Lorne Calvert's Party of 5th Graders

I've met Brad Wall and listened to him speak, and detected no trace of any speech impediment.

Apparently, the Saskatchewan NDP think differently.

ndp_photofile.jpg

Apparently, they think that it's appropriate to reference an established physical disability to ridicule a political opponent on their official party website.

Quite the little inside joke, that.

Or at least, it used to be.

Update: 5:50pm In an uncharacteristic mea culpa, the NDP has changed the photo and acknowledged their shame. The file name on the new one is "380_ashamedbradnews.jpg"

SDA gets results!

This is absolutlely disgusting and another example of a morally bankrupt NDP party.

I believe that the people in charge of this are in need of some basic sensitivity training, starting with this organization.

The Canadian Stuttering Organization http://www.stutter.ca/

The insult to those with this disability is truly horrifying. The tag of Mr. Wall's picture is meant to demean him but at the same time demeans anyone who has long suffered with this condition.

Will these people continue to stoop to the lowest level?

Mr. Calvert, as a former United Church minister, have you lost your entire sense of decency? For shame.

Please Saskatchewan, vote this NDP government out as soon as you can!

Posted by: Peter S at August 29, 2007 5:21 PM

Where on the NDP site is there any reference to Wall's alleged speech impediment? I couldn't find it. All I found was this folksy looking chap, in an open collared shirt, rambling on a bout the future of the best place to live and raise your family in Canada. (Apparently he means Saskatchewan)

Making fun of a political opponent's speech or other physical impediment is a tried and true Canadian tradition. Remember Kim Campbell's okay on the ads that made fun of Jean Chretien's twisted mouth, and how well it worked for the Conservatives?

Umm,from 175 seats, to 2, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for making young, progressive, successful people proud of their gov't and their smear campaign. My demo is exactly who the NDP will lose in this campaign. Good luck with rallying seniors and union members. The rest of the province is tired of these bush league tactics.

(Actually not a bad photo of old 'Lambchop' Wall by the way!!)

leftdog,

How DARE you think this is nothing to be outraged about.

I've seen your posts here before. You are an apologist for a morally bankrupt party. In your eyes, they can do no wrong. People like you are what's wrong with Saskatchewan!

I have seen the direct effects of, the bias, the bullying of a person close to me that stutters. To debase my experiences and those of those who have suffered is arrogant to the nth degree.

To try to tag Mr. Wall with the term "stutter" is not tagging someone with a term of endearment. It is an insult and an affront to those and their families that have suffered from a condition that they didn't ask for.

One the other hand, you chose your foolish words and your foolish political allegiances.

You deserve to be publically humiliated and redressed for moral ignorance and your arrogance. It's not like your beloved NDP would not attack the SK Party if they were to find something similar.

leftdog, you are a fool of the highest order.

Waiting for the kind of outrage that followed the JC ads back in '93... any day now. (How long has that been up there, and how long is it going to take the media to notice?)

Wingnut hypocrites and your faux outrage.

Kate,

While I don’t claim to know Brad Wall I would point out that he may be a stutterer and you might never know it.

There are many of us born in the 60s, 70s and early 80s (when school districts still had full time speech therapists on staff) who were lucky enough to have had intensive speech therapy at an early age. Hearing me speak you would never know that I was and remain a stutterer. You might wonder about the occasional odd pause or unusual slowness if enough sses and cees are spaced too closely together but as long as I am sober and not over-tired it is possible that you wouldn’t know me for a stutterer.

Close friends eventually figure it out and given the workload on a typical MLA I'm betting his opponents have heard him lose it once or twice if he is indeed a stutterer which might explain the cruel insult.

Posted by: MeinBC at August 29, 2007 6:49 PM

Well put Peter S, although I doubt if it will sink into leftdog's head.

Funny thing that you should mention Red Tory. There's a long comments thread there about the Asian Pacific post, and not a single one of the raving, foul-mouthed moonbats has noticed that the question posed in my subject line - "Why are all the Canadian soldiers being killed in Afghanistan white?" - is a direct quote from the editorial.

They apparently haven't read past the first three sentences.

I've remarked on the legendary reading comprehension levels of the left before...

But from a blogger who has allowed overt threats of sexual assault towards me to remain standing in his comments section, I can't say I'm surprised.

The Dippers don't like Brad Wall talking, but it's what he says and how he says it that scares them the most.
If you get a chance to hear him speak, don't miss it, he's very entertaining and charming and sticks it to the NDP in hilarious and very true ways.
One example was when Calvert used a canoe race where the leaders stopped and waited for everyone else to catch up as a fine example of how to live.
Brad's take on it was that Calvert was trying to inspire everyone with a canoe race in which everyone finished last.
Then he took it a step farther; he wondered what Lorne's sermons must have been like back when he was a preacher.
Perhaps he would tell everyone on the right side of the church that they had been good and prayed lots and were honest and generous, but those on the left side were drinking and sinning and swearing and generally being bad.
Brad suggested that Lorne's solution would be for all those on the right side of the church to start drinking and gambling and lying and stealing like the others so they could all go to hell together!
It wasn't a bad metaphor for what is wrong with Saskatchewan.
Once again, if you get a chance to hear him speak, it's well worth it.

