Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wall? UPDATED

Lorne Calvert, that's who.

Meet "Lambchop"!

lambchopface.jpg

(click for image of brochure)

He escaped from the NDP campaign war room today. My source emails;

We understand they are putting up billboards like this as well. The billboards were supposed to be a teaser campaign. That is, they were just putting up the picture of the wolf for a couple of weeks with no caption. Then they were going to add some sort of caption about the SaskParty.

... and I thought it was Calvert who just had his teeth filed.

More - from the brochure:

Isn't the "Hidden Agenda" thing getting a bit old? I mean if there is something to hide, I'd say it is in the (Sask)governments closet.

Posted by: huffb1 at August 21, 2007 1:25 PM

That's awesome! This is NDP politicking at it's best...

Rather than having a record to stand on, they put togther a smear piece.

These guys are hilarious and it just goes to prove why they need to be ousted...

And the kind, lovable, gentlemanly Calvert has given this his seal of approval..

Posted by: The Greek at August 21, 2007 1:27 PM

Few people realize that the federal Liberal campaign was preceeded by an identical one in Saskatchewan against former SK Party leader Elwin Hermanson.

Right down to seeding the media with the theme that "women don't trust Hermanson".

Replace "Hermanson" with "Harper" and you still hear the same today.

Nobody ever polls men on whether they "trust" Jack Layton. Funny, that.

Nothing quite as effective as running a few push polls to get friendly press to push it further.

Fear works as the most powerful motivator. Let's hope the election is soon so the socialists don't have time to spend more money on vote buying.
I am so glad the provincial gov spent my tax dollars to keep the wheat board's control over barley exports.

Posted by: Justthinkin at August 21, 2007 2:00 PM

We all know that in contrast, what the NDP is really all about is sheep in sheep's clothing.

Posted by: HeartOfStone at August 21, 2007 2:07 PM

Wonder if Cristiane Ampour of CNN will mention Calvert in her three-part series starting tonight about religious extremism in politics?

Is not Calvert's ilk really politicians dressed up in (sort-of) religious clothing to legitimize their own brand of marxism, which ironically preached that religion is the opiate of the masses?

Can a person really be a marxist and purport to represent religious belief at the same time?

Sorry, if I'm being repetitive on issues that have been settled here already.

I'm a life-long Albertan married to a Saskatchewan gal whose grandparents were on the ground floor of the NDP's formation and who were regularly visited by Tommy Douglas.

The zeal for the marxists dressed in clerical robes has faltered in the third generation, thankfully.

Posted by: Orlin at August 21, 2007 2:24 PM

"Right down to seeding the media with the theme that "women don't trust Hermanson".

The media programs women to say they are scared, men feel they are coming to the aid of women by voting Liberal\NDP, and the taxpayer taxes it in the hooha. That's democracy in Canada in a nutshell. It's an invidious a tactic as exists, and a perfect example of why I belive universal suffrage to be fatally flawed.

Andrew:

Posted by: set you free at August 21, 2007 2:34 PM

Seems pretty accurate to me! The Saskatchewan Party is a crew that was in possession of STOLEN Regina City Police Reports that they posted on their website (until the police demanded the material come down) - and for which they ARE going to be sued for in due course!.

They also lied about how long they had the stolen Police reports - so someone in the SP Caucus Office will likely be arrested.

I thing the Sask Party has more to worry about then some draft brochure.

Posted by: leftdog at August 21, 2007 2:38 PM

As opposed to stealing money from the people?

Posted by: set you free at August 21, 2007 2:40 PM

Leftdog,

Far be it for me to question your motives, but you know those stolen police reports you are referring to? Those were originally in the NDP caucaus office.

So how exactly did THEY get ahold of those? Sounds like the NDP had stolen documents first.

And secondly, who in the RPS gave the NDP information about a private discipline process? By your standard, those were illegally gotten by the NDP as well.

Let's chat about that, shall we?

You guys are no longer better at playing this game.

Posted by: The Greek at August 21, 2007 2:45 PM

This is a joke, right? Even the NDP are not that desperate and stupid.

Posted by: EyesWideShut at August 21, 2007 2:49 PM

Hey Greek .... you said , "Far be it for me to question your motives" - my motives??? I remember how the Devine Conservatives NEVER BALANCED ONE BUDGET IN NINE YEARS - the Saskies are the remains of the old Devine crew - Wall even worked for them!!

