I think this whole thing is presented in an intellectually dishonest way. If I hear Layton correctly, I think his issue is with the Attorney General instructing witnesses to use a generic "national security" excuse to avoind giving testimony. The implication seems to be that some of these claims of "national security" are bogus and just a way out of giving testimony. He isn't actually suggesting that military secrets be given away, as this clip would lead you to believe. Now, I have no opinion one way or the other about the legitimacy of the national security claims, and Layton may very well be barking up the wrong tree, but the accusation that he wants to reveal state secrets is tenuous at best and a smear at worst.

I would never in a million years vote for the NDP or Liberal party, but when a judge asks a question and is denied an answer for reasons of security, the government should be asked why and be on record in the House that it is for security. Roger, good post. The only minor point on which I'd disagree is that according to all the Islamic writings, Muhammed's "bride" was actually nine years old, not ten. Muhammed "married" her when she was five and "consummated the marriage" when she was nine. This is a generally accepted historical fact in the Muslim world.
