Alan that is quite the silly article. Let me see if I've got this straight, the Tories spend $7 of refreshments for a meeting, and that is, sigh, proof of their hidden agenda (who actually paid for the refreshments eh?).

Quite unsurprising for two reasons. The article was written for Edmonton, that small small bastion of Liberals; second, a Liberal cannot fathom the notion of not harpooning taxpayers for their expenses, what with their culture of entitlement.

Re: media bias. CTV did their interview with their media pundits, and I thought, here we go again. They started off with puffins, spending about 3-4 minutes on this nonsense. Then it was Harper giving "not-terrific" speeches.

Then to my surprise, one of the journalists said this bit about Harper being control freak is what Liberals want people to think, not necessarily the truth. Then Dion was given a backhand swipe for not connecting with the voter over the summer like Harper did before.

Overall, the Liberals were savaged by this group, with not a rightie among them. If this is what Dion is in store for in election campaign (a reasonable assumption) he should rethink his plan to challenge govt on Throne speech re: Rodriguez joke Kyoto bill and Afghanistan. McKay reiterated today Canada not planning to renew troops in Afghan past 09. (BTW,panel s**t on Dion over that one, saying he was playing pure politics and was a hypocrite to boot, given Liberals started the mission). And Kyoto - if they think voters outside of Toronto and Vancouver are going to swallow that tripe, they are in for a very rude awakening. Then again, does Dion really venture out of the cities anyway, so he would have no way of knowing voter senitment on this issue.

Doesn't matter, Liberals are either bluffing about election or are complete idiots if they think Dion will get them their power back.

The Year the Global Warming Hoax Died
By Alan Caruba (09/02/07)

When did the global warming hoax die? Historians are likely to pinpoint 2007. It will take another decade to insure it cannot be revived, but the avalanche of scientific studies and the cumulative impact of scientists who have publicly joined those who debunked the lies on which it has been based will be noted as the tipping point.

It took some forty years to unmask the Piltdown Man hoax that began in 1912 alleging that the skull of an ancient ancestor of man had been found in England. Any number of British anthropologists unwittingly contributed to the hoax by confirming the authenticity of the skull until it was found that the jaw of an orangutan had been cunningly attached. The unmasking of “global warming” has taken less than half that time.

The hoax has mainly been a creation of the United Nations Environmental Program and took off in earnest with the 1992 Earth Summit. It culminated in 1997 with the Kyoto Climate Control Protocol, ...-

The say the usual --- PM Harper has a secret agenda.

But ... if his agenda is secret, why/how does the MSM/CP know? Geiger counters? Fried puffin eggs?

They also say PM Harper is literally spiriting radioactive materials out of the country. In his hidden pockets? In brown paper bags/envelopes? In his briefcase? His watch dial?

The MSM/CP oughta inform the RCMP/CSIS/Customs/the IAEA. Craig Oliver/CTV/Giggles should know more.

Which materials? Strontium 85? Polonium 210? Tritium? Uranium 234-235? Etc.

The MSM/CP are mentally sick left-liberals. Sickos.

Oh my God, Alby, what a scandal, Tories not spending taxpayers dollars:

"It may look like a case of Conservatives being better with taxpayers' dollars, but Liberal strategist Susan Smith wonders who's buying the Conservatives lunch and dinner if they're not claiming it themselves."A very valid question indeed. Judging by the massive girth Harper has acquired it's obvious somebody is picking up his tab."

Da proof is da proof right? Oh, here's the smoking gun:

"We may not be paying for his entertainment expenses directly through our tax dollars, but I'm sure through his business connections we will be paying for it in other ways."

More brilliant analysis from alby and the Libs. Since you're sure about the "business connections" who are paying for Harper's girth growth, now is the time to name names.

Force an election immediately. Imagine, not gorging at the taxpayer trough, getting every piece of gum paid for by the great unwashed. To the Liberal mind this is imaginable, not submitting every receipt possible. We must bring the Liberals back immediately and end this prudent spending. NOW. IMMEDIATELY!!

