Bird Flu! Bird Flu! Bird Flu!

birdflu.jpg

Whoops.

A mutated version of an adenovirus, a common family of viruses that normally causes simple colds, has caused severe respiratory illness in patients of all ages, including healthy young adults, U.S. health officials announced Thursday.

The new and virulent strain of adenovirus serotype 14 (Ad14) killed 10 people in parts of the United States earlier this year and put dozens into hospitals, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

[...]

"The cases described in this report are unusual because they suggest the emergence of a new and virulent Ad14 variant that has spread within the United States,"

When a mutant pandemic virus does strike and claim many victims you can rest assured it will have mutated by design in a gummint weapons lab and not in an MSM editorial board room. ;-)

I think it has already struck. I've been flat on my back expectorating mucous for most of this past week. I've moved beyond the point where I was worried about dying. Now I'm worried that I won't.

Blech.

Problem with being self-employed is that my customers have limited sympathy. They want their computers fixed NOW. Never mind that I'm so zoomed on Contac C that there's no way I can safely operate a vehicle.

So when it hits canada where people have to sit on the floor in emergency rooms one wonders how many will die,

God bless 1 tier third world health care, but as long as the unions are happy thats the main thing.

Sooner than later, the big one will strike. I don't know if there is a cure for bird flue? I've been feeling under the weather lately. The bug has been "Robin" me of all my energy. And I was married to a vulture for a few years. I'll try and "Swallow" my bitter pill, and I,ll most likey be OK!

It CAN'T be true.

CTV hasn't tried to terrify everyone yet!

Dammit Spurwing, you really know how to cut to the chase. You gotta love these avian references.
Bravo Plover!!

Several people in our office came down with it. Typically lasts 2 to 3 weeks.

We called it SARS light.

This must be what's kicking my Phantom butt this week. I'm dragged out since last Wednesday.

Now is as good a time as any to ask you to STAY HOME if you even think you have the flu. Ask someone to run to the local super drug mart, and stock up on gingerale, painkillers and gravol. A good hot toddy will help you sleep.
Don't waste time in the local ER. They will send you home with the same advice(it really is not an emergency!)You are only going to sit in a waiting room for a few hours instead of lying in bed.
Going to er exposes too many others.
Best prevention...frequent hand washing.

From a health care worker.

IMHO flu vaccine is a pharmaceuticals goldmine and a political hot potatoe.

Oil of oregano. P73. If you can handle the taste.

Mine is a flu that seems to have transitioned into a chest cold and sinus infection. I've been laying low at home, popping cold meds, and drinking Neo Citran (bleh). That and listening to the messages pile up on the answering machine.

Please, please, please, listen to Bluetech. By going to work sick, you're only hurting yourself and your company. No bullplop about toughing it out, folks. What's worse? Losing one person in an office for a week, or losing five people for three days each?

In the air traffic control world, if you even look like you might be sniffling, you're suddenly of the untouchable class. You stay home, get better, and then come back to work.

Posted by: Yukon Gold at November 16, 2007 10:38 PM

It hit me last Sunday afternoon, over the worst, still coughing as it's in the chest but not as bad as yesterday. Fever gone, nose running gone. Wife went down yesterday. Neo citran or Life product that makes you drowsy at night worth taking.

Fear of Flu epidemics sell lots of placebo vaccine ;-)

If My pal owned a big generic Pharma like Apotex and I owned a propagandist news monopoly, I'd be pimping pandemic virus fears too...right Dave?

You've got it right there WLMR.
My nanny state province is forcing health care workers to have the useless vaccine in spite of evidence that it won't work.I'm taking a stand and refusing.I will be 'sent home' if there is an outbreak, but the employees that get the 'placebo' vaccine will stay.
There is no information available on the long term effects of repeated injection of flu vaccine.

BTW even tho I pay huge union fees, they are useless to help me stand as an individual. The union wants the vaccine as a 'protection for workers' issue. The union is the new corporation.I would like protection in the form of deciding what to do with my body. There is no evidence that I would be a risk to anyone as long as I follow proper hygeinic procedures. And Tamiflu is another risk.
It is all part of the illusion(delusion) that the government CAN control everything.
Kate, I realise you introduced this as 'bird flu' paranoia, but I believe this is relevant.

'Sounds like what I've been struggling with for three weeks. It hit really badly two weeks ago when it went into my chest and I felt like I'd been hit by a Mack Truck. 'One day off work then had to go back. 'Said I was being held together by prayer and Tylenol. 'Cough's still hanging on, hack, hack, hack. Tenacious 'little' bug.

Things that USUALLY work at the first inkling of a sore throat: Zinc citrate pill, gargling a lot, hot bath up to your neck for an hour, with a glass, preferably bottle, of your favourite spirits, to bed early, and tons of water. Nine times out of ten, I head the cold off, but not this time.

It's little wonder the French call it "La Grippe."

Well you're right to do so...you work in the health industry, you know that these mass created flu vaccines are full of all sorts of pathogens unrelated to flu...read the reports...murcury and other toxins are also in these things...they just take a bunch of unsold vaccines, amke a stew of them and sell them as viral curealls to the feds.

...and the QA/accountability on Vaccines is next to zero...once big pharma gets the medical community and/or government to administer this poison cocktail if there are any lawsuits for product safety, they have the Feds, the CMA and AMA to protect them because doctors and the government are essentially co-defendents when a less than healthy pharma product is administered by them...like Thalidomide, psychotrophics, Vioxx and a dozen other untested toxins from big pharma.

Better to build your own natural immunity with a sick week than take on the potentially carsenogenic stews being offered as viral placebos.

Have had this ^$^& bug for 3 months, turned into walking pneumonia, and now I'm on 3 different puffers! yes 3! And I still haven't coughed up what's in my lung! Haven't any energy because I can't breathe properly! Woe is me!

Posted by: Teddi Spearing at November 17, 2007 4:41 PM

All you people struggling to fight off the bug, get lots of rest. Even if you go to work, just go for a few hours then get home for an afternoon sleep. Drink lots of water, as your body fights the infection, your kidneys filter out the guck, get rid of it asap.

Years ago I had my very first , and only flu shot. I was so sick as my immune system lost complete control of my sinuses. I changed from totally plugged to streaming freely pints of liquid a day and that liquid comes from your blood. It took 4 months and was so bad at one time that I thought I would have to take long term disability.
