What an odd country Britain has become

This story is creepy on so many levels:

Two young women who were dragged before a court for allegedly flashing their breasts at a CCTV camera have had the case against them dropped, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.

Abbi-Louise Maple and Rachel Marchant, both 21, were accused of exposing their chests on Worthing seafront, West Sussex, on July 16.

A CCTV operator summoned police and the pair were charged with outraging public decency.

I thought Gwen Jacobs of Guelph Ontario had that issue settled years ago.

Aah, Only in Canada, you say!

Why do most women look as if their faces caught fire, and someone put them out with a shovel?

And did they REALLY need to include that photo in the article?? I just had breakfast!

Posted by: Alex at August 26, 2007 11:44 AM

Most BRITISH women, is what I meant to say.

Posted by: Alex at August 26, 2007 11:48 AM

One 15 year old was fined 100 pounds for throwing a snowball at a car, a young woman was fined for eating an apple while driving!

This speaks of a justice system that has too much time on it's hands, I assume because there are no more serious crimes being committed in Britain. The operator who turned the girls in should be given a reprimand, and sent to a "Common Sense" training course. They DO have those don't they? Sigh.

Posted by: dmorris at August 26, 2007 11:52 AM

They persecute silly things because they are terrified to deal with real crime. The last thing they want to do is appear “racist” or to “offend” Islam – terrorism works.

Posted by: terrence at August 26, 2007 12:40 PM

as noted in the article, there are no laws specifically prohibiting nudity, but the police charged them with "outraging public decency", so maybe Alex is correct here, they simply looked too much like a young CAMILLA, and that in itself ought to be a crime.

It's probably a good thing I don't live in Britain because you don't want to know what I would be systemically doing to the 14 odd million CCTV cameras big mother has staring at you 24/7.

Hint: it involves wood chippers.

The one in the red is not too bad - looks like she might have a decent set of sweater puppies under there.

Accused in Sexual Assault incident already on Sex Offender Registry
Gord McDougall
Saturday, August 25, 2007

Back in March, the accused was sentenced to seven months in jail for sexual assault and was put on the sex offender registry for 20 years

Posted by: Pissedoff at August 26, 2007 2:50 PM

This kind of stuff isn't exactly isolated. Crazy prosecutions we hear of all the time. Many related to political correctness/some folks being "offended", etc.

Guess the CCTV operator doesn't like boobs.

Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at August 26, 2007 2:55 PM

About that 12 year old boy - was it a PORK sausage?

Posted by: kakola at August 26, 2007 3:16 PM

So flashing your breasts or throwing sausages at neighbors will get you hauled into court? Must be a common denominator here somewhere....

Posted by: GDW at August 26, 2007 3:20 PM

I suppose that after bring civilization, rule of law, enhanced democracy and common sense to the Western World, Britain had nothing left to do but go completely insane.

Apparently, that is precisely what they have done.

Posted by: John West at August 26, 2007 3:28 PM

With some of the most vicious hate spewing mosques in all of Europe, the biggest menace to public safety, and a violent crime rate that has doubled in the past decade, this is the stupid stuff that Blair's Nanny State cops enforce.

Pathetic.

The Brits are in the same league with the Dutch, Belgiums, and French, it's not an issue of dhimmitude or not, it's an issue of when.

Posted by: penny at August 26, 2007 3:38 PM

:Outrage public decency" huh, certain members of the royal family do that on a fairly regular basis and no one charges them.

Posted by: a different bob at August 26, 2007 3:48 PM

Hopefully, the girls were not traumatized by the experience.....hmm, there's an idea, does Canada have a social counselling program for traumatized young ladies who have been obviously victimized by the police for boob exposure?

Posted by: el gordo at August 26, 2007 3:58 PM

"So flashing your breasts or throwing sausages at neighbors will get you hauled into court? Must be a common denominator here somewhere"

Yeah, and that is that big brother has no sense of humor.

The next phase is Britain build massive gulags to contain all these scoff-laws it catches in its total surveillance web.

Beyond me why Brits put up with this micro manged society shite.

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at August 26, 2007 4:37 PM

I am a bit surprised at the juvenile comments from some here. As if those young ladies would actually be interested in these knobs.

As to big brother getting their shorts in a knot, I figure it is as much a power trip for the cctv operator as anything. Kind of like mall security guards telling everyone they are in law enforcement.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at August 26, 2007 8:30 PM

Puny men given a tiny bit of power, using it. And puny women apparently, no way that CCTV operator was a guy.

Makes me think of that battle ax they had in Iran arresting all the cuties on the street for Improper Islamic Attire.

Concentration camp guards, the lot of them.

Time to start breaking cameras yet?

Posted by: The Phantom at August 26, 2007 9:13 PM

surely cbcpravda can get a lactating mother story out of this one.

so here is a question , can you breastfeed on the street in a burkha?

Posted by: cal2 at August 26, 2007 9:46 PM

If stuff keeps getting shoved down the Brits throats...don't blame me when those cams become expensive wall and street decorations.

...just sayin'

Posted by: Nightmare at August 26, 2007 10:22 PM

Good question Cal 2 - would that be PC?

Posted by: Jema54 at August 26, 2007 10:23 PM

in regards to the remarks, (sort of negative) of the attractiveness of the two subjects, perhaps we could see a picture of the ones who made the remarks. A few Robert Redford lookalikes possibly?

Posted by: norgib at August 26, 2007 11:36 PM

It's quite possible that everyone involved in this incident is female: the two beach bimbini, the camera operator/observer, the arresting police officers, and the Crown Attorney/Director of Prosecutions. The first and last we know from the Daily Mail story are women; it's highly possible the others are also.

Posted by: CJ at August 27, 2007 4:48 AM

a new slogan for the left.

"cover your face ,bare your breasts".

Posted by: cal at August 27, 2007 7:55 AM

No, Norgib, I can't say I've ever been compared to Robert Redford. The two comparisons I get most often are Edward Norton and Russell Crowe, depending on whether I've shaved my head, or grown a beard. I personally don't see the resemblance to the former.

Posted by: Alex at August 27, 2007 6:31 PM

Where's the feminist outcry? What's legal for a man should be legal for a woman, should not it?

As far as the crude comments above - I disagree, both are cute girls with healthy sense of humour. You are morons.
