Saskatchewan deserves to win the Grey Cup, go Riders!

Posted by: Bruce Randall at November 18, 2007 7:53 PM

Michael Bishop stunk the joint out today.

I hope the Roughies-Bombers game is one of those back and forth, last second field goal, 45-44 kind of games, with the Roughies on top.

GREEN IS THE COLOUR!!!

WE'VE GOT THAT RIDER PRIDE!!!

Posted by: mad eye moody at November 18, 2007 7:54 PM

Predictions:
1) Sask 31 Wpg 21
2) TV ratings will be very low. Almost no one east of Kenora will watch
3) TO will get a bucket of my money to build a new stadium so they can lure an NFL franchise north

No win today

No win today

November 2007, the month Saskatchewan really turned the corner. Firstly, a new and vastly improved government, and now "Champions" of the Western Conference of the CFL. From an ex Saskatchewan farm boy, now a resident of Alberta, Yeah Saskatchewan! Next the Grey Cup. You are filling me with envy.

Posted by: Bob Wood at November 18, 2007 7:59 PM

Hey Bob! Come back home, man. We're a happening place!

Posted by: a different Bob at November 18, 2007 8:02 PM

Congrats to the Riders and their fans, but I'm really glad the Lions got humbled. They've been cheating and playing dirty all year, and finally what went around came around, and the arrogant asses got it clobbered. Wally's repeating his Stampeder pattern; great regular seasons, then hiccups in the playoffs.

Posted by: cynical joe at November 18, 2007 8:05 PM

I'm a member of The Argonotes, Band for the Argonauts. I was hoping for the Rider nation and Argos. Glad to see the riders made it. We're going to have a great Grey cup. And yes the Argos stunk up the joint.

What can I say.....???

The cockiest team in the west and the cockiest team in the east both went down today.....how fitting.

One of the Toronto players made the comment that Winnipeg would be lucky to get 10 points...how ironic.....Toronto gets 9....HAHAHA

Posted by: notasocialist at November 18, 2007 8:07 PM

yeah!! I was at the playoff game against BC last year, decked out in Green and man...the heckling, projectiles, etc. that we received from those fans... Damn I wish I were there to return the favour right now. >:)

Posted by: steve at November 18, 2007 8:08 PM

Good job, 'Riders, you deserve the win.

Saskatchewan has just won the Grey Cup, without Glenn, Winnipeg doesn't stand a snowball's chance.

Congratulations a week in advance!

Prediction: Sask: 35, Winnipeg: 16

I'm just sad I couldn't be there to hold the door open for all the lion fans exiting BC Place at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Well, we have it! The West Vs the Middle East!

And to those who claim Bishop stunk; maybe, just maybe, the Bombers D had a little to do with that, hmmm?

To all the Rider and Bomber fans headed to the big smoke: Try not to wake Toronto up! Party quietly, they'll likely have a heart attack if you whoop it all the way up!

Yes!! This game made me a very happy prairie girl (living in BC)!! Brought back memories of watching the Roughies play with my late father back in the 70's. This win is for him!

Posted by: Soccermom at November 18, 2007 10:45 PM

The downside of this is that I'm going to have to call my elderly great-aunt in Winnipeg and totally wail on her... She's been a Bombers fan forever. I only hope her heart can handle it.

GO BLUE GO!

Posted by: allan at November 18, 2007 11:16 PM

I am glad it's the Bombers and the Riders. It would have been a great game if Glenn was healthy. As a BIG BLUE fan I predict Sask 42, Bombers 13. How unfortunate.

Where CFL football really matters. In the prairies!

Posted by: Bob H at November 18, 2007 11:22 PM

Sadly, the lesser team (sask)won today.

Very sad day for Canadian football.

Posted by: Ted From Cranbrook at November 18, 2007 11:34 PM

At least the cup will be in Western Canada, that's all that matters.

Posted by: Peter at November 18, 2007 11:40 PM

Congrats to both the Bombers and Riders today!
Riders looked very impressive in their win today.
The Bombers, once again did not look terribly impressive but found a way to win. Defense looked very strong again.
Look for the Bombers to have another excuse filled victory and beat the Riders!
Bombers 23 Riders 16
GO BOMBERS!!

