The times may change, but the internet illiterates remain the same.
Update
In the comments, "Kate Lives Alone", posting from ip address 207.35.190.72 (registered to the polling company Pollara) writes;
"Hey, Katie, you're the one who lives with ugly little dogs. What is your relationship with those animals?"
Kate, if stats turn you on, great. I don't care. Knock yourself out.I do note, however, that you've declined to tell your readers that you permitted posting here from people saying my children deserve to be raped, and so on. I mentioned that during the show, and you kind of went silent, at that point.
Anyway. Good luck to you, in your quest for bigger and better statistics.

Then 17 minutes later, 12:40, Kate nails Kinsella to his cross !!. (I would bet, not because of my hunch ---- she is always miles ahead of me !!)
It is just that a long time ago I had some email exchanges with WK ---- civil at first, but rapidly his agenda showed through. But, I have to admit, he is probably one of the better Libs. After all, he did help take down the worst flake of a PM we ever had --- PMPM :)
Funny thing is, I have a feeling ole Warren is just getting warmed up. You probably haven't seen nothing yet...just ask Mark Bourrie or Robert McClelland if you think sparring with Kinsella is a fun, painless process. On the other hand, SDA is no OttawaWatch or MyBlahg, so he may have his hands full on this one.

Too late, Ringo. He's already shot his wad on this. He's libeled me on national radio and in the National Post. I don't think he was very happy when the Post showed him copies of his own emails to me, proving he was engaging in blatant blogospheric revisionism (per the second quote above).
The problem with Warren is that he's never had to deal with someone who has no political ambitions whatsoever and no higher-ups to whine to. So he can blast away all he likes. Those who read it just have to consider the source, and the company he's kept.
So he's reduced to writing Top 10 Jerk lists and leaving anonymous comments on my blog.

"Isn't Warren Kinsella a best-selling author and wellknown political pundit?"
Which makes one wonder why he spends so much time obsessing about a commercial artist in Saskatchewan, no?
Max - showing dogs is a hobby. There are no financial "earnings" to speak of as there are few cash prizes. Most compete for the love of the sport and to broaden their knowledge.
It teaches you a lot about the value of a thick skin, though. Perhaps Warren should get a dog and try his hand at it? Think of it as "personal development".

Here we go again.
I actually made the post that Warren is complaining about (and has been dining out on for years now). As he knows perfectly well, I did NOT suggest that Warren's children should be raped. I suggested that Warren himself was allowing people to rape his children. Needless to say, I don't think he should do that. But the fact is, he posted on his own website a series of posts in which he boasted of allowing his homosexual friends to molest his kids. He shouldn't say such things if he doesn't want them believed. I'm sorry I took him at his word, but of course, so is everyone who does that.
And of course, Kate permits comments, which means she pretty much had to "permit" mine. But I didn't post that remark because Kate "permitted" it. I posted it because Warren himself invited me to. On that particular day he was inviting his readers to post offensive comments at Kate's site, and his readers, with his full approval and express satisfaction, were posting offensive filth all over Kate's comments page. I joined in only because that was apparently what Warren wanted me to do. Clearly I was just a bit too offensive for his tastes, but how can I judge his taste in turds at this distance? If he didn't want filth posted, he shouldn't have asked for it.
Sorry, Warren. You only got what you asked for. You shouldn't have asked for it. You're well aware than the moment you expressed any concern, I requested that the post be removed, and it was. Hey, I only posted it because you wanted me to.
So, you asked me to make that post, I made it, and Kate removed it.. and SHE'S to blame for something? Blow it out your ass.

