Y2Kyoto: Running Out Of Time

Running out of tarmac;

[T]he management of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport are concerned that the large number of additional private charter flights expected in Bali during the UN Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC) December 3-15, 2007, will exceed the carrying capacity of apron areas. To meet the added demand for aircraft storage officials are allocating "parking space" at other airports in Indonesia.

I detect the the global warming alarmists are starting to lay the groundwork for a retreat from their fanatical views, in a manner that allows them to save face. Consider this from Suzuki's site:

"But if successful, we can ensure that global emissions peak and start to decline in the next decade, and continue sharply downward to levels that ensure that the impacts of climate change are limited and manageable, allowing humans and most ecosystems to adapt to them."

That's quite a change from the rhetoric even just a year ago. Me thinks they realize their gig is just about up.

Posted by: TJ at November 23, 2007 1:05 AM

Watch them jockey for credit in the coming months when they start announcing the progress they have made. All their efforts in alerting the world and then steering it in the right direction is finally starting to pay dividends. The well being of the world is now secure thanks to the few that really cared. The hindquarter sniffing and self-satisfaction should make us all ill for years to come.

Love the unintended irony of the question on Suzuki's webpage.

"How do you keep warm without cranking the furnace?" - get a taxpayer subsidised two-week vacation to Bali!

Hope Al-Qaeda approves, and none of the delegates unwittingly become transformed to carbon.

Anybody watch the Global TV news tonight? Looks like 'On-tear-e-O' just go a good dose of the old global warming phenom!! I thought the fruit fly and his group masturbatory sycophants were promising plus 40 until at least April next year??

What the pluck happened??

Dr. Suzuki,

A real leader brings public focus to the prime problem and the priority cure for same.

This sea of information on your blogsite is entertaining to some, but a diversion that makes Exxon, Chevron and GM SMILE.

Debate - procrastinate - Too late!

The priority must be the retrofit of carbon scrub-tech for the tens of thousands of Coal-Gen plants world wide.

Along with Africa*s massive liquifaction Coal plant.. the world*s most prolific pollution generator.

Dr. Suzuki, please, where is YOUR prime focus?

TonyGuitar.blogspot.com

======================== = TG

First, CPP's go-ahead to their share of the AMP-Ohio coal plant is contingent upon the results of an independent assessment by an engineering consultant (to be selected) of the viability of implementing the ECO2 CO2 carbon capture technology developed by Powerspan Corporation of New Hampshire.

This technology, essentially a CO2 scrubber, is designed to remove 90% of CO2 emissions from the plant's flue stream, and is being tested in pilot scale at the R.E. Burger powerplant owned and operated by First Energy (NYSE: FE).

If the assessment indicates that the Powerspan ECO2 CO2 scrubber technology is not-ready-for-primetime, CPP is out of the deal.

Second, assuming the new coal plant is built, AMP-Ohio is committed to retiring its 1950's vintage Gorsuch coal powerplant.

Clearly, replacing an old relic with a new plant benefiting from 90% CO2 capture will lead to substantial CO2 emission reductions, relative to the status quo.
==================
Thus, there is more to the story than might initially appear to the casual reader.
=================
Assuming that both of the above conditions apply, the construction of this new coal plant is actually a good idea, not a bad idea.

The moral of the story is that environmental advocates need not have a rabid knee-jerk reaction against new coal plants, if new coal plant construction results in substantial CO2 emission reductions.

Really, this is standard negotiating practice -demand the moon and settle for Toronto

It is uncertain what the desirable level of social/tax/environ changes that they (as in the IPCC backers and AGW supporters) really expected to achieve. They certainly knew they would not get all that they were claiming. Looks like we are really just finishing round one of negotiations.

However, given that AGW supporters have little more to scare people over, I would say that they have shown all their cards too soon.

Expect the backlash to really hammer their position over the next 5 years. Which is precisely why they will want to lock in all their perceived gains now.

Have these people never heard of VIDEO CONFRENCING. I'm sure the technology is available in lots of places.

And, why is that all these wonderful meeting are held in the nicest climates when the weather's the s**ts in Ottawa? Curious, isn't it?