Posted by: Jay-mo at November 18, 2007 11:45 PM

Gee Ted,

what a sad, sad, pathetic comment. The lesser team gave up 7, count em, 7 sacks 2 interceptions and had a secondary like a sieve. They didn't have the character to win tonight. Maybe the TV reception wasn't so good in Cranbrook tonight but the rest of the country know who was the lesser team. To bad pussycat.

Posted by: DT at November 18, 2007 11:52 PM

Hey Ted,

The 'greater' team made a lot of mistakes today. The Riders have had a good consistent season this year. This was no fluke.

Posted by: soup at November 18, 2007 11:54 PM

From a Lions' fan living in Winnipeg, my hat's off to the Riders on a well-deserved victory. It really sucks that Glenn is done, as I bet it would have made one of the best all-time Grey Cups.

And yes, I'll be cheering on the 'Riders. Go GREEN!

Posted by: Johann at November 19, 2007 1:23 AM

And yet the Riders are still corrupt and racist.

Rough Riders and Blue Bombers? Sounds like a night out at a gay pot bar! heheh, just kidding folks, keep yer knickers on.

The green machine will take it, they're overdue. I may just take a break from watching real football to catch a bit of the game.

btw, who's doing the half time show this year, Celine Dion or Jack Layton? (it is in Toronto...)

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Riders goin to the Grey Cup :)

On a side note: Kevin Glen is injured again? Surprised? You gotta be kidding me, he made it though about 15 games this season he was due for a couple injuries this game. I am still glad he is gone from the Rider benches. He is a stellar QB,... but only when he doesn't get injured. (which was about every 3rd game he played in Sask). The Bombers were just lucky he stayed as healthy as he did this season. Don't count out Dinwitty though he is gonna be a strong replacement if he can get over the rush of starting in the biggest game of the year.

Posted by: Barcs at November 19, 2007 8:44 AM

Congratulations all you Rider fans. I'm a Rider fan myself, for the next week or so anyway, and then I'll have to go back to being an Argo fan...

Posted by: Darrell at November 19, 2007 9:11 AM

From a Stamps fan congradulations Riders. Your defense was absolutely dominant over supposedly the best offence in the league. The 2 most arrogant teams in professional sports are watching tv next weekend while the west plays in the grey cup. Wally continues to put great teams on the field with very little results, looks good on him as he has become as arrogant as his teams. Good luck to the Riders next weekend...Riders-24, Bombers-6

Posted by: GrantK1 at November 19, 2007 9:38 AM

Does Winnipeg have a backup quarterback with ANY experience? It's really sad to think the showcase game in the CFL is going to have one team without it's number one QB, and then try to convince anyone they'll be competitive.

If Vegas gave odds on this game....no, they probably wouldn't.....1000 to 1?

Posted by: dmorris at November 19, 2007 10:01 AM

TED: BC were so full of themselves they were legends in their own minds. Unlike BC who thought it was superior and did the funky chicken on every play or every time they got in front of the camera the Riders just played hard and performed.
Keep it up BC keep telling yourself your Lions are great while the world passes you by.

Grey Cup will be a great game.
Better than anyteam vs the 2007 Patriots (yawn)

Posted by: aj in calgary at November 19, 2007 10:04 AM

The CBC is replaying the five greatest Grey Cup games next weekend.

The 1989 Rider win over Hamilton is not one of them.

I guess a 43-40 game that was decided by a field goal with just a few seconds left doesn't qualify.

Morons.

Posted by: clair voyant at November 19, 2007 10:19 AM

In light of the Rider win perhaps the torch could make a comeback.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at November 19, 2007 10:29 AM

Dmorris, if you're offering those odds, I'll lay a fiver. Let me know if you accept.

The Bombers front seven will make it interesting. Let's not forget Joseph, the MOP candidate from the West, was barely 50% passing with just over 200 yards. Good thing Jackson was terrible, because Joseph wasn't much better.

And Clair, the CBC shows classic games every year, and not necessarily the most exciting. I've seen the Riders win on their schedule in previous years.

