Don't Know Whether to Laugh or Cry

I'm sure a lot of people have seen this one ... but I just discovered it and thought you may find it ... interesting (to say the least):

In Afghanistan girls aren’t supposed to play music or sing songs. But 25-year-old Nargiz didn’t care. She started the Burka Band, the first Afghan girl band ever. “Blueee, burka blue,” sings the lead singer on the tv, while another woman plays the drums and a third the guitar. The three girls make small dancesteps and swing the microphone as you would in any other girl band.

I saw that a month ago. I thought it was a joke. If not, then they are making avery effective point.

God, that looks like a science fiction movie. They look like outer space creatures.

Next Attraction: Burkas coming next door to you.

Oh joy!

I couldn't figure out if this is a hoax or the real-deal ... so I just posted it for you folks to chew on.

Sounds sorta like the Tom Tom Club. And I hated the Tom Tom Club.

Well, I see this as akin to a dog singing jazz or suchlike: I don't criticize the performance so much as marvel that it happens at all.

Assuming it's legit, of course!

How can the Taliban fight that?

It's a farce of course. The drummer has the shoulders of a male.
That's the problem, how the hell can anyone know
for sure what's beneath all that cloth?
If they're for real, they may be headless by now, that kind of rhythm is dangerous.

...what's wrong with a Tom Tom club? I always wanted a fan club and 15 minutes of fame...

;-)

And their latest hit release: a love song for Taliban Jack, "Losin' My Head Over You".

I emailed it to a few friends last week.

Might as well get canadians ready for the future if Harper keeps upping immigration.