With regard to the 'secret nuclear agenda', Newswatch's Canada Press has already changed their title from 'Secret' to 'contentious' and now - 'unclear'.

Heh. As has been pointed out, if it's 'secret', then how come the rabid gossip mongers, aka the MSM know about it?
Now - contentious? Says who?
And 'unclear'? Says who?

The CP - a rabid anti-Harper MSM source - is desperately trying to come up with vilifying behaviour on Harper's part.
The fact that he MUST - as an exporter of uranium, discuss these issues with other exporters and importers - seems to have escaped the CP and MSM.

The fact that decision-making on these issues is not, cannot be and should not be- left up to the multitude - who may be expert in philosophy, biology, car mechanics and the best chef in the world - but are NOT experts in uranium technology - seems to have escaped the MSM. The MSM are demanding that the decision ought to be the prerogative of 'the people'. Since when are expert decisions up to the non-experts? Since when is knowledge so denigrated in our country that we prefer our decisions to be made by pure speculation and mob appeal???

albatros39- illogical and stupid opinions as usual. Because Harper has put on weight does NOT mean that we, the taxpayer, are funding that weight gain. Get a lifle, albatross. Better yet, take a first year course in logic and critical thinking.

ah, heck, albatros - what do facts matter to you? Obviously, facts, to the albatross, are irrelevant.

gee - to albatross, the theft of multimillions from the taxpayers - to use for funding Liberal politics in Quebec...pish and posh. Albatross considers that small potatoes - a once-only event. And something that happens only once, like 9/11 is, to albatross - peanuts and irrelevant. Remember, facts don't matter to albatross.

Oh - and the theft of even more millions from the taxpayer, via the Liberal strategy of appointing all their cronies to unelected patronage positions in the Senate, the judiciary, as deputy ministers, and etc etc...that's theft too, albatross. But of course - to you - facts don't matter.

And the theft of more millions - in benefits and 'meetings in the Caribbean' and 'meetings in high class restaurants'..and taking one's chauffeur to Paris where one lives...That's theft too albatross.

And the theft of more millions, used to fling as bribes to ethnic and special interest groups. In return for their votes. Theft. Theft. Theft.

Now - to fiction. Albatross informs us of 'the theft of an entire nation ripped out of the feet [of/sic] it's [sic=its] rightful owners by their own government to be given away to their masters to the south".

Oh - wow and may the saints and other angels preserve us from the storyteller who tripped over the barrel and fell in head first.
Now, albatross - would you kindly explain how the 'entire nation' (presumably Canada?) has been 'ripped out from under the feet (HOW? WHEN? WHERE?)...and how it's been 'given' to 'their masters to the south' (presumably the USA).

Please, albatross. Some facts rather than dregged and drugged fiction.

Oh- did you know, albatross - that 85% of our exports go to only one country? The USA?
Did you know that 90% of Canadians live about 190 km from the US border?
Did you know that until Harper - we have off loaded our defense, our research and development, our economic entrepreneurship, our international obligations - entirely. I repeat entirely - onto the shoulders of the USA? Did you know that?

Now - how about the facts. Or do you prefer yarns in the corner pub to facts?

Posted by: ET at September 3, 2007 6:35 PM

Alby is more illogical and ridiculous than usual. He must be settling into the reality that the corrupt Liberals with their inept leader are the walking dead of Canadian politics. Alby is reduced to anti-American dribble, which is par for the course at moonbatville.

That's where the Libs are right now, fighting it out with the other moonbat parties for the votes of the extreme fringe left. Maybe we can look forward to a moonbat coalition attempt after the next election, if Tories don't get majority.

I'll be sure to remind the voters that Liberals represent tired Anti-Bush cliches, announcing plans to our enemies while calling our soldiers war criminals, and, of course, my special favourite. 50 cents a litre moonbat Kyoto taxes. What's a moonbat to do?