Greek said, "you know those stolen police reports you are referring to? Those were originally in the NDP caucaus office" - you sure CAN'T read news articles can you .... the RPS had them from their investigation in the early 90's - (sheesh) .. "So how exactly did THEY get ahold of those? Sounds like the NDP had stolen documents first." The NDP GAVE them to the Police AND somehow the stolen Police files got into the hands of the Saskies ..

The people of Saskatchewan may want change ... but change to what?? That is what the election is going to be about - and that is why Wall WILL NOT win - too many lies, too many inconsistencies, too many connections to Devine in the past and Harper at present.

Posted by: leftdog at August 21, 2007 3:04 PM

People may blame the gov't (NDP in this case) but the root of the problem is the people that continually vote for clowns such as these. The fact that people continually fall for these brain dead tactics would seem to indicate that maybe it;s time for some restrictions on who we allow to vote.

A decent understanding of economics, and human behaviour would seem to be a common sense minimum requirement for entering the ballot box.

Posted by: johnboy at August 21, 2007 3:05 PM

Yes, Eyes, they are that desperate. They see the writing on the [cough]Wall.[/cough] :)

This brochure is just more proof that they're tired, it's 2003 all over again. Sell the crowns, privatize health care, "Alberta" style economics, reduction in labour standards.

Yawn, boring.

The NDP have _nothing_ to campaign on _except_ the "hidden agenda". If that isn't tired and old, nothing is.

Actually, you know what, there is a difference between 2003 and now. In 2003 the NDP actually had a platform to campaign on before they jumped on the scare train. This time it seems they're going straight for the scare.

Cheers,
lance

Looks like something freshmen at the Dipper Kampus Klub would produce. Really lame. Postscipt is right. The handwriting must be on the wall for the NDP.

With the uranium and diamonds (as well as oil), some people think Sask. has more resource potential than Alberta. Maybe people in Sask. will actually start to benefit from their resources once the No Development Party is punted.

My Sask based sibling told me that it's all over for Calvert. Coming from him, it's a stunning admission.

I wonder who the wolves really are? They've misrepresented themselves as the government over the past 6 years under this premier. Saskathewan voters will not forget Spudco (misled by the minister), Carrier (misled by the minister), Theft in the caucus office (misled by the minister), mismangement of Community Services (misled by the minister), Afganistan type roads through out the province, young people still leaving the province for post secondary education, highest crime rate in Canada. Again I ask.. who is the wolf here?

Put up those billboards and mail those pamphlets: I can't wait to see the reaction. Sure, the NDP's core voters will probably rally to the old war cry (or hand-wringing wail) one more time, but everyone else is going to either be PO'd or fall off their chair laughing like I just did.

It's a rally-the-base tactic: they're throwing out all the old cliches one more time with the hope that they can at least save themselves from a 1982 type melt down. It can work, too: the Liberals have been running this same campaign since 1997.

It's funny how yesterday's activists have become today's threatened establishment, reaching deep into the sewer to smear their opponents.

I still have a brochure, put out by the Sask Liberals in 1944, with lots of cute cartoon figures, explaining out the wicked commie CCF would socialize everything, confiscate farms etc.
It worked so well that the Libs were almost wiped out in the '44 provincial election. Their smear and scare campaign backfired big time.

Now it's the "Son of CCF" tha't showing its desperation and deserves the guillotine. "Plus ca change ..."

Posted by: Zog at August 21, 2007 5:11 PM

The whole thing is a gong show. I am embarassed at what we have for so-called "leaders" in this province. Wall has been too quiet over the past year and he needs to step it up if he wants to be the next Premier. Otherwise, most people will, sadly enough, stick with the evil they know. And Saskatchewan will continue it's spiral downward, despite all the over the top and nauseating gushing you hear on the radio from the likes of Gormley.

Posted by: him at August 21, 2007 5:16 PM

In the news report from you cousins and ideological allies at NewsTalk Radio (Gormley and Co.) they quote Wall as saying he wants to discuss 'POLICY' as we go into the next election .... HUH... 'policy'!!?

