That number of terrorists would be high due to terrorists killing their fellow country men in suicide attacks.

In the worst year of the war, the US lost 16,592 killed in action. When you consider that this war lasted, for the most part, for 5 years of intense military action these figures are astonishing: especially when the US was never attacked.
Considering that the real purpose of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars is to keep the war "over there", the cost of the War on Terror has been fought on the cheep both in military, civilian and monitory losses.
