When the concept of "multiculturalism" was introduced to Canadians, most assumed it meant "more pavilions at Folkfest".
Vijay Sappani has a warning for Stephane Dion;
This riding has a strong population of people from Bangladesh and Pakistan and they are active in the riding. The group that holds the key to the results will be the Tamil groups. We are going to put full resource to secure this seat. There is also a rumour/discussion about an appointment. The biggest issue is that an appointment for a female candidate will be seen as an move against Tamils. There is a possibility that M.Simson or someother female candidate might be appointed. They are all credible candidates and deserve an appointment.Do I have a problem with it? NO, but let Dion have a good answer when he is coming out to ask support from the Hindu and Tamil groups.Posted by Kate at March 28, 2007 6:08 PMI have nothing to say about appointments and just that what I told Jim Goetz yesterday; Dion will become un popular if he decides to appoint against ethnic communities, especially the Tamils and Hindus. There is already some outcry about Dion and visible minorities. I agree Dion ‘won’ on his 1/3rd seats for women promise, but he cannot be seen being against visible minorities. The issue is that he is not against VM’s but he is seen that way and our joker friend Harper is a crapper who doesn’t care but has positioned himself as a supporter of visible minorities.
Long story short that I will repeat a zillion times; don’t take the visible minority votes for granted, I don’t speak for them but I am one of them and if you know me well, you know in what authority I’m saying this.
Probability of a middle-aged, middle-class, grey-haired, white guy getting the "liberal" nomination in this riding? zippo
How bout that east Montreal riding where what's his name is said to be running? Oh yeah, he's young, rich, connected and a Trudeau.....lay yer bets
Posted by: aj in calgary at March 28, 2007 6:21 PMWhat a piece of work this Sappani character is:
"Support and respect have to be mutual, I”m a Liberal because I know if the Liberals were not in power for most of last century in Canada, Sikhs would not be able to wear turbans in the parliament, Muslims would not be able to wear the burka, same sex couple would be behind bars and we would have never had the charter.Never! My freedom of expression was given by the Liberal and will be protected ONLY by the Liberals. So before you pick the phone to complain with me, just realize that maybe I have more reasons to be Liberal than you are and just have the answer to big question. Why there are no Hindu’s or Tamils in the Liberal Caucus and what are you doing to address that issue? Adios, got to go now, time for work. More later tonight."
How about making just the tiniest bit of effort to become Canadian, eh, Vijay?
Posted by: gordinkneehill at March 28, 2007 6:29 PMIf this is an example of the Liberal in Canada then the sooner that party is reduced to five seats in the House the better.
His comments are contradictory, simplistic and also, threatening. Are those qualities what we want within a government?
This is an example of multiculturalism, which ignores and rejects that we are first and above all, Canadians. Instead, multiculturalism insists on defining people as members of distinct ethnic groups, whose social and political agenda is to garner political favours for themselves, to achieve political power for that group - all in competition with other groups, be they ethnic, gender, visible minorities or whatever.
Not once was there any mention of working for Canada and Canadianness. Not once was there any hint of our commonality as citizens of this country. Instead, the focus was strictly on empowering various ethnic groups at the expense of other groups.
Indeed, the attribtutes of these groups, as mentioned, was a focus on their distinctive identity (turbaned Sikhs, veiled women, SSM). Nothing to do with their commonality as human beings and as Canadian citizens. Nothing.
That's what multiculturalism has done. Set up closed isolate groups competing with each other for special rights and power - ignoring any commonality and shared identities. Ignoring Canada and Canadianness.
Old Vijay moderates his comments, don't expect too
many to see the light of day.
For that reason, I reproduce mine here.

Vijay says... "My freedom of expression was given by
the Liberal and will be protected ONLY by the Liberals."
Yup… the liberals will pander to the ethnic communities
just like they’re somebody’s retarded little brother.
Is that what you really want… to ride on the little bus
for the rest of your life?
See Vijay… in my Canada, people identify themselves as
Canadians first. And you get ahead on merit… not because
of your religion or ethnicity.
Fair enough?