Posted by: Mike in White Rock at November 23, 2007 7:54 AM

High speed internet connection and an inexpensive web cam. Throw some software and a couple of moderators in a room somewhere in, say, San Diego, to act as traffic cops and you can carry out a week long conference without issue.

And, yes, I am speaking from experience.

Of course these folks know all this stuff, but now that they have a private plane they have to use it. :P

Posted by: mark peters at November 23, 2007 8:08 AM

The Liberal and Dipper critics are not included to attend this conference and I agree. They go on these missions to act up and make a mockery of the Government Minister's stand. They even admitted it when they said they promised to behave!!!! So it's pretty please, take us to Bali, we'll be good!
Damned jackasses.

Maybe they can hitch a ride with the fruit fly Doc, David Suzuki, he's gotta be going and he'd be happy to have some like minded people along. He needs all the help he can get to resuscitate KYOTO.

Posted by: Liz J at November 23, 2007 8:09 AM

The only way for the climate cult Druids to prove to me they aren't profiteering alarmists is to hitch hike to Bali...or stay home and save the carbon foot print...friggin' creeps.

Ever notice how these gala AGW stage plays are never held in cold climates...why not Anchorage? They could do a photo op showing us the drowning polar bears and the missing ice shelf...but nooooooo...they have to go to hot humid tourist traps to chug Agung Daiquiris at the Hilton and chase the native booty while saving the world.

Oh come on guys! It's about global WARMING! Winter hitting in Northern latitudes and the coldest winter down in the Southern latitudes just don't fit the bill.
Besides, they gotta get there before the AGW generated tsunami hits Bali, and then the island disappears when the ocean levels rise 20+ feet!

Posted by: Justthinkin at November 23, 2007 8:45 AM

Dunno Justthinkinm I think Soozook went to dally with the local sex trade workers in a tropical setting....a chance to kick back and spend the wad he collected evangelizing carbon fear in his snow-bound homeland.

No beach-side booty call past August up here...gotta go south to chase STWs and AGW groupies around a beach. ;-)

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at November 23, 2007 9:14 AM

Well, if it's global warming they're spouting they'd hardly want to have snow and cold in the background for the photo ops.
It's steam heat they need outside and air conditioners inside to further pollute of course.

Also, the climate in Bali will allow Suzuki to re-do his pose in a fig leaf.

Canada should have boycotted the silly thing but alas , we have to play the game until the bone heads who are trumping this GW scam are all found out and proved wrong.

I found this interesting statement on Dr. Fruit Fly's Bali-blog "Canada emitted 596 tonnes of greenhouse gases in 1990. That figure rose to 747 tonnes in 2005." Now I'm no environmental scientist, but I do believe that would be 596 and 747 mega-tonnes.
Poor Richard

Posted by: Richard Saunders at November 23, 2007 9:36 AM

It is interesting that Kyotoism is fading from the front pages; the hysteria around it is vaporizing in the MSM and the rhetoric is backpedalling. Is it just winter or is it that saner minds and better science have emerged?

Dion no longer talks about it; he failed to bring down Harper with it, which was his only concern about Kyoto and the environment, and has moved on to a new hysteria: Mulroney-Schreiber.

Posted by: ET at November 23, 2007 10:08 AM

Of course it needs to be held in Bali

1) It is warm so no worries about there being an unexpected cold snap that cpld happen anywhere north of the tropic of cancer

2) It is a nice place, so who wouldnt want to go

3)It comes closer to nature so lots of "native like" tv shots, and dont we all just really want to live like our ancestors did, in a tropical island paradise.

As for the comment of are they backing down....yes, now that they know Kyoto is dead and that a new treaty is being worked on that will include everyone, then this is what they wil discuss.

If they say that its too late then what reason would there be to sign a treaty.

I dont know the full effect of CO2, I do know that there has been lots of problems with the proof and evidence. My main concern is that everyone needs to be part of the treaty, or at least all of the major emitters that includes China, US, Russia, India, Korea, Europe, Mexico Canada etc etc.

I dont care if the Azores signs.

But the last treaty was a mistake, this time the adults are involved and should yield a proper compromise.

