On A Clear Day You Can See All The Way To New Brunswick

From the comments;

Dion was on TVO tonight, Paiken's show, and said something like: 'I was in PEI when things were looking bad for Premier Graham against Bernard Lord'.

give him enough rope he will hang himself and we can point and laugh. it's probably not nice but it feels really really good.

Completely off-topic, but Google for Achmed the Dead Terrorist and watch it.

Catharsis via comedy.

It's at 8 million views at YouTube so far and will make Jeff Dunham's career.

On a clear day, Dion cannot see anything because his head is stuck so far up you know where.

How did he botch that one so badly? At least he got the region right I guess. Considering there are hardly any Francophones on PEI (well does anyone live there is the question), I still do not understand how Borat Dion messed this one up.

Steve Paikin slipped on his long white sheepskin gloves and proceeded to 'interview' Stephane Dion. Then he gentled Dion over to the other side of the studio where a former Liberal MPP waited to buoy him up. It was great fun, though, to watch the faces the panel from Quebec made every time Dion spoke.

So, when's Steve Paikin going to have Stephen Harper on?

I like to think it hasn't happened because the PM is just too busy. But I rather suspect it's because The Agenda, with its young, often cocky, and history-began-in-the-'60s mindset, wouldn't entertain a sitting Conservative Prime Minister, let alone a Conservative Leader of the Opposition.

I watched The Agenda nearly every night when it began, but soon tired of it's...well, agenda...which tips in the left-of-centre direction, which, frankly, I've grown tired of, especially the steady diet of it in the Canadian MSM.

A little variety, please.

Agreed - the Agenda has become more leftist. Steve Paikin is a good interviewer but, he's still in the 1980's view of Canada The Suburban White Picket Fence Peacekeeper.

He handled Dion as if the latter was a timid four year old, speaking slowly, simply and leaving all of Dion's contradictory, incomprehensible and inept answers unchallenged.

Dion just kept repeating his mantra of 'We Will Make It Better' and insisting that Harper doesn't know what he is doing, while he, Dion, knows The Best Way. Unfortunately, other than providing us with these opinions, he had no data base, no evidence, - nothing - to show that any of his opinions had any validity outside of his own dreams.

He is, furthermore, totally incomprehensible in English.

Give Paikin his due- he is an intelligent guy but sadly in my view a leftist and it shows.
Sort of a male Judy Rebick type host.
Also on the Ontarian's public dime, our own mini CBC.
I have stopped watching him long ago.
Are there no Hannity's, O'Reilly's or Laura Ingraham's in Canada at all?

Geez!!

Leave Citoyen Borat Dijon alone...

....he;s the gift that keeps on giving...to both comedy and CPC fortunes.

Joe: "Give Paikin his due- he is an intelligent guy but sadly in my view a leftist and it shows."

I agree, Joe. Paikin IS intelligent, but how come if he's so intelligent he lets his leftist petticoats show so blatantly? I mean, they're bright pink, bordering on red!

The truly intelligent person isn't a leftie, because the mess Canada is in right now is the result of lib-left thinking and governance (if you can call it that). I don't think it's very intelligent to not recognize this, and it's definitely not intelligent to let Dion off the hook when interviewing him.

Barbara Frum was the ultimate in good interviewers. She challenged those she interviewed whether they were from the left or right of the political spectrum, especially when they gave lame or stupid answers.

Steve Paikin needs to learn how to do this, otherwise I'm not sure "intelligent" is the most accurate way to portray him.

And, Joe, I'm clear that there are Hannitys, O'Reillys, and Ingrams in Canada, it's just that they've been deep-sixed. Anyone on the right with any savvy was snubbed by the CBC a long time ago and deliberately left out of the media loop.

'Ever see Judy Anderson in action? She'd obliterate the opposition and leave them gasping for breath. Judy Rebick refused to go on camera with her. 'Wonder where she is these days?

Agreed - there ARE intelligent, unbiased people here in Canada. But the MSM in Canada is a small, incestuous community - made up of friends of friends, intermarried with each other and kept closed to 'different people'.

Hirings are done by their 'committees' of friends, to hire yet more friends. That's what happens in small communities. They become closed, self-isolated and immune to change. Anyone with a different view won't be admitted to The Club and most certainly, if they got in accidently, would be hounded out in a month.

Can't we see the headline in the Toronto Red Star had Harper forgot where the hell he was and confused PEI with New Brunswick!!!

Yeah, Steffi is THE GIFT that keeps on giving but we have to do our own investigative digging through the Blogs.