An interesting prediction. Based on the Bloc figure being at 11%, this would require a significant vote increase in Ontario, particularly the GTA, something that is quite unlikely.

For Harper to appeal to Ontario voters, he would have to move to the left on many issues that would cause a revolt in his western base, namely, the environment and health-care.

The one issue where Harper could score points in urban areas, would be on crime. This is one area where the NDP, Liberals and Greens are all seen as weaker than the Tories. Although crime is actually lower in Toronto, than Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Vancouver, the fear of crime is very high (disproportionately high, I would say). If Harper can present himself as law-and-order candidate, without sounding overly authoritarian (think Mike Harris), then he will make significant inroads in the GTA.

If not, I suspect another minority Conservative government. Worse yet, if Dion actually campaigns in an intelligent way, it could be a liberal minority, or majority. Remember, a few NDP voters shifting back to the Liberals, and Trudeaupia is back to it's rightful owners.

Like the beer and popcorn bribe for votes? Theft theft theft.

"Oh - and the theft of even more millions from the taxpayer, via the Liberal strategy of appointing all their cronies to unelected patronage positions in the Senate, the judiciary, as deputy ministers, and etc etc...that's theft too, albatross. But of course - to you - facts don't matter."

What you call unelected cronies, I call watchdogs keeping Harper in control. Never forget it was Harper who said Canadians shouldn't be afraid to vote for him because the Liberal Senate and the courts would keep him in line. Of course he has done everything in his power, unsuccessfully to remove those watchdogs keeping him in line. I still don't know how you think appointing senators according to the rules is theft.

"Now, albatross - would you kindly explain how the 'entire nation' (presumably Canada?) has been 'ripped out from under the feet (HOW? WHEN? WHERE?)...and how it's been 'given' to 'their masters to the south' (presumably the USA)."

Well it all started literally within hours of the con government taking power. The oldest Canadian company and national icon The Hudson’s Bay Company was allowed to be sold off without a single bat of a con eye. The Hudson's Bay Company was more than just another company, it was a national icon and part of formation of this nation. This sale is poster child of Canadian company sell offs. Since then company after company has been allowed to change hands into foreign ownership but the cons still don't bat an eye. The latest was the last Canadian steel maker STELCO and still Harper ignores it.
We are leaving our own workers under the control of foreign companies and during the next recession they will be the ones to pay.
It's not only companies handed over it's recourses a well. Oil, softwood lumber and next will be water. http://canadiandimension.com/articles/2006/09/07/646/

Please, albatross. Some facts rather than dregged and drugged fiction.

"Oh- did you know, albatross - that 85% of our exports go to only one country? The USA?"

Why yes I did, and its time to find other markets. As you probably already know there are now 1000 GM workers laid off last week as the Oshawa truck plants shut down one shift. This is the negative side of trickle down economics because those 1000 jobs are about the result in many more as parts suppliers will also be forced to cut their work force. This layoff was a result of being too closely tied to the US as our primary trading partner. They made a mistake giving credit people credit that was too easy to get and our workers pay the price. It's time to increase trade to Europe and Asia other than China. It's time to investigate membership in the E.U., I'm sure Newfoundland's new oil would be welcomed there for a good Euro.

"Did you know that 90% of Canadians live about 190 km from the US border?"

Well the southern part of Canada sure beats living in Tuktoyaktuk.

"Did you know that until Harper - we have off loaded our defense, our research and development, our economic entrepreneurship, our international obligations - entirely. I repeat entirely - onto the shoulders of the USA? Did you know that?"

Our defence? Our defence from what? Did you know that due to dwindling resources the biggest threat to Canadian sovereignty is the US? That the US has been the only nation to violate Canada sovereign waters in the Arctic? So if we were depending on them for our defence, they should be defending us from themselves.
Did you know that since 9/11 there have been at least three occasion when Canadian military aircraft (two occasions with armed F-18 fighters) were flying over major US cities in defence of those cities at the request of the US government? Apparently the Iraq war left them a bit short on occasion of fighter aircraft. Did you know that the US has requested Canadian military help multiple times (Iraq 1&2, Balkens Afghanistan, Vietnam etc., yes Vietnam) yet Canada has never asked the US to support any Canadian overseas missions other than to rent us transport in order for us to help a third party nation? It seem it's not Canada that need the help of the US in defence, it's the US that needs Canada's aid.

