I guess I would consider Andrew Coyne one of Canada's more reasonable columnists.

But then, it is sorta telling that many of his commenters can hold their own when discussing gov't budgets with the "high-powered" journalist.

How on earth would Taber, VanDusen, Oliver, Galloway, Boag make out ?? On ANY subject ??

I was a middleman also, back in the early 90s.

Had to threaten the Wpg free Press to get them to stop delivery. No, not even for "free". Bad for one's mental health and all that. Clogs up the incinerator. Just a waste of trees.

Did not want Frances Russel, of Michael Wilson episode, anywhere near my kids either.

Don't know anything about MSM readership in TO but I went into a local coffee shop this AM and saw an open stand full of today's Edmonton Journal saying "Free from your local coffee shop. I didn't pick one up and the clerk asked me to take one. "Why", I said, "can't you give them away?" "Yeah," said the clerk, "and the night cleaners don't like taking all that paper out to the garbage bin either".

It's all still a hunch at this point, but it's a hunch with some basis in fact. I learned many things doing the research.

Well if Gloria thinks that a hit in the polls, loosing another MP or possibly 2 to the budget and then reaching into a 7 year old garbag bin for recycled news stories constitutes a good week for the Liberals . Then I hope they have a series of good weeks just like this one before we run to the poles.

Posted by: Timothy Coderre at March 25, 2007 5:09 AM

The Liberal MP's used to line up to give up their seats for a lifetime appointment to the senate, or be President of Canada Post at $400,000 a year, Chairman of Canadian Mint at $375,000 a year,or your pick of Ambassadorships, board positions etc. etc.
Only a fool would think they didn't give up their seat for the money or weren't bribed to open up a seat.

Since this is a readers tips - I just wanted to pass along this part of a comment from a Liberal named Gayle who frequently posts on Red Tory's site and on Dark Blue Tory's site. To me, it shows the thinking of the left regarding crime.

Have at her..... by the way - she is discussing rape.

"Increasing sentences will not erase the feeling of powerlessness. Sorry to keep doing this, but this is one area where I have done a lot of research (for a paper in university). I spent some time at a sexual assault crisis centre. The counsellors there told me that they believe in the long run it is better for the victim not to report the crime, and to focus her energy on her own recovery. I will tell you something else - from my own experience I think this is sage advice, and it is advice I have given to others"

If you want to discuss it directly with her you can head over to...

http://www.darkbluetorytwo.blogspot.com/

I for one am incredulous that anyone could think this, let alone anyone in the position of assisting victims.

Did anybody catch Gerard Kennedy on QP today? Again, so rude- spewing out rhetoric; talking over everybody and, one of the absolute worst social gestures in any conversation, jabbing his finger at the other panelists.

What gives? This guy may or may not have political acumen but he absolutely is a terrible panelist. If I was the NDP or Conservatives I would refuse to send reps. on any panel with this rude person unless the moderators forbid him to interupt, talk over everyone else and hurl insults without being called to task. For example -today Kennedy inplied that Harper and the Conservatives are "against" anybody in a turban. Disgusting.

Lorraine. Say what you want about Gerard Kennedy (though I agree with you), and his "talk over you points," he has done a great service to the CPC and Stephen Harper. After all, he was the kingmaker that brought Dionsky to the head of the once proud, now humbled, LPC. Maybe he is compensating for that reality with his rudeness. He is above all, like many in his party, a hypocrite who can sling the mud real good, but gets "offended" when it gets returned. There is no credibility, and there is no point debating these thugs, their interest is not policy difference discussion, just using rhetorical traps and equivalencies, in a desperate attempt to get traction for their party and their leader.

Also, Goldy is not the man to be in these scrum discussions on QP; he's way too nice a guy.

Liberals can't stand that they are on the outside looking in, have lost access to the treasury for their patronage, and must know that the CPC has way more money to sling mud, bringing to light that the LPC hasn't changed its tactics, has moved seriously to the left under Dionsky, and finally are acutely aware that they have not repaid the millions they stole from taxpayers.

