hahahaha.
nothing like voting for individuals in an election.
Posted by: marc in calgary at October 25, 2007 11:27 PMReminds me of that good socialist songwriter/singer Pete Seeger.
Their all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
More like "another brick in the wall". A brick of what, I won't comment upon.

If you are referring to Kate - not so. Follow the links.
Idiot.
vaguely reminds me of the soylent green movie
Posted by: kelly at October 26, 2007 12:28 AMDoesn't surprise. These are purely paper candidates and wouldn't know what to say about the constituency or the issues there.
Posted by: Saskatory at October 26, 2007 12:30 AMNeil,
The quotes were invented and falsely attributed to the NDP candidates by whomever writes those press reports (an NDP staffer) - what are the odds that all five of these people said the exact same sentence?
That's the whole point of Kate's post!
Idiot.
Posted by: sf at October 26, 2007 12:31 AMWell at least Calvert wont have to correct them like Wall did D'Autremont...
Dan was out of the country, eating donuts...he didn't know I changed the policy on the fly.
Pathetic.
Posted by: anon at October 26, 2007 12:36 AMWhat they are actually proud of being is a bunch of power-hungry, money-grubbing, parasites -- sorry for the virulence, but I get tired of hearing the same old stupid phrases, like "fair share" or "all the people" or "social justice" or "the people's this or that" . Just watched Ed whatever his name is, premier of Alberta break a contract and talk about how good this was for the shareholders -- this is just the Little Red Hen Story with a different ending -- she gets mugged, her bread is taken away and she is forced into a labor camp to make bread for all the people.

After reading this I have to admit that PMSH has a lot to learn if he wants to reach the upper echelons of being a control freak.
Posted by: Cal at October 26, 2007 12:42 AMsf - apologies. I obviously thought you were a troll and were referring to Kate.
Posted by: Neil at October 26, 2007 12:53 AMAstounding they made it a quote. That's newsworthy.
Posted by: Saskboy at October 26, 2007 1:03 AMunlike when the Sask Party MLAs (you know, the 28 of them who actually managed to get elected) put out the same spelling errors over and over in their releases...
how many was it? 10 who spelt "goverment" because they're all written in a central office with no concern for their local constituencies?
pot. black. nice to meet you.

Posted by: Richard Evans at October 26, 2007 1:14 AMA brick of what, I won't comment upon.
Andy, are you aware of the latest tech buzzwords? "Bricked" - to be rendered ineffectual/inoperative; useless. Usually performed by software sent via internet ("pushed") by a manufacturer to a formerly functional device that makes it no longer useful.
Unless I'm mistaken, the term comes from Apple's recent remote "bricking" of iPhones that purchasers have had the audacity to modify. For example, unlocking hidden features, allowing connection to unauthorized networks, freedom to install different software, change the device's behaviour, etc.
I suppose I could come up with some analogies.
Posted by: PiperPaul at October 26, 2007 1:18 AMjason.....maybe the NDP could have learned a lesson from the ol sask party then.
Or, as I see it, they don't pay attention to what happens in the world. They just do. Never adapt.
Anyone read the SP on Thurs about how MTS and Sask-Tel compare after 10 yrs of scary "private" ownership of MTS?
Posted by: jeff.k at October 26, 2007 1:24 AMjeff: have you asked the Sask Party about that privatization? what did they say? will they privatize, then, if MTS is so successful? if not, why not? why be scared if it's so successful?
please defend the party you're willing to defend, because I see hypocrisy is allowed on this blog. cheers!
Posted by: jason at October 26, 2007 1:46 AMjeff: oh, and maybe the NDP could have learned. how would I know, you think I'm running their campaigns?
ha! nice one.
how about people are free to make comments without having to defend anything? because that seems to be the way the smalldeadanimals community operates..
Posted by: jason at October 26, 2007 1:47 AMGod that really is funny. Socialists can be such fools.
How long before they change those quotes I wonder.
Posted by: TJ at October 26, 2007 2:09 AMOld Chemist (12:38 AM)
Yes. There's not much one could add to what you've written, except that now is probably a good time to bail out of Canadian petrochemical stocks.
jeff.k (1:24AM)
I just read the SP article... a perfect comparison of crown assets and how they operate, versus how private enterprise runs a similar... make that IDENTICAL... business.
Sasktel is one crown corporation which should be privatized POSTEHASTE while the people of Saskatchewan are able to extract considerable capital from it (1-1/2 billion dollars? More? Less?), and ALL the proceeds from the sale used to pay down accumulated debt; this could, and should, be followed by a provincial tax decrease to Saskatchewan businesses and residents in the amount of what would be saved on servicing the debt... oh, $80 million+ per year, maybe $100 million.
Sasktel's capital will simply erode over time until they just "close the doors"; a government owned business just can't compete with privately run business, at least not on a level playing field. Sasktel is small potatoes compared to Telus, BCE, Roger's, Verizon, etc... New Democrats don't seem to understand that. Maybe they should pick up a novel, or at least read an excerpt from a good book;

