Arthur Fonzarelli, Call Your Office

Are we close to a global warming "jump the shark" moment? I don't know, but when national newspapers devote their pages to polar bear photo copyright controversies, I'd say the time is approaching...

And now Gore, Suzuki and Dion are into 'Trick Photography' !! What's next !!??

Using falsified temp graphs ?? Already done that.

Hollywood hype ?? Done that to.

Fear mongering like a Preacher ?? Daily.

Preaching to the converted ? Dion emceed last night.

Use state sponsored fear mongering ?? Suzuki/CBC.

Do as I say, not as .. ?? Tennesee power waste.

Don't comit to anything ?? Senator Inhofe already cornered him yesterday.

Play the role of God, the savior ?? Daily.

Well, then, just outright lie ?? You guessed it.

Out of ammo.

I had my back to the TV but swear I heard a CPC Member answer a question about the environment with a quote from Dr. FruitFly!

Alas, being from Montreal, I don't know what "jump the shark" means.

What i do know is that GW hysteria is running out of steam.

However, I need a 25 m rise in sea level if I'm ever to have a beachfront property, so I count on all SDA aficionados to maximize their carbon outputs.

I doubt that this will get me my beach, but it's called the "precautionary principle".

So just do it!

What kind of an idiot bought into that Bear tale in the first place? Oh yeah the would be Enviro - Mental - ists!

BTW -I hear th manbearpig is taking up a collection to build a temple for the church of enviro-ment-ology !!

"Jumping the shark" refers to an episode on Happy Days in which Fonz jumps a shark on his motorcycle. It's considered the point at which the series began to go downhill.

So when interest in something "jumps the shark", that's what the phrase means.

An important-to-remember excerpt from a Thomas Sowell commentary, about the BBC documentary "The Global Warming Swindle":

Academics who jump on the global warming bandwagon are far more likely to get big research grants than those who express doubts — and research is the lifeblood of an academic career at leading universities.

If we're going to be following the money with regard to this issue, we might as well follow all the money.

Also, Prof. Sowell mentions in his column that one of the scientists that is incorrectly listed as a "supporter" of the AGM hypothesis has threated to sue a pro-AGM publication if his name isn't removed from their list of AGM supporters.

I think the proper name is The Charismatic Church of Cataclysmic Climatology Inc.

Although, I must admit I was impressed that Stephane "stood politely by" in the presence of the Goracle.

Ahhh...how different the world might have been.

sarc off.

That said...we have achieved peak snake oil. It's all downhill fro here for AG, DS and SD et al. Even the Fonz couldn't sustain this level of hype.

Gore should get the hell back to Tennessee and try his luck spoofing from his own back yard. We've caught onto him and expect the rest of the world is slowly waking up to his phony escapades. We have our own whack nuts to deal with, Suzuki and Moe Strong et al.

The CPC is playing it right. They're working to clean up our air, that's reasoned thinking.
They have to get on the same page as the fools to lead them off in the right direction when the facts present themselves and the Charlatans are exposed.

Kate

For the sake of journalistic accuracy and the memory of the great Arthur Fonzarelli, I must point out that the Fonz jumped the penned shark on water skis. Although he did wear his leather jacket!

:0)

You missed the money quote. ""It's just too cute to be true," Mr. Simard said. "You have to keep in mind that the bears are not in danger at all. It was, if you will, their playground for 15 minutes, you know what I mean? This is a perfect picture for climate change, in a way, because you have the impression they are in the middle of the ocean and they are going to die, with a Coke in their hands. But they were not that far from the coast, and it was possible for them to swim... They are still alive and having fun."
In other words, nothing wrong with lieing to get what you want.

Posted by: mark at March 23, 2007 1:12 PM

Ah, you're right. I even saw that episode, but the motorcycle barged right into my comment, anyway.

I got home two days ago from my third season of running the winter ice road from Tibbet lake, NT. to Contwoyto, NU. Last season was the warmest in 60 years, if you call minus 30 degrees celius warm. This year was much colder than normal, does that mean global warming is over? Maybe we are back into "global cooling"?

People have to quit flying off the handle every time we have a warm day.

JLC,

here is the website, entertainment driven.

http://www.jumptheshark.com/index.jspa

and here, once agian is the scene that started it all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpraJYnbVtE

and here is Henry Winkler being interviewed about the phenomena

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QiOJKptsz0&mode=related&search=

Yup....I think AGW may well have jumped the shark. Of course jumping the shark doesnt mean it is over or gone....just that the trend is now downhill.....we will have to live with AGW mania for at least this summer and through hurricane season...maye 2....but you cant keep this full throated yell going forever.

Posted by: Stephen at March 23, 2007 1:33 PM

Ya I hate it when Gore tries to play God. if God didn't want us to have global warming, then why would he drive a pick-up truck???

Posted by: Jebus at March 23, 2007 1:40 PM

The story was of interest to me, although that's probably because I make thousands each year from my inventory of images. I tend to take intellectual property protection rather seriously as a result.

Posted by: Sean at March 23, 2007 2:15 PM

Not only that, but there's a website dedicated to identifying when all TV shows have jumped the shark.

Posted by: Shane O. at March 23, 2007 2:29 PM

Thanks for explanation, Kate - I thought it must be some kind of Saskatchewan thing (not that there's anything wrong with that).

As usual, you're right.

Keep up the good work, Kate.

As a 63 year-old ex-socialist, I think you're amazing

"If the state of Florida [which cost Mr. Gore the 2000 election] counted votes with the same precision as the Academy [which awarded Mr. Gore the Oscar for best documentary], we would live in a very different world today," Mr. Dion said."

And if the backroom maneuvering, bribery, armtwisting, and blackmailing, which happens before Oscar is awarded, went on in politics, we'd have......?

What a stupidly naive statement by a man who has no business trying to run a Country. Do us all a favor, Mr.Dion, and go back to the University where your potential for perpetrating a disaster is limited.

Even grade sixers know Al Gore is a flake.

"A new poll suggests most Canadians believe climate change is a reality, but people in various regions hold widely different attitudes — with Albertans expressing the most skepticism."

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/2007/03/22/environment-poll.html

It would have to be Alertans. Is it the fumes from the oil clouding their brains or the altitude?

Posted by: albatros39a at March 24, 2007 3:29 AM

Just a thought. If Dion or some big name Liberal or leftist where killed by a polar bear. Maybe Suzuki or a Trudeau. Just like The crocodile man was with a mature. Would the liberal hordes start killing them as well, as did Irwin’s fans in Australia?

Perhaps the cuteness factor would rule that out? Naw, they would be enemies of socialism! A crime that cannot be forgiven, even for our brothers in fur.