Here is what the Regina Leader Post had to say about Wall and the Saskatchewan Party's aversion to discussions about 'policy' ... hey wouldn't even debate policies at their own convention:

"Instead of discussing policy issues, the Saskatchewan Party held a love-in for leader Brad Wall."
- Regina Leader Post: Feb 17, 2007

"Brad Wall says this weekend's Saskatchewan Party convention is all about getting ready for the provincial election expected this year, and he defended the fact that no policy will be debated.[...]And the Opposition leader said he didn't think the absence of a policy debate would turn off the expected 400 party members who will attend the convention."
- Regina Leader Post: Feb 10, 2007

Policy ... yeah Brad ... let's talk some policy ... policy about how you came in possession of STOLEN police reports from the Regina City Police!

Pleeeeeze!

Posted by: huffb1 at August 21, 2007 6:05 PM

Leftdog - Last time I checked Harper did fairly well in the last 2 Federal elections. How did the NDP do? That should eliminate your contention that aligning with the federal Conservatives is a bad thing for the Sask. Party. In fact I don't think they are aligned enough with the Conservative party.

My problem with the Sask. Party is that they really aren't that wolf at all.

I support the Conservatives federally both with time and money. I have a hard time doing the same with the Sask. Party. They don't take a firm less socialist stand on a lot of issues. They seem to try to appeal to the NDP base more then the real conservative base in this province.

Wall's response to this attack could have just as easily come from an NDP leader.

Re: election timing:

The last election was held on November 5, 2003, so the government has until November 2008 to call the next one. An election this fall would be the normal procedure, and the NDP would get flak for not calling one, but with the polls the way they are, I'd put my chump change on a call in the spring. Look for a big propaganda barrage this fall instead, with more loud shrieks like today's from the Kremlin as the crowd starts to close in.

Posted by: langmann at August 21, 2007 7:34 PM

Leftdog,

The confidential RPS files were in the hands of the NDP. Can you explain why confidential police files of an on-going investigation were given to the NDP? Entire files are never turned over to the complainant.

Could it be because a former RPS police chief ran for an NDP nomination in 1995?

It appears like there has been collsion between the RPS senior brass and the NDP, including the latest incident with Cal Johnson and the Sask Party candidate discipline matter.

And why was a $6000 theft in the NDP caucaus office covered up by the NDP in 1993 when some Conservatives were doing the perp walk? Could it be that people would equate all politicians as the same.

You only refer to thefts by the Conservatives, but conveniently forget the NDP thefts and subsquent cover-ups.

I hear the NDP paper shredders now. When the Saskies get in, I sure hope they are able to find enough information for a massive karma payback.

Couple of things to remember:
- this NDP gov't has been in for over 16 years, time to give up the Grant Devine bashing
- much of the economic growth in this province is IN SPITE of the gov't and their crap attitude towards business (see the job killing monster)
- can you say tired and old? why do you think most NDP ministers have left for grener pastures? they are dead in the water, at least they think so.
- The NDP has a chance as long as they cling to Tommy DOuglas, scare tactics, and visiting old folk's homes to scare the crap out of them telling them the sask party is the devil.
Oh, and the unions, damn unions

The interesting thing is that once the Dippers fleece regular taxpayers and run all entrepreneurs out of business; people finally fed up elect a less left government ; well, low and behold - the old Dippers who have enriched themselves though insider trading and confidential information become CAPITALISTS!

They don't hang around the old brown tatters of the red flag of union demands and wages with the 'old Bolsheviks' Nope not those slimes , the former breakers of decent taxpayers become the boss and capitalists from hell. They buy the bankrupt farms and businesses after having harassed the original owners into bankruptcy and they set themselves up as the 'new Jim Brady's' (without the dash or the sense of decency).

The reformed Bolshevik is like a reformed 'soiled woman'; they desperately try to hide their past as regular 'workers' by treating workers in their own enterprises like pieces of garbage.

It happened in the Yukon - it can happen in Sask.

Sad fact - the left leaner hates people, hates accomplishment, hates quality - they are greedy, lazy low life who USE people who blindly follow the propaganda the Bolsheviks shovel. Look to Soviet Russia for proof of my assertions.