Posted by: scott at November 19, 2007 11:27 AM

I see this as a win-win-win-win-win-win-win situation!

Sask beats BC - I win because I always bet against BC

Winnipeg beats TO - I win because I always bet against TO

Grey Cup - WPG beats Sask - I win because it's the home team

Grey Cup - Sask beats WPG - I win because:
a) My buddy who works for the Riders will very very happy
b) I get to watch a bunch drunken fools in Regina climb street lamps and break beer bottles ... then mock Fools from Regina ( who probably voted for the NDP anyway)

Bonus Win - I get to mock Torontonians for being themselves

Lastly - I'll watch the game and enjoy it in spite of the (probably as usual) lack luster Grey Cup performance.
But who knows? Maybe I'll be surprised.

Racist because of the way they treated players like Kenton Keith and the way they got rid of Shivers.

Corrupt because Tillman (the weasle) hired his best friend, Austin, without interviewing anyone. That and Jim Hopson is generally a bad, bad person.

Posted by: Robert S. Porter at November 19, 2007 12:38 PM

Without question the ramblings of an ahole. Porter if you're looking for racists look no further than Shivers. Compare his sorry record with what Tilman and Austin have accomplished in one year. A berth in the Grey Cup no less. Was never going to happen under Shivers and Barrett. Hopson looks like a genius.

Posted by: prospector at November 19, 2007 4:06 PM

Let's have some fun with this and really annoy Toronto. I suggest we take the gold from the bombers and the green from the riders and repaint the cup. We can then call it the John Deere Cup. A cup that we on the prairies can be proud of!

Posted by: Rene at November 19, 2007 6:56 PM

Porter if you're looking for racists look no further than Shivers.

Typical ignorant comment from this province. The type of person who labels every black player and thug and shouts the n-word at the players. George Reed was right, this province is the most racist place.

The team is essentially Shiver's anyway.

Posted by: Robert S. Porter at November 19, 2007 7:30 PM

The only drawback for Saskatchewan is the short blob of buffoonery from Wascana with his arse sitting in the HOC. He stood and puffed off about the Rider's win and going to the Grey Cup today, kind of took away from it somehow.

When he's not brown nosing around the Liberal leader or prospective leader he's making all sorts of desperate snortings as the desperate twit he is.

Posted by: prospector at November 19, 2007 8:47 PM

All names are silver on the Grey Cup.

Most people here don't give a flying rats arse what colour you are. You're a good person, you don't get in trouble with the law, you are respectful to the fans and media, you do some wonderful work in the community, you listen and follow your coach and team leaders, you act as a role model for children (and adults), you fight through injury because you want to win so damn bad. You are one win from bringing home the Grey Cup, through sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and grit, to some of the greatest fans a team could have.

Oh, you're black/native/hispanic/asian....? I didn't really notice and I don't really care. You're on my team. I got your back - you got mine.

George Reed, who I am sure is a great man (never met him), is only one opinion. Why was Corey Holmes so happy to come back? Why did Kerry Joseph LOSE money to stay here? How come Hunt, Floyd, Adams, Dominguez....... all stay here? I don't think its because we are the most racist place.

They don't care what colour their skin is. It doesn't matter. They play football. They are good at it. People love what they do in and for our community, and love them for it. Colour doesn't affect that; it doesn't affect anything. They realize that and act like that, and then others realize that and act like that. What else do the Rider players and their fans realize?

We're all Green on the inside.

Hopefully on Sunday, our boys end up Grey, too.

There are many reasons why a player would choose to stay despite racism. Be it jobs or Grey Cup contention, but that doesn't defend the conduct of the province. If you dig deeper you will see that the province accepts some black players and not others. It is directly related to how they act and this province is quick to label many of the players "thugs". That's where the racism comes from and it must be defeated.

I don't follow you Robert, how is judging a player by how they ACT racist? Isn't racism when you judge someone based on their skin colour?

And if the player does choose to act (dress, walk, talk...) like a "thug", assuming you mean the (life)style so disgustingly over-portrayed in music videos, movies, television, etc., then is it not rational to label them as such? And then, is the labeling not due to the actions of the person rather than their colour?

