Dalton McIntimacy

Nothing says "forgive me" like a politician baring his soul to a tv camera while the voter watches from the shadows.

The people who have prematurely written off John Tory are the same fine folks who said Stephen Harper would never get elected.

This election is far from over, and if the Liberals go down it will be chiefly due to the "character deficit" of McGuinty and the people around him.

Posted by: Andrew at September 21, 2007 2:16 AM

You know, it would have been a better video if they had Brenda Lee singing I'm Sorry in the background.
Actually it is quite funny. McGuinty has that little boy "mom I had an accident" look on his face

Posted by: Largs at September 21, 2007 2:52 AM

McGuinty better have a look at who's lurking in those shadows: not everybody in Ontario or even Toronto is a high school guidance counselor.

Posted by: GDW at September 21, 2007 3:17 AM

i can't take it anymore. in ontario each party is trying to outspend the other. no one running has a grasp of financial control.no one is honest, a concept long lost in canada. what the hell are we supposed to do. i for one will not hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. evil is still evil even evil lite.

Posted by: old whiteguy at September 21, 2007 6:25 AM

I thought McGuinty failed to look like a premier that Ontarians could be proud of during last night's debate.

He couldn't explain all the glaring lies. He couldn't explain what he's been doing for the past four years. Every time he was asked, he was on the defensive and babbling.

A good night for Tory, who actually looked more like a premier than the premier.

Are Ontarians unhappy enough with McGuinty to make the switch? We'll see.

Posted by: Dennis (Second Thots) at September 21, 2007 6:40 AM

That's all that works for liberals - emotions.

Think of the children.
If it saves one life.
Why can't we just get along?

Nothing about facts, evidence, logic. Just make a Liberal feel sorry for you and they'll open up their wallets and let you steal their car.

CAUTION: COMMENT CONTAINS EXPLETIVES NOT FOR SENSITIVE INDIVIDUALS:

This sickening plea is just the foul brown frosting on a reeking turd cake.

All week I've seen the GTA MSM cover this slime ball's butt....spinning Caledonia, planting BS polls stats and making cover statements about Tory's chances.

I watched what I could of the leader's "debate" before I turned it off in disgust.

Ontario...YOU ARE IN DEEP TROUBLE!

McGuinty epitomizes the slimey greaseball Poli but the alternatives will not solve the core problems either...during the debate all I heard from opposition sock puppets was fee;good sound bites and promises to throw more money in the parasitic turd pit Ontario has become.

There are only 5 issues to address and the candidates danced around all of them:

1) Tax base held hostage by public sector unions
2) Health care starved by redirecting funds to public sector unions and SN extortion rackets
3) Land/Deed/title/property laws and systems held hostage by SN criminal extortionists
4) Crime rates spiked by inner city ethnic drug gangs
5) Private sector jobs( industry/business/agriculture) are fleeing Ontario for friendlier jurisdictions

None of the candidates offered a working solution ( which all have at their finger tips:

PROTECT PUBLIC ASSETS FROM BANDITS AND ENFORCE THE LAW!!

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at September 21, 2007 10:35 AM

Politics here

1) Well, the production values are to convey authenticity. Not unlike the cheap looking tory ads in the fed election.

2) The ad shows they feel vulnerable. The mea culpa is a requirement. People forgive, just a fact.

3) The spin at the end, yes i did it, but a leader makes tough decisions....look for Harper to make a variation on this regarding his one big broken promise, the trust tax (which I support by the way)

Deeper analysis, not sure if the ad really works because you get the I'm sorry, and he really looks nervous and then leaders make tough decisions....there is a dissonance between the tone and look of McGuinty and the statement at the end. I dont know if the ad will fly.

The debate helps Tory, because has that presence. I just dont know if anyone watched it.

Whos base is more motivated the PC one or the Liberal one?

Posted by: Stephen at September 21, 2007 10:45 AM

WMLR:
"PROTECT PUBLIC ASSETS FROM BANDITS AND ENFORCE THE LAW!! Makes sense but how could a Liberal do that without offending their supporters?

Geez, jailed criminals vote, thanks to their policies.

Liz: I suppose the point of my post is that the political and civil culture in Onterrible has degenerated beyond a matter of changing the caretakers of this cesspool.