The NDP can scare little old ladies with stories of TILMA and diverting Canadian Water to the USA. They try to scare regular folks with 'big bad capitalism will take over everything' stories. The NDP thinks the best environmental plicy is to leave oil in the ground. The NDP thinks that it is better to leave Uranium in the ground and let the rest of the world develop nuclear resources (and income and jobs). Let not forget topping up pensions of boob fondling criminals while victems get *ucked one more time splitting a paltry compensation. Oh don't get me started. I can't wait for the election. It might be rather fun to devote a few months of my life doing nothing but showing up at every NDP whistle stop and asking some VERY DAMNING questions in person. The Saskies are so extreme in their right wing rhetoric (wink wink to the Greek) that the non-NDP vote is going to split and a fair chunk will go Liberal. Not enough for the Libs to win seats, but enough for the NDP to hold Urban Saskatchewan ... and you folks can all go back to whatever it is that right wing extremists do when they are not happy!

Dippers are grammatically challenged as well, to wit:

"The last conservative government in Saskatchewan recklessly sold off Saskatchewan's assets and nearly bankrupt (sic) the province."

At least if they are going to spread lies like this, they should have the courtesy of making their lies grammatically correct. Or else the population will see them for what they truly are, a bunch of spoiled, immature crybabies that are afraid of the big cutie wolf.

"Brad Wall's team of candidates has little to no experience in government, managing large organizations or large budgets."

Most of us would consider that to be an asset.

Well Leftdog, the Saskies and their supporters aren't taking anything for granted. They're working like they are 10 points behind.

This will be a war fought in the trenches by a very well oiled SK Party machine.

We learned from last time. And the voters won't let the speculation of a hidden agenda hinder them from voting against the party that proved they were the ones with the actual hidden agenda during the last election (see the PST hike one month after the electon that Van Mulligan said they didn't mention because it would not have been popular).

And the voters of SK wil be reminded constantly about that stunt, Murdoche Carriere, Jim Fodey, Baby Paige etc.

The NDP balanced one budget in 13 without increasing the debt yet claim to have balancced them all.
The debt has tripled since 1990 but then they don't count the crown debts like Sask Powers 2 billion.
With the huge spending in the last month I bet this last budget isn't close to what was budgeted.

And with the arrival of "ok" the gangs all here! I guess leftdog was threatening to charge overtime for spewing the same drivel over multiple blogs.

Folks, it is clear that the NDP strategy is to keep saying extreme, right wing and Grant Devine until 5 minutes after the polls close. Why they even use caps for variety. This garbage is right of the NDP web site.

I would hope that the next election (this fall if Lorne has the stones) will be about ideas and facts but the NDP are all about unsupportable claims, fear and innuendo. It is sad. However, I will give Wall credit for not leaving this unchallenged.

I am surprised at how early the NDP have started this. One would think that this would be served up much closer to an election. . .maybe we are closer than we think.

What's the deal about "economic union with Alberta"? Is there a plan to tie the Sask. dollar to the Alberta dollar? Are they talking about eliminating tarrifs on Alberta imports? Is there a SAFTA in the future?

"vote NDP to STOP Brad Wall AND THE GREEK!!!!"

Yes, I am to be feared!

Hilarious...

Posted by: The Greek at August 22, 2007 9:20 AM

aww, Kate the Sask Party pawn is again using Brad Wall's own words to post on her blog! how cute, just like "lambchop" (Brad's name).

Stop being such a hack for the party and start critiquing the Sask Party for their insepid lack of vision on anything. Come on, they won't sell SecureTek or Max?

Why not? What about private liquor stores? What about outsourced hospital delivery - or are they trying to shore up support in their small communities to keep the jobs there inefficiently?

Where is the SDA actual criticism of anything of late?

What you don't understand is that, except for the few that were hired by SaskTel, the IT specialists (me included) in Saskatchewan hate SaskTel. It (SaskTel) is another crown corp that has moved in to private industry territory. Selling SaskTel, in my opinion, would be one of the best things to ever happen to Saskatchewan.

Posted by: postscript at August 22, 2007 10:49 AM

so Postscript, WHY are you not asking the political parties to commit to doing such?

why are you taking for granted that the SaskParty would share your ideology and beliefs - they won't sell it, they won't trim it, they won't gut it.

does that satisfy you, seriously, as a policy position of a conservative party?

seriously?

Yep and if they put that thieving turdball back in, I will be liquidating my realty assets and investment there and moving the whole works back to Alberta.

