Mr Bloke: A liver donor's card.
First Man: Need we say more?
Second Man: No!
Mr Bloke: Look, I can't give it to you now. It says 'In The Event of Death'...
First Man: No-one who has ever had their liver taken out by us has survived...

Damn those organ donor doctors are quick with a knife! :-)
I've seen Liberal policy makers surgically remove a wallet a tad faster than this though.
Posted by: WL Mackenzie at September 13, 2007 12:24 PMThese Organ Procurement Organizations are obviously not big picture thinkers. If the public at large begins to fear that they will not receive proper care so that their organs can be yanked, then there goes most of the organ supply. People in need of transplants will die and these OPO dudes will be out of work. Or maybe they’ll have to take up their trade in China.
Posted by: Cal at September 13, 2007 12:47 PMI have always refused to sign a donor card ever since they were invented. Back then some people at least had some ethics, but not now.
Posted by: Pissedoff at September 13, 2007 12:52 PMIf you put a price/profit on your demise you can be assured some ethically challenged enterpriser will hasten this ;-)
Posted by: WL Mackenzie at September 13, 2007 12:59 PMSounds soooooo familiar. So that you know - I am from the former Soviet Union.
Posted by: Aaron at September 13, 2007 1:16 PMI recently had an opportunity to spend a few days in a rural Manitoba hopsital. The screams comming from down the hall in the organ donor room made it a bit difficult to get a good night sleep. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.
Posted by: Woodporter at September 13, 2007 2:03 PMOrgan donations save lives. Whatever the ethical breaches by some - which should absolutely and fully be pursued and prosecuted, if appropriate (is this company a for profit company? are their workers given per organ incentives? is the doctor given incentives above or under the table? or was there someone about to die without the organ? lots of unanswered questions here - we can't forget that donating your body parts after your soul has departed (if you believe in souls) will save LIFE.
Posted by: Ted at September 13, 2007 3:25 PMWas this liver story covered by the Onion?
Posted by: ebt at September 13, 2007 4:13 PMI seem to recall some news story over the last little while regarding an Ontario Liberal policy proposal on organ donation. The proposal was that you had to sign a not-a-donor card, otherwise any usable tissue would be collected automatically with your death. Doctors of my acquaintance said they would start withholding death certificates until rigor mortis had passed. Just to be sure, y'know.
Never heard if anything came of it.
In other news, Dalton the Sly still pushing gun control and the OPP still protecting Mohawk Extortion and Smuggling Society from the people whose land they are stealing.
Don't forget kids, property is theft! Even if its your liver.
Posted by: The Phantom at September 13, 2007 5:12 PMHey Ted ...at least they're asking for them so far...with Liberal corporatism going the direction it's headed there will come a day when they don't ask first.
Posted by: WL Mackenzie at September 13, 2007 6:58 PMI'm sure we can offset it with carbon credits
