Canada told not to use term 'visible minorities'
UN watchdog calls words 'racist,' but offers no alternative

UNITED NATIONS - Canada's use of the term "visible minorities" to identify people it considers susceptible to racial discrimination came under fire at the United Nations yesterday --for being racist...

...Other highlights of the report include a call for Canada to provide welfare to illegal immigrants and failed refugee applicants; an expression of concern about "racial profiling" and a recommendation that Canada pass laws to prevent Canadian transnational companies from trampling on the rights of indigenous peoples overseas...

You guys should know about this. Jennifer Ditchburn had an article on the tory criminal justice platform the other day which was on CTV news' main webpage, and was still on their politics page as of last night. It seems to me like it's a smear piece, which she seems to be fond of when it comes to the tories. She wrote a lot of SOW and CCP articles that didn't look kindly on the CPC. Anyways, the main point is, she quotes a Liberal Attorney and and U of T criminologist, who defecates all over the Tories. Turns out, this supposedly objective Criminologist, Anthony Doob, donated five hundred bucks to his local NDP candidate's campaign in the last election. Hardly an objective source. I found this info out in less than five minutes; why didn't ditchburn check? Maybe she wasn't interested in it? For what reason? Contact the CP and voice your displeasure at this bias. Millions of Canadians have read her article and don't know that they're hearing about the Tory criminal Justice platform from Liberal and NDP mouthpieces.

Is it me or has the Media made a flip flop on Dion?
Todays G&M has Former Liberal Enviroment Min. Stewart now coming out & stating that Dion was against Kyoto at the Cabinet table.
Dion seems to be getting alot of bad press of late, while we see The PM getting favourable.
For Example
The PM's interview on TSN at the Briar was exellent, Hamilton Spectator had a pretty good article on him being there.

Program alert from CTS Television website-

"Coren and Guests to Challenge Jacobovici and Cameron’s Jesus Tomb Claim

Is Jesus in heaven or was his body left behind on earth? Michael Coren and guest Dr. Craig Evans, Professor of New Testament Studies at Acadia Divinity College and author of the new book “Fabricating Jesus” will challenge this controversial topic on CTS Television’s “The Michael Coren Show” tonight.

Brought on by the contentious claims of Simcha Jacobovici, award-winning documentary maker along with producer James Cameron of “Titanic” fame, this topic made headlines last week with the announcement Jacobovici had found the tomb of Jesus Christ. The tomb contained ossuaries or boxed remains that the couple of filmmakers claim contain the bones of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, their son Judah and other family members. The pair’s documentary entitled “The Jesus Family Tomb” aired on The Discovery Channel last Sunday March 4th.

“By bringing the producer together with an accredited antiquities expert, we aim to cast some light on whether this is potentially historical fact or a well conceived hoax,” says Coren producer Dave Wilson.

Listen to controversy in motion as Coren and Evans discuss this new development in archaeology, tonight (Thursday March 8th) at 8:00pm - only on CTS."

I'm an anglo and I totally agree that it is time that the term "visible minority" be dispensed with - the sooner the better. It strikes me, and has for a long time, as a very negative label. I'm very keen to hear pov's from people who would presently be considered to be in this group. In another sense, this label has been given much to much precedence in the name of equal opportunity employment/promotions - particularly for all things governmental - at the expense of competence. In so doing it is increasing the extreme political correctness mode we find ourselves in rather than trying to mitigate it.

I can only try to imagine how people feel who came to Canada decades ago and gave up their homeland citizenship to become Canadian (before the liberals totally screwed this up to create the "cool" concept of hyphenated Canadian).

I can only try to imagine how the children of these people who are born/raised in Canada must feel inwardly when they hear this term being used/see it in print/and have to deal with it as regards employment applications as well as in all manner of government documents.

Firing in Ft. Mac

This is just now coming up on the Rutherford talk show.

Apparently the person is fluent in French, not English, and couldn't pass a "certification test" of some kind.

Perhaps now people will come to understand just what Law S-3 is and what the ramifications are for this law in Alberta.

This is Alberta. The functional language is English and if a person is not comfortable in English, then there are other parts of Canada that will no doubt suit there needs better.

QC has used Law 101 to protect the French language - now it is time for Alberta to look at using the Nothwithstanding Clause to protect the use of English - just as QC used this tool to allow their 101.

I find this very interesting since the "Jesus Tomb" hypothesis put forward in the film not only contradicts Christianity, but it contradicts the major Muslim teachings as well. As I understand it, there are 2 major Muslim theories:

1) Substitution - Jesus wasn't crucified, rather someone took his place and died on the cross while God took Jesus bodily up to heaven (similar to Elijah). According to this there would be no bones to find.