"For Harper to appeal to Ontario voters, he would have to move to the left on many issues that would cause a revolt in his western base, namely, the environment and health-care."

Wrong. Harper is already on the left in terms of health care and the environment - nobody cares about these issues in reality.

Harper needs to set the agenda and not fight the next election on the opposition's issues. Income tax cuts, income splitting, mortgage interest deductibility, GST abolition, cutting EI, CPP premiums or other payroll taxes to boost employment in Ontario. Heck, even a proposed labour mobility agreement w/ the US might do it.

We only need about 40-45% in Ontario to carry about 60% of the seats. That means capturing fiscally conservative voters who may be socially liberal as the 'true' conservative base is only about 30-35%.

Harper needs to keep building up a record as a tax-cutter and freeze program spending. The next election may not come until 2009 so he should keep moving on economic issues.

Posted by: Ace at September 3, 2007 11:41 PM

The Self-Loathing Multiculturalist...

The prediction is based mainly on the observation that Harper's political successes seem to come in increments.

Is it possible the Conservatives pick up a couple points in Quebec, at the expense of the Liberals? Throw in another 3% split amongst Ontario, B.C. and the Maritimes, and it adds up to 41%, assuming they hold their votes from 2006.

Maybe Canadians are beginning to understand that Harper isn't evil. Harper IS politically savvy, sure seems so. Harper went to school on Joe Clark's minority... I believe he's learned what he needs to know.

Not that Harper and Clark equate to one another, God no! Joe Clark, the Chretien Liberals... sorry, I cannot tell the difference between them, despite Clark being an Albertan. But Harper is smart enough to preserve his government, buying time, until things turn in his favour; he won't let himself get stiffed by running as though he already has a majority.

Now, if voters who leaned towards the Harper Conservatives in January '06 because of "ideological reasons" could just comprehend what Stephen Harper seems to understand...

Alby is a crackpot moron. Let him spout his ridiculous statements and ignore him. He won't be happy until all the means of production are controlled by the government, and seems to think our NORAD responsibilities constitutes the U.S. needing our aid.

He's a bozo, folks. An idealogue who refers to his former colleagues in the military as "brainwashed" and never wastes a chance to slam our closest allies.

A real piece of work.

"Alby is on borrowed time, having been banned a few weeks ago."

Oh right, now what was that for anyway? Was it saying that Carol Skelton was an uneducated puppet of Flaherty and Harper or was it because I defended myself in kind (though I noticed that they didn't get banned) against the slander of a couple of your followers? Or maybe you ban me because we don't agree on pretty much any issue and you know that I'm right on many accounts, which is something your ego can't handle.
You don't like the fact that I speak out against what is wrong with the military. Judging buy what other people write here you and they don't understand why a veteran would do that. The military has its problems, just like any organization and they stem primarily from leadership. It seems the public for some reason has this opinion that those in the military are somehow supposed to be supermen. Sorry they are just human with human faults and open to criticism.
I'm sure if we looked hard enough Kate we would find some common ground, but frankly I'm not willing to try. I prefer to simply disagree with you because it's my opinion that you and those like you are bad for this country. You are too divisive and you spread hatred and half-truths.
What I've stated above is opinion. My opinion and judging by the number of posts you have deleted simply based on opinion, you can’t handle freedom of thought and freedom of expression. Isn’t that what these forums are intended for, to spread idea and stimulate the exchange of ideas? Well apparently here ideas are tolerated only if you follow party lines. You can ban me any time you wish, and frankly I don't care.