There has to be a fundamental public catharsis where they reevaluate what accepted the current dystopian civil values has really bought them.

Peronally I think the only party worthy of forming a government there is the freedom party but it would take the total backing of the people to support them as they roll back decades of dystopian legislating and social engineering.

In all reality I think the average voter in Ontario is so dumbed down and numbed towards their leadre's dysfunction and to what proper civil values represent, that it will take a genuine crisis ( social/economic melt down) to wake them up..if at all.

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at September 21, 2007 10:57 AM

He has atrocious body language - note the head shaking "no" while he talks about health care.

Posted by: Kate at September 21, 2007 11:05 AM

Not only did McLiar make the promise, he signed the Taxpayers Protection Promise with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Wave anything under the geek's nose, and he'll sign it, then feel your pain later on.

Posted by: Mississauga Matt at September 21, 2007 11:09 AM

Is it just me, or is the claim that "I got there and discovered that there was no money" a rather lame one?

He was the leader of the opposition, for heaven's sake. He had access to the budget and had access to the cabinet during question period... there's no excuse for not knowing "there was no money." Never mind the concept of cutting spending somewhere else or finding efficiencies to save money, like I have to do every day in my own life.

As a former Ontario resident, I don't buy it for a second. The secret to winning an election in Ontario is to make people think they can safely ignore you once you're in charge. Sorry Dalton, but you're an incompetent leader and would require too much scrutiny from the regular OntariJoe.

And please note that saying that was a really tough decision for me, so please don't think less of me for having made it.

That's all that needs to be said...

Now go back to your deep slumber.

McGuinty had to be the only person running in the last election who did not know about the deficit he would inherit, many were talking about it, well he says he didn't know! So, true to his brand he ignored all that and made the right promises to get elected.

His big one, "I will not raise your taxes", is a huge vote grabber. Much learned from the master Chretien when he said the GST would be gone.

Now, only fools and idiots could vote for someone who lied so blatantly to get elected.
If he gets returned Ontario will slide into have-not territory.

Posted by: Liz J at September 21, 2007 11:34 AM

"If he gets returned Ontario will slide into have-not territory"

If the "have not" refers to 'brains' then it's been mission accomplished for quite some time now.

Posted by: Grind a Grit at September 21, 2007 11:49 AM

Kate: Note the head shaking no

Kate did you notice that he was also talking with his head down quite a bit, He was either consulting his crib notes alot or just ashamed & reaching for an answer. He also made a point of facing his opponent then turning towards the camera when he was hitting his high note during a rebuttle in which i would think it was a very well rehearsed answer, he actually did that a couple of times yet the camera angle was not there it was a side angle.
Then another thing during the scrums it was as he was high fiving everybody(hi how ya doing, hey your next, how's the wife Etc...)
Hampton also made a very good comment when asked (reporter) if he thought Tory was scary, lets just put an end to that nonsense right now John tory is a real nice guy(something like that)

Posted by: bryanr at September 21, 2007 12:07 PM

I live in BC and can not vote in this election but if I could I would tell you it wouldn't be for McGuinty! Bad body language, that an understatement. He looked so scared, unprofessional, caught red handed in his lies. Ontario, please stop this nonsense!

Posted by: MaryM at September 21, 2007 12:17 PM

Dalton must have been getting flustered from the barrage as he goofed & refered to Mr.Tory as Mr. Conservative (quik to correct his error)

Posted by: bryanr at September 21, 2007 12:18 PM

...Ontario needs a Reform Party movement.

Posted by: tomax7 at September 21, 2007 12:35 PM

If Dalton is up in the polls, I don't understand why his handlers would want such an add. I'm from BC so may not be up to date on goings on back East. Could there be some undercurrent of descent party polls have sniffed out?

As an average Onterio voter that has never voted Liberal I suggest you keep your rednecked comments to yourself. I say this because I gave your sweetheart Harper one chance and he has failed miserably, not just for me , but for a lot of other tory voters. So wind you redneck in

Harper will not get my vote next time, John Tory will this time.

In fact the sooner Canadadians realise it is going to take a melt down all across Canada to reclaim this f**&ed up country the sooner it will once again become the greatest country in the world.

