Greg Staples is all over the carnage;
The first event in Halifax two weeks ago -- a cocktail reception featuring Leader Stephane Dion and six of his erstwhile rivals -- attracted about 60 people who paid $250 each. After expenses, however, party insiders say the event netted only about $5,400.
$3,994,600.00 to go.
Now that's some kind of organization. Nearly $10,000 to pull off a cocktail reception that would have fit inside the Delisle community hall with half the floor space roped off. What were they serving for drinks?
Speaking of needing a drink...
The furor over the year-end grants to groups seen to be friendly with the Liberal Party began last April with a story that the Bengali Cultural Society received $250,000. The story had legs because one of the organization's executives was vice-president of the riding association of Liberal MP Maria Minna. The next day, we found out that the Iranian-Canadian Community Centre was given $200,000 just three weeks after it registered as a charity and that its directors included a Liberal candidate in the coming election.

I would just like to see Harper get a majority in the next election.
If this latest Frog Prince gets into power, we can probably bet that he will manage our money even worse than he does his own.

Fundraiser for Ontario's Colle Links Group That Got 'Slush Fund' Grants
...One organization that received the questionable grants is the Chinese Professionals Association of Canada (CPAC)...
...The Epoch Times has learned that CPAC board members figured prominently in a fundraiser for Ontario Citizenship and Immigration Minister Mike Colle six weeks before Colle's office issued the first of two unadvertised grants to CPAC. The grants totalled $275,000.
At least 12 of CPAC's 15 board members took part in the Oct. 19, 2006 fundraiser, according to photos of the event found on the website of the Chinese Canadian Times....

Yes, just imagine the new and exciting taxes to combat AGW, the Liberals have planned for all of us peasants.
Canada desperately needs a Harper majority, and a triple -E Senate.
Posted by: dmorris at July 30, 2007 9:33 AMThe brokerage party and its largess system on display....1/4 million out, 5 grand in....it all rationalizes in their books I'm sure.
The Liberal party has degenerated to nothing but a criminal patronage brokerage which only wants power to get its mitts on the public purse and enrich itself and its clients.
Capone would be proud of the shakedown system the Chretien Liberal machine ran....Dijon seems like a doofuc at at this game so I ssume the knives are out for him.....LPC needs a leader who can rob with a smile and lie without blinking.

Posted by: cal2 at July 30, 2007 10:45 AMIs it just me, or was that 32 million in hand outs designed with a purpose.
All these little heard of groups, with liberal connections being given money, my bet, says they all support the MMP voting system being pushed by the liberals here in Ontario.
It won't be long before all these groups have elected representatives, actively collaborating with liberals to keep that MONEY TREE alive.
Ps...100 bucks says...10% of that 32 million, finds it's way back into liberal riding associations...via (under the table) CASH!
...hey where do I register as a charitable Liberal organization?
Morals? What morals? Nothing is absolute.

I wonder if there is a list of the groups/organizations that were turned down, It would be interesting to know if they were considered to have political ties of the opposistion.
Just a thought
As you'd expect, an old fashioned welfare state party like the Liberals is much better at giving away other people's money than earning/scrounging it themselves, especially if the scroungees have to be found among their own number. And as for blowing nearly $10,000 in expenses and being left with all of $5400- which in turn had to be split amongst seven (!) guys- it reminds me of all those goofy job creation programs the Liberals ran in the seventies and which Jean Chretien was still promoting as late as 1993. Those were the days, eh?

...the US had similar 'make work' programs in the depression years, called WPA.
The slag for it was "We Piddle Around".

Posted by: Justthinkin at July 30, 2007 11:25 AMWhy Would Anyone Vote Liberal?
By Arthur Weinreb
The question has nothing to do with political beliefs or where Canadians stand on the left/right continuum. This is just as well as Liberals have no core values or beliefs to make that a relevant consideration.
Well that's not exactly true; many Liberals believe in two things. They believe in God and believe that God is a Liberal.
The party stands for everything and nothing except of course for the proposition that they and only they have a divine right to govern both the country and its provinces and territories.
Events over the past few weeks have shown that the sponsorship scandal is not some aberration; a one off due to the illegal acts of a few select Liberal members and supporters. The Liberal Party of Canada and their Ontario cousins truly are now firmly entrenched as the parties of sleaze and corruption.

