Oh goodie.
I've collected some conservative responses at my blog. If you Google News the appropriate words, you'll see lots and lots of stories about this incident. No surprise.
You'll uncover far fewer about Obama's slave owning ancestors (take THAT, Thomas Jefferson!), his "I don't care how poor you are" statement to a campaign stop crowd, or the fact that Al Gore buys his carbon offsets from... his very own company.
Just for the, er, heck of it, here's a (anti-Iraq War, conservative-not-Republican) friend's take on Coulter, written before this latest incident:
Please. Don't splutter at me that she's a reckless bomb thrower. Of course she is! So was Lenny Bruce, who famously remarked of LBJ "Where's Lee Harvey Oswald when you need him?" But you know what? Bruce could be funny and perceptive, as when he remarked that the Catholic Church is the only "The Church". And Coulter's damn funny and perceptive too. Which is why she drives her ideological opponents crazy. Do I look to her for political wisdom and guidance? Of course not! But I do look at her as a fine political satirist and usually find myself laughing at her remarks, even when I know they are not what you would call accurate policy statements.
Earlier today, a Daily Gut commenter writes:
If you're going to be a bomb-thrower, at least make sure that you're using the proper ordnance and that you don't drop the blasted thing at your own feet.
(I'm obliged to add here that I've always thought of Nurse Ratched as the real hero of Cuckoo's Nest, dealing more or less patiently with all those annoying men every day, for no thanks and a crappy salary. But then, I would, wouldn't I? Watch the movie again. The last time you saw it, you watched it wrong.)

There was no 'objective' reason to use the faggot expression. None whatsoever. Edwards is admittedly a contemptable demagogue, but call him that and be done with it. This is not the first time that she has said something intentionally to create an uproar among the leftist political class.
Then what follows is billions of dollars of free publicity for Ann, her books, and her political position as she and others make the rounds of talk shows.
By the time it's over, there's been so much ink and so much discussion that Edwards and the word faggot have been used together to the point of memorialization.
So in the end Edwards and faggot become almost interchangable terms. (I preferred "the Breck Girl," myself) And Ann Coulter receives more publicity for her books, editorials, and opinions than George Soros could pay for on his best day.
Posted by: Greg in Dallas at March 3, 2007 2:17 PMGee at one time a faggot meant a bundle of sticks.
I am old enough to remember using the term
"can I bum a fag off you?". Meaning of course could I get a cigarette off yeah. We all know how distorted the term Gay became from this group of inverts took it, twisted it, than changed the meaning to one less onerous. Indeed its sounds like a party word. Just watch an old movie called the "Gay Divorce" With Fred Astaire for proof.
That certain minorities claim certain words in order to taint them or change their meanings for political advantage has become endemic. To cover up the ugly side of there Dogma laced about in inoffensive words, changed by various groups promoting there meme, is perverse. That we are called bigots because we do not conform to their usage by these distorters is absurd.
I am tired of being put on the defensive by these jugglers of jaundiced views by their slight of hand with the language. In order to refute not by logic , only emotion the stands they take by twisting the tongue of the land into an inclusive nightmare of buzz words. Invent a new word for a perversion that sounds quaint than holler bigotry when people will not play along in this mind game.
Suck lemons libs. You seeded this bed of contaminate. Live with it. I for one don’t go along with your little games anymore. Hi Joe,
yeah, this modern publicity machine is so huge and unwieldy it's not surprising that some sharp people have learned how to use it.
This is the same Anne Coulter who insisted Canada had troops in Vietnam - actual troops not those in the army who happened to be Canadian
From Wiki:
Coulter received some criticism for a statement she made on CBC television's the fifth estate, an investigative journalism program. During an interview by host Bob McKeown, Coulter said, "Canada used to be...one of our most...most loyal friends, and vice versa. I mean, Canada sent troops to Vietnam. Was Vietnam less containable and more of a threat than Saddam Hussein?" McKeown contradicted her with, "No, actually Canada did not send troops to Vietnam." After both had insisted repeatedly, the exchange ended with Coulter's saying, "Well, I’ll get back to you on that."[64] This was afterward characterised by Keith Olbermann on Countdown as an instance of "...Coulter humiliating herself on national TV...[but]...this time...on Canadian national TV."[65] On the February 18, 2005 edition of Washington Journal, Coulter sought to justify her statement by referring to the roughly 10,000 Canadians who volunteered for the American armed forces, and thus fought in Vietnam, stating:[64]
"Yes, 10,000 Canadian troops, at least. There is a War Memorial to them, at least for most of that. The Canadian Government didn't send troops [...] but [...] they came and fought with the Americans. So I was wrong. It turns out there were 10,000 Americans who happened to be born in Canada. .... I didn't believe [McKeown] because I had read about Canadian troops in Vietnam. I was right. People keep saying: "Well, he didn't tell you that they — 10,000 troops ran across to sign up with the American forces." I don't think he knew! He's a bubblehead, Ted Baxter.[65][66]
, and who has made previous outrageous statements and then said she was trying to be funny when voices of opposition were raised. I would be more comfortable if she was not used as the "voice of the right"as she tend to hurt, more than help the cause.
By the way if she wants to be shrill about something try Building 18 at Walter Reed Hospital where the generals are blaming the injured soldiers for the rats and cochroaches - a story which has been strangely avoided by many in the blogosphere.
I am no fan of extremes on either side and the likes of Miss Coulter to not help.