The Libs and their minions in the MSM are still hiding the poop, Iggy was unintentionally accurate in his musings about a Puffin for Liberal Mascot.

"That's what happens in small communities. They become closed, self-isolated and immune to change"

Sounds like Winnipeg.

For those who had any doubt about Steve Paiken's ideological leanings or preconceived notions of the Dion leadership, check out his blog post prior to the Dion interview.

http://www.tvo.org/cfmx/tvoorg/theagenda/index.cfm?page_id=3&action=blog&subaction=viewPost&post_id=6258&blog_id=43

Some choice pre-interview quotes from Mr. Paiken:

The macho, 10-second-clip world of official Ottawa is not Dion’s natural milieu.

He is a more academic, thoughtful, dare I say softer politician, who tends to excel in surroundings such as those our program provides.

I guess that explains the softballs for a politician who the interviewer describes as having...well...softballs.

Steve Pakin's problem as an interviewer is that he's a genuinely nice guy. Doesn't like to hurt people's feelings. He's also friggin' HUGE, I'm sure Lil' Stephi thought he was in the studio with a Sasquatch. (I'm big, Steve's got like six inches on me.)

But lets face it, Steve works for TVO. Are his producers going to let him ask the Liberal leader pointed questions? No way.

If they had Harper on (and he was dumb enough to go) I'm sure the questions would change.

But by God, Steve would be NICE about it! :D

Try e-mailing the guy--Paiken, that is--and he ain't such a nice guy. That's his television personna. Underneath the mask, he's a condescending liberal.

Posted by: 'been around the block at November 10, 2007 6:38 PM

I altogether concur with batb. Steve Paikin's as liberal as they come and doesn't like being challenged. He's as obtuse and arrogant about criticism as the CBC.

Anyone who's watched The [Left Wing, Anti CPC, PMSH] Agenda will know that the deck's always stacked: it's as much who's not on, as who is. And watch Steve put the words he wants in the mouths of those he interviews: recently, he was quizzing some "expert" and opined to the effect that the Charter and multiculturalism were a nice fit. The guest demurred. Steve tried again, with his aw shucks grin. He was foiled again. Nice moment!

I used to watch The Agenda regularly. I now make a point not to: channel hopping, if the topic seems interesting, maybe once in two months. But it's virtually always a disappointment: including Steve on the Left, the "balance" might be Left: 5; Right: 1 (and often a weak rep. at that).

From someone who used to be taken in, believe me, Steve's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

But Dion Quixote (slayer of poverty) wants to be PM so he can call a premiers conference. That way he can get BC premier Glen Campell to sing that lineman song.

Posted by: Joe at November 10, 2007 6:59 PM

Why are we surprised when the Leader of the Opposition gets confused over PEI and NB. Didn't a former Liberal PM confuse Norway with Normandy. How much more does it take before liberal voters realize that the intelligence, charisma, and the like that they thought they were voting for is nothing more than a faint rendition of "The Emperor Has No Clothes". ( If that is too subtle for the trolls you could substitute "The Liberal party has no brains".) ;-)

Al Gore has become as wacky as the rest of these green nuts that fall from the trees every year at this time SQUAWK SQUAWK

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at November 10, 2007 10:03 PM

Right, Antenor, looks like the Libs are geographically challenged, recall smart ass McCallum who referred to Vimy as Vichy.

Strangely they still get all fussed up about the little incident with Stock Day when he goofed on the direction the Niagara River flowed.

I wish Liberals like Steve Paikin would just google Scamslist and free themselves from their mistaken loyalties.

Check the comments at Calgary Grit and others under *Scamslist*. Entertaining and valid too.

The 200 scams are from the more reliable parts of the MSM like, National Post and the Ottawa Citizen. = TG

Random sample... Remember any?

54. The RCMP is investigating possible fraud and bribery within Industry Canada, involving possible *overpayments* to recipients of federal business grants. The probe centres on the National Research Council, which hands out federal grants to small- and medium-sized businesses.

55. More than half a dozen bureaucrats have been “removed” from their jobs at a Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) in Toronto following a police investigation into projects funded under one of the department’s grants and contributions programs

56. Revenue Minister Elinor Caplan called in the RCMP and ordered a sweeping security review after four tax department computers were stolen containing confidential personal information on more than 120,000 Canadians.

Thanks, TG. That's what I mean about MSM stooges like Paiken. How can they be called "intelligent" while supporting shysters like the Librano$ who were, and still are, scamming Canadians, stealing our money, putting it in private stashes that can't be audited, etc.?

That's not intelligence, it's collusion with the enemy, IMHO. Invincible ignorance, too.
