Posted by Kate at October 27, 2007 11:06 AM...good for the students! Must be something about the salt in the left coast air that corrodes the brain syntax to think rationally...
Posted by: tomax7 at October 27, 2007 11:45 AMI'm a little confused. Why was it announced that the motion "passed"?
Posted by: Eugene at October 27, 2007 11:47 AMGood on the students of UVic to stand up and defend the actions of our military; supporting the very democracy our soldiers uphold with a vote. To bad those on the "Nay" side don't understand that the right they are allowed to speak against thier countries military is the right our soldiers are out to defend.
Irony at it's finest in the Lotusland of the Left.
Watching that and talking to several students it sure renews my faith in the younger generation, especially the Uni crowd. After never hearing from that silent majority for so long I figured they had all acquiesced to the leftover philosophy.
I had it pointed out to me by one 20 year old student that the only ones that have the time to run for the students union are the liberal arts types, they take one or two useless subjects and have time to burn. For me this was different and will probably cost come exam time but figured my time was worth it to put these losers in their place. She also made this comment that I found very interesting, they are the same bunch of left wing activists that are tomorrows NDP’ers in government. I am simply to busy trying to get ahead and better myself, I don’t have the time, and besides, I don’t want to work for the Government anyway.
I was shocked, a reality check from someone a third my age. There is hope and this gal pointed that out to me very clearly, go get the world kid, you obviously aren’t part of the loser class.
I went to UVic and it is definitely a warm and fuzzy kind of lefty type of place. A overwhelming rebuke like this to come out of such a left coast place. The anti-military NDP and the sneer at the military Liberals are probably ready to develop a twitch.
There is a lot more support for Afghanistan and a do something besides sit at the airport policy than the MSM is spinning.
Posted by: Bruce at October 27, 2007 1:06 PMGood Work Students!!!! For a rare moment, this Canadian felt proud of being a Canadian!! Wow...that felt really good...and sadly to rare......
Posted by: Devon Hill at October 27, 2007 2:03 PMBe prepared for some extra traffic Kate. LGF has pick up the story and is linking to SDA.
Posted by: Largs at October 27, 2007 2:19 PMI will never forget the YouTube clip of Canadian soldiers engaging a group of Taliban in a free-for-all firefight after being ambushed. Over the murderous fire being laid on by the Canucks, you could hear their Sergeant screaming "Give it to them, boys!!"
Real Canadians are real men and real women. Maybe now they have a real government worthy of them.
Posted by: sherlock at October 27, 2007 2:37 PMThe problem is that 98% of the sensible majority people are too busy getting on with their lives and try to ignore the loonies. So, a small number of dedicated leftie lunatics hijack the agenda. The same happens in school boards, government committees, and everywhere. The same happened in England with recent well known union votes relating to Israel.
Once in a while the sensible majority get annoyed with something particularly eggregious, get out of their stupor briefly, and take righteous action.
Too bad it happens so infrequently.
Posted by: Lori at October 27, 2007 2:54 PMI like the story about the Canadian engaged in a firefight with the Taliban who shouted over the gunfire "Where do you want your well?"
Posted by: Kate at October 27, 2007 3:17 PMI read Christie Blatchford's dispatch (sorry can't re-locate it.) and I was surprised that the security for the guys that fix things in A'stan are reservists and a large portion of them are U of A students. In fact the head of security was a 24 year old engineering student. Made me think there is hope.
Posted by: Speedy at October 27, 2007 3:39 PMThis news was enough for me to check out the school. Unfortuantely they don't have a football team (that's football played in pads and helmets, not futbol played in silky little shorts), so it's out of the running, but I'm still glad to hear the news. Canadian schools are not out of the question if things like this keep happening. I mean, the CFL has got to have a feeder system, doesn't it?
Posted by: dm60462 at October 27, 2007 4:20 PMWonderful vid and great outcome. But I agree with another poster, at the end the moderator/chair seems to say "It's very clear the motion passes...". Passes? Did she go on to correct that statement or am I missing something?
Posted by: DaMav at October 27, 2007 6:04 PMWell done. The usual bunch of leftoids seem to forget that a military is for two purposes; protect your country, and kill or be killed by the enemy. It isn't to clean up the streets of Tranan or bring Querbecers firewood. That said, guess who will be screaming the loudest for a military when they are being shot at? Sure won't be Conservatives. Most of us told Rock to shove his gun registry up his butt, and kept our guns and ammo. And by-the-by lefties, don't come running to me.You are worse then the enemy, and I like moving targets!
Posted by: Justthinkin at October 27, 2007 6:28 PMDoesn't anyone follow Robert's Rules of Order anymore? The motion as read ("Be it resolved that the Canadian Military *not* be permitted to book space within the SUB for purposes of recruitment.") was a negative motion, which is not allowed under the Rules of Order (the word "not" should have been omitted). And at the end when the chair said "very clearly passed" those who had voted Nay cheered. So much for logical thinking. Unbefreakinglievable.
Posted by: Ed Minchau at October 27, 2007 7:50 PM"you are worse than the enemy, and I like moving targets". good line I like that one allthough when the shooting starts the left will be crawling back into their holes and calling for Jack to do something cause you know he "speaks for all Canadians".When the hell is that revolution I've been hearing about from the leftists going to start? Someone whom I respect said awhile back "bring it on".Good on ya U.Vic students.
Posted by: c.j.g.of eroticalee at October 27, 2007 8:24 PMEd,
I was just about to point out the same thing. It was an illegal motion.
Posted by: Rob Huck at October 27, 2007 10:43 PMMy favourite moment...when the chair couldn't believe the numbers that supported her motion (illegal as it was) and asked the question again in baby language...same kids put up their hands.
I find it hilarious that she actually believed that she was in the majority.
She also said that the motion passed even though it was struck down (I think she did this in error as she was probably confused and embarassed at the outcome of the vote).

Good thing she wasn't being called upon to perform under fire -- "grace under pressure," you know, that sort of thing -- with the lives of others hanging in the balance. Not NCO material, I'd say.
Ironically, the chair of the AGM you speak of is a former President of the BC NDP.
Posted by: Graham Noyes at October 28, 2007 3:15 AMOf course it was an illegal motion. It made the left look stupid. Any motion that makes teh left look stupid is illegal.
This, incidentally, is related to why the Left have such a hard time with democratic governments.
Posted by: DrCruel at October 28, 2007 3:22 AMChasing Che Guevara from campus politics one ballot at a time...novel concept...democratic activism verses tribal marxist militancy in representing vox populi
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at October 28, 2007 9:45 AMThey don't get any smarter as they grow older, through their whole life reality escapes them, born dumb die dumb.
Posted by: Western Canadian at October 28, 2007 12:18 PMHow come the media focuses on a town in Quebec the size of my third nipple, why ignoring this story.
I guess the script doesn't lend itself to soap opera we've been forced to watch for as long as I can remember.
"

Thanks for that GN...made me chuckle.