Really, it's an easy concept to comprehend.

NDP Energy Plan Will Save People Money On Energy Bills
Published October 18, 2007
Premier Lorne Calvert’s NDP government has announced an energy plan that will provide significant savings to Saskatchewan people.
"Energy conservation will help Saskatchewan people save money on their energy bills" - Lorne Calvert
Except that's not what happened recently here in Ontario when Ontarians cut back on their consumption after the blackout of 2003. Our rates went up despite our conservation and we were told that because power plants have fixed costs yada yada yada the price does not correlate to consumption.
And didn't Kate do a post a few months ago exploring Sask consumer natural gas price hikes despite dropping gas prices?
www.saskndp.ca/news?id=101
Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that within six months of re-election he would convene a Citizen’s Assembly to make recommendations on improving the functioning of democratic institutions in Saskatchewan.
...
The Citizens’ Assembly will be a non-partisan group of randomly-selected individuals who reflect Saskatchewan’s demographics and geographical regions. The Assembly would consult widely and propose changes to the province’s electoral system. Among the items it would consider are:
* fixed election dates;
* methods for increasing voter participation;
* representative models; and
* voting age.
Game the system to give the NDP a permanent advantage, in other words, via mandatory voting, PR, and dropping the age to 16.

NDP Announces 10,000 Training Opportunities
Published October 17, 2007
Premier Lorne Calvert says an NDP government will provide 10,000 more training opportunities to meet the growing need for well educated and highly skilled workers in Saskatchewan.
Total cost? Err...undisclosed.

Global news last night Kevin Newman gave the impression Sask was the very symbol of prosperity all Canada should emulate.What's up with that,is he on drugs,was Lorne under the table,or what?Just wondering.
Posted by: madasl at October 26, 2007 5:34 AMIs that the Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies? Lorne will not be back, Hasta la vista NDP.
Posted by: rations at October 26, 2007 6:38 AMQuotes are fabricated by the backroom boys and put into news releases all of the time. For the opposition party, it is the party staff that does this...for the governing party, it is "communications staff" paid for by the taxpayers.
Look at any news release of any government. They use the same attributed quote approach...quite pathetic, if you have even the foggiest clue as to how the system works.
Just goes to show that political parties (all of them) consider the voting population to be fools (and, for the most part, I think they're right).

"We are all individuals"
"he is not the messiah he is a very naughty premier"
All political parties at both levels have templates for everything these days, anyone who has worked an election knows that. So yeah, kettle. pot. black.
Is this all that is left to nit-pick on?
Posted by: Sean S. at October 26, 2007 11:57 AMYes, of course, Sean S., that is all that is left to nit-pick on...everything else is just freakin' rosy! Gosh, your comment was moronic.
The point of the post, as I take it, is NOT that the quotes are (obviously) manufactured, but also completely lacking in imagination. Couldn't they have said SOMETHING slightly different in each manufactured quote?
Posted by: Eeyore at October 26, 2007 12:53 PMSean, a template should not attribute a quote to a person who didn't say it.
Posted by: saskboy at October 26, 2007 1:22 PMNote that they did change it to "she said" for Sarah, though, so it's not a total cut'n'paste.
