Last week the New Republic raised eyebrows across the Internet by publishing a "Baghdad Diarist" column titled "Shock Troops," under the byline of "Scott Thomas," identified as "a pseudonym for a freelance writer and soldier currently serving in Baghdad." The piece made some startling claims about the behavior of U.S. troops in Iraq. "Thomas" wrote that he and men he knew had loudly and publicly mocked a badly-disfigured woman, desecrated children's bones found during the construction of a combat outpost, and run over dogs with a Bradley Fighting Vehicle for sport.
As numerous bloggers and readers hashed out the details, the questions piled up. ...-

How extreme do you think the 'Religion of Man-made Global Warming' is ??
Try this;
[Philosophy Professor Paul Taylor, City University of New York in “Respect for Nature: A Theory of Environmental Ethics", p. 115): “Given the total, absolute, and final disappearance of Homo Sapiens, not only would the Earth’s community of life continue to exist, but in all probability, its well-being would be enhanced. Our presence, in short, is not needed. And if we were to take the standpoint of that Life Community and give voice to its true interests, the ending of the human epoch on Earth would most likely be greeted with a hearty “Good riddance!”]
And this;
[Dave Forman, Founder of Earth First!: “Phasing out the human race will solve every problem on earth, social and environmental.” ]
And this;
[Earth First! Journal editor John Daily: "Human beings, as a species, have no more value than slugs."]
[An equally extreme case is Peter Singer, a ‘bioethicist’ at Princeton University. He maintains that the suffering of a crippled ant deserves equal consideration to that of a crippled human child. If we could only save one, he says, we should decide by the flip a coin or else we would be "speciests".]
Now wait a friggin' minute !!
An ant should mean as much to us as our kids !!??
Hey Gore !! or Suzuki, try telling that to some father, face to face.
Even some of our "beloved" Canadians want us to get-the-hell-out-of-the-way !!
[The specter of industry-caused “climate chaos” - a ridiculous term used by Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May - ultimately leading to the ‘destruction of the planet’ is a perfect vehicle for people who want to radically alter, or even dismantle, western civilization. Chief among these is Canadian Maurice Strong, head of the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and until recently, Executive Officer for Reform in the U.N. Secretary General’s office. His comment, “Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized nations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?” speaks volumes about what is really going on in the minds of some environmentalists.]
Are we going to take it lying down ?? while the Gores, Suzukis and Maurice Strongs of the world get filthy rich off of the misery they want to impose on us (Kyoto).
An ant is more important than our kids --- pathetic.

"Canadians prove humans are causing climate change." What is ASTONISHNG here is that the first paragraph states: "Humans are directly affecting global rainfall patterns and have been doing so for most of a century, according to a new study that gives the FIRST SOLID PROOF that people are causing critical climate change." WHAT? -- THEY ARE ACTUALLY ADMITTING THAT PREVIOUSLY THEY HAD NO SOLID PROOF. What about all of Al Gore's claims? Well, if the hysteria of the last 6 years was not actually based on any solid proof (as has now been acknowledged)of man-made global warming, I think we should all be a bit cautious about accepting this latest as "solid proof".

Remember the fires of Kelowna, BC in 2003 ??
Remember the hype by the climate alarmists and the media ??
BC forests to burn. Lake Okanagan will never be full again. Blah blah.
We heard all this media hype being repeated on the street when we moved here in the spring of 04 --- housing market was temporarily depressed by the climate fearmongering.
Why even this year a couple of retired CBC emploees still thought Okanagan Lake was still low. They did not realize that it had overflowed in 05. They also did not realize the lake is regulated to prevent flooding. The level is droped in the winter to make room for the snow melt. Of course they would never see such fundamental information presented on their beloved CBC, now would they.
And now the Okanagan Valley has just recieved some record breaking rainfal --- only 4 years after the Suzuki alarmists said AGW would cause drought forever. And forest fires forever. What jerks.
It is plain to see that the Kyoto Kult is all about religion as they do not even try to debate the science anymore.
It will now be a true test of humanity to see whether the "unreligious" can counter the prophet's dogma. Gore, for one, has pulled out all the stops to save his money machine.

When Physics Trumps Hysteria in Global Warming
Studiously hidden from public view are some extraordinary findings in physics which are providing new understanding of our planetary history, as well as providing a much more plausible scientific understanding of global warming. Regrettably, the current hysteria about global warming is based much more on fear, political agendas, and computer models that don’t agree with each other or the climate, rather than hard-nosed evidence and science.
The climate forces which have led to the estimated 0.6C degree temperature increase over the past 100 years or more (according to the International Panel on Climate Change) have been assumed to be man-made CO2 emissions from advanced nations including the U.S. We know this can’t be true for several reasons.
The first is that water vapor provides 95 percent of the total of the greenhouse gases, not CO2. The total of the CO2 represents less than 3 percent of the total. The second is that of the total atmospheric CO2 inventory, the manmade fraction is less than 3 percent of the CO2 total and therefore far less than 1 percent of the total greenhouse gas inventories. Third, studies of the recent climate variations are finding, for example, (See article by J. Oestermans, Science, p. 375, April 29, 2005) that glaciers have been receding since 1750 or so, well before any significant man-made CO2 emissions occurred. ...-

Posted by: maz2 at July 24, 2007 8:11 AMIn Today's Edmonton Journal (July 23) there was an article by Canwest Journalist Don Martin, based in Kandahar, that observed low-level dissension between the French-Canadian troops already there and our English-speaking troops. (Surprise! there is a 'Martin' with some common sense who can see the obvious.) Apparently the Frenchies won't mix socially with the Anglos, while our English-speaking troops mingle with the Brits, US, Ausies and other English-speaking troops from Europe. One comment he made was that the Frenchies were having great difficulty finding French interpreters to communicate in Pashti with the Afghanistanies.
So far as we know, the French-Canadians' mission is simply to stay in their Khandahar compound, protected by our Anglo troops, and try to train the Afghanistani military and police. Combat is not in their orders. So who is left holding the fighting bag? The Anglo troops!

Goofy idea could sink morale
By PETER WORTHINGTON
In a major weekend article, the Toronto Star raised the issue of special combat medals for soldiers who go "outside the wire" in Afghanistan, and face greater dangers than those based in camp.
What makes this a more significant issue than mere journalistic pot-stirring, is that DND sources are noncommittal on the topic, while Anne Irwin, identified as a "military anthropologist" (what the hell is that?) at the University of Calgary's Centre for Strategic and Military Studies, seems to think it's a sound idea to give soldiers who risk combat contact with the enemy, special recognition....
