Warming Suicide Cult
By Don Feder

The Global Warming movement has been compared to a religion -- albeit one without God, but with a vision of sin and repentance, damnation and salvation.
Not quite.
Real religion is about improving the human condition by encouraging moral conduct in obedience to the will of God. The proponents of Global Warming are creating a suicide cult, which -- if followed to its logical conclusion -- will lead to human extinction.

Forget the Kyoto Treaty. Forget the Luddite Lieberman-Warner bill to cut so-called greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2050, which would cost the U.S. an estimated $1 trillion and result in the loss of 3.4 million jobs. That's just the beginning.

Ultimately, the Global Warming crusade is a frontal assault on procreation, the family and the future of mankind. ...-

If you like oldies music, try http://www.cfrw.ca/page.aspx?page_id=318 out of Winnipeg - great music - and they wish you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS after every few songs. Hell of a lot nicer and much more correct than "Happy Hoidays" or "Have a Fun Filled Festivus".

As for Happy Holidays: I've had a few salespeople wish me a "Happy Holiday!," to which I cheerily reply, "Yes, Merry Christmas!"

So far, just smiles, no knitted eyebrows or scowls. Let's just keep plying others with "Merry Christmas!" when greetings are being exchanged.

Maybe we can take back the Christmas Season and get it through Canadians' heads that Christians are PART OF Canada's multicultural "mosaic." Amazing that this even has to be pointed out, but it does.

And, of course, Christians aren't a cultural group: Christians come in all sorts of different cultures. We should definitely not be shut out of Canada's multi-culti profile; there are Christians celebrating Christmas in pretty much every cultural group: Aboriginal people, Egyptian, Ethiopian, Pakistani, Indian, African, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Costa Rican, Russian, German, Scandinavian, Maltese, Canadian, American, etc., etc.

Christians from whatever culture they are a part of are offended and short-changed when Christmas is ignored or, worse, treated with contempt.

For those interested in a reformed Islam, there is an organisation of Muslims interested in doing just that:

reformislam.org

OUR GOALS

to educate Muslims about dangers presented by Islamic religious texts and why Islam must be reformed
to educate non-Muslims about the differences between moderate Muslims and Islamists (a.k.a. Islamic Religious Fanatics, Radical Muslims, Muslim Fundamentalists, Islamic Extremists or Islamofascists)
to educate both Muslims and non-Muslims alike that Moderate Muslims are also targets of Islamic Terror

OUR MANIFESTO

Acknowledging mistakes
The majority of the terrorist acts of the last three decades, including the 9/11 attacks, were perpetrated by Islamic fundamentalists in the name of Islam. We, as Muslims, find it abhorrent that Islam is used to murder millions of innocent people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Inconsistencies in the Koran
Unfortunately, Islamic religious texts, including the Koran and the Hadith contain many passages, which call for Islamic domination and incite violence against non-Muslims. It is time to change that. Muslim fundamentalists believe that the Koran is the literal word of Allah. But could Allah, the most Merciful, the most Compassionate, command mass slaughter of people whose only fault is being non-Muslim?

The Koran & the Bible
Many Bible figures from Adam to Jesus (Isa) are considered to be prophets and are respected by Islam. Islamic scholars however believe that both the Old and the New Testament came from God, but that they were corrupted by the Jews and Christians over time. While neither Testament calls for mass murder of unbelievers, the Koran does. Could it be possible that the Koran itself was corrupted by Muslims over the last thirteen centuries?

The need for reform
Islam, in its present form, is not compatible with principles of freedom and democracy. Twenty-first century Muslims have two options: we can continue the barbaric policies of the seventh century perpetuated by Hassan al-Banna, Abdullah Azzam, Yassir Arafat, Ruhollah Khomeini, Osama bin Laden, Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaeda, Hizballah, Hamas, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, etc., leading to a global war between Dar al-Islam (Islamic World) and Dar al-Harb (non-Islamic World), or we can reform Islam to keep our rich cultural heritage and to cleanse our religion from the reviled relics of the past. We, as Muslims who desire to live in harmony with people of other religions, agnostics, and atheists choose the latter option. We can no longer allow Islamic extremists to use our religion as a weapon. We must protect future generations of Muslims from being brainwashed by the Islamic radicals. If we do not stop the spread of Islamic fundamentalism, our children will become homicidal zombies.

Accepting responsibilities
To start the healing process, we must acknowledge evils done by Muslims in the name of Islam and accept responsibility for those evils. We must remove evil passages from Islamic religious texts, so that future generations of Muslims will not be confused by conflicting messages. Our religious message should be loud and clear: Islam is peace; Islam is love; Islam is light. War, murder, violence, divisiveness & discrimination are not Islamic values.

Religious privacy
Religion is the private matter of every individual. Any person should be able to freely practice any religion as long as the practice does not interfere with the local laws, and no person must be forced to practice any religion. Just as people are created equal, there is no one religion that is superior to another. Any set of beliefs that is spread by force is fundamentally immoral; it is no longer a religion, but a political ideology.

Equality
Islam is one of the many of the world's religions. There will be no Peace and Harmony in the World if Muslims and non-Muslims do not have equal rights. Islamic supremacy doctrine is just as repulsive as Aryan supremacy doctrine. History clearly shows what happens to the society whose members consider themselves above other peoples. All moderate Muslims must repudiate the mere notion of Islamic supremacy.

Sharia
Sharia Law must be abolished, because it is incompatible with norms of modern society.