BTW, I take screenshots of all my posts, because you never know when they will come in handy in other blogs talking about SDA.

As to your above, yup the military is in shit, but it sure isn't from the common grunt on the ground. It's from the gutless generals and politicians who have gutted it. Hatred? Try rabble or the kosby kids. Hell.Half the comments posted here would be gone from those sites so fast, you wouldn't even know they existed.

Ice blocks British solo sailor

From correspondents in Moscow

A BRITISH yachtsman attempting the first solo Arctic sea passage across northern Russia was examining his options after heavier than expected ice blocked his route, his manager said.

Adrian Flanagan is discussing with Russian authorities the possibility of using a nuclear-powered icebreaker to lift his boat out of the water and carry it round the most icebound stretch of Russia's Northern Sea Route.

“Basically it just means we're putting plan B into operation so if the worst comes to the worst and there isn't a break in the weather, we've got a plan,” Louise Flanagan, his manager and ex-wife said from Britain. [...]
He had hoped that his 11m reinforced yacht would be able to get all the way to Europe due to lighter ice conditions observed in recent years, thought to be a result of global warming. ...-

British Yachtsman who Counted on Global Warming to Cross Arctic Now Trapped by Ice

[...]

Besides the arctic ice, Wrong Way Flanagan now appears to have another problem. Remember those polar bears that Global Warming activists were warning us were endangered? Well, it now seems that the tables have been turned and those endangered polar bears are now endangering Flanagan:

Ostrov Peschanyy is a bleak, featureless island that is little more than a sand spit rising a few metres above sea level. It's a resting place for walrus and Western Arctic Marine Operations HQ have advised Adrian to keep a careful watch for polar bears hunting walrus there.

So as Wrong Way Flanagan, who has turned himself into a Global Laughingstock on the altar of Global Warming, remains trapped in the arctic perhaps someone would be kind enough send him a copy of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth for him to pass the time while waiting for the ice to melt and for the endangered polar bears to go away. ...-

Charles Adler:

Murder, Rape and Blackmail purchase respectabilty at the Toronto Star

Taliban Jack, they called him, hundreds of news cycles ago. Jack Layton would hold forth on the idea of the Canadian government and others participating in negotiations with the Taliban.

I naively thought that Jack was pandering to his pacifist party base, and that the idea of sitting down at the table with the human rights loathing, women-hating, head-chopping Taliban was something that would amount to nothing more than the usual flotsam and jestsam of political debate. But this apparently was not to be.

The Toronto Star's Thomas Walkom, whose columns "inform" the values of mainstream Liberals, has now decided that the recent set of negotiations between the Taliban and the South Koreans should persuade us that the road to peace in Afghanistan may be paved with some Taliban diplomacy. Walkom thinks that South Korea's deal to gain the release of 19 South Korean Christian missionaries from the Taliban is one that should persuade us that we have a peace partner in Afghanistan.

Walkom writes, "It puts the lie to those, including the current Canadian government, who say it is impossible or counterproductive to strike a deal with the Islamist insurgents. Clearly South Korea found the talks quite productive."

So let me get this straight, Mr. Walkom: After the Taliban captured 21 missionaries, raped several of them, killed two of them and took a ransom payment of $20-million for the rest of them, you are telling us that we ought to think of the Taliban as legitimate partner in Afghan peacemaking. Thanks for the heads up Mr. Walkom. Now when Liberal mouth breathers start regurgitating this wickedly foul gumbo, we won't be shocked. The head choppers in Afghanistan are assured of victory if enough of us over here begin losing our heads.

Taliban Jack is no doubt a happy camper. His foolishness has received respectability from the Liberal newspaper of choice. And to think that all it took to meet the Toronto Star's price for respectability were a few dollops of kidnapping, rape, murder and blackmail. To be fair, we should remind ourselves that the victims were all Korean. The Toronto Star wouldn't be burnishing the Taliban image if there had been Canadian blood in this Faustian bargain. Or would that also get filed as a naive assumption? ...-
