More Sarkozy

Via No-Pasaran;

TF1 is announcing the following results for the French parliamentary election:

UMP & Presidential majority (Right) : 405-455 seats
Mouvement pour la Démocratie (Eunuch Centrist) : 1-4 seats
Socialist Party and other Left : 120-160

Run-off elections continue next Sunday.

More;
The outcome is likely to leave Sarkozy with substantial political control, much like the sweeping powers Charles de Gaulle enjoyed with his hallmark strong presidency.

"I'm depressed - I voted for the Socialists purely because the right is going to win," said Geraldine Gourbe, a 30-year-old philosophy professor, on her way out of a polling station in northern Paris.

"I voted for them to be effective, but I'd rather have voted for the Greens or the Communist Revolutionary League," she said, concerned that those parties' candidates stood less of a chance of gaining seats.

The composition of Sarkozy's Cabinet and its ability to push through legislation is tied to the number of seats the mainstream right holds.

Labor unions and student groups are ready to mount strikes and protests if they deem that Sarkozy wants to go too far in trying to trim France's welfare state protections.

That schlurping sound you hear is the sound of suction breaking as the teat is yanked away.

Posted by: Doogie at June 11, 2007 2:39 AM

Ok, WHAT woke the French up? A 300 seat majority?

Me thinks the French riot police are gonna be a tad busy for the next little bit!

Posted by: Jim at June 11, 2007 5:31 AM

And that article? Could it have been more AP if they tried? A large majority for one side and who do they interview for the piece? A 30 year old philosophy prof who wanted to vote communist (a concept that will always boggle the mind) but broke down and voted all the way over to the right of socialist???????????????

A left-leaning philosophy professor in Paris is depressed.

Kate - thanks for this!

You've brightened up my day immeasurably!

Has anybody ever asked in France what the Communists would do if they won a large majority in Parliament? Just asking.

I'm still not convinced Sarkozy will do much of anything different from his predecessor - Jacques Chirac...

Posted by: Ace at June 11, 2007 6:48 AM

boo hoo for her depression.

May it be deep and sustained.

It is soooooo deserved.

Okay, am I the only one who sees a problem with the name 'Eunuch Centrist'?

I mean, it's apt, but...

As Andrew Potter states on his T-shirts, "Passez-moi le Karcher".

Go Sarko!  My family in Normandy are counting on you!

Maybe the French are just tired of getting their cars burnt up every night by angry "youths".

People will only be pushed so far before they start pushing back. This is just a start, more and more European countries will begin electing governments that lean right.

I predict an increased demand for firehoses in France.

Posted by: Shaken at June 11, 2007 9:34 AM

This is what will happen as soon as first laws are passed in their parliament.
Strike, strike, strike. The socialists and communists have stranglehold on French unions and will bring the French government to its knees. There is no doubt about that, no way, no how, zero. They did this to De Gaulle and will do this to Sarkozy. Once you get a free ride and take it, you sell your soul to the devil so to speak. Watch for the biggest unrest since De Gaulle’s time.
It is my sincere hope that I’m 100% wrong.

Bullsh_vik: "This is what will happen as soon as first laws are passed in their parliament.

Popular Mechanics will be reporting next month on the new quick'n easy french socialist invention that only strikes once: The "Do-It-To-Yourself" Guillotine. For those who don't want a job to get in the way of their highly valued socialist ideals.

I'm glad they published the philosophy professor's opinion - it was a great laugh.

Maybe France woke up. We'll see. Cracking those unions is going to be hard, but necessary. Lots of pain, but the gain will be impressive if they hold in there.

Posted by: langmann at June 11, 2007 10:48 AM

And the world MSM are busy dragging out every two bit media whore they can find to tell us why this is a bad thing.
Unions and students in Fwance are gearing up for class war! Intent on maintaining their entitlement and power over the public through more intimidation and threats.

I hate socialists!

Posted by: OMMAG at June 11, 2007 11:01 AM

I sincerly hope they have indeed woke up. When I toured the Canadian battlefields in Normandy, Dieppe and Vimy in 2000, the people of France could have given lessons in hosptiality. I genuinly liked the French people. The ones I met deserve better than what they have gotten in the last few years.

"Geraldine Gourbe, a 30-year-old philosophy professor, "

The typical Socialist, who lives in Never-Never Land, and is dependent on the hard work of others for her wages.

Maybe France has finally yanked itself back from the edge of the abyss. And Bolshevik is right, look for the labour movement to flex their muscles. Sarkozy had better prepare the Army for some home defense duty.

All I can say is:

HAH HAH!

Smell ya later!

Communists in Power in France...

...look at the post war history of france, they ALMOST did take power, having something like 47% of the vote. It's why that side of my family left the country. And it's why the unions are so strong.

Yep. It's going to be long summer and fall and winter in France with lots of manifestations/ protests/ etc... Lot's of VERY comfortable unions in key sectors of the economy are going to see their oxes gored.

Posted by: Fred at June 11, 2007 1:13 PM

Cheer up Geraldine ... you probably have a socialist president. He mentioned "global warming" in his first speech and seemed to be signing on to Eurabia too. Hoping not!

Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at June 11, 2007 1:41 PM

If Sarkozy is going to make a dent in the rot that stagnates France, he better act on his mandate and do it fast. It was why Reagan and Thatcher were so successful. The law of diminishing returns takes hold quickly in politics.

Geraldine is tenured and on the education dole for life no doubt. She reflects the majority of lefty liberal arts goofs that infest the world's campuses. "I'm depressed"....another vacuous lib feeling their way through issues and life.

The funniest thing , for those of us who watch French News, like TV5, is those interviews:

"A great "conservative" victory...we take you know the the Communist Party HQ for on the street interviews....." And then, after 5 interviews with them, we take you to some flavour of socialist party to intervew 5 more, then 2.5 seconds view of the victory party over at Sarkozy's party HQ and a 1 sec interview from one of them....

Errr. Fair and balanced, eh?

I would hope that Quebec is paying close attention to the path that France is taking. After all, they have been touting the French system as a model for thier own for decades and using it as an reason (excuse?) for thier political and economic expectations.

Has anyone seen any Quebec coverage of the story in France? I would be curious to see how they spin it.

Speaking of the Parti communiste, it's at its lowest ebb in quite some time.

It has been hemorrhaging membership and is so insolvent it's having to sell off a number of properties it holds in Paris and elsewhere in France.

Oh boo hoo.

Posted by: JJM at June 11, 2007 4:19 PM

No, no, no. It was St. Jeanne d'Arc; she got fed up with all the atheists Communists! I believe she put her electoral order in.

And besides Nicolas is an honorary member of the the 1st St. Nicolaas Army.
