Kick off is just under an hour away. For Sask expats (or the just plain curious) who can't get the game on TV, you can listen live at 620 CKRM Regina (and get a better play by play than the CBC). From the reports coming out of a completely befuddled Toronto, the stands are going to be about 75% green&white.
As an indicator of just how big a deal this game is for the province - yesterday's Regina Leader Post featured 32 pages of coverage.
![]() | At times it wasn't pretty, but congratulations to Kent Austin, the Riders and the "Nation" - Grey Cup Champions. |
And special tip-o-the-hat to Premier Brad Wall and the SaskParty - for removing the NDP jinx from office and making a Grey Cup win possible again.
From a dog show list I belong to:

Dinwiddie should NOT be throwing those across-the-field passes. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson after the first pick.

I am so happy that the Grey Cup is All-Prairie.

I am not a fan, but with 2 grandkids born in Regina, and Kindersley, guess I can pretend to understand the game.
Congratulations, KateLand - turfing the Dippers, and winning a Grey Cup, all in one month!

Congratulations to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They could have laid down after losing their No1 QB but they played extremely tough.
Shockingly though like the Janet Jackson Nipplegate scandal at the superbowl a few years ago Canada now has the Lenny Kravitz butt crack scandal. :)
The WEST won the Grey Cup and the WEST was the runner up. Go Riders and Bombers!!

Posted by: Doogie at November 25, 2007 10:13 PMDamn. Good game -- our defense kicked the crap out of the Riders, but the offense couldn't move the ball. This is going to make next Labour Day unbearable.

Disappointed naturally but under the circumstances my beloved Bombers have nothing to be ashamed of.
Posted by: Bart F. at November 25, 2007 10:23 PM...Sask was lucky to win. One good QB and they'd be toast.
Winnipeg had the better defense.
Posted by: tomax7 at November 25, 2007 10:23 PMDinwiddie did the rookie thing.
He projected his passes, he went to the same well too many times.
But hey, how'd you react under that pressure?

GO STAMPS GO!!!!!
Cheers and see you next season.
Posted by: HaySeed at November 25, 2007 10:34 PMWe should take a page out of Edmonton's book and not waste any time in erecting road signs at every border entrance... "PROVINCE of CHAMPIONS"...since our new premier, Brad Wall, will begin the task shortly by making sure the premier of Manitoba honors the bet they had made. Perhaps we could finally sweep away the last vestiges of the "good enough" attitude that has pervaded this province for so many years. The change of government and this win could mark the end of mediocrity in this province once and for all. Go Riders!
Posted by: Daniel at November 25, 2007 10:43 PMI was at the game ($327 ticket, for which I paid nada).
Interesting to see fans of all teams in attendance. Some Lions fans in full get-up and face paint sat right behind me. Bomber fans directly in front, Rider fans all around. In fact the stadium was largely green.
Best sign was in the north end-zone: "B.C. Lions W.T.F ?!"
Which to me says it all - both the Lions and the Argos should be kicking themselves for not getting into this game.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at November 25, 2007 10:53 PMLet's build a giant tower in Regina and call it The Johnson!
Just Kidding, Ha.
Go Riders.
Posted by: kmn at November 25, 2007 10:57 PMForgot to ask: Did they show the marriage proposal on TV? During each break they ran something in the stadium to keep the fans entertained, and in the first quarter they had something going on that in the end was just a ruse so a guy could propose to his girlfriend. They took so long doing it the teams stood there waiting for them to get it over so they could snap the ball. (Fans didn't even have the chance to say "Noooooooo.")
Those TV breaks have got to go - they really do in the momentum of the game.

