The Torch;

Last week LGen Leslie said a decision was going to be made within a week. This week, I'm hearing it might take up to another two weeks to make a formal announcement. That's a whole steaming pile of "hurry up and wait" when we can't really afford to.

Let's also not lose sight of the fact that the CF is acquiring these tanks for more than just their air-conditioning. The "M" in the 2A6M designation stands for "Mine" - as in up-armouring to protect from mines and their close cousins, IED's. These tanks will give the troops more protection. With a 120mm gun instead of the 105mm on the Leo 1's, the new tanks will also give the troops a bit more of a punch. In fact, the Leopard 2A6M's will offer a whole host of improvements over the current equipment, not just a cooler working environment.

Here we have the People's Republic of China admitting that they need to learn socialism from the Bush Administration:

An exclusive interview with US DOL spokesperson

"In order to build a Harmonious Society, Chinese government is trying to secure its low-income earners' revenue and benefits. In this regard China has a lot to learn from America. So Yong Tang, People's Daily Washington-based correspondent, recently conducted an interview with a spokesperson from the Office of Public Affairs of the US Department of Labor (DOL)."

"At 26 or 27 degrees, you would probably lose half of the Georgia crop," valued at about $20 million to $25 million dollars, Scarborough said.

But he said he believed temperatures will more likely be around 29 to 32 degrees, which could affect between 15 and 20 percent of the crop, at a loss of $10 million to $15 million.]

Big Bang at the atomic lab after scientists get their maths wrong

Times Online ^ | 4/8/07 | Jonathan Leake
A £2 billion project to answer some of the biggest mysteries of the universe has been delayed by months after scientists building it made basic errors in their mathematical calculations. The mistakes led to an explosion deep in the tunnel at the Cern particle accelerator complex near Geneva in Switzerland. It lifted a 20-ton magnet off its mountings, filling a tunnel with helium gas and forcing an evacuation. It means that 24 magnets located all around the 17-mile circular accelerator must now be stripped down and repaired or upgraded. The failure is a huge embarrassment for Fermilab, the American national...-

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fathers 4 Justice rises again

Peel Region chapter launches at Brampton Courthouse

Fathers 4 Justice Canada brings its campaign for equal parenting to the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton ( South east entrance )

WHEN: Tuesday, 10 April, 2007 @ 9:00AM.

Court management attempted to ban F4J's intended activities over a week ago, citing security concerns. F4J (Canada) Legal Director, Hal Legere, was able to settle the dispute through correspondence and agreements were reached which met all parties concerns.

The group points to the success of its recent York region launch by Denis Van Decker. What began as a float in the Aurora Santa Claus Parade has turned into a steady presence of Fathers 4 Justice Canada members, superheroes and media at the Newmarket Courthouse. The group gathers there twice a week to collect signatures on their federal petition for equal parenting as a presumption in law. Members also seek to educate the public about the harmful effects of Family Law courts.

As has become the calling card of the Internationally renowned organization, superheroes will be present at the Brampton courthouse to again reiterate the need for parents to be the superheroes in their children?s lives.

F4J (Canada) is heating up for a busy season. Recently our moratorium on civil disobedience was rescinded. "Expect some high flying action in the months to come", says Ms. Kris Titus, the groups new President and National Coordinator, "We are very pleased to welcome Roy Wilder to our ranks and look forward to building a strong presence in Peel region."

LOCATION: Ontario Court of Justice, 7755 Hurontario Street, Brampton ( South east entrance )

TIME: 9:00am

Shiite Cleric Urges Fight Against U.S.

BAGHDAD (AP) - The powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his militiamen on Sunday to redouble their battle to oust American forces and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating **your archenemy.**

The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Sunday.

Security remained so tenuous in the capital on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the U.S. capture of Baghdad that Iraq's military declared a 24-hour ban on all vehicles in the capital from 5 a.m. Monday. The government quickly reinstated Monday as a holiday, just a day after it had decreed that April 9 no longer would be a day off.

Canada should restrict immigration to those who will benefit Canada ie speak the language,{no esl lessons] have money or a klprofession.
Both the US and Canada feel it is kltheir obligation to pander to all the people in the world who want to relocate, using the excuse that "Who will look after us in our old age" and who will do the dirty cheap labour work.

The following could improve your life and lungs, clear cities of smog, and defeat Acmahdinejad.

Three facts - The EV wave has started

[1] General Motors were shocked that their trial electric car of 1993, the EV1, was a wild and addictive public success. Indicating the death of the ICE engine. So much so, that they gathered every last EV1 and crushed them in a secure GM compound. [Rent the video, *Who Killed the Electric Car*.]

[2] Chevron / absorbed Texaco and gained control of patents for the large format NiMH battery. The ideal BATTERY FOR AUTO-MOTION. For nay, they have no wish to keep us dependent upon products of their 8 to 12 Billion$ refineries and their giant distribution networks.

[3] Suspect ye not the governments, who, [at the moment], have no idea how to bring in tractor trailer loads of money on the 8 to 16 cents of charge required by EVs that can plug in anywhere anytime.

