does that cap apply to the Feds that have to pick up the tab for the first nations folks.

Stephen will be happy, it will be a transfer back of the transfer payments.

Gee, I seems to remember that we had a plan like that once. Wall is right - it was too expensive then and it is too expensive now. Wall is also right in saying that the NDP has the wrong "prescription" for healthcare. Calvert just can't seem to wake up to the fact that the money he plans to spend on a universal prescription drug plan should be spent on training new nurses, attracting and retaining physicians as well as shortening surgery waiting lines.

Did you hear on Gormley yesterday, a woman called in to say that a good friend of hers had been dignosed with a brain aneurysm (??)in June of this year. She got bumped from surgery enough times that they ended up burying her on August 24th. Fat lot of good Calvert's prescription plan is doing her.

My question.....how much does this cost every man, women and child in Saskatchewan to fund. In times like these, an economic upswing, it's easy to throw someone else's money around. Remember this isn't Lorne's money it's yours!

If those mutts are elected again you will be paying for the prescription drugs of a lot people you haven't met, and never will.

Wow, money for everbody from every party (not just the NDP for a change). Apparently enough booze got passed around Parliament to all three parties in order for them all to act like drunken sailors. How could we lose by voting for any of the three? Except its our money to begin with prior to the tax rape, something too few realize that with gov't handouts. Although so few people actually work and pay tax year around that for most I guess it is a handout. Silly me.

Maybe at 28 I'm just old fashioned, but here are a few things that would earn my vote in case any of the parties care:

-slash social systems in order to cut tax
-slash even more social systems to cut even more tax to draw businesses to our province
-slash even more social systems to cut even more tax to draw even more businesses to our province

I realize that this currently won't put "a chicken in everyone's pot" and that some may actually have to take some initiative, be responsible for themselves, and yes, even have to turn off their Expressview for eight hours a day and earn the chicken.

Why Kate is there no real world alternative to vote for?

As usual, the Devil is in the details.
Calvert's proposal is to cover "any medication covered under Saskatchewan's drug plan."
All of these drugs are listed in the Saskatchewan Drug Formulary (http://formulary.drugplan.health.gov.sk.ca/). The formulary is invented by SaskHealth to control drug costs for publically funded programs. Many drugs--the newer, more expensive ones--are simply not added to the formulary. As a result, these drugs are not covered by any public plan, including everything from drug coverage for social assistance recipients to insurance plans with private carriers for public employees.
Calvert can promise whatever drug coverage he wishes, but the formulary can decimate such a program and is/will be the actual governing policy.

Why doesn't anyone challenge Calvert on all of his broken promises from the last election?

Posted by: Trent at October 11, 2007 4:32 PM

Here is another thought. My father's employer brought in a funded drug plan where he paid 6 bucks a prescription and the employer's drug plan paid the rest. One of the companies I used to work for had a 100 percent funded drug plan (meaning I paid nothing out of pocket for prescribed drugs should I need them - not want them, but need them).

What happens to all that money now that Lorne (and us taxpayers) are picking up the tab? Seems like employer's have paid into an insurance scheme only to have the NDP pick up the tab and pay for prescriptions?

Another great example of Gov't getting involved in something that free enterprise had already addresses.

Go Lorne Go! Around the track and out the back! Go Lorne Go!

Ha! Where in the West do you find the most contented people????? Capitalist utopian Alberta? Nope. Liberal B.C.??? Nope. The correct answer is that Socialist Paradise called Saskatchewan!!!!

"Sometimes I like to think I'd like to go back to work to have a rest"

Yeah, why work when it's all handed to you by the great benevolent dictator? I could volunteer my @ss off too if I never had to produce anything and simply had to hold my hand out and have everyting given to me.

The CCF was founded on principals of assisting those who could not do for themselves. Somehow it's morphed into let big brother do everything and recipients can do as little as possible.

Lighten the load slackers, lighten the load.

It's a good idea. Most people don't have drug plan esp after retirement. Remember some people retire before age 65.

Posted by: ok4ua at October 11, 2007 6:27 PM

Don't knock it, socialism in Sask. is good for Alberta!!

Posted by: Albertan at October 11, 2007 9:53 PM

More people in the last year came from Alberta than visa versa.

Posted by: ok4ua at October 11, 2007 10:09 PM

I wish more peopole would read the BS on this blog. If this doesn't show the ignorance of uniformed buffoons I don't know what does. And you people claim to have seen the light.

Posted by: ok4ua at October 11, 2007 10:11 PM

Like your uninformed BS, OK4ua? If you retire before mandatory retirement age, chances are that you don't need the help. If you DO need the help, I would suggest going back to work. I would also suggest that if your prescriptions cost that much, to pay the $600 a year in premiums to get prescription drug coverage through Blue Cross.

Perhaps you would also like to enlighten us as to WHY those people are moving back from Alberta - you might find that some of them are coming back because they sense a shift in attitude and decided to come back in anticipation of the election results. Regardless of what you think, they were not coming back because they ALL OF A SUDDEN started liking the NDP, especially after years of outmigration.

Oh yes, contentment! Ignorance is bliss!

Long & short, the fact is, the majority of university students (whom the Sask taxpayer subsidizes the education of, thanks BTW) still see a brighter future outside of Saskatchewan's borders. Funny thing youth, it has hopes, desires, and wish for success. The reality of which is, "state planning & soicialism do not foster or reward", envy and greed don't fit with the optimism and energy of youth. SO, no matter what Lorne & Crew, or for that matter either of the other parties, yabber about, the exodus of the young continues. It is not "about the money", it is about "the future".

It will continue until a firm and sustainable private enterprise business class is established, where merit and effort are rewarded, and the sole determinant of advancement is NOT seniority or union dictated, only then will the new grads see future within the borders. The rest of canada, and certainly Alberta, must cringe at that possibilty, but hey, 50 years of moving backward won't change any time soon, so time to adapt is assured.

To a large degree, "OK" is right, the elderly, newly retired, dissatisfied, and of course the socially dependant are moving back. Hoorah!!

That much less of a present and future burden on the taxpayers of BC and Alberta, and that much more on the the minimal net tax base of Sask. Thanks guys. It is appreciated.

Whatever they gain from going in to the socialist haven (one of very few left) will soon be eaten up with increased travel to care (where available), high property taxes, income taxes, vehicle and windshield repairs (a growth industry in Sask) and of course the sales tax to name a few.

Funny thing, some of the new arrivals are already heading back west, utopia, and central planning, as history has proven, are lofty goals, but seldom achievable.

Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, it's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. Winston Churchill

A very intersting blog! I think that these folks have it right. The old song "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" (Reds) has to be in the minds of the NDP.
The very revered Kevin Yates (socialist cabinet minister) told a pal of mine yesterday, that they would lose the Sutherland Riding. What does that tell you about the socialist's caucus?
The unions and these reds have destroyed this province; and don't think for a minute that those have come home have any intention of supporting you and your dying little red machine.

We are moving away from the union reps (Higgins, Morin et el) to educated leaders. I CAN't WAIT!!
Higgins and Morin supported the payout of $275,000 to Mr. Carrier. Those that he harrassed were stifled. Also supported by these 2 Safeway Clerks (now minister).
Friends, let's give our heads a shake. Get rid of these "hours of works" legislators NOW!!

The biggest problem with socialism is that capitalism achieves the aims of socialism better than socialism does!