Quite honestly, I vote SaskParty because it is, by far, the most business friendly choice in the province that is not NDP or Liberal. I agree with much of their business ideology.

There's a reason why the NDP is always trailing nationally, because they have no freaking idea how to manage government or prosper their dominion. Liberal is just another NDP party, but with less moral compass or convictions.

...was that picture Photoshopped?

Posted by: tomax7 at August 22, 2007 11:30 AM

Well lots of mud slinging here today. But that's part of the problem, for both NDP and SaskParty here, isn't it? I am sick to the neck of the NDP and have supported the SP in the past -- but I'm getting quite tired of hearing them talk about "the tired old out of gas NDP government" --and little else.

Where's the substance? Where's the alternative plan? Obviously they need a compelling reason for the jerks in SK to vote the NDP out -- what is it?

And make no mistake about it -- the people playing behind the scenes, the SP campaign managers, the advisors, the strategists -- not only are they the same people who helped Hermanson LOSE the last election -- many of them are indeed the same people who puppeteered Devine. Scratch a SaskParty supporter -- and find a Devine strategist.

And women didn't like Hermanson, that's the truth. And the SP knew that going into the election -- no resonance with women or city dwellers. I think they'll do better with Wall.

And I must say -- diffusing the campaign before it launched was brilliant on Wall's part. Absolutely the best move ever.

Do you remember Hermanson weeping on camera when the cartoon of him came out early last time?

If the SaskParty are the wolves in sheep's clothing then I gather that they are saying that the people of Saskatchewan are the sheep. Maybe The SaskParty should produce a picture of the NDP as the shepherds and the caption "Do the Saskatchewan taxpayers want to be fleeced one more time?"

Posted by: LynnH at August 22, 2007 12:11 PM

People in Saskatchewan have been voting NDP into power, so they deserve what they get and that is sweet bugger all - almost the entire province looks like an old abandoned mining town. Alberta looks like prosperity and Saskatchewan looks like poverty. Perhaps Ralph Klein should run Saskatchewan until the province gets on its feet; mind you then Albertans wouldn't have any cheap real estate to scoop up any longer. On second thought, let's just keep Saskatchewan poverty-stricken until Albertans have bought the place up.

Joanne,

Have you ever been to Saskatchewan? There's knowledge beyond the realm of your computer monitor that you should try to explore sometime.

Posted by: A. Cooper at August 22, 2007 2:07 PM

This is the problem in a province where the government is the biggest employer and a large portion of our population is aging. As a group, we are easy to scare, and this makes an easy target for a socialist regime. "Sheeple" is an accurate term. One on one, we are highly intelligent, en masse, not so bright. It reminds me of Germany during WW2. Germans, nice people individually, but get'em in a group and they invade poland. Keep the faith Saskatchewan!

Posted by: Brian Crossman at August 22, 2007 2:09 PM

A. Cooper - I've been to Saskatchewan too many times to count and for decades - married a farm boy turned miner. I was just being facetious with my comments about Alberta buying up Saskatchewan, but believe you me, Albertans are turning east instead of west because of the low prices of real estate in Saskatchewan. If the NDP do not get into power next time in Saskatchewan, I would buy some property quick before prices sky-rocket.

And A. Cooper, just because your world evolves around the computer screen does not mean mine does - see, you are not the only one who can make crap up. Your comments should reflect what you know, not what you think you know.

Posted by: Joanne at August 22, 2007 4:53 PM

Out of respect for our host, I have no desire to turn this into a flame war. I'll only say that when you demean something which you obviously know nothing about, you only expose your own ignorance.

BTW-you've already missed the boat. Property values have already exploded.

Posted by: A. Cooper at August 22, 2007 5:49 PM

"BTW-you've already missed the boat. Property values have already exploded."

Joanne - you might need to start with 2 paper clips before you can trade it up to house in Saskatchewan.

I wonder when the Sask Party is going to start fighting back.

About 20 years ago a man in a small town in Saskatchewan started a fight with his cousin (allegedly because the man was having an incestual relationship with his sister). The man, if you can call him that, broke a glass on the edge of the table inorder to have a sharp edge to stab his cousin. A small glass fragment was embedded in the man's eye, which result in his eventual blindness in one eye.