I was invited--and went--to a very large Muslim gathering in Mississauga a while ago. It was in a vast, hangar-like space with a very large stage. Considering the huge divergence between Liberal policy on moral and social issues from that of this conservative group--very gracious and hospitable too--imagine my surprise when I noted about two dozen prominent Liberal politicians on the stage. Maria Minna was one of them. The guest of honour and main speaker was--wait for it--Joe Volpe! (This was just after "The kids REALLY wanted to give me money from their trust funds" fiasco.)
I was really baffled by this plethora of Liberal politicians from all levels of government and, at first, just couldn't figure it out: silly me! Then I realized that the Liberals have probably given vast sums of money to this group over the decades to host that particular function and who knows what else.
And, though the value system of this very religious, conservative Muslim group couldn't be more different from that of the Liberals--though I'm beginning to have my doubts there!--these people likely vote Liberal in large numbers: official multiculturalism "at your service" and just another, typical Liberal scam.
This scandalous party cannot be gone soon enough.
Posted by: lookout at July 30, 2007 11:51 AMNick Taylor when he was leader of the Liberal Party of Alberta used to joke that he held party conventions in a phone booth to save money. Too bad for Dion that phone booths are becoming a thing of the past. Now if only the Liberal sleeze would become a thing of the past.....
Posted by: Joe at July 30, 2007 11:55 AMI think it was Steyn who pointed out that a party in power for a long time attracts a lot of influential people who are there out of necessity - it's the only game in town. When they're out of power, those people just drift away; what's the point in belonging?
'Charities' promote governments that will give them more money, that is their number one aim, and they know that Liberals mis-appropriate money with regularity. And there are tens of thousands of 'charities'.
Bullshit 'charities' need to be stopped because they create conditions for more Liberal corruption, and Liberals don't need any more reasons to be corrupt.
'Charities' cost every Canadian taxpayer money because they don't pay any tax and they use more government services than the average Canadian. If the people who support a particular charity really want it to do what it does - they'll find the money, we should not have to pay for their cause whether it's healing the sick or buying weapons for a third world conflict.

Posted by: ural at July 30, 2007 1:03 PMHmm... y'know, the Liberal$$$ seem to be having the same financial and membership-shrinkage problems as the CAIR.
Both organizations only represent the few who bother to still give them any money. The CAIR claims to speak for Muslims, but really doesn't, except for jihadist ones, while the LIberal$$$ pretend to speak for Canadians, but apparently only speak for their few remaining donors and extremist supporters...
Not a good comparison to suffer...
Hee-hee! :>
Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at July 30, 2007 1:38 PMlookout...just a thought...could it be the other way around? Are these very wealthy Muslims that the Libs are getting smarmy with?
Which group would be more desperate?
Well, if Dion is out and about trying to raise his profile and get a few bucks, looks like a tough sell.
Who the hell wants to pay money to listen to garble worse than Bob Dylan in his druggie hay days?
The only people singing his praises are dope heads like his King Maker, Gerard Kennedy and verbal diarrhea specialist, Martha Hall-Findlay.

Posted by: spurwing plover at July 31, 2007 12:48 AMThe Liberal Muslim convergence is bizarre, but this has occurred repeated in Europe with devastating effects on the cities especially (city councils tend to be particularly left-wing).
What puzzles me is that I have large numbers of Jewish friends who are knee-jerk liberal supporters, and many female friends who are either not aware of this issue, or don't think it's going to be a problem.
Idiots. Put your head in the sand, and the only sure result will be a stick up your ass. Or worse.
Canadians need to know this, yet seem to ignore the matter. The same party that brought us the Tamil Tigers and Jamaican Gangstas are now about to bring us Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. And once they come, they never leave.
Stunning how cynical the liberals are when it comes to these things. They'll buy anyone's vote.
Posted by: Lori at July 31, 2007 1:01 AMwhy why why would anyone consider putting their X beside the lieberal candidate at a time like this?
I am truly puzzled by the latest poll results.
the only explanation, which I give a lot of weight, is the polls are manipulated by liebral supporters.
I voted for cretien in 93, havent voted lieberal before or since.
dijon is, how can I say this.... a combination of fish out of water, goofy comedic prop, village idiot, and puppet of the party bosses.
the way he mangles the majority first language makes me cringe. I constantly fast forward the video clips, 'is pro-nun-ci-a-chon grates on my ears badly. truly, I am very liguistic and pride myself on comprehending the accent laden words of collegues and my time at university, but this is intolerable.
fingernails clawed across the blackborad grating.
edge of the sheet of plywood scraping across the tarmac grating.
pry your lower eyelids down and turn them inside out grating.
the good news is in all likelihood dijon will continue to shoot himself in the nuts right up to the next election call and guarantee that lieberals will be left out of the running.
