A Class Act

Sunday afternoon as I was heading out the gate, a small car pulled up and a friend jumped out to chat for a few minutes. She's looking forward to a career change and (I hope) some well-earned down time after years of hard work in the trenches. She was making the rounds to pay her regards.

I'm sure that she had better things to do and more important people to see, but I was touched (as was Lance whom she'd stopped to see earlier) that Canada's Minister of National Revenue would take the time to drive out "to the middle of nowhere" to thank a couple of lowly bloggers for their support.

It was a pleasure, Carol, to be of whatever small assistance we could in helping out. You deserved it, you earned it, and you'll be missed.

The Prime Minister's statement.

Carol was an ideal politician from a local politics perspective. A rare one that really wanted to make a difference in her riding. She will be missed.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Carol. No matter what political stripe was involved, you always took the high road and worked for your constituents, not the other way around.

May you travel the roads less travelled, breathe the pure prairie air and simply enjoy spending some well-deserved time with your loved ones.

Hear hear!

All the best in the future Carol. I would have been proud to have you as my MP.

I wish her all the best.

Just a suggestion, you might want to put in some sort of clue for the readers that she's not dead, only not seeking re-election. The words "Oh good, she's not dead." actually escaped my lips.

An old-fashioned conservative: Came to do a job - and she did a good one - did it; walked away.

Thanks, Carol.

Like Tenebris said, we've lost another of the good ones that did the job and got on with their lives.

Sounds like you have a very neighbourly relationship with Carol. Can we assume then that the she and her fellow CPC members in the HoC are regular readers?

Posted by: bluetech at August 14, 2007 10:27 AM

You might assume that. ;-)

@Kate: Is that you in the picture with Carol Skelton?

Nope.

The Conservative Party of Canada has proven that there ARE politicians to be found that actualy give a hoot about this country and the people in it, rather than just about themselves.
To those of us who can THINK, the Conservatives are a breath of fresh political air and Carol was certainly the wind in many of our sails.
Thanks Carol, for showing us class, integrety and compassion, all qualities lacking in far too many of today's politicians.

Why can't Anita Neville retire?

Kate, I didn't know that you lived in Carol's riding.

I live in Brad Trost's riding and am about 20 mins east outside of saskatoon.

I am a new viewer to your blog and I like it alot.
