The Redneck Green Show

(As an aside, note the decorative lamps burning in the background of the Dion interview - because turning off a light must never be confused with "efficiency".)

Actually, the lighting in the background would have been done very deliberately by the CTV crew. This is commonly done in interviews to add colour and depth to the overall image. I wouldn't be surprised if they had even moved the lamp there to provide that nice, friendly "golden" hue...

in quebec, if your first name is richard, you share the name with such canadian heroes as rocket richard.

in albert, however, you're just a dick. no wonder so many westerners are bitter.

anyone catch the latest SES poll results. ouch.

"Dat is not fair, I am saving Canaduh while I drive around wit my priape" Borat Dion.

Posted by: cal2 at May 8, 2007 9:19 AM

The middle of the day, and it appears as though every light in the house is on...fine example.

It all makes sense when you remember it's not about what you do...it's about what you make others do. That is the Liberal Way(tm).

Albertan is not spelled Albertain. Otherwise, no surprises and quite accurate.

That is pretty humorous!
I see bug boy is in a hurry to get his two cents in!

Sheesh, who even buys an actual newspaper anymore? That's what the net is for.

Posted by: Polly at May 8, 2007 10:17 AM

There's no excuse for Dion to not upgrade his windows, they are not nearly as expensive as you'd think, and installation is reasonable.

I have a big, old fashioned single pane window in my living room, about 8 feet by 5 feet, total cost to remove and install a new energy efficient window was $800.

Dion could probably have all his windows replaced for less than 10,000 dollars, which is a small percentage of the value of his home.

He doesn't qualify for any government grants, unfortunately, as his salary is slightly above the poverty line.

Sheesh, who even buys an actual newspaper anymore? That's what the net is for.

The Star's Monday through Sunday total cumulative readership is 2,117,500.

Can you imagine if Stephen Harper invited reporters into his house to see his compost bin and his recycling box? The media would be all over how he's trying to "look" green.

Is the implication of this segment that Stephen Harper doesn't recycle? Just like Dick said, most of us do, you know. I have four separate recycling bins, too. And I have five backyard composters. I use rags, not paper towels. I used cloth diapers. I even use cloth other things, but I won't mention that in polite company. Other than toilet paper, nothing disposable comes into my house. I'm totally green.

But being green personally has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not one wants the government to interfere and ruin our economy because of Kyoto. I may want to reduce our landfill problem, and I may want to save money (being green does save money, you know), but I don't particularly want to send Canada into a recession and punish the Third World all so our liberal politicians can feel self-righteous.

For pete's sake, most of us are green in our daily lives. But we still want the government to LEAVE US ALONE. Why can't they get that?

What happenned to Dion's other car. I understood that he drove a 8 yr old Subaru Forester. Mr. SUV must have been shamed into a Prius or else that is is wifes car. Cheers.

Posted by: sandra at May 8, 2007 10:51 AM

I'm willing to bet that Dion gets all those papers for free.

Have any of you seen the comparison of the Bush ranch house and the gore mansions. And Bush did all this before he was President.

Is Star readership 2117500 readers or 302,500 who read 7 times?

Posted by: DDT at May 8, 2007 11:57 AM

Most of us are doing as much as we can, not because we're politicians, but because we care. Oh, and I was shocked to see, Mr. Dion reads the National Post! He obviously wants to know what people are really thinking!

Posted by: wendy.g at May 8, 2007 12:12 PM

the post was there for effect. it was going to the recycle trash. he archives the mop and pail.

Posted by: cal2 at May 8, 2007 12:48 PM

Did anyone else get an "Amway vibe" when Dion was talking about the cleaning products?

I'm sorry if it's offensive but the whole clip reminded me of two spoiled children, dressed in their Sunday best, proudly showing off their exercises in finger painting...

Bad link, Alby. Anyway, are you are saying you are an expert on dicks? Are you speaking from personal experience? Is Dick the only Albertan who has recycle bin/owns composter? How many Albertans have these? Please provide numbers along with link.

Posted by: Shamrock at May 8, 2007 4:32 PM

was that S.D.'s government supplied home?

I agree JD, a scene for the pathetically weak minded.

Posted by: multirec at May 8, 2007 6:49 PM

At least Dick seems to know enough to put his (black) composter in the sun, doesn't make much sense having a black composter if you put it in the shade like the Dion's seem to have done.

Posted by: Mugs at May 8, 2007 7:16 PM

Ok, alby, still not sure if you are a dick or not; just know you are a bigot, though.

Posted by: Shamrock at May 8, 2007 7:31 PM

Ignore the trolls.

And a whole lot of you need to grow up.

Posted by: Kate at May 8, 2007 7:46 PM

Elitist Dion has no idea the average Canadian home has no need for a chandelier with 8 lights in their foyer.

And how is composing good for the environment anyway? Organic matter composes regardless...

I would love to be able to get the wife's Mazda 3 in the garage but the recycle bins of cardboard, paper, plastics, pop cans, w(h)ine and beer bottles and used childrens clothes for the Canadian diabetes assoc. prevents that from happening. Except on recycle day where we drive into the garage after returning from the recycle depot. Heck, the wife even rinses the empty beef & ravioli cans in the dirty dish water and sorts those as well.

You really get an appreciation of how much crap you can go thru in a month when you pile it up like that. Haven't started compostiing yet, getting a guilty feeling, must purchase offsets now, slowly puts down the kool aid...

Hey Jeff, I've lived in ON and AB and you're right, Albertans are better people, generally speaking of course.

It was on topic, and as juvenile as the video that you started this link with Kate. Maybe you are upset at the link showing the Conservatives in a bad light.

One question Kate. Is the post-

"Albatross,
If we wanted to hear from an A-hole we would fart.

Posted by: Albertaman at May 8, 2007 5:46 PM"

on topic Kate, or is it just you choose to ignore anything from one of your lackeys?

"Albertan is not spelled Albertain. Otherwise, no surprises and quite accurate."

I was spelling it the same way Dion pronounces it...