Ooooofff...
Can you imagine if this was a quote from anyone Conservative?
Good eye, Kate. I've been reading that guys blog for a while now and there's plenty more of where that came from:
"In my own experience during my immigration days here I found something good about K. He gets things done. Period. Many MP’s were telling me what they have done for me to resolve the stupidly tangled issue with my immigration, but nothing happened. Jimmy told me exactly what to do, to get it done(because of the imcopetence of CIC) and Lo! it was done and I got my papers. So as much as people think that he is a bully, the reason why he has so much support with ethnic’s is that he doesn’t bullshit and get things done, unlike most other classy MP’s , who have class, but no action."

Damn those classy law-abiding MPs!

OK then try this- probability of a female hindu or tamil getting nominated (because we know the lieberals are so politically correct)-infinity anyone?
Chances of a black SOW lesbian getting nominated-pretty darn good.
Lets just say I am really looking forward to the next general election with a competent Conservative leader and the lieberals, dips, traitors and greens in total disarray.
Posted by: Cascadian at March 28, 2007 7:00 PMI guess Vijay hasn't seen the latest slap on the wrist from the UN given to Canada. We are no longer to use the words 'visible minorities'! At first I thought that is because us white folk are now the 'visible minorities' in Canada. I would like to think the UN meant this as a derogatory term--ie--they are not Canadians, they are visible minorities first and foremost. But,since this is a favorite word of the Liberals I guess we can ignore that directive? Seems Vijay still clings to the word? If he is an example of what immigrants think of being Canadian then we are finished as a country--we are, or soon will be, a country of ghettos--with each ethnic group vying for control of Parliament. He is a true Liberal--ability does not enter into the picture--your ethnicity is the only important part of your existance. Thanks to multiculti Liberals this is us--we are doomed!

Posted by: Ross at March 28, 2007 7:31 PMI want to hear him repeat this a zillion times!
As he promised.
Or is he just full of crap?
Didn't I read a while back that the UN recently chastised Canada for using the term "visible minority" in public policy documents, which - you have to chuckle -- is now considered racist.
Well, they had to have something to say to Canada!
"I guess Vijay hasn't seen the latest slap on the wrist from the UN given to Canada. We are no longer to use the words 'visible minorities'!:
Guess that makes Vijay a racist :)
A Liberal wants preferential treatment based on his race and/or ethnic origins. So-called "Canadian values" at work, no doubt. This plays into the Liberal goal of shattering Canada into a thousand multiculti pieces until only they know how to hold it together. Trouble is, Stephen Harper is very adept at playing their game.
Posted by: Richard Ball at March 28, 2007 7:53 PMTake a ride on the TTC or even the Go train - whitey is the new viz min in T.O.
The Vij-meister quotes PMSH at the top of his blog:
"You have to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from Eastern Canada; people who live in ghettos and are not integrated into Western Canadian society.”- Rt.Hon. Stephen Harper, PM of Canada."
I don't get it. Is Vij saying "damn straight," or is he a hipocrite and completely unaware?
Anyway, I hope he wins his nomination. He's loopy and would be quite entertaining.
Posted by: Mississauga Matt at March 28, 2007 7:55 PMOne thing we have in the Maritimes, is an absolute dearth of non founding peoples . We're still pretty much white, christian and french/english, or should I say english/french ?
ANyway . We're more homogenous that the rest of Canada for sure...there's something to be said for being in a culture of dependency --- immigrants know there's no future in it so they stay away .
in the end the Maritimes will still be culturally pretty much as they have been since 1783. The ROC ? not.
send money!
Thank you .
Yo, Vijay:
"P!$$ off, @$$-wipe" is about all one can say to your racist, sexist, threatening drivel. And you'd do best to remember the word "minority". You don't run the country, and your threats really anger the rest of us who do.
Posted by: bcf at March 28, 2007 8:35 PMI'm shocked that anyone finds this shocking. Why do you think the Liberals refused to outlaw the Tamil Tigers; they kept delivering them seats. It's the same reason they opposed the terror measures THEY put into law. To "pay off" the people who put Borat Dijon on his throne. But you can't point out the obvious or they will throw a tantrum.
Posted by: Boomer at March 28, 2007 8:35 PMAll the more reason for people outside of Toronto or Montreal and Vancouver to not vote liberal. Let them elect a few non white, non english/french speaking immigrants and no one else. How long will true liberals put up with this. In ridings where a liberal has not won or come close for years, don't vote liberal to give them 1.75/vote.
Pretty difficult for dion/kennedy to say no deal was struck with certain groups to win the leadership to vote against the terrorism bill.
Nice to know iggy and rae could not be bought off. Dion stole the leadership, Holland steals confidential papers, liberals stole millions re adscam. How long before real liberals decide to break with the dionistas and form a brand new party, aka Reform and ADQ.
why would good ol vejay's attitude surprize anyone, the Ities (Italians) have been praticing this sort of nonsense for over 40 years
some who are born here call themselves italians, not even italian-kanadians
"The biggest issue is that an appointment for a female candidate will be seen as an move against Tamils."
Dang! And they accuse Conservatives of being anti-feminist. I'd just love it if Vijay baby could get on the front page of the Toronto (Red) Star saying stuff like this. Woo hoo!
Hey Tamils! Welcome to Canada, where chicks have rights too. Get used to it, you sorry sons of ...
What is the common draft animal of Tamil country anyway? Goat? Yak? Aardvark? Wart hog? Well whatever it is, you boys are its sons. And its damn disappointed too.

