Because Silence Has Its Price?

How to resign and still collect severance.

The NDP government has confirmed former caucus chief of staff Jim Fodey will get severance following his resignation, yet offered no details Monday on the amount or how he's eligible for such a package.

But the Saskatchewan Party questioned how Fodey can get severance under guidelines set out by the legislature's board of internal economy.

"The NDP said Jim Fodey resigned. The severance policy says severance is only payable to employees who are terminated without cause," Opposition deputy leader Ken Krawetz said.

Fodey resigned April 28 after providing "incomplete" information to the public and NDP House Leader Glenn Hagel on how an alleged fraud was handled 15 years ago. Former caucus employee Ann Lord wrote a confession letter to Fodey and Hagel in 1992 before disappearing from her job, admitting she had altered cheques by about $6,000.

When the Sask. Party recently brought the leaked letter to light at the legislature, Fodey told reporters he recalled sharing the letter and other relevant information with police in 1992.

However, at a press conference April 27, Regina's chief of police said records indicate neither the letter nor notes from the caucus auditor were given to police until 1994.

Caucus chair Kim Trew told reporters Monday that Fodey did indeed resign April 28. But he offered few details on the issue of severance, suggesting reporters pose further questions to a labour lawyer or the payroll branch of the legislative assembly office. A call to that office was not immediately returned.

Deja vu all over again.

Be kind. Mansions in Alberta and BC where many pseudo-socialists retire at our expense are very, well, expensive. You don't expect them to dwell in the socialist paradise they created, do you? Sure, the property and income taxes are lower in BC and Alberta, but a good soldier who falls on his sword for his prevaricating boss deserves an extra $275,000 or so for the down payment on his socialist palace.

It is just hush money. No matter what they do wrong the powers that be are scared we will find out their involvement so pay them to shut up!

We are the sheeples who get fleeced on a regular basis, like the self-inflicted punishing pay raise of 35% or 39%, [forget which], that our BC emperor Gordon Campbell inflicted upon himself and friends.

That kind of pain we could all tolerate if we were not on the paying end.

Baby seal harvests may look bad but we never see marches on parliament for beef, pork, sheep or horsemeat harvest.

How come we never *MARCH* when citizens are being financially eviscerated? = TG

How about the big scam by Jack Layton when a NDP MP was caught on video stealing a $60'000.00
piece of jewelry at a auction, it took almost 2 days for the MP to confess to it when the Video convicted them.
Layton allowed the MP to Phone the RCMP to report the crime and be a witness to who was the criminal, the RCMP came to the home of the MP on a Sunday and after the RCMP discovered the truth of who was the thief , the RCMP handed the issue over to the Special Division for Politicians and Crown prosecutors.
Then Layton became part of the scam to let the MP collect Disabilty STD and LTD for Stress related illness , we taxpayers got screwed with the bill for a Convicted felon that staged a press conference and cried for the Cameras while Libby Davies and other NDPers re-enforced this charade to let a criminal collect a tax-funded Benefit Plan sick leave when the illness came after the crime and was not Work-related as a pre-existing condition that caused the crime.

Layton even allowed the convicted felon to run in a Federal Election for 2005-06 , and now this convicted felon is fleeing to France and never married the person they claimed the Jewelry theft was for prior to marriage.

I won't bother using the gender issue for this criminal because the MP would not give evidence to the Media to back the Stress claims that Layton went along with to get a Light sentence and probation and Community work .

If the NDP wants Social Equity and Justice for every Canadian, then start demanding that same treatment for the Black Youths that go to jail for lesser offences and can't you Stress to collect Insurance benefits for LTD from the Illness.

Times "Change" Over Fraud Case... Again
May 08, 2007

It turns out the Saskatchewan Party had the brown envelope, containing all the documents about the NDP caucus fraud a year earlier than we were first told.

This is the latest development, regarding a 15-year-old fraud case that has dominated the Saskatchewan political scene in recent weeks.

Opposition MLA's claimed they only found out about what was in the documents just before the start of the spring session of the Legislature. However, the party now says its chief-of-staff received the package a year earlier, but it was put aside without realizing what exactly was in it...

It was only after the SaskParty took a closer look several months later, did staff begin to work on the story.

Posted by: terry at May 8, 2007 6:10 PM

Terry,

The SK Party may have recieved the envelope a year ago... So what of it?

The NDP have consistently covered up fraud, have lied to the people of Saskatchewan time and time again, rewarded harassers, put children in risk at Oyate, lied about Spudco and Channel Lake. And you think the SK Party are worse because they had an envelope that uncovered NDP fraud for longer than a week?

Talk about moral equivalency...

The NDP are right where they should be; against the ropes.

After all that, if you support the NDP in this province, you're a twit...

Posted by: The Greek at May 8, 2007 6:22 PM

No kidding. They set aside the envelope and didn't get to it for a year!! Stop the presses!

