Electroshock therapy is the method of choice in lighting CUBAN cigars, in mental institutions!!
Of course the world has gone completely MAD!!

Posted by: Fred at May 15, 2007 7:13 PMDoubt electric shock would go through the blubber on that big greasy windbag but there's little chance of that happening to a kindred spirit. Also
Castro is in a very delicate condition, reduced to a feeble old gaffer, happy to have attention from anyone, including the Trudeau boys of Montreal who regularly visit their long standing beloved papa Fidel.
Not sure if Fred's stogy is a good choice for a prop though.

Good on Fred. Moore is now outed as a liar and a fraud and is becoming more and more irrelevant. I would love to see a Guiliani/Thompson or Thompson/Guiliani ticket. Either way is fine with me. Together they would kick butt!
Hans, you have exceptional eye sight being able to state that Fred had a Cuban cigar. I'd bet my dollars to your doughnuts that is was made in the Dominican Republic. But what do I know, my smeller doesn't work near as well as yours.

Posted by: Kate at May 15, 2007 7:41 PMConservatives have been dissatified with the lineup of candidates so far.
If Fred Thompson runs, he will almost certainly be the conservative choice. He's our kind of guy.
Every one of the major candidates will have trouble getting past the primaries in the South. When you're dealing with the primaries, you are completely outside of the accomodations that have to be made in the general election.
Republican primary voters have to be satisfied that you're their guy, on guns, abortion, strong and aggressive defense, small centralized government...
While most of the first-tier crew have trouble awaiting them in the southern primaries, Fred Thompson could sail through slicker than a hound's tooth.

Why is this dude the only Republican willing to stand up and give idiot leftists exactly what they deserve?

Holy Crap!

He's either conservative or a very good actor. Or both.

I read the "*" in your post and in it MM accuses Fred of smoking cuban cigars. I did not see a rebuttal or refutation of this assertion by Moore. If Fred actually does smoke Cubans MM has a point vis-a-vis Fred being a hypocrite.
Is their another link the debunks MM's accusation?
Posted by: Gord Tulk at May 15, 2007 9:10 PMWay to hand the sanctimonious lard-ass hypocrite his considerable rear end, Fred!

Montecristo. The world's most famous cigar trademark. Originating in Cuba,Montecristo, is now distributed in the U.S., is manufactured by hand in the Dominican Republic
For a "documentarian", Moore sure sucks at finding out simple things like this. It took me all of five seconds.
Perhaps that's why Fred! was so in-your-face-MM about his response?
It wasn't Michael Moore that shoved a $543 billion prescription drug suppository up the taxpayers' wazoo.
And the cigar-chewing, tough-talking conservative Fred Thompson ... he voted for it too. But Mmm-mmm! He's going to bitch-slap those sanctimonious lard-ass hypocrites real good. Or vice-versa. Whatever.

Posted by: The Rubber Glove at May 15, 2007 10:58 PMThat was well said. It is true that some things should, could be better in the US one of the things that could be better in Cuba is for a person to speak out or even poke the government in the eye like Michael Moore does in the US. It was good to see the refrence to the Cuban political prisoner here that Thompson brought up. In Cuba, a fact based documentarian got assigned to a mental hosipital for electro shock therapy and meanwhile in the US a spinmeister can throw his stuff out without restriction to his freedom. No doubt Michael points out that if he was doing a piece as a Cuban film maker that took a similiar approach to something in Cuba, you wouldn't be seeing this movie or even really knowing about him. Surely Michael doesn't do this film ignoring the suffering of his fellow film makers in Cuba, surely he asks the hard questions that his hard won freedom would more than strongly suggest he be required to.
"So Fidel, we hear that you put people in prison for disagreeing with you and your government, that they are abused in prison, certainly you and your government can stand a some cricitism, look at me here talking to you, the abuse I heap on my government and its not falling?" That happens very close to the start, doesn't it?

What a brilliant concept, SMOKIN!!
Hey, CUBAN MISSILE crisis with CIGARS!?!
Until Fred came along, I had determined to sit out this election- no vote, no money, no on-the-streets activism-- and I've been a citizen activist since Barry Goldwater's run.
Yes, I thought the "choices" offered were that bad. God-awful. Boring. So "last century..."
Fred, I would vote for. Walk the streets for. Give money to.
This episode merely reinforces my belief that Fred, and only Fred, is the right man for the job. While the other candidates were "debating" each other- pointless chatter- who listens to this stuff anyway, besides talking heads?--
Fred put up the perfect response, in the New Media.
Why doesn't Moore bring the 911 workers to Canada for health care or does Cuba have a better system?

That was the operative point Lydia, Cuban hostility to the US has moved their primary cigar and fruit markets to other suppliers...among them the DR...I actually like the DR cigars better....and I smoke them in the pleasure of knowing I didn't further the cause of communist slave labor.

Posted by: Kate at May 16, 2007 9:28 AMSeveral references have been made about MM being a documentarian. What a joke! Moore writes fiction in the guise of a documentary. He has been shown to be a liar and a fraud. How anyone can objectively say that he writes documentaries is beyond comprehension and cannot be defended.
Fred Thompson, first of all, would kick his sorry lying ass in any debate, and second, would not flatter Moore with a debate in the first place.
Posted by: a different Bob at May 16, 2007 10:41 AMRe:Cuba
I've just returned from Varadero and a side trip to Havana - I can tell you that the Cubans you meet have a reasonably capitalist instinct and the fastest way to break the communist regime would be to LIFT the embargo - maintaining it only prolongs the state control which a closed economy permits, like convertible pesos.
As it stands, the Chinese are investing heavily in Cuba. There was an Air China 747-400 on the tarmac at Varadero when I left, which had brought some PRC bigwig, and there are three PRC TV channels on the hotel cable - one Chinese, one Spanish, one English. We know how their intervention has done such positive things for Sudan. It seems Fidel has found a new sugar daddy and the Chinese are looking for the foothold in the Americas the Soviets used to have.
Posted by: Mark Dowling at May 16, 2007 10:50 AMMark, the Chinese are on the hunt for raw commodities, anything they can suck out of a mine or oilfield to take home. Their foothold in the Americas is Walmart. If Walmart closed tomorrow, China would be in a serious world of hurt.
There are a lot of Cuban American entrepreneurs a short distance of 90 miles from Cuba that will reclaim Cuba when Castro croaks. Watch for Michael Moore and Oliver Stone, both disingenuous weasels, to be pallbearers. Add Jimmy Carter to the funeral entourage too. Good God, there are so many weasels in this world.
Posted by: penny at May 16, 2007 1:18 PMYup, the embargo is pretty much a useless joke.
Posted by: Fozzy Bear at May 16, 2007 1:24 PMYou can still buy Montecristos in Havana, but it's just one of the many pre-Castro brands that have are being manufactured off the island as well, often by companies that bought the rights to the name from the original manufacturers, who left Cuba after their businesses were nationalized. Even the Cohiba - the premium export brand of the nationalized Cuban cigar industry - has been trademarked by a competitor outside of Cuba, and there have been lawsuits and threats of lawsuits about this.

Posted by: Bruce Willis at May 16, 2007 11:35 PMWhat an extemporaneous flourish Mr. Thompson! Or rather, an insipid recitation prepared by some eager underling, without regard to the subject at hand, which I believe was healthcare. This was an obvious deflection to all but the factionalists.