Posted by: SKite in AB at November 20, 2007 5:45 PM

Robert Porter, it was Shivers who said that he would only hire a black coach and didn't consider hiring a white coach.
Wouldn't that be an example of racism?
As far as this being Shivers team, at the end of June, 17 of the 42 players were new. Since then there have been even more changes.
Shivers and Barret never made it this far, I guess the proof is in the pudding.
Mind you maybe it's now that the NDP curse has been lifted from Saskatchewan the Roughriders are destined to win the cup.
Tillman's trades this year have been nothing short of brilliant; Cates for a back up O lineman, Holmes for Armstead and Getslaf, etc etc.
Regarding Kenton Kieth, Dungey had to have a little chat with him and tell him to lose the attitude or he would never play in the NFL again.

Posted by: Stan at November 20, 2007 8:44 PM

This is the first of the Sask Party's hidden agenda items. Riders win the Grey Cup 4 years in a row.

Posted by: djcanuck at November 21, 2007 12:49 AM

I don't get this whole football thing. The players are mercenaries...dogs who will hunt with whomever provides their meal. How is that anything to be proud of?

Posted by: ol hoss at November 21, 2007 7:15 AM

I don't follow you Robert, how is judging a player by how they ACT racist? Isn't racism when you judge someone based on their skin colour?

Because you're putting them into a group. You are saying that because they listen to rap/where chains etc etc they must be gang bangers.

And if the player does choose to act (dress, walk, talk...) like a "thug", assuming you mean the (life)style so disgustingly over-portrayed in music videos, movies, television, etc., then is it not rational to label them as such? And then, is the labeling not due to the actions of the person rather than their colour?

That's racist. To assume that because they dress "black" that they are fair game to be placed into a group and assume to be criminals is pure racism. The labeling comes from the immediate association of black and a style of dress or not acting "white". It all comes down to you thinking that black culture is not as good as your white culture.

Posted by: Robert S. Porter at November 21, 2007 10:31 PM

Robert Porter, it was Shivers who said that he would only hire a black coach and didn't consider hiring a white coach.
Wouldn't that be an example of racism?

That's a bastardization of what Shivers said. What he said was that he would jump at the chance to hire a black coach, not that he would ignore all white coaches.

Tillman's trades this year have been nothing short of brilliant.

Tillman's trades are overrated. The most significant addition was Kent Austin, whose success is a fluke. Not to mention that fact that his hiring is a sign of Tillman's corruption. Tillman and Austin are friends and Tillman interviewed no one.

Regarding Kenton Kieth, Dungey had to have a little chat with him and tell him to lose the attitude or he would never play in the NFL again.

Provide me with a link to this. Until then I'm saying it's a load of garbage.

Posted by: Robert S. Porter at November 21, 2007 10:40 PM

Porter, according to you Tillman hired his friend Austin, therefore Tillman is corrupt. It doesn't matter that in his first year as coach Austin brought the green riders to the Grey Cup.

Now compare that to Shivers who hired his friend Barrett only because Barrett was black. Shivers then kept Barrett on the payroll even though game after game Barrett was outcoached and was proven to be incompetent. Shivers didn't give a damn about the team. He only wanted to prove a blach GM and black coach could succeed and in that regard he was a total failure. The guy was racist to his bones and I figure the same applies to you Porter. FYI blacks can be racist as well as whites and your mindless drivel proves that statement.

No that's completely irrelevant. Just because it worked out does not excuse the initial corruption.

Now compare that to Shivers who hired his friend Barrett only because Barrett was black.

Barrett and Shivers were not friends before. They became friends after.

Shivers then kept Barrett on the payroll even though game after game Barrett was outcoached and was proven to be incompetent.

Hyperbole.

Shivers didn't give a damn about the team.

Completely not true.

He only wanted to prove a blach GM and black coach could succeed and in that regard he was a total failure.

Yeah because getting to the Finals 3/4 years is a failure.

Excuse me you accusitory little weasle. Your views on Shivers are predicated on incorrect information. And calling me a racist is quite rich coming from you.

Never said they couldn't. I'm sure Shiver's wife, Carol, who happens to be white, would agree that he's a huge racist.
