I "turn the water off when I brush my teeth" as a matter of course, and have done so since I learned to brush 'em, 45 or so years ago. The biggest energy-saver with lights is "turn off the ones you aren't using to see with," a course of action I was taught before I was ten years old. We had a compost pile in the 60s when I was a kid.

Why are common sense actions so often identified in the media these days as "eco"?

It's almost painful to think of so much money in the hands of such utter simpletons.

All she and her socialite friends have to do (along with those committed Hollywood stars, Al Gore and Doc Suzuki) is adopt my simple "ecodownscaling" plan.

It's really very straightforward: first, they all reduce their carbon footprint and ecological impact down to my economic level.

Naturally, that means disposing of all excess property, possessions and wealth until they are on a level with my situation.

Then I'll happily join them as we "ecodownscale" to the next level below. And so on, and so on.

I'm ready anytime!

I read this morning that Cheryl Crow's big new idea for saving the planet was for everyone to use, get this,..... only one square of toilet paper per sitting. This thing gets funnier by the minute.

Why it is that the rich socialists get the press for apparently no other reason than being rich socialists. Though it is understandable that the ‘reporters’ would rather hobnob with the rich and preferably socialists than a more mundane people who actually have to get up in the morning and work their ass off to make a living.
Then the ‘journalists’ report these characters pronouncements as something so seriously profound that the people who read it should really fall on their knees in awe.
That people do these things daily because of necessity, of course makes no news.
Now the world just needs to wait and see if the rich socialists stop using the toilets, as not to flush all that garbage into the rivers everywhere.

I just watched part of 'An Inconvenient Truth" on cable -- I couldn't bear to watch it all. At one point Al Gore makes the claim that he has given his presentation over 2000 times, all over the world. I am guessing that he charged less initially for his appearances, but if you assume an average price of US $50,000 per talk, this works out to >US $100,000,000. Not a bad gross! Not surprisingly, no one in the media appear to have made the point that perhaps Al has a slight conflict of interest here -- not only is he a principal in a carbon trading company, but he is on his way to the billionaire club, via giving scary presentations in person or through his movie. I wouldn't mind so much, if it was gullible people freely giving of their own money -- unfortunately, it appears that much public money is flowing into Al's pockets, indirectly through universities, school boards, and various levels of government.

I'm waiting for one of them to call for a ban on feminine hygiene products.

Let's have some sympathy with those honest folk who buy into the AGW theory. They're your typical citizens who wants to do the 'right thing'. It just so happens that these folks are a wee bit more swayed by the opinions of famous personalities than your average less-government-is-better citizen. It must be horrifying for your average pro-AGW person to see all their spokespeople (not just the obscure ones, the main messengers) unable to practice what they preach. At some point these people will (we hope) realize they've been duped by people who have no scruples about using their 'fame' to push a cause that they're unwillng to make personal sacrifice for. One has to question the motives of somebody who publicly promotes a message but is shown to privately make no efforts to live that message.

At least the people who we tend to disagree with in here (I expect) are trying to practice what they preach (nod towards albatross, et al).

Inside the Brandt Centre, he may have been preaching his "Inconvenient Truth".

But, the truth of the matter is, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore travels in style, when he goes from place-to-place to explain how people need to take care of the environment.

Take for instead, his mode of both, air and ground transportation. Since Gore only travels in hybrid vehicles, the Lexus that got him from the airport to the Brandt Centre was just that -- an $80,000 hybrid.

Turning now to the air, with the fuel Gore's private plane used for this trip, you could probably take your vehicle and travel back and forth between Vancouver and Halifax about four-and-a-half times.

Gore chartered a Falcon 200, a twin-engine jet that seats nine. The distance travelled between Nashville, Regina, over to Calgary for an event Monday night, and then home to Nashville, totals more than 4,500 kilometres..

According to local aviation experts, the Falcon 200 burns about 215 imperial gallons of fuel per hour. Based on distance and expected flying time, about 1,800 gallons of fuel will be used.

We're basing the comparison on the travel to a vehicle with a 60-litre tank, that can travel about 400 kilometres without having to re-fuel.
