Bill Gates vs. GM
For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated,
"If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........
Twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.
I love the next one!!!
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.
Share this with your friends who love - but sometimes hate - their computer!

And just who gives money to Mr Suzuki
Toyota.
Both Japanese too.
Beacuse if global warming is man made and caused by gas. Hybrids are good.
If it isn't all that money Toyota spent on R & D could be lost and that would be bad for Japan.

Al Gore gave a talk on Manbearpig global warming last night in Toronto, and the moonbats turned out in force to worship the “Goracle.”
Yes, that’s really what they’re calling him now.
...
There were vegans seeking new recruits, people calling for the closing of Ontario’s coal-fired power plants, a Greenpeace mascot dressed as a polar bear — even the UFO believers showed up.
“I know you won’t believe this,” one of them, a man named Victor Viggiani, said with a practised tongue, “but the extraterrestrial technology involved in this . . . it’s free energy, man. Absolute free energy, and it’ll be the end of fossil fuels.”
Mr. Viggiani, a retired school principal, tried to get an information package to Mr. Gore when he arrived at a side door, but “the Secret Service were there; they saw my backpack and they pushed me away.”
Across the driveway in front of the hall, a large banner exhorted the crowd to “Heed the Goracle.” Belonging to a fledgling group called ecoSanity, it was still there hours later, as Mr. Gore enjoyed a reception at the adjacent Simcoe Hall and the dispersing crowd voiced its praise....-

After hearing a one-hour audio interview with Dore Gold (Atlas Shrugs) I was so impressed that I immediately ordered his new book, The Fight for Jerusalem (not yet received) and his earlier book, Hatred's Kingdom about the Saudi Wahhabists, which is exceptionally well-written and a must read IMHO.
Amused to read on the cover, "former ambassador to the UN" but no mention of Israel. One guesses that it was felt to be poor marketing to mention Israel as any opinion from that country would be automatically rejected. (remembering a comment once from a a**hole prof who said that when reading Letters to the Editor he always looks at the writer's name first and if it's Jewish, he skips).

BTW.. great post Maz2... hilarious item at LGF.
The Liberals oscar award winning play acting at outrage over PM Harper's attempt to read a Vancouver Sun newspaper article related to the Air India puts the hype in hypeocrits. Naveed Bains was just on CBC and although Liberal loving Suhanna was obviousdly playing in the cast of characters she DID ask (paraphrased) " The Prime dsuggested that if there were inaccuracies in the newspaper article that Bains should address this with the Vancouver Sun." HA HA - Bains skirted the entire idea. So, the outrage is misplaced. If this is not true then the Liberals should sue the Sun. If it is true then the PM had every right to read the article into the public record in Hansard.
In order for this outrage to be true there has to have been something outragous or untrue or defamatory said or written.
Do you think the Liberals will take on the Vancouver Sun?
To be fair, it is considered low to bring family into politics. Harper made a mistake, and naturally, the usual suspects are making a big ballyhoo out of it.

$14,200 in hotel expenses in Montreal for Stéphane Dion’s chauffeur
$5,550 spent on hotel/hospitality during Kyoto Conference in Montreal
OTTAWA: Access to Information documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) reveal that Stéphane Dion’s chauffeur billed taxpayers $14,225 for Montreal hotel and travel expenses. In addition, documents show during the 2005 Kyoto conference in Montreal, Mr. Dion opted to lodge at a hotel at a cost of $5,548, even though he maintains a residence in Montreal where he is the Member of Parliament for Saint-Laurent–Cartierville.
Another Limousine Liberal –
For the period July 2004 to November 2005, records show Mr. Dion’s chauffeur billed $14,225 in 98 separate expenses for trips between Gatineau (the capital region) and Montreal. The expenses include transportation costs, meals, telephone charges, etc. Review the expenses by clicking here.
“Mr. Dion is quick to lecture Canadians on the need to cut greenhouse gases yet as environment minister he opted to drive to Montreal, keep his chauffeur in the city and bilk taxpayers $14,225,” stated CTF federal director John Williamson. “Canadians have had enough of politicians instructing us to change our driving habits when the same elites, like Mr. Dion, refuse to heed their own advice. Mr. Dion should practice what he preaches, take the Ottawa–Montreal train and hail a cab when in Montreal.”
“Under the Liberals, Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions drove upwards, while Mr. Dion was driven back and forth in a taxpayer-funded government car,” noted Williamson.
Hotels in Montreal? That is Mr. Dion’s Hometown –
Other documents report that during the first Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, held in Montreal from November 28 to December 9, 2005, Mr. Dion expensed another $5,548 for hotel and hospitality expenses. The hotel was over $300 per night and a $700 room service bill was picked up by taxpayers. Review the hotel bills by clicking here.
“Despite the fact that Mr. Dion lives in Montreal he opted to stay at a hotel,” concluded Mr. Williamson. “If Mr. Dion had the interest of taxpayers at heart, he would have slept in his own bed.”