I don't care. There are people here who read from work computers.
Have a good trip.
Actually, this Vijay character is pretty stupid. If Dion appoints a "non-whatever" to be official candidate, who are Vijay and his "followers" going to vote for? The Greens? Ha! The CPC? Ha, given his opinion of "all things floweth from the Liberals". The NDP? Yeah, that really will see their end game through, won't it?
Like I said, Vijay is both stupid and a blusterer. Oh, and odious too. I pray that Dion appoints a fat, bald, white, third-generation Scandanavian-background candidate. Sex, uggliness and sexual proclitivity optional.
Posted by: Erik Sorenson at March 28, 2007 11:13 PMIf people like Vijay come to Canada trailing all the baggage they left in their motherland, why do they wish to stay?
We should all be concerned about Toronto and environs given the concentration of immigrants and their interest in getting involved in the government of this country. Do they fully understand our Democracy and history. What are their motives?
The Liberals have certainly done a massive brain washing job on the immigrants in that area through outright lies and fear mongering for decades.
Vijay's statements are telling that story.
Another crock immigrants will toss out is "Harper is too close to George Bush". It's about time some truth got filtered through the smog.

I thought the UN declared those words, *visible minority* against the law. Not that anyone who thinks gives a damn what the UN says about anything. They are going to have to come up with another label to be able to have special status in Canada.
I don't even know why the liberals are in a tither as to who to run in their ridings. They could have the pope run, and they will still lose.
These are perilous times, you can't have a weak indecisive leader, like Dainty Dion running the country.
Posted by: Honey Pot at March 29, 2007 8:08 AMThe Liberals just want to be in government so they do not care about Canadian values, ethics or morality.
They will go for the support of the Tamils.
Yeah, it is something that boggles my mind... Why do those, who come to Canada for better life, hate everything in Canada? I know a young fellow from India, who never stops bashing everything here. He hates food, houses, politics, climate, laws and traditions. What he does not hate is his paycheck and his car. I asked him if life was better back home and he said No in no uncertain terms. I asked him if he would ever moved back and he said perhaps, but unlikely.
Funny how they rant about how they would get beaten by the police with the sticks if someone happened back home and then call their expensive lawyers if something happens to them here.
Where's that puke smiley?
the Liberal's only want power, that is all that matters to them. They will give into anythinh if it will give them power
Posted by: Bryan at March 29, 2007 5:56 PMOkay so the "special" minorities won't let Liberals have a leader who was married to Jew. They like women in many positions, but, not 'um, in positions of 'um authority. To make certain the secret ballot was super duper secret it would certainly be better for all concerned if people could obscure their identity at the polls using cultural specific garb.
I am glad Canada accepts Chinese who seem to accept our cultural norms. I am glad Canada accepts non-muslim Africans because they seem to make great citizens in most cases. So, I am not a racist. I like white people and black people and Asian people. In my mind all races are equal.
However, I think we should be able to discriminate against cultures and religions that show a clear and ongoing pattern of seeking to bully and wear us down in order to dominate the legal, political and social landscape of the best country on earth. If the bullying doesn’t work when they are doing something nasty like keeping Jews and women “in their place” they call Canadians racists and we collapse like a cheap tent.
I wonder what anti-terrorist law they will force Dion to strike down next?