Outdated practices
Any practices that might have been acceptable in the Seventh Century; i.e., stoning, cutting off body parts, marrying and/or having sex with children or animals, must be condemned by every Muslim.

Give them a visit.

I forgot to mention that even though Christians might be offended at the way one of our major feast days is given short shrift in Canada, I don't know of any Christian who has taken, or would even think of taking, our feelings of being offended to a Human Rights Commission.

I think most Christians understand the constant good will and sacrifice needed to ensure freedom of expression, faith, and speech in Canada. Taking frivolous hurts and offences to HRCs, trivializes genuine human rights.

It makes no sense to curtail others' human rights when attempting to ensure your own.

Thanks for that link, Irwin. Yesterday we were talking about moral models in another thread. The ReformIslam manifesto is an example of Muslims who have a moral model that has much in common with mine (modulo the one meta-ethics issue) and the principles we were discussing.

batb: re Merry Christmas
Well said, i make a point of thanking my customers & wishing them a Merry Christmas
i like it when iam shopping & my customers always seem have a smile on their faces after shopping in the store, if i can make my customer have a good feeling after shopping here i feel i have had another succesfull year & have created repeat customers that appreciate my business.
Retailers just don't seem to say Merry Christmas as much anymore.
Then there was the guy that in front of other customers & loud enough told me off a couple of years back for saying Merry Christmas & informed me it is not socialy correct & i should stop saying it (In my store), so i politely told him (as i was in the Christmas Spirit) to get his socialy Incorrect Ass out of My Store & don't bother coming back & You can still Have a Merry Christmas, every one in the store congratulated me acouple even clapped(i told the story here 2yrs ago shortly after it happened)
So i make a Point of really saying it Now, Damm it makes me feel good after a long day
Merry Christmas All & to All a Good Night

They have a pretty good blog going, too, with recent entries about the murder of Aqsa Pervez and producing a "reformed" Koran "In Memoriam of Aqsa Parvez".

Unfortunately, their dedicated email address for death threats is probably not just black humour.

Here we go again

6pm news - CTV/19th

Syed Soharwardy - our local Imam - has recently filed with the Alberta Humans Rights commission against the Western Standard blog re past comments that have appeared on the blog. "Fearing for his life and with no place to go", he says ...... In fairness, some of the words flashed on the screen as written by a commenter were pretty bad.

If all of this is not toned down, we are going to move from Libel Chill to Libel Freeze and society at large is destined to be a huge loser.

Apparently he was told that he should have filed with the federal CHRT as web sites are under federal control. At least the AB Commission seems to have dispensed with this at their end - but we shall see.

A few days ago he was on TV talking about how we should be able to move ahead by talking things out, etc., etc. Right. And then he turns immediately to the HR Commission.

One plus is that the HR Commission acknowledged publicly that a complaint had be laid (unusual until now) and apparently has been rejected so the the public push back must be having some positive effect.

As with civil litigation, it should be open to the public (via their web site) about who is laying charges against whom in any Human Rights Tribunal. We should not have to hear about the goings on after they have been completed. Apparently the AB Commission does not report on their website if a matter is settled by arbitration - only if there has been a finding against the respondent.

He was also on TV a couple weeks back playing the racist, victim card re the young girl who was not allowed to continue in a soccer game while wearing a hijab secured under her neck. He was probably ready to file with ABHRC over this as well but thankfully, cooler heads prevailed (I think)

The AB soccer gurus met and decided that yes, there is such a thing as a sports hijab that is being used in many other places world-wide so they ruled that the sports hijab (does not tie under the neck) is now permissible. The young girl is back playing soccer.

Sooo, Syed - these things can and will be worked out via discussion - not by resorting to HR filings every time your nose gets out of joint.
To persist in doing so is doing nothing but alienating most everybody and it becomes a lose-lose situation(s).

"When a CFL breaks, the EPA cautions consumers to open a window and leave the room immediately for at least 15 minutes because of the mercury threat. The agency suggests removing all materials by scooping fragments and powder using cardboard or stiff paper. Sticky tape is suggested as a way to get smaller particles. The EPA says vacuum cleaners and bare hands should never be used in such cleanups.

After final cleanup with a damp paper towel, the agency warns consumers to place all materials in a plastic bag.

"Seal and dispose of properly," says the EPA. "Wash hands."

I have no idea when this hearing will take place, so we'll have to keep our ears to the ground on that one. As for where, my guess is that the CHRC office being in Ottawa, that's where this will be heard. Bloggers and commenters, please share relevant news and information as it becomes available.

This one is big enough that we should be doing everything we can to shine the bright light of day on the proceedings and use all our remaining civil rights to protest them, to support Mark Steyn and MacLean's Mag. and to let these heathen censors as well as our political representatives know how seriously we take this. A Mark Steyn "read-in" is just one of many possibilities we could consider.

bryanr: Good on ya, mate!

Would this guy have told an African-American not to say "Happy Kwanza" or a Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, or Hindu, etc. not to wish people in their own store a Happy Whatever...?

I doubt it.

It's not a matter of Christians being obnoxious, just a matter of owning our faith, owning our spiritual memory/history, and not being ashamed of doing so. Others in our society are encouraged to be proud of their culture, history, etc., so it doesn't make any sense, really, for Christians to be expected not to.

Double standards abound in Canada. I think it's time--at least for me--to stand for what I believe, to be a rock in the river. If others don't like it, then they can go around me. I don't see why I should always have to be the one to go around others. I don't see why I should always be the one to have to worry about "offending" others.