Posted by: cal2 at February 22, 2007 10:32 PMEditorial: 'Shame' on Harper? Hardly
Harper's remark about Navdeep Bains touched on what millions of Canadians are wondering themselves
Excerpt:
But even if Mr. Harper intended to suggest what he is being accused of suggesting, his only "shame" lies in saying what millions of Canadians are thinking. The Sikh voting bloc Mr. Bains dragged to the Dion camp (via Gerard Kennedy) at the Liberal convention in December is a critical reason why it is Mr. Dion, as opposed to Bob Rae or Michael Ignatieff, who now sits as Leader of the Opposition. Why would it be out of bounds to suggest that Mr. Dion's sudden and stalwart opposition to key anti-terrorism provisions -- even over the objections of many influential members of his own divided caucus -- might somehow be traced to those same provisions being potentially used to compel testimony from a close family member of a kingmaking MP?
We recall that in 2000, the Liberals used the same specious calls of "shame" to attack Reform politicians who questioned the Liberals about their party's stance on a Tamil terrorist group. Yet it was the Liberals themselves who were disgraced when it turned out Paul Martin and Maria Minna had attended a fundraising event for a group identified by the U.S. State Department as a front for the Tamil Tigers, which -- like the Babbar Khalsa outfit for which Mr. Bains' father-in-law once acted as spokesman -- is classified as a terrorist group under Canadians law (over Liberal objections, of course).
Even given the premise of Mr. Bains' personal unimpeachability -- a premise to which the Prime Minister's press secretary was glad to assent on Wednesday evening -- this may be a trickier question than it appears. The premise that a Member of Parliament's family connections are irrelevant can easily be carried to the point of absurdity. In gratitude for delivering the votes of his fellow Sikhs in Montreal, Mr. Dion appointed Mr. Bains to the party's national election readiness committee last month. If an equally important Conservative had a father-in-law who stood to benefit from a newfound Conservative policy, are we to believe that no reporter or opposition member would dare ask uncomfortable questions? No one can show that Bains' family connections to a possible Air India witness have played any part in the sudden Liberal rediscovery of civil liberties, but when did it become inappropriate for a politician to point out a potential conflict of interest amongst his opponents?
It seems to have happened right around the time the conservative parties reunited and formed a national government. We recall that some of the publications now lashing out at Mr. Harper were quite happy to wallow in "family legacies" when it came to Stockwell Day's Western-separatist father or Preston Manning's ancestral Social Credit connections. Could the apologies owed to these men have gotten misplaced in the mail? ..-

Polls hide the truth about climate change
Questions should ask what we're prepared to give up
Diane Francis, Financial Post
The zealots, and ill-informed media, have found a new "lede" to get public attention for their cause. They would have us believe it's all about capitalism and fat cats and Big Oil. But it's not.
And here are the questions I would like pollsters to ask anyone who answers that they believe that protecting the environment should be a political priority.
- Would they support a ban on cars? Cars are the real enemy of the planet.
- Or a ban on incandescent bulbs? California is considering banning them because they use four times more energy than fluorescents.
- Would they support a limit of 250 square feet or less per person in terms of residential space? Would they support a high tax on those who exceed that amount? Small residences are axiomatic to reducing energy use.
- Would they move to live within walking distance of their work or school? Would they commit to using public transport only?
- Would they move to a residence with small windows that faces toward the sun for most of the day?
- Would they give up their job if necessary? Or eating meat? Or air conditioning? Or synthetic fabrics? Or have only one child or, better yet, none?
The point of this is that the polls are incomplete, which is leading, in the case of Canada, to potentially ruinous political action and attitudes.
There's also a lot of misinformation about the Kyoto Protocol itself and Canada's responsibilities.
Canada is only 2% of a worldwide problem. Canada has absolutely no obligation to do anything that others aren't doing. Canada is the only nation that signed on to do anything. The Europeans were virtually in compliance, the Australians negotiated an increase in emissions because their economy is energy- intensive like Canada's, and the Americans refused to sign because all the world's biggest polluters such as China, India or Latin America and Africa were exempted from doing anything.
Here are more facts surrounding Kyoto:
- Barely half of the countries expected to sign Kyoto did so.
- Kyoto would have expired if the Russians hadn't signed it, and they did because Europe threatened to nix their application to the World Trade Organization if they balked.
- Very few countries have met their targets and most don't intend to, especially if it affects the economy or costs jobs.
- India and China were exempt, yet China is producing more than 50% of the carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere. China is going to build up to 500 coal-burning plants in the next 10 years. ...-