Posted by: Stephen at November 23, 2007 10:29 AM

Now this is freaking dangerous.

Why? It isnt because she did it, but becase you can see in her atitude that she would like to force others to do the same.

A zealot of the highest order. Humans are a scourge on the earth. She is dangerous and the logical conclusion to her thinking is she should terminate herself.

Since when did "believe in human caused global warming" = "not allowed to fly anywhere for any reason"?

Is there some person out there flying around telling other people not to fly around EVER?

From what I've seen you people don't even believe in human caused global warming, so are you pointing out that they use airplanes to get around to imply they're hypocrites (see point above about which of those people are flying and have said you should never fly), or are you conceding that flying around matters and has an effect on the environment?

Go Bombers.

CBCPravda's headline:
"Harper stands alone on climate change at Commonwealth summit"
This is a complete deliberate distortion by the leftist CBCPravda/MSM.

> Revised headline: Canada's PM Harper and Australia's PM Howard stand together against the hoax-fraud known as Kyoto-II.
The more CBCPravda/MSM attempt to undermine PM Harper, the taller PM Harper grows; the smaller the animals of the valleys appear.
...-
CBCPravda adds this in its cunning linguistical sophistry: "Other than Australia, Canada is the only member of the 53-nation grouping that has not fallen in line".

Place your bets for SC24 on 'SOLAR SCIENCE' blog.

The Great Global Warming Debate (GGWD) may soon have a definite winner.

[Each morning I turn on my computer and check to see how the sun is doing. Lately I am greeted with the message “The sun is blank - no sunspots.”] Solar Science

[The Russian Academy of Sciences annnounced a paper predicting a Dalton-minimum style cooling because of extreme weakness in the predicted strengths of Solar Cycles 24 and 25. It looks like Greenhouse Theory and the Solar Cycle Theory are about to get their sternest tests.] SS

[Solar Cycle 24 is late. It should have arrived six months ago, but so far the sunspot cycle has failed to materialize and the Sun is extremely quiet.] SS

Could all the man-made-global-warming[sic] of the past few years be wiped out by the sun ?? And, as has happened since time begun, a global COOLING cycle is just around the corner ?? In another 10000 years we will be under a mile of ice ?? AGAIN !!

Rob, you understand that charitable foundations are not allowed by their tax status to engage in political advocacy. If Suzuki did that in Canadian politics it would be a violation of the charitable status of the foundation. Real issue here is there's never been a proper examination of the status of any of the green groups with respect to their advocacy activity and whether or not it conflicts with their charitable status.

Posted by: cgh at November 23, 2007 2:37 PM

If leftards are so worried about CO2, they can make themselves into carbon sinks by killing themselves and being burried.

Put up or shut up. There is a difference between conservation of nature and Kyoto. On has to do the environment and Kyoto is a back-door attempt to impliment what the USSR failed at: communism.

So all lefties: die quickly please - mother gaia is waiting.

Please note "commandment #1 " which delineates the fact this new age, eco-sound, green, multicult utopia can't happen until 90% of us are culled off...the surviving population will be riled by new age elites who will run a world court and technocratic socialist society with a single language and state sanctioned religion.

At the very core of ALL eco-alarmist activist is the rotten soul of the depopulationist.

As far as they are concerned mankind is a plague that must be eradicated like a pest to controllable numbers...and then closely regulated by an elite celestially-tuned green priesthood....never forget that, These people ARE NOT humanitarian...they are ANTI_humanist...you are better off dead as far as they are concerned because YOU are causing the bad weather and threatening the earth goddess.

Funnily enough, gun control advocates don't run around waving handguns, so why would CO2 haters travel to one of the most remote regions in the world using the most carbon-intensive form of transportation, short of a Saturn V rocket?

Hypocrisy, that's the reason. Most, if not all of these folks see this as a money-making opportunity while paying lip-service to environmental concerns.

Prime Minister Harper is getting trashed at the G&M. Seems like most there are anxious to start sending their C tax $ to Bangladesh. I guess that is what was signed up for under the Liberals. Now it is either pay tax $ to undeveloped countries overseas or close oil production. And China and India are exempt from Kyoto so emmisions are not expected to go down.