The Electric Vehicle wave has started and is well under way. The range of the GM *93 EV-1 was 130 miles. Today, a range between charges of 250 miles is reasonable, however smaller NEVs [neighbourhood electric vehicles], of a 40 mile range are popular and sell for only 12 to 14k.

http://TonyGuitar.blogspot.com

Freedom from the grip of volatile gas, [remember the *70s empty gas pumps?], makes the EV a life-saver that pays for itself. A solar panel roof can provide an extended range. = TG

I have a question about the earth's temperature.

Since "climate change" and weather is constant and has been going on for thousands and thousands of years, I would guess since this became a planet and with or without man around my question is:

What is the absolutely BEST temerature for the earth?

We have survived and adapted when the earth was colder than it is now and also warmer than it is now.

Why does the 1 or 2 degree fluctuation over the next 100 years mean massive calamity when much larger fluctuations over the past centuries did not?

Can any scientist do some kind of utopian model about what the perfect temperature would be?

News Release
FORMER FEDERAL ETHICS COMMISSIONER FAILED TO ENFORCE RULES MANY TIMES, DOES NOT DESERVE SEVERANCE PAYMENT -- NEXT COMMISSIONER MUST HAVE STRICT ENFORCEMENT ATTITUDE AND EXPERIENCE

Thursday, April 5, 2007

OTTAWA - Today, Democracy Watch welcomed the recent resignation of federal Ethics Commissioner Bernard Shapiro, whom Democracy Watch took to court in September 2005 because of his extremely weak enforcement attitude and record (the case has been on hold since April 2007 awaiting a hearing on a preliminary motion by the Ethics Commissioner -- September 29, 2005 news release about the court application).

Given that he resigned and given his very poor performance, Democracy Watch does not believe that the Ethics Commissioner deserved any severance payment, and called on the federal government to confirm that no payment has been made.

Democracy Watch also called on the federal Cabinet immediately to approve the “Conflict of Interest Act” sections of the so-called “Federal Accountability Act” (FAA) and to establish the promised Public Appointments Commission to ensure a merit-based search process for the new Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner.

And, as soon as possible, the key ethics rules deleted by the FAA that require public officials to be honest and to avoid apparent conflicts of interest must also be added to the Act, and the corrupting provision that allows the Commissioner to give secret advice must be removed.

Ninetieth anniversary of the German SPD voting for war
August 4, 1914, and its consequences
By Peter Schwarz
6 August 2004

This Wednesday marked the ninetieth anniversary of the most fateful date in the history of German social democracy. On August 4, 1914, the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) fraction in the German parliament voted in favour of war credits enabling German imperialism to go to war. With the notorious statement of its chairman Hugo Haase, “We will not desert our fatherland in its hour of need,” the SPD placed itself firmly behind Kaiser Wilhelm II and his government in what was to emerge as the bloodiest mass slaughter in human history until that time.

The vote in favour of war credits represented an unprecedented betrayal of everything the SPD stood for. The German revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg described the betrayal as follows: “Never before in the history of class struggles, since there have been political parties, has there been a party that, in this way, after fifty years of uninterrupted growth, after achieving a first-rate position of power, after assembling millions around it, has so completely and ignominiously abdicated as a political force within twenty-four hours, as Social Democracy has done.” And she concluded: “On August 4, 1914, German social democracy abdicated politically, and at the same time the socialist International collapsed.”...-

There is no "perfect" temperature. Its all relativism. You can only define an optimum temperature for a given set of circumstances/needs. Us and all the other critters have evolved and been selected for our adaptibility to, amongst other things, temperature ranges that we have experienced over the very long haul. The variability of form in us and the other critters is indicative of this adaptiveness. Compare the phenotypes of Arctic dwellers and Africans, for clues as to successful selection criteria.

The fact that we are able to live in Canada all year around is evidence of the outcome of that selection process. Physiologically, the human body cannot live in Canader, eh, all year around, all by itself.

What the gorebull warmers are trying to do is create a museum: fix an environment in time and space, because, in their limited view, where we are now is where we ought to to be. What they don't get, is that we are constantly in transition, as are all other species, and must be so, in order for us to survive as a species. This requires the constant application of environmental stressors. This is why extinctions are meaningless (and when "they" talk about extinctions, "they" are invariably talking about subspecies, not full species. Subspecies are either/or nature's divergent experiments within a species, or our pigeonholing. Some subspecies will blossom on the evolutionary tree. Many will simply fail).
Our adaptiveness allows us to seek a successful temperature (success being measured only in fecundity), or modify the environment to maintain fecundity (=ability to reproduce - everthing else is gravy). When the temperature exceeds our adaptibility long enough to reduce our fecundity to a critical point, then sayonara.
The temperature increases predicted by the IPCC will have no significant effect on our fecundity, regardless of the weather. We may lose a few individuals living in barely tolerable environments (relative to the temperature), but there will be no significant change to our survivability as a species, although you could argue that such a stressor and its consequences may in fact benefit us by removing some of the gentically intolerant.

Perfect temperature for me is about 70 deg F., with a light breeze, and about 30% cloud cover.
