It’s a shame Prime Minister Stephen Harper “will not recognize Tamils as a nation,” Scarborough-Agincourt MP Jim Karygiannis said on stage during the rally.Karygiannis then called the ban on LTTE a shame and promised many MPs, especially Liberals, “will stand shoulder to shoulder with you” to ensure “peace with justice” in Sri Lanka.

LTTE people come to Canada as refugees, get on welfare and start sending money back to Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan governmenet supporters come to Canada as refugees, get on welfare and start sending money to Sri Lanka. Maybe the problem is with the refugee program?
Posted by: Aaron at June 14, 2007 10:04 AMI grew up in Agincourt. We started calling it "Asian-court" when the Chinese folks started moving in.
Now evidently there are terrorists and their inevitable camp follower, the Liberal looking for votes.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at June 14, 2007 10:10 AMThe Tamil Tigers invented the suicide bomb vest - with dollars from Canada - back in the 1980's. Liberals MP's should be encouraged to stand shoulder to shoulder with them....
Posted by: philanthropist at June 14, 2007 10:24 AMYes, our refugee "Program" is a place to start. It's dumb and dumber policies are far too loose.
Some 30,000 illegals just got lost under the Liberals noses, have no idea where they are.
Of course our Trudeau Charter of Rights trumps everything, get your foot on the ground in Canada and Presto! you've got all the rights in the Charter afforded native born Canadians. It could eventually lead us into extreme situations with warring factions bringing their fights with them.
Tamil Tigers are an example and we have unscrupulous politicos stumping among them for votes. Karyigiannis is an example of a desperate Liberal, his old Leader Martin and Maria Minna were known to cavort with them as well. Hey, a vote is a vote.
The Tamil people who fled to Canada to escape may set the record straight on the legitimacy of the Tigers here if they have protection to do so. Otherwise how can we know the truth?
Posted by: Liz J at June 14, 2007 10:30 AMMy father, an economics prof at the time in the USSR, has read me, a little boy, an article about firing of a social worker in the US after she decided to question the welfare recipients about how many resumes they sent out and how many times they were called for an interview. Her superiors decided that she was causing unreasonable stress for the unemployed with her intimidating questions. I guess those kinds of questions don't get asked since and the flow of money to those who don't want to work continues unchecked and unchallenged.
Posted by: Aaron at June 14, 2007 11:20 AMKarygiannis and Coderre are probably really good friends.

Sorry Liz. This shows the misunderstanding most Canucks have about the Charter
"Of course our Trudeau Charter of Rights trumps everything, get your foot on the ground in Canada and Presto! you've got MORE THEN the rights afforded native born Canadians."
There. Fixed that for you.
Posted by: Justthinkin at June 14, 2007 11:50 AMAaron gets scored an A+. Liz J gets a still very credible A- but only because there are in excess of 36,000 missing refugee claimants (that Citizenship and Immigration will admit to), not a mere 30,000. Canada is well known all over the world, especially the 3rd world, to be an easy mark. No doubt the Liberals are proud of their national security risk but vote buying policies. Don't worry, be happy! ** Canada is the ONLY country in the entire world that EVER grants citizenship to refugees ** Does anybody out there doubt that the rest of the world is onto something that we're not? Duh.

I don't think that's true. Where did you dig up that information?
Posted by: JM at June 14, 2007 12:30 PMBecoming a citizen of many, many countries in the world is impossible (including many so called 3d world countries). For many countries it is very lengthy process and is difficult. Canada has truly revolutionary approach to citizenship, on the boundary with self-destruction and treason for the lack of better words.
Posted by: Aaron at June 14, 2007 12:43 PMSpeaking of the 36 thousand 'lost' refugees in Canada - of which several thousand were under deportation orders, many for criminal behavior/convictions- WHAT is the new government doing about this? I seem to recall the CPC making a big deal of this before they took office. But it now seems to have all been swept under the bureaucratic carpets again. The Libs used to cite "Privacy Laws" as the reason that the Immigration department couldn't pass on the names/addresses of the culprits to the RCMP. So what is this government's excuse, I wonder?
Posted by: Joe Canuck at June 14, 2007 12:53 PMLike, is there any issue the dyslexic left wont take the wrog side on? Are they hard wired to reflexively reject reason?
Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at June 14, 2007 1:04 PMThis behaviour from the Libs should come as no surprise to anyone following Canadian politics over the last few years. Martin and his cabinet used to attend Tamil Tiger dinners in Toronto. And Libs refused to put Hezbollah on Canada's terrorist list for fear of upsetting Muslim voters in Montreal/Toronto.
Libs pandering for ethnic votes no matter what the cost. What else is new?
Posted by: Rob at June 14, 2007 1:06 PMDamn! Two goof-ups in one posting but it's so hard to keep up. Thanks guys.

Of course they are. They're vote whores.

Posted by: FREE at June 14, 2007 10:06 PMKarygiannis.
I remember this guy. It was the late eighties. He was new to the party having cashed in on the ethnic vote in TO. I think he was also a wannabe Rat Packer... but couldn't quite cut it.
We were in Cyprus, on the greenline at a placed called Maple Lodge which was right near one of the check points across the line in the heart of old Nicossia. The Greeks had let their kids out of school early to protest and try and cross the line to the Turkish side. We stood in the way so that some over excited school kid, goaded on by adults that should have known better, wouldn't get across and arrested by the Turks or shot. It was a busy hot day and by nightfall things had cooled down.
That was when Karygiannis showed up at the crossing, drunk, with some of his local buddies. We had been told there was a memeber of parliment on the Greek side and we were to watch for him. Never did I think that he would show up and start calling Canadian Soldiers down, demanding to be let through, and swearing at us when we said no.
Oh yeah. I remember this Liberal. Same as the rest but worse.
Karygiannis is a buffoon.
The primary constitutional obligation the Canadian government has is to ensure the safety and security of Canadians not Tamils - and certainly not the loathsome "Tamil Tigers".
As boring as the old cliché might seem, if you want to advocate or commit violence over some perceived bitch or grievance with your "Old Country", go back to your damned "Old Country" and do it there.
Posted by: JJM at June 16, 2007 6:41 AMI think it would be interesting to see the results of an election in many ridings if the party name was not on the ballot. People would have to pay attention to campaigns and candidates.