Obviously the NDP see the error (or rather the outrage) of their ways.

Too bad some of their supporters don't.

What will you find next? I'm sure there are plenty more bodies in the Internet graveyard with NDP fingerprints all over them.

Keep up the good work...

Posted by: Farmer Ben at August 29, 2007 8:21 PM

Far be it from me to disagree (yeah, right) but looking at the "new" picture and file name, I do believe they are infering that Mr. Wall is acting like he is ashamed not the Dippers. Apparently getting an apology or acknowledgement of wrong doing is as foreign to the NDP as it is to it's sheeple.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at August 29, 2007 8:30 PM

Oh, how I recall the mis-step taken by the Progressive Conservatives in the 1993 election, making fun of "the driver of the getaway car's" frozen face.

These things backfire. Perhaps it will receive the airplay it has earned.

dmorris asked, and I'll go one further.

Who knew that it was possible for John Tory (Ms. Campbell's campaign manager) to be simultaneously working to be an Ontario PC Premier and the Campaign Manager for the Saskatchewan NDP? That's durability!

Posted by: Trev at August 29, 2007 8:44 PM

About what I would expect from a tired old party that sees the public as sheep.. I would take that beautifull wolf, protecting the flock from the mange ridden coyotes and make it the spokesman for a campaign against this gov'ts record, asking the public if they feel like sheep.

Has Mr. Wall's physical disablity been publicly established? If not, then it's just a shot at someone stammering over something....

Posted by: justcurious at August 29, 2007 10:59 PM

I grew up with a stutter and I can assure you that it was not always a pleasant experience. It was wrong for the Tories to make fun of JC's speech impediement then and it is wrong for SK's NDP party to make fun of Wall's here.

I don't think I have found a politican out there that hasn't provided a moment that someone from another party could easily point to that would be embarressing and would also be appropriate, Harper in his cowboy getup a few years ago and Dion skipping around just recently for examples.

Have to check SDA more often, I missed the ndp video.
One thing that marks virtually all left wingers is their ability to shut off and stop listening to anything they disagree with. One way to get to be a certified wacko, is to only talk and associate with people that think and act exactly like yourself. Variety is the spice of life, listening to varied opinions keeps you centered.

Making Life Better? That bragging by the NDP is seriously in doubt when it comes to work-disabled persons who on average are forced to live on less than $7000 per year by the NDP.

Lorne Calvert and the NDP have accomplished nothing worth mentioning for people with disabilities in Saskatchewan. Today more then ever persons with disabilities in Saskatchewan are living in abject poverty owing to severe mismanagement of Saskatchewan's economy by the NDP. This is well in keeping with the NDP's strategy of crafting carefully worded statement to give the appearance of making a change for the better while in fact doing nothing at all or very little.

An excellent example of the empty gestures that are the hallmark of the NDP, is the ridiculously empty symbolic Seniors Drug Plan. While it is true that some seniors paid large bills for prescriptions, those people are already largely covered by other government programs. Overall, on average, seniors pay about 30 per month "retail" cost for prescription pharmaceuticals. The actual medicare cost is significantly less - less, in fact, than the 15 per month that NDP are claiming is their gift to seniors.

So have the NDP really done anything for Seniors... the answer clearly is "No." All they've done is what political scientists call engage in Tokenism. If you look at the NDP's policies carefully, you will easily notice that they all of their policies fall neatly into this category of symbolic effort - Tokenism.

In keeping with the excellent catch that Small Dead Animals made on the NDP's shameful mocking of people with disabilities, we at the Saskatchewan Democratic Action Party would like to agree whole-heartedly that it is abhorrent and amoral of the NDP (who claim to stand for social justice) to abuse the dignity of persons with disabilities in order to cling to their cozy government leather chairs and free (taxpayer funded in reality) Catered sodas and bite-sized pre-chewed canapés. Our thanks to Small Dead Animals for bringing this abuse of Persons with Disabilities by the NDP to light.

As for Red Tory, what do you expect from a self-admitted criminal and ex-Nazi sympathizer? Of course Red says the Nazi stuff is just youthful indiscretion(I guess he sees himself in the vein of Pierre "Wasser" Trudeau), and he only stole a small amount of money and it was a white-collar crime. Ridiculous stretch....and I've seen you do this several times before.

It is great that the NDP are committing political suicide and maybe the next election they will finally get out of power. But none of the other parties want to offer more than the status quo with a minor change here or there to reflect which side of center they are on. Can't anybody in politics see that without major changes this province is going to be left behind.