Before the weekend it was the "revelation" that a SaskParty MLA had $50 stolen from her purse...

That's what the government is reduced to? The bizarre headlining only makes the local media look nearly as ridiculous.

Posted by: Kate at May 8, 2007 7:52 PM

It's always a small news day when you're looking the other way.

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at May 8, 2007 8:03 PM

Piece of advice to Minister Atkinson...

Just hold the press conference. Announce that you're not going to seek re-election. Personal reasons. Time to let someone else represent your constituency. Blah blah blah.

It's quite obvious you couldn't debate your way out of a Sobey's bag. I mean, c'mon...grow some female stones and admit that what happened was wrong, protocols have been put into place and move on already!

Wait. I forgot. Can't admit wrongdoings. You're from the NDP. Which is why this province has been sucking sloughwater since Tommy first laid eyes on this place.

If Tommy couldn't do any wrong, we can't do any wrong. Typical NDP thinking.

Bye bye Patty...and Lorne...and Andrew...and Harry. Good riddance!

Posted by: NewDad at May 8, 2007 11:45 PM

what a double standard. sheesh.

The opposition lied to the public - and you think that's not worthy of reporting? They said they received the envelope this spring and yet the truth is they received it a year ago.

They said in the house the police didn't know about the coverup when the same documents you linked to, Kate, to the Sask party website, showed that the NDP caucus staff let the police know *in 1992* that there was a confession letter.

crawling out from the sask party caucus office once in a while would give you some perspective, n'est pas?

Posted by: franklin at May 9, 2007 12:21 AM

Yup .. the Saskies are flippin and floppin on this one.
Version 1) "We received the stolen police reports in March just before the Session of the Legislature.

Version 2) "We received the stolen police reports a year ago, but we don't get to our mail that fast so it sat on Mr. Down's desk until, hey ... what is this here?

Wow - talk about hypocrites!

Criminal code of Canada says possession of stolen property is a crime. Police reports!

Wow - this story is getting better all the time.

Whoever 'Downs' is, will we read about his resignation today?

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 8:58 AM

Ahh, the shrill shreeks from the left become deafening...

Of course, dippers don't mention the Fodey settlement, the Ann Lord case, etc. They try to find moral equivalency with a deliberate cover-up from the NDP with $20 being swiped from a purse.

The shreeks could be best described by a line from the Matrix.

"Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability.

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 10:30 AM

Not talking about $20 - talking about STOLEN CONFIDENTIAL POLICE REPORTS IN THE POSSESSION OF THE SASKATCHEWAN PARTY!

In their attempt to hurt the government, they blew it and now there will be some form of criminal charges for:
-whoever leaked the material from within the Police
-whoever had it for A FULL YEAR

Someone in the Saskies office thought they had a silver bullet to take down the NDP with the Lord thing .... but because they played this wrong,
(stolen confidential Police reports - litigations for posting on their website - nondisclosure to police of their possession of stolen records) the crap is going to hit the air conditioner and all hell is going to break out!

Nice try The Greek

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 10:44 AM

I love the spin... but can you answer this for me? Please let me know how you know these documents were STOLEN? Do you have some information the police should have?

Nobody has ever said these documents were stolen.

Time will tell is the Saskies played this wrong, but I don't think so...

If Calvert believes the SK Party are so wrong on this issues, if he believes that a caucas cover-up is the same as receieving documents in a brown paper envelope and holding them, he should call an election. Let's see if he has the balls to do that!

Just another brick in the NDP backpack....

Regina Police Launch Internal Probe After Their Records End Up In Legislature

Tim Cook, Canadian Press
Published: Thursday, May 03, 2007

REGINA (CP) - The Regina police have launched an internal probe to find out how their confidential reports ended up being fodder for politicians debating a case of apparent fraud in the governing NDP caucus office.

Police are required under the law to keep their records secret unless they are released under appropriate circumstances, such as in court, said Insp. Rick Bourassa. "It's very unusual for that to happen," Bourassa said. "I was very surprised."

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 12:06 PM

(From the same article - page 2)

"Bourassa said that the police reports in question were printed off the department's computer system in 1994, but it is not clear whether the reproduction was initially legitimate and then the reports fell into the wrong hands.

Regina police do view the records, which have been tabled in the legislature, as their property and Bourassa asked anyone who has a copy to return it.

"We know that people expect us to maintain confidentiality when they are speaking to our officers," Bourassa said. "People do part with very, very sensitive information sometimes and there certainly is a public expectation that we protect that information."

This theft - possession - and publication of confidential police reports is going to be HUGE!

just wait .....

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 12:10 PM

So an internal probe means that documents were STOLEN? (to use your use of caps). The "guilty until proven guilty" provision in our law means nothing as long as you don't the like people being accused?

Keep grasping.