Posted by: john demerais at November 26, 2007 12:10 AMTo all Toronto football fans, you had your chance for the cup but you re-elected liberals. Sask got rid of the NDP and see what happened.
Think about it in the next federal election.
Tories win.
Riders win.
Planets are aligning; it's the end times.
Out of curiosity: so, how many pages of coverage do you get for provincial elections?
Posted by: Eugene at November 26, 2007 12:34 AMI've run out of tears.
To DJ and the rest of the excuse makers, you can say what you want. When they talk of KJ and Riders of '07, it will always include "Grey Cup Champions".
Posted by: A. Cooper at November 26, 2007 12:40 AMCongrats riders and all the inbred riders fans.
Your pal from Winnipeg, Big al.
PS, I thought it was a great game, and a lot closer then what most people thought. Defense ruled the day for both teams.
Posted by: allan at November 26, 2007 2:02 AMKate doesn't think the Riders could have pulled it through with the NDP in office, but let's be honest, most of the riders probably have no idea who is in office. If you're an American up in the Canadian farm leagues, Canadian politics are probably not as great as a focus for you as the typical visitor to this site.
I think Kent Austin deserves most of the credit for gettting the team in shape. That said I also think this adds to a sense of enthusiasm and optimism in the province which is anything but a bad thing. It was great to see them pull this off!
Posted by: steve at November 26, 2007 2:54 AM"If you're an American up in the Canadian farm leagues, Canadian politics are probably not as great as a focus for you..."
What if you're injured and hafta wait until the off-season to get treatment? Can't jump the queue on a CFL salary, "steve".
Posted by: jwkozak91 at November 26, 2007 6:49 AMToronto just recorded their 75th gun slaying.
The city now has the guns for the NFL players.
Strip joints, prostitutes and drugs are also requirements for the NFL.
Yes, Toronto is now ready for an NFL team.
I do wonder how much the potential owners want to bleed the citizens of Ontario for the team?
Maryland did forsaken their future for the Ravens. Will Ontario follow suit?
I must congratulate the Riders and their fans for their win.I also must tip my hat to Winnipeg for their superb performance.
Long may the CFL reign!
Congrats to the Riders from Winnipeg! Regardless of the outcome, you have to admit that it was nice to see 2 prairie teams in the final.
Kate may be on to something with her NDP curse. Last time the Bombers won was in 1990 under the Filmon conservatives!
Posted by: Rene at November 26, 2007 8:22 AMCongrats Riders. A great victor for people who care about Football and about Canada.
Sadly, it is disappointing, and hard to understand, how a great victory like this turns into an excuse for Toronto-bashing for some haters.
Once again, here's a link to Stats Can.
http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/legal12b.htm
Murder rates:
Ontario: 1.47 in 2006, and 1.54 in 2006.
Saskatchewan
2.71 in 2002, 4.06 in 2006. HIGHEST IN CANADA except for Nunvaut.
Alberta: worse than Ontario
Manitoba: worse than Ontario.
From another Statscan report:
"With 9 homicides in 2006, Regina reported the highest rate (4.49 homicides per 100,000 population—corrected) among Canadian CMAs, followed by Edmonton (3.68). Toronto, Canada's largest CMA, reported a rate almost identical to the national average (1.83)."

So, those of you who love to hate Toronto, take the truth and shove it up your....
Regardless of the crime stats, if the Bills move to Toronto from Buffalo I will stop going to the games. There is no way in hell I'm going to pay twice as much for a ticket, drive to some mass transit station so I can get downtown from the burbs, pay $20 for a beer and $10 for a crummy sausage, and not be able to enjoy the atmosphere of a tailgate party in the parking lot (having beer purchased at the duty free on the way over). The CFL is just right for our uniquely Canadian attitudes towards fun.
Posted by: Greg at November 26, 2007 8:50 AMOops - at the end I should have said Ontario attitude, sorry to lump the rest of you in there.

Posted by: DrWright at November 26, 2007 8:54 AMLori,I wasn't Toronto bashing but NFL bashing.
All are giving Toronto a double thumbs up for an excellent Grey Cup!
Go Argos!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Riders! A well-deserved championship for a great team and a great fan base. Well done and wait 'til next year...ARRRGOOOOOS!!!!!!
By the way, Lori...don't let the Toronto haters get ya down. One of the nicest things about living in the centre of the universe, and the best, most advanced and important city in the country, if not the entire Western world, is that you don't have to worry a lot about what other people think. :-)
Sucks. I was definitely pulling for the Blue on this one. Ok, Kate, you can ban me now. Heh.
Posted by: mark peters at November 26, 2007 9:44 AMSorry to add this so late but I watched the whole game on KDMI, a digital channel, here in Des Moines, IA. Cheered the Riders on throught.