2) Swoon theory - Jesus didn't actually die on the cross, he fainted & the Romans just thought he was dead. He was later revived in the tomb and, according to the major adherents of the theory, lived out the rest of his days in Kashmir. According to this burial in Jerusalem would not fit at all.

Trouble with the term 'visible minorities'is that you don't know what it means. Not long ago on a bus in TO I was the only person who was a shade of pink . . . everyone else was tan to black. Same thing when visiting a shopping mall in Richmond B.C. I don't think the term is particularly discriminatory -- I just think it is too relative to be meaningful.

Let me try this just one more time...

We asked: Who is Anthony Doob?

If any of you read jennifer Ditchburn's article the other day regarding the Tory criminal justice platform, you'll know already that it was a fairly biased hit piece. What you might not know is that Ditchburn chose a U of T criminologist named Anthony Doob for her interviews/quotes, who thoroughly defacted on the Tory criminal justice platform. She also chose to quote from a Liberal Attorney. What you might be very interested in finding out is that Anthony Doob is no objective source on law and order - I searched and Found out that Anthony Doob donated five-hundred dollars to his NDP candidate in the last federal election. That's a lot of moolah. Did Ditchburn choose Doob as her source, knowing full well that he has partisan affiliations? Did she even bother to check? It took me five minutes to find out. What's her excuse?

When your articles are being read by millions of Canadians who assume that your sources are objective, it would be prudent to ensure they are correct in their assumptions.

Northwest pilot from rural Glyndon alleges 9/11 cover-up

West Central Tribune | March 6, 2007
Steven Wagner

Field McConnell is convinced the 9/11 terrorist attacks are being covered up.

The Northwest Airlines pilot from rural Glyndon, Minn., said a second attack is imminent and conspirators already have aborted their plan once this year.
Those beliefs prompted him to begin writing for a Web site where like-minded people gather and to file a lawsuit in Fargo's federal court to expose an alleged conspiracy.

The lawsuit, filed last week, claims Boeing Co. and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) can't assure him that B747-400 planes are safe. McConnell, who is the process of seeking an early retirement from Northwest, claims the planes are rigged by Boeing and can be remotely detonated.

It's GW's fault: "...remove Israel as the prime source of conflict in the Middle East."

Bill Clinton On the New Middle East

It's not often that Bill Clinton gets to agree with the Belmont Club. That's a joke of course. In reality he probably doesn't realize this site exists, so it was slightly unsettling to read this in the San Diego Union-Tribune. " In a speech to the United Jewish Federation of San Diego County's 70th anniversary dinner, Clinton, who tried and failed to broker such an agreement during his presidency, said a new dynamic had emerged in the region since he left office: that Sunni Arab states have come to fear Iran more than they do Israel."

In the Middle Eastern NATO, I wrote:

There are moments when I am tempted to believe that Operation Iraqi Freedom achieved what diplomats have failed to accomplish for nearly 60 years: remove Israel as the prime source of conflict in the Middle East. Sometimes fancy takes me further, and it seems possible that the invasion of Iraq has so absorbed the region by bringing to the surface their latent rivalries that America and the West have receded as targets.

How about that for coincidences. Danged. Now, if only I could get a hundred thousand dollars to say what I already said it would be a sweet deal. Then Clinton goes on to produce another coincidence....-

QUEBEC (CP) - Parti Quebecois Leader Andre Boisclair says he is hurt that one of his candidates is disputing facts and figures of the genocide that took place in Rwanda.

Robin Philpot, who is running in a Montreal-area riding, has written a book challenging the consensus that at least 500,000 Tutsis were killed by Hutu militias in Rwanda in 1994. ...-

robertbollocks -- I think you are being unnecessarily hard on Margaret Trudeau. Of the various Trudeaus, I find her to be one of the more palatable. Also, I think that those suffering from mental health problems appreciate having "stars" to identify with . . . just like everyone else. Good for Margaret. It think she's had to deal with a lot of crap.

Has farmer Ed Stemach just dropped a $200 million Carbon Tax on Alberta today?

Assuming industry can't magically reduce it's GHG intensity by 12% before July 2007, according to my calculations that's 109.5 million tonnes of CO2 (2004 numbers) * 12% * $15/tonne - roughly $200 million.

See here for the source of the Alberta CO2 numbers.

I guess we will find out just what some of this really means.