Everything they say or do is being logged, categorized, and organized in preparation for the mother of all mudslinging battles, the next federal election. It will be extra nasty because, if Harper gets his majority, they will control committees, thus information and investigations. Some Liberals will surely go to jail when this happens.

That is why they are terrified. Kennedy has done a great service to the CPC by facilitating Dionsky's leadership. The Liberal A-team has, and is, sitting this one out, waiting for the opportunity to jump back in and restore the LPC to its natural governing steady state. Are they concerned about CPC majority? Quite likely they are, and evidence of that will be if they get involved in the mudslinging in next election. For now, Sheila Copps wonders if Harper's "bullying" will hurt him in the end.

I'm loving every minute of this, watching Liberals hoisted on their own petard.

Agree with Lorraine re Kennedy. If I were on a panel with him I'd get up and leave him to it, it would make a dramatic statement on a TV program like QP with twit Taber and past his best by date, Oliver.

Shamrock, you're right when you say he did the Conservatives a favor by swinging with Dion.
He also put himself out of contention as a credible politician, the guy is nothing but an obnoxious spin master afflicted with verbal diarrhea. He has a lot in common with his leader, the more we see of him the worse it is for the Liberals.

Implying that Harper and Conservatives are against anybody in a turban can only be categorized as
pure vitriolic slime coming from a desperate person.

Source Of Hot European Summers Determined

Source of hot European summers determined

PALAISEAU, France, March 22 (UPI) -- French-led research suggests shortages of winter rainfall over southern Europe precede hot summers further north on the European continent.

Robert Vautard of the Pierre-Simon Laplace Institute in Palaiseau, France, and colleagues analyzed meteorological records of the past 58 years and determine dry conditions around the northern Mediterranean create a mass of anomalously warm, dry air that spreads northward during early summer.

The researchers detected the pattern while searching for previously undiscovered weather scenarios that explain heat waves, such as the one experienced by Europe in the summer of 2003.

Because dry soil inhibits convective cloud formation, the authors suggest soil water contents in Europe's Mediterranean regions play a critical role in the maintenance of climate across Europe. They also found winter and early spring rainfall frequency in the Mediterranean regions correlates with summer temperature in continental Europe.

The study appears in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. ...-

On Question Period Gerard Kennedy who was recently hired by Dion (obviously to make drive by smears and call people racists) fulfilled his duties this morning when he said the following about Stephen Harper.

"Why was he picking on people that wear turbans, that look different?"

It was only as recent as last week that Dion was whimpering and accusing Harper of drive by smears and it turns out Dion has hired someone full time to do that for the Liberal party. It was a questionable accusation of Harper but Kennedy leaves no doubt in his smear of Harper and his racist accusation.

Grits chew on nutty rhetoric

By EZRA LEVANT
[...]

According to the Geneva Conventions, the Red Cross has the right to visit prisoners of war. But Article 4 of the Third Geneva Conventions is clear: Terrorists are not considered prisoners of war, and are not entitled to the same legal courtesies as soldiers who are part of a chain of command, wear a uniform, and bear arms openly. Taliban terrorists don't meet those tests. But don't tell that to the Liberal Party of Canada, who pressed the government at length.

After a few rounds of that, Prime Minister Stephen Harper shot back. "I can understand the passion that the leader of the Opposition and members of his party feel for the Taliban prisoners. I just wish occasionally they would show the same passion for Canadian soldiers."

The Liberals exploded in a splutter of rage. Insults in Parliament are generally ignored, but this one hurt because it rang true. Nothing that Harper could say would prove that truer than the Liberal reply, though. [...]

Coderre's reply shouldn't come as a surprise. Last summer, he marched in a rally in Montreal opposing Israel's war against Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.

Coderre proudly marched along with many waving Hezbollah flags -- a group that is officially a criminal organization in Canada. More recently, he engaged in a smear campaign against Rick Hillier, the chief of Canada's defence staff. Coderre should look at his party's title more carefully -- they're supposed to be Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition. ...-