Well, down here in the US, you probably understand, our parties' candidates are selected by the primary process.
I won't try to describe it, as it would be easier to look it up on the internet.
The only thing that I can say that might not be obvious in Canada is that the Clintons control the primary process for the Democratic Party.
Anything the candidates say now about the opposite party is really designed to affect primary voters in their own party. Because right now, the candidates are trying to get the nomination in their own party, and what's going on in the other party is not their main focus.
Since the Clintons control the Democratic primaries, all the other Democratic candidates has better watch their backs.

Weekly Standard Scrapbook: Lefty site has 60x more profanity than FR [Free Republic]
This may or may not come as a surprise, but there's more profanity on "The Internets" than in traditional media. Lots more. The enterprising blogger Patrick Ishmael (newsbuckit.blogspot.com) did an, excuse the pun, quick and dirty analysis of the ideological divide in online trash-talking. Make that, ideological chasm. He did a Google search for comedian George Carlin's famous "seven dirty words" on popular lefty and righty blogs.
Lefty Daily Kos took top honors with 146,000 pages containing one or more of the words in question.
Its lefty competitor, The Huffington Post, was close behind with 109,000. No right-wing site reached even 10,000 on the Carlin scale.
A commenter at the site refined the methodology to account for overall site size, finding a "'7 words' to pages" ratio of "1 profanity every 2 pages" for Daily Kos and "1 every 121 pages" for the Free Republic ("the foulest" of the righty sites). The study "isn't scien tific," Ishmael warns, "but hey, it's pretty @*%#$&! close." ...-

That's a pretty good quote. Since communism doesn't exist anymore, it very neatly sums up what right-wingers are trying to do to society..."Use the courts, use the judges, use the Constitution of the country, use its medical societies and its laws to further our ends..."
Posted by: lberia at March 3, 2007 8:58 PMI think I figured you out...you're a friggin' drunk.
You've crossed a line, my friend. A big one.
Cut the name calling; and settle down. One warning is all you get.
Posted by: Paul at March 3, 2007 9:35 PMWho is more vile?
Republican Ann Coulter said this:
"I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”
Democrat Bill Maher said this:

Ann sounds pretty tame!
Posted by: Gypsy at March 3, 2007 9:46 PMIf Ann Coulter ever got a hold of the Liberal Party of Canada they would be shrieking for an apology for the next hundred years!
Posted by: Reginacon at March 3, 2007 10:02 PMIberia Go back a bit and read the last post from maz2(7:54). It is exactlly what all the "special"
interest leftey groups are doing to this country. Kick started by Peier Trudeaue and his socialist bullshit.Wake up man.
lberia: "Since communism doesn't exist anymore ..."
Are you saying that it is dead?
Posted by: ural at March 3, 2007 10:26 PMRob C:
Let's see...in the US, since 1970, the so-called left-wing had veto power for 12 out of 37 years. In Britain, Conservatives held power from 1970-1974 and 1979-1997. Canada only had 8 or so years of Conservative leadership. But you're kidding yourself if you think Chretien or Martin could even remotely be considered left-wing. So, in general, the English speaking west has had right-wing, business friendly governments for most of the last four decades.
Yet, somehow everything that has gone wrong is the fault of the left. Who the hell is running things? Special interest lefty groups? Yeah, sure! Give your head a shake.
ural:
The Red, is dead...for now. What exists is "communist" in name only.
Posted by: lberia at March 3, 2007 11:11 PMAnn Coulter,
Not the smartest woman in the world, but still pretty smart ...
She knows that 75% of people will see this comment as being pretty tame; the other 25% will respond in a much worse fashion.
You see this kind of action all the time in sports ... A player will play a little dirty against a player they know has a temper; eventually the player with the temper retaliates and gets a penalty.
Posted by: NoOne at March 3, 2007 11:41 PMAnn's just stupid, plain and simple.
Kirsten Powers demonstrate what an ignorant cow Ann Coulter really is
Coulter is an abomination to any form of civic discourse
The "point" of my post is to imply that Coulter is an ignorant, loud mouthed idiot.
Comments like this soar in intellect, superior clarity and power.
Now everybody rest, there is no more to say.
Gypsy, your observation is exactly right on, notwithstanding the comment by the person from the socialist paradise, who really doesn’t know what he is saying, merely following the Diktat of his Dear Leaders.
Ann did not say Edwards is a faggot. What she said was, I wanted to say something about Edwards. You have to go to rehab if you use the word faggot. The implication is there, but it was two distinct sentences. Wonder what the msm think when Gov Rommey got the most support in the staw vote the gathering, and McCain was #5. Guess all that talk about his religion is backfireing. Lots of LDS members in the USA to support him. As for Ann getting booted from the Nat Review, it was something she said on her new TV show which may or may not become a series with Fox. Watch the sunday talk shows in the US as I am sure this will be played over and over again.