The SK Party were wrong for keeping the documents for as long as they did. I agree.

Why don't you just admit the NDP were wrong about covering up the fraud. Or are you too much of an NDP follower to see the truth through your socialist ideology?

Tell your pal Calvert to call an election and let the electorate decide who was "more" in the wrong...

I just hope and pray that you are one of the NDP braintrust... Please let it be true...

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 12:14 PM

Get Calvert to call an election on this...

Let the people decide...

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 12:34 PM

Leftdog, I guarantee you it will not be huge, you dippers are running scared and looking to deflect any way you can. Can you explain to me please how a Fodey can quit his job and still get severance package? An honest question..care to answer?

Posted by: Paul at May 9, 2007 12:35 PM

Are there ANY direct connections between the Regina City Police and the Saskatchewan Party?

Hmmm ... I will wait for the results of the Police investigation of how their stolen confidential reports got into the Sask Party Caucus and the consequences of why the Opposition MLA's authorized posting them.

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 12:41 PM

"Are there ANY direct connections between the Regina City Police and the Saskatchewan Party?"

The reports were copied in 1994.

The SaskParty didn't come into existence until 1997.

I hope that helps.

Posted by: Kate at May 9, 2007 12:47 PM

Leftdog is treading on dangerous ground if he is inferring to what I think he is regarding a Police and Sask Party connection. Care to elaborate in print? And still waiting on your Fodey severance responce.

Posted by: Paul at May 9, 2007 12:56 PM

The fact that the reports were 'copied in 1994' is totally irrelevant. This guy Downs says he received them ONE YEAR AGO - so I ask again .... Are there ANY direct connections between the Regina City Police and the Saskatchewan Party? ... and I ask this question because IF THERE IS .... the you are going to see a REAL SCANDAL ... not some $6000 thing from 1992.

This will be an interesting point to determine!

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 12:59 PM

And Paul ... I asked a question ... you sound a tad defensive with your choice of the word 'infered'.

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 1:02 PM

In a typical leftist manner, leftdog accuses, makes innuendo, but offers no substantive facts.

He infers that it was a member of the Regina Police that offered the documents to the SK Party.

How do we know that those documents weren't sent by some NDP caucas employee and that the documents weren't held in the NDP office since 1994? Maybe the NDP had the illegally obtained documents in their office?

The NDP have been lying to the people of Saskatchewan for years. It's their modus operendi Is this not plausible?

The fact is we don't know either. But people like leftdog realize how bad their party looks in the polls, so they just make stuff up... Just like they will make stuff up to scare people in the next election. They have no shame...

Keep hoping leftdog... I say let Calvert call an election on this issue and let the people decide.

But you won't address that will you leftdog?

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 1:14 PM

I forgot to mention that in 1995, a Regina City police officer ran for the NDP, or for an NDP nomination in Regina. I can't recall his name. Someone here would know it.

Could he have sent the documents to the NDP caucas in order that they don't embarass themselves so close to the Conservative scandal?

So leftdog, the documents could have come from anywhere... but you don't want to hear that, do you?

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 1:25 PM

Hey the greek - didn't Shakespeare say something about 'protesting too loudly'??

All I asked was one question and you went off on a tangent saying that I am 'inferring' things that I didn't - made 'innuendo', which I didn't - wow ...
my question seems to have struck a nerve here! Is that a guilty nerve, I ask?

greek said, "So leftdog, the documents could have come from anywhere." No ... they came from the Regina City Police and the Regina City Police is going to find out who - what - when? ( I think we already know the 'why').

Posted by: leftdog at May 9, 2007 1:44 PM

I think Shakespeare also said something about looking in the mirror...

Tell your pal Calvert to call an election right now, so that you and I can be friends again.

Posted by: The Greek at May 9, 2007 3:22 PM

CHRISTINE TELL!!!! SP CANIDATE were the hell is she on all this. She should be mad that some person in the RPS is handing over police documents.

Were do her loyalties lie with The SASKATCHEWAN PARTY OR THE RPS. I would like to know what she thinks about missing police documents at her place of employment??

Maybe the RPS UNION can hire a ummmmmmmmmmmmmm a out of province company (BC ad firm) to help out. Christine why does the RPS Union hire BC Firm ad firm??? and oh yeah is it not your typical right wing firm.

Oh yeah i forgot...I AM AS IMPORTANT AS PRINTING PRESS....Kate no you are not! I think maybe to much paint fumes!!!!

Posted by: TERRU at May 10, 2007 3:38 AM

TERRU,

First of all, love the caps...

Secondly, what was the name of the Regina police chief that ran for the NDP in 1995? I can ask you the same... Where were his loyalties?

Could he have released those documents to the NDP in 1994?

I think it is more likely that he would have had more access to those documents 12 years ago than any SK Party candidate had today...

I think a lot of us are interested in seeing how this plays out...