Harper drops in with the sleigh loaded with $155M - this after dropping $1.5 Billion in Ontario and at least $1.5 Billion in QC (with no doubt more to go there). Supposedly this is AB's share of the eco bundle when our population is about 3M

The last time I checked, the population in Ontario is probably in the neighborhood of 7-8 Million with Quebec somewhat less.

$155M times about 3 is something less than $500M - and this is being generous. Perhaps something is failing in my AB calculator but on first look - this doesn't seem to wash.

Water Vapor Rules
the Greenhouse System

Just how much of the "Greenhouse Effect" is caused by human activity?

It is about 0.28%, if water vapor is taken into account-- about 5.53%, if not.

This point is so crucial to the debate over global warming that how water vapor is or isn't factored into an analysis of Earth's greenhouse gases makes the difference between describing a significant human contribution to the greenhouse effect, or a negligible one.

Water vapor constitutes Earth's most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect (4). Interestingly, many "facts and figures' regarding global warming completely ignore the powerful effects of water vapor in the greenhouse system, carelessly (perhaps, deliberately) overstating human impacts as much as 20-fold.

Water vapor is 99.999% of natural origin. Other atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and miscellaneous other gases (CFC's, etc.), are also mostly of natural origin (except for the latter, which is mostly anthropogenic).

Human activities contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from natural sources we can do nothing about, that even the most costly efforts to limit human emissions would have a very small-- perhaps undetectable-- effect on global climate.

The Kyoto Protocol calls for mandatory carbon dioxide reductions of 30% from developed countries like the U.S. Reducing man-made CO2 emissions this much would have an undetectable effect on climate while having a devastating effect on the U.S. economy. Can you drive your car 30% less, reduce your winter heating 30%? Pay 20-50% more for everything from automobiles to zippers? And that is just a down payment, with more sacrifices to come later.

Such drastic measures, even if imposed equally on all countries around the world, would reduce total human greenhouse contributions from CO2 by about 0.035%.

This is much less than the natural variability of Earth's climate system!

While the greenhouse reductions would exact a high human price, in terms of sacrifices to our standard of living, they would yield statistically negligible results in terms of measurable impacts to climate change. There is no expectation that any statistically significant global warming reductions would come from the Kyoto Protocol.

The fact that he would take something as inocuous as a puppy and try to use even THAT as some sort of political thing shows jsut how unlike the average Canadian he is. Liberals paint leader as a slacker on the green file
Don Martin in Ottawa, National Post
Published: Friday, March 09, 2007

A strange gang attack on Stephane Dion's credibility is under way -- and it's not coming from the Conservatives.

It's a leadership pile-on by old Liberal heavyweights, a trio painting or tainting their new leader as one of the slackers in a former government of environmental foot draggers.

Very odd. It's like the Conservative attack ads, which hit the bull's eye because they used Mr. Dion's own words against him. But this is a Liberal party record being scratched by senior Liberals suddenly remorseful over failing to kickstart Kyoto for faster action on greenhouse gas reduction. ...-

What the man said

A reader alerts us to this excellent interview with Dr. S. Fred Singer, coauthor (with Dennis Avery) of Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years. Here is a small portion of the interview, on the failure of climate models to account for the past and on the alleged need to "do something" now:

Excerpt:

For what? All the Kyoto Protocol would do is to slightly reduce the current rate of increase of carbon dioxide. And in fact, the UN Science Advisory Group has published their results. And they clearly show that the Kyoto Protocol would reduce, if it went into effect and were punctiliously observed by all of the countries that have to observe it -- by the year 2050, -- about 50 years from now -- it would reduce the calculated temperature increase by .05 degrees Centigrade. That amount is not even measurable. So this is what you are being asked to buy. ...-

Shocking Facts about Sea Level Rise
Filed under: Sea Level Rise —

One of the pillars of the global warming scare is that sea level is rising, the rise is accelerating due to ever higher global temperatures, and in the absence of some immediate policy to curb emissions of greenhouse gases, the sea level rise will inundate islands and coastlines throughout the world. Who could ever forget seeing the World Trade Center Memorial under water in Gore’s blockbuster movie? In addition, no fewer than 1.4 million websites are found if you search “Global Warming and Sea Level Rise.” Many would be shocked to find anyone daring to question accelerated sea level rise, and yet, as covered many times before in World Climate Report, the scientific literature is full of surprises when it comes to global warming and sea level rise. How many would believe that global sea level actually dropped for a period in the mid-to-late 1990s?

Well, it is true, and an article in the recent issue of Geophysical Research Letters provides some shocking news for those who never question the accelerated sea level rise axiom. ...-