Iberia, you didn't respond to my charge, obviously because you couldn't. Therefore the charge remains.
Calumny and ad hominem are not a defence. All you have done is proven your own ineptitude and intellectual rot. You are attempting to punch above your weight class and have been bloodied beyond repair. But like a fool, you keep coming back to be bloodied more. It seems your preferred colour isn't so much red as it is black and blue.
But I will continue to enjoy indulging you.

*Here is my comment from 5:13pm: "I did not chastize her for name calling. In fact, I have no problem with it whatsoever."
Posted by: lberia at March 3, 2007 7:22 PM
*Let me make it simple for you: I think Coulter is an idiot; I provided video examples; and, I wrote that I have no problem with her insults, because they just highlight her idiocy.
Posted by: lberia at March 3, 2007 8:58 PM
Seriously irwin, WTF is wrong with you? There is a written record of comments, why are you making things up?
It appears that you have the same problem that Coulter has...and just because you say you're right doesn't make it so.
The Truthiness in this thread is enough to make a liar do a doubletake.
Posted by: Saskboy at March 4, 2007 12:50 PM"*Iberia: So it's OK for you to call Coulter an "ignorant cow" but she cannot call Kerry a "faggot" ?"
This I quoted from another commentor. However, his assumption was right. You did not qualify your statement, leaving only one conclusion.
In response, you backpeddled in an attempt to change what you meant. I called you on it and you responded with ad hominem. None of this was "made up" other than your ungrounded and inflammatory attacks on myself.
And you continue - "It appears that you have the same problem that Coulter has..." Whatever that means.
As I said, I will continue to enjoy adding to your new colours.
Posted by: irwin daisy at March 4, 2007 1:16 PMI don't get this fixation on Ann Coulter's intelligence.
I have to say that down here in the States all this petulant screaming and denunciation of her intelligence is relegated to the immature.
We would regard this desperate attempt at demeaning her intelligence as being at the level of some 8th grade girl who thinks she should have won the spelling bee.
You know, down here someone can open a string of gas stations and become a socially prominent patron of the arts.
I regard myself as a semi-literate non-academic who has probably been hit in the head too many times.
Coulter was smart enough to get through law school, to work for a Supreme Court justice, to promote herself into the rank of prominent spokeswoman and best-selling authoress.
This might not mean that she's as bright as Einstein or Hayek or Stephen Hawkings, but you gotta figure she's a pretty bright woman.

You can't help destroying yourself can you iberia? If there's anything your comments on this thread prove, it's that you are thoroughly a hypocrite - as previously charged.
And what's this dawg? "Her line is bigger than iberia's line." A schoolyard case of na-nana-na-na? What a stunted and pathetic comment.
Both of you do not rationally argue an issue. Rather you both irrationally come here to pick fights and then lose as usual. Winning no friends, respect or consideration. Casting insults on your way out the door.
Both poster moonbats for the ignorant left. And tremendous examples for political fence sitters to flee from in the opposite direction.
Keep up the good work.
Posted by: irwin daisy at March 4, 2007 5:45 PMGypsy, the incident to which Coulter is refering is not Richards but Isaiah Washington who refered to a fellow cast member as a "little faggot." ABC forced him to go to rehab. So now we go to rehab for unpleasant ideas. Sounds like the old Soviet "psikhushka" misuse of mental health facilities.
There's a particular twist in that we have a black guy blatantly homophobic -- which used to be ok, like blacks were permitted to be antisemitic -- but I guess being a TV star removes some priveleges.
As for Coulter, a careful examination of the video shows she didn't actually call Edwards, whom I despised for his past legal work which includes channeling a fetus's thoughts in court, a "faggot." She HAD to have known, though, that what she did would cause contraversy, there being no such thing as bad publicity for an author.
