The Ignobel

Say what you want about the Goracle's win, but you have to admit, the field was weak.

I dunno , he's in good company .

You're right, a pretty weak field. But then they don't make money from their work, why should they get any recognition? It just shows what a gleaming example of the left can accomplish with the right friends. The epitome emptiness from the self-adoring left.

Or to Irena Sendler

Posted by: Unclemeat at October 14, 2007 3:16 PM

Thanks for the info on Irene Sendler and the school girls in Kansas. The Nobel 'Peace' prize has been tarnished. The people involved with the 'Life in a Jar' project do not deserve to be on the same page as Gore...the deserve much more honour and recognition.

Nobel Peace Prize + Emmy + Oscar = Buckeye Newshawk Award + 1 (small) box of Timbits.

Posted by: GDW at October 14, 2007 4:05 PM

Please, what has fat ass Gore done for Peace in the world?
The people who decide the winners of the Nobel have taken it from prestigious to meaningless.

Ignoble is the best to describe it for sure.

Posted by: Liz J at October 14, 2007 4:38 PM

I dunno, Liz, I'd say that giving it to a lying charlatan huckster is a major improvement over awarding it to a terrorist.

Posted by: Kathryn at October 14, 2007 4:56 PM

I had no idea there was a category for narrators of badly crafted propaganda films.

Did it cause peace to break out between vegans and vegetarians? Did some group lay down their arms somewhere? Did any criteria for winning the PEACE prize actually happen? No? Then WTF can be the only response I can muster, the world deserves less respect every day.

GDW: What kind of Timbits?

Posted by: Richard Ball at October 14, 2007 5:29 PM

What the West needs is an Appease Prize, an annual award going to the individual/organization that has done the most to placate and/or appease Muslim fundamentalists and/or other multicultural groups demanding their way of life at the expense of ours.

Posted by: Richard Ball at October 14, 2007 5:33 PM

What kind of Timbits? Actually, I have to 'fess up and admit that I've never bought a box, but after Googling it (I thought the question deserved some kind of answer), I found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbits

Seriously. They have an entry on Timbits. I love the internet.

Posted by: GDW at October 14, 2007 6:07 PM

Richard...are you gonna tell him or can I?

OK....I will.
Richard made reference to 'bits of truth' from Tim Ball as Timbits.
Now look at the 4:05 post.

Yes..I love the internet too.

Posted by: bluetech at October 14, 2007 6:17 PM

Suppose so Kathryn. Nothing surprises anymore.Credibility and honesty are no longer attributes to consider.

We may see a person of such attributes turn down the Nobel on principle in the future if it continues along this trend.

Gutfeld has a fresh take on the issue.

Compare with Gandhi:

Nobel Peace Prize

Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel peace prize five times, in 1937, 1938, 1939,1947 and finally in 1948, few days before his assassination. However he was not awarded the Nobel Prize because he was “neither a real politician nor a humanitarian relief worker" [4]. The Executive Director for the Nobel Foundation Michael Sohlam has gone on record to state that not awarding him the Peace Prize was "a big regret" of the Nobel Foundation. [83]

Holy crap, there are those other Timbits (yeah, I had to google that, too). Well, send a box to Al; he could use some of those more than any of that tin he's been collecting lately.

Cheers.

Terence Corcoran outdid himself in Saturday’s Post with his article: “A coup for junk science”.

“What a blow the award must be to the IPCC, self-proclaimed home of scientific rigour, to now be lumped in with Reverend Al and his Travelling Snake Oil Road Show and Climate Terror Machine.”

What could be more predictable? Al Gore getting the Nobel Peace Prize. So much for the devaluation of that prize; it means nothing.

Seems to me these times, where those who risk their lives for the freedom of others are nobodies and where self-aggrandizing, schmoozing, money-grubbing prima donnas like the Goreacle are lionized, were accurately prophesied in the Good Book:

For the time is coming when people...having itching ears ... will accumulate for themselves teachers [our Al] to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths (2 Timothy 4: 3, 4).

Al Gore: Myth Maker Extraordinaire: Nobel Peace Prize Winner.

Big deal.

It would be interesting to see, if the Hollywood crowd and the people that awarded the Nobel, know any of those other people that genuinely and with sword of Damocles by their neck worked and work actual peace work.
They could not give the prize for science, since it involved very little of that.

Posted by: Bolshevik at October 14, 2007 10:27 PM

At least Al the Goracle will never become president, as if he ran, he would then have to start answering reporters questions, and be challenged in debate where he would be exposed for the liar and snake oil salesmen he is.

Posted by: Alan at October 15, 2007 9:21 AM

Liars and snake oil salesmen can't run for president of US??

So what's up with the Klintons.....??

Seriously ..... The Nobel Foundation has truly jumped the shark with this years award of the NPP.
Even in the case of the incompetents like
El Baradei and the IAEA there was at least some tenuous conection between what they were supposed to be doing and achieving some measure of peaceful resolution to conflict.
In the case of the avowed terrorists Arafat ... the award was shared with Peres and Rabin for initiating a peace accord... again at least a tenuous connection with actually working for peace in some way.

The Gore and IPCC award is pure tokenism with NO relevance to world affairs or reality.

Frankly I do not care if the Nobel Foundation wishes to destroy their own credibility!

However it's a damned shame that they tarnish the value of this award by comparing the likes of those listed above with the likes of:
Albert Schweitzer. Linus Pauling, George C. Marshall. LesterB. Pearson, Martin Luther King Henry Kissinger, The Dali Llama, Muhammad Yunus, Shirin Ebadi, Michail Gorbachev and many others who have actually accomplished a measure of improvement in world affairs.

That IS a SHAME!!

More Gore lies

When Gore lies, flies die -- or something like that !

Posted by: Orlin at October 15, 2007 2:35 PM

How about a group award of the Nobel Peace Prize:

To the Teachers of Afghanistan who daily risk their lives at the hands of Taliban murderers in order to educate girls.

(And the million dollars that goes with the prize would stretch a long way in Af-stan for one-room schoolhouse construction, books, teaching supplies, etc. Now THAT would be a contribution to peace in the world.)

Posted by: Dave in Pa. at October 15, 2007 2:36 PM

Well dont forget that YASSIR(THATS MY BABY)ARAFAT also recieved this prestegious award and he was a terrorist leader and then there was JIMMY CARTER who was one of americas worse presidents got one as well now it gose to a fabricated and habitioual liar and hypotcrit