Posted by: Pissedoff at September 21, 2007 12:46 PM

Pissed...so Harper won't get your vote next time. Right, he's been in what about a year and can magically *POOF* change a decade of decay from your Liberal task master's handywork overnight?

Soooooooooo, if not Harper, who'd you vote for then?

Green Party?

*ERG*.

Posted by: tomax7 at September 21, 2007 12:57 PM

If he wins, his acceptance speech ought to begin, "The people of Ontario have given me a mandate to lie, cheat and steal..."

Ontario's Liberal media machine has gone into overdrive positioning McLiar as a victim, beaten up by Tory and Hampton, but 'he's still standing.'

As Hampton pointed out, McGuinty knew about the deficit before promising not to raise taxes. But then, what does a pathological liar do other than create fresh lies to cover up old lies.

Posted by: irwin daisy at September 21, 2007 1:03 PM

Sorry your so sensitive Pissedoff...and obviously oblivious of warnings about "sensitive" commentary....can't say you weren't warned. ;-)

""As an average Onterio voter that has never voted Liberal I suggest you keep your rednecked comments to yourself.""

BTW you spelled "Ontario" wrong But I won't count you as a dumbed down voter I assume you are literate enough to read the PC lawn signs. :-)

Dalton: I had to make a tough call, to build new hospitals, get more doctors, more nurses, get wait times down.
Ok dalton where are the new hospitals? Where are the New Doctors? & where are the New nurses? certainly not where i live, Must be the GTA!!, because everything you do seems to be for the betterment of the GTA.

This canard about there being no money when he took office is one of the oldest tricks in the book. The vast majority of revenue is realized in the 4th quarter of the fiscal year ( Jan thru March). Of course there wasn't any money at the particular time however he failed to account for the additional revenue that would be realized in the 4th quarter.
The fact that the province is sitting with a 2.5 billion surplus and the "health care levy" produced a similar amount is quite telling indeed.

Posted by: rattfuc at September 21, 2007 1:54 PM

So, we are to believe that a politician made a tough call deciding to lie? That's like a hockey player saying he decided he had to skate.

And re: I got there and found there was no there there: amazes me that someone could actually say this sans tonque in cheek: I mean, if you said to someone on the phone, "it's in the mail" you'd have to make a bit of joke about it before re-assuring your listener.

He needs to leave politics "in order to spend more time with [my] family".

Kate: nicely positioned below the 35 year old cancer victim.

so here we are. another election and the people of ontario are just as stupid today as they were four years ago.

Posted by: old white guy at September 21, 2007 2:55 PM

"the people of ontario are just as stupid today as they were four years ago"

Would you like to explain the continuing success of the NDP in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and B.C.? Not always elected, but always popular.
We only elected dippers once, and that was a fluke.

Posted by: leigh moon at September 21, 2007 3:07 PM

There's an article today in the Ottawa Citizen stating that the fertility rate is well below replacement levels. May I suggest that the province of Ontario raise the amount of monthly welfare cheques to fight this dire situation!

The only think Dolton should be "intimate" with is the boot in his ass when he gets kicked to the curb in Oct.

Posted by: Nightmare at September 21, 2007 11:48 PM

He's begging forgiveness, let him beg like the dog that he is....then re-elect him like the zombies in Ontario tend to do. Being a Calgarian born and bred and as much as I thoroughly, completely and wholeheartedly love Ontariario, I just can't help saying "it looks good on ya". sorry but it's time to take a good hard look in the mirror and chant "I am NOT the centre of the universe".

Guess you don't read too well and everyone who disagrees with Harper has to be a Liberal. He may have only been there 18 months, but has managed to reverse almost everything he stood for including throwing money at Quebec just like a Liberal.

Posted by: Pissedoff at September 22, 2007 7:04 AM

McGuinty's Finance Minister, Sorbera, is predicting a Majority, a very silly thing to do.
If that tribe gets back in power the people of Ontario have no problem with being lied to and taken for fools, by Dolton the Candy-man.

It's a dirty old Liberal trick offering all the goodies to get in and then, oops, didn't know we had no money, those sneaky Conservatives.
Sorry, everyone else knew around Queens Park there was a deficit and we're supposed to believe Dolty McLiar, running for top post was in the dark?
Bull chips!