The above mentioned "man" was made the minister of family affairs by Lorne Calvert. He was later removed when his history was revealed to the Sask Party in June of this year.

I know all this because my father owned the small town bar, and my brother lodged a complant against the minister.

I only hope that the Sask Party will start to use information like this.

Posted by: Trent at August 22, 2007 6:56 PM

it's comments like Trent's that prove the Sask party and its supporters stand for nothing.

flippant accusations without any basis or relevance to the job at hand, complete disregard for people's personal lives or what smear campaigns are on them - when has the NDP smeared Brad in the same way? calling him a wolf in sheep's clothing is a comment on policy (or lack thereof) - personal attacks is, as always for the right, below the belt.

but what would be expected, I guess... sheesh..

Posted by: jason at August 22, 2007 9:32 PM

buckley belanger was the minister. look it up before you start slamming the saskparty

Posted by: Trent at August 22, 2007 10:56 PM

Jason, the NDP tend to claim the moral high ground as their 'superior' position. Yet, far too many I've encountered in personal and business life, tend to throw their weight around, interfering where they don't belong, corrupting normal business negotiations, or worse, ignoring proper protocol. Not that I haven't tried to expose the corruption that has occured in plain sight already, hopefully during an election there will be more opportunity raise the same issue again and present the same evidence in front of the folks these @ss hats are pandering to. If the NDP won't listen and explain while in power, you will have a chance to explain it before the voters. Hope you are in the crowd when I take to my feet.

Mr. Calvert: Call the friggin election, and lets get er on!!! Listened to Serby on Gormly this morn. what a sorry @ss lame duck.
"hidden ajenda" Am so sick of Kids games these guys call elections. Be a man for once, stand up out there and take on candidates for what they believe in. Scare , and fear mongering. Cant wait to get to the vote and get rid of these lame ducks.

This is great ..finally a portrait of the real Sask party..I would of personally placed a rat there.

Add a few whiskers to Wall..what do have?

Neocon Bait!

Funny thing is everything in the brochure is true. Just being an apologist for harper is reason enough to raise suspicion.

Posted by: Buddy kat at August 23, 2007 12:26 PM

Even the most dyed-in-the-wool lefty would have to admit that NDP's only hope in the coming campaign is to resort to the tried and true strategy of fear. They have little else to go on. There is much evidence already that this will be the game plan. In a recent interview on Newstalk Radio, one of Pat Atkinson's first comments about a possible Sask Party government would be drastic changes to what else but, MEDICARE! And now we see the "wolf in sheep's clothing" B.S. Be prepared for alot more of it and I am hopeful that the Sask Party will have the forsight to head off the NDP game plan which, by the way, was what won it for them last time. That and selling off the Crowns - We cannot let that messaqe gain any traction.

A housing boom, booming buisnesses, balanced budgets, drug plan for seniors. Yes it's pretty bad here in Sask. After all when Devine got elected he said there was so much money you couldn't spend it all. Remember??? Brad wall was his bum boy. Lest we forget.

Posted by: ok4ua at August 24, 2007 2:55 AM

"Housing boom, business boom, drug plan for seniors". All has to do with oil at $75.00 a barrel, nothing to do with Calvert and his misfits. How can you call a budget that spends $650 millions more than it takes in a balanced budget? Its smoke and mirrors. I think its a good idea to have some targeted support programs for seniors but this drug program should have been income tested. There are some seniors that can use the help but there are many that have the means to pay for their drugs. Governments are not there to provide welfare for the wealthy.

You want talk about the record lets start with scandal after scandal, Spudco, severance for convicted criminals, remember those. People are starting to come back because of the oil boom but they will come back in droves when the Sask Party forms the next government.

If Calvert's government has such a great track record why aren't they talking about that rather than doing the "scare" thing?

Posted by: a different Bob at August 24, 2007 10:25 AM

A. Cooper, I just called it as I've seen it, and not admitting how bad most of Saskatchewan looks doesn't reveal my ignorance, but quite the opposite. You can't change what you won't accept.

If you want to see the value of property exploding, come to Alberta and see what you get for the same price in Saskatchewan, and then tell me if Saskatchewan prices have exploded - it is all relative.

My point was how much better Saskatchewan would be without the NDP; if you are an NDP'er, too bad for you.