Such anti-intellectual sophistry is the sign of a dying culture.....a sad reminder that the average colonial parishioner 200 years ago was better read and more literate than what passes as the professional political class the days. Every time I see Kinsella's scribblings on the Internet I shudder to think this country was actually "led" by such juveniles. It's a testament to how safe and prosperous this country is that we can afford to suffer such fools.
Posted by: chip at December 5, 2007 6:47 PMThe IP address thing, as it turns out, is just a coincidence. While it's true that the Chairman of Pollara, Michael Marzolini, was Chretien's pollster at the time when WK was Chretien's advisor, that doesn't mean there's any connection between WK and Pollara. And although WK and the President and CEO of Pollara, Don Guy -- who the Star described as "arguably the second most important person (in Ontario)" were both campaign managers for McGuinty, that doesn't mean there's any connection between WK and Pollara.
Antonia Zerbesias once said her sources told her that WK was about to "link up" with Marzolini, but she quickly updated, as tends to happen in these sorts of situations: WK, as it turns out, only leased office space from Marzolini. Elsewhere, Daisy is described as being located "in Pollara's offices."
In other words Daisy, is not chained to Pollara. There's no link. Still, Daisy is an odd choice of name, considering.
Pollara's (motto?...slogan?) is "Measuring and Managing Civilization's Most Powerful Currency -- Public Opinion." The "Managing Public Opinion" part seems kind of stinky you look at how connected, or "connecting", to various media the honchos at Pollara are. Robert Hutton, Pollara's Executive Vice President and GM was a member of the Corus Radio team who applied a month ago to the CRTC for a new FM talk radio service for Kelowna. And in 2000, Connie Cheng, Pollara's VP of Western Operations was part of a group that included the (then) President of Pollara, Duncan MacKay, who were applying to the CRTC for an "urban music service", Vancouver, I believe, directed at ethnic communities. It also proposed that the station would have a talk component directed at ethnic urban issues.
"Managing public opinion." Or as TV Ontario's Steve Paikin says, Chairman Michael Marzolini "does amazing things with public opinion."
I read an article in the Guelph Mercury examining a "working families" coalition that was "seen to favour" the Liberals during the Ontario campaign; Don Guy was doing work for the coalition while he was the Liberal campaign director. "Pointing to this and other connections with the Liberals, the Conservatives have suggested that the working families coalition is just a Liberal front created to circumvent campaign spending restrictions."
Come on. As if.

Posted by: Bartinsky at December 6, 2007 12:53 AMI'm not sure this little google fight thing can be considered anywhere near accurate in terms of indicating a site's relative standing to another's, especially this site. By virtue of SDA's name you have three commonly used words that are going to pick up all kinds of sites that having nothing to do with this place. Warren Kinsella on the other hand is going to be more restricted to the actual individual.
Secondly, you can't really compare traffic stats of a commented blog to an non commented blog. They are two different things that stimulate user behavior in different ways. If you don't agree with me, ask Kate to disable comments for a month and then watch the traffic drop off.
Posted by: steve at December 6, 2007 1:18 AMWell, I have to say that SDA is a must read EVERY day-usually the first one I read when I get up in the am.

Posted by: Horny Toad at December 6, 2007 1:48 AMPollara, eh? Wasn't that a model of Dodge that went extinct?
Funny, I got a call a few hours ago from a woman caller working for Pollara. Obviously not a native English speaker, either.
I asked who had commissioned the poll. "We can't tell you that." I asked what the poll was about, and she responded by quoting the first question, "Are you, or any member of your family, employed in the media or belong to any political party?"
I declined to participate. Managed to waste at least half a minute of her time; wish I'd done better.
Posted by: gordinkneehill at December 6, 2007 4:32 AMSteve, re: "three commonly used word" - that's what I meant by Kinsella being an internet illiterate.
Secondly - yes, commented sites will generate more traffic through repeat visits, though not as effectively as those that update frequently.
However - there are about 200 - 300 comments left here each day. At peak traffic periods on average days, there are 600 Sitemeter (which under counts) visits an hour, and the majority of those come into the site through the main page.
While some of those will be our regular commentors, they represent a tiny fraction of the readership. Like email lists, and other interactive sites, the vast majority of readers never post. Many never click the comments at all.
I wonder what percent of the readership buy newspapers for it's editorial content ?? 2% ?
For the sports page ? 40% ?
For the news ? .... forget it --- the Internet is rapidly attracting most of the news hounds :)
Posted by: ron in kelowna at December 6, 2007 11:35 AM"Isn't Warren Kinsella a best-selling author and well known political pundit?" - No.
KW is only a pundit in the same light as the other "talking heads" the media gobbles up to spice up their coverage of nothing. "WK never was a smart man but he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once".(apologies to Forrest Gump and Holiday Inn.)
Frankly, I am not surprised anymore at the swiftness and level of personal attacks the trolls and leftoids resort to when a discussion doesn't go their way.
The implication that Kate lives alone so this must mean something bad or that she has dogs and it must mean something even more vile is truly pathetic. This man is a waste of oxygen and not even worth discussing.
