Saskatchewan Election Roundup

John Murney has the best round up of Constituency profiles and bizarro predictions (Rick Swenson?) on the net.

At NDP Boogeyman, this delightful quote from an NDP candidate - "Although I have no evidence, I just know, here in my heart and in my soul, that the Sask Party WILL sell the Crowns!"

Lance critiques the SaskParty platform in a series of posts. (scroll down)

Rejected Campaign Slogans: Entry #1 .

Oops. Saskatoon city counsellor Darren Hill nabbed tearing down anti-NDP signs.

The NDP qoute about the Crowns reminds me of a Simpsons quote.

"I have plenty of hearsay and conjecture. Those are kinds of evidence."

Posted by: Voidraithe at October 30, 2007 11:40 AM

Actually, and very sadly, the Simpsons more or less sum up the state of Sask politics.

That being, it's 16 or 17 years on from the last tory gov't and Bart and the NDP are still in Grade 4.

Interesting the commie angst over "selling the crowns". In most cases they are a state owned monopoly. Don;t sell 'em....just dissolve their monopoly status and open the service to competition and let the consumer decide if they get better value from nanny or her competition.

There is overwhelming evidence that the Saskatchewan Party will sell the crowns: 1) Their ideology requires such a move. 2) Any time, anywhere in the world, a party with the same or similar ideology gets power, it goes on a privatizing spree. The fact that the SP refuses, in the midst of an electoral campaign, to admit that they would sell the crowns means absolutely nothing.

exile: are you playing the role of Lionel Hutz (Simpsons) here? Surely you jest that your statements are what pass for overwhelming evidence.

Posted by: Frenchie77 at October 30, 2007 12:08 PM

Although I have no evidence, I just know, here in my heart and in my soul, that the Riders WILL win the Grey Cup if the socialists are sent packing!

Posted by: L'il Walter at October 30, 2007 12:09 PM

Although I have no evidence (anymore), I know in my heart that the NDP WILL seek to stomp out capitalism in the province.

Alas, there are a lot of people who believe that that's not a bad thing.

I have it from an insider that Sasktel is about to change its name so it can expand its business outside of Saskatchewan. But Sasltel is waiting until after the election to make it known.

If the NDP get elected they will say its necessary for the former Sasktel to change its name so it can do business in BC etc....

If the Saskparty gets in, and the fromer Sasktel changes its name, the NDP will claim that they were right as the name change is the first step to privatization.

Anyone out there know anyone who works at Sasktel. Ask them to deny the proposed business name change.

Heart full of soul lyric, yardbirds 1965 ,

Sick at heart and lonely,
Deep in dark despair.
Thinking one thought only
Where is she tell me where.
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea

And I know if she had me back again
Well I would never make her sad.
I've gotta heart full of soul.

She's been gone such a long time
Longer than I can bear
But if she says she wants me
Tell her that I'll be there
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea.

did anyone else hear the 10am news on newstalk980, they played a clip of calvart talking about the ndp donations, it was fab! " ther, ther, ther, ther, theres nothing to hide." the radio station didn't have the nerve to play it again at 11am

You seem smart, and even though your content is mind-bogglingly all over the place, it seems oddly coherent. That you promote shit sites like NDP boogeyman though makes me lose much respect.

Re the S'toon coucillor tearing down the signs, from the radio station's report:
"City Solicitor Teresa Dust says only authorized city staff are allowed to remove signs that violate city bylaws"

Classic non sequitur.

The issue is not the signs violating city bylaws, but the fact that a city councillor is engaged in vandalism. Thus a secondary issue is that the city's solicitor is engaged in deflecting the public's attention from that criminal behaviour, becoming, in effect, an accessory after the fact.

(Either that or the station cherry-picked the solictor's words to help protect the councillor, but I doubt it.)

It would seem that both need to get smacked.

(Her excuse is BS as well. A city bylaw against littering doesn't prevent me, as a private citizen, from picking litter off the sidewalk if I choose to do so.)

I thought you said I was too scary for prime time? ;-)

I figured it was the only way to make you stop begging...

Posted by: Kate at October 30, 2007 2:42 PM

A city solicitor is not going to come out and say that anyone in the city committed a crime right off the bat. And since this isn't even a political sign from one of the parties, I'm not sure if what he did was illegal. Immoral, probably, illegal, I dont know.

Posted by: Todd at October 30, 2007 2:43 PM

What "he did" was get caught. LOL....

If you're a nazi I'm a commie!!

Doug said: 'A city bylaw against littering doesn't prevent me, as a private citizen, from picking litter off the sidewalk if I choose to do so.'

And I might ad, City of Regina Bylaw 9900 does NOT restrict Sobey's picketer's freedom of speech (during the Sobey's strike), it only demands that they CARRY their pickets signs rather than hammer them into the ground ON City property.

So, which way does the Unions want it? You aren't going to have this one both ways!!!

"I figured it was the only way to make you stop begging..."

Heh. If two emails (one a joke) equals "begging", I'm glad I didn't send another and get downgraded to "groveling".

Observed at www.saskndp.com 's homepage:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in E:\web\public_html\saskndp\ohcms\includes\config.php on line 21

haha! looks like the NDP can't even run a reliable website.

I can't believe anyone would be surprised at someone tearing down signs critical of the NDP. It's standard fare here in BC.

Some years ago, we had an BC NDP Cabinet Minister and thirty or so union supporters cause absolute chaos at an anti-NDP rally. They stormed the stage, shouted down speakers, disconnected the PA system and were nearly able to activate the fire alarms in the hockey arena in which it was held.

Pulling down signs is nothing.

After a week of national media condemnation, they claimed a right to behave like fascists by branding the rally of 7,000 people 'a hate rally' - despite the fact our speakers included an economist, a forestry union member and even a candidate for the Green Party.

Your SaskNDP are just tame puppies!

Hi Kate - I had to make it interesting somehow! In fairness, I never said Rick would win, only make Thunder Creek more interesting to watch!
