Coincidentally, I just came from answering a comment from a pro-Obama blogger in Hollywood...
The following is a post with information on Obama I doubt we'll see in the MSM:
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2007/02/is-barack-obama-racist.html
It concerns the "church" he belongs to and its racist-sounding mission statement and declaration of values.
Will Obama be spared the leftist/MSM attacks based on his religious affiliation? GWB has never been spared; the left/MSM is eager to mention his being Christian as if it was a bad, dangerous thing.
Will the left/MSM be fair, with respect to their coverage, between the two men?
Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at February 21, 2007 4:10 PMDon't forget, Obama is just a cog in the Clinton Machine.
Shrillary wants race to be an issue...voila.....OBAMA appears! Hitlery wants "Islamophobia" to be an issue.....OBAMA is the answer! He raises the issues...and goes down in flames with them as well. All the time Hillary stays smack in the center and comes up smelling like a rose without a taint of MOONBAT on her.
Obama wouldn't even get 25% of the nation's vote. But he'll get a cabinet position to be sure. Secretary OBAMA of the newly created Ministry of Culutural Guidlines And Rules.
Posted by: Doug at February 21, 2007 4:23 PMOh, Kate - I'm going to get you for this! 27 years without a TV has left me defenseless... First viewing of Colbert, I'm hooked.
I’ve got to ask: was Dickerson serious? The argument seems to be “its not who you are, but who your parents were”. 800 years of painfully dragging civilization back out of the dust, shot...
Posted by: Tenebris at February 21, 2007 4:33 PMTwo idiots on TV. For once Colbert made some sense.
Posted by: langmann at February 21, 2007 4:34 PMColbert is hilarious.
What exactly is an "African African-American"?
Even she was confused by her reasoning.
It's 2007, forget about colour and select a candidate that best represents your party and where you envision your country in the future.
Posted by: robotchicken at February 21, 2007 4:44 PMYes, Colbert is generally unwatchable, but I'm glad I caught the show last evening.
Posted by: Kate at February 21, 2007 4:44 PMI am an African Canadian, a descendant of slaves. How proud I feel, huh!
Posted by: Aaron at February 21, 2007 4:47 PMDisturbing look at Obama's community church!

Imagine a church that used this language in it's Charter!
Wow. That was awesome. Thanks.

Jon Stewart had a similar bit on "Black History Month"...
where a black pseudo-reporter went on about, "where hundreds
of years of slavery are erased by 28 days of trivia, and frankly
we'd rather have some casinos."

Posted by: neo at February 21, 2007 5:08 PMAs Ted reminded me privately, it's not "Brent" but "Stephen" Colbert. The post has been edited to fix that error. Thanks, Ted.
Colbert is a total ass and so full of himself. He's the American Charles Adler for television.
Just ponder this remark he made for a minute or two:
"I was looking forward to voting for a black president."
Dickinson is right in that he is a racist, but of the modern chic, hip Leftist variety.
Posted by: Doug at February 21, 2007 5:23 PMThat was very funny.
Unfortunately, I took a sip of coffee immediately prior to Colbert saying "...if I was white"...
My screen will survive but the keyboard is on life support.
I'm considering NOT suing, Kate...
Posted by: Bruce at February 21, 2007 5:32 PM"Colbert is a total ass and so full of himself. He's the American Charles Adler for television."
Sounds like someone needs to watch more Colbert Report to understand that it's just a personae he's portraying. The right-wing themed Colbert Report was designed to be a foil for the left-leaning Daily Show and started from a regular "bit" on the Daily Show of Colbert acting like an O'Reilly-esque host.
Posted by: Darren at February 21, 2007 5:34 PMDoug:
sat·ire (săt'īr') n. 1. A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit. 2. The branch of literature constituting such works. See synonyms at caricature. 3. Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity. [Latin satira, probably alteration (influenced by Greek satur, satyr, and saturos, burlesque of a mythical episode), of (lanx) satura, fruit (plate) mixture, from feminine of satur, sated, well-fitted.]
American Heritage Dictionaries
satire
Artistic form in which human or individual vices, folly, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, or other methods, sometimes with an intent to bring about improvement. Literature and drama are its chief vehicles, but it is also found in such mediums as film, the visual arts (e.g., caricatures), and political cartoons. Though present in Greek literature, notably in the works of Aristophanes, satire generally follows the example of either of two Romans, Horace or Juvenal. To Horace the satirist is an urbane man of the world who sees folly everywhere but is moved to gentle laughter rather than to rage. Juvenal's satirist is an upright man who is horrified and angered by corruption. Their different perspectives produced the subgenres of satire identified by John Dryden as comic satire and tragic satire.
Encyclopedia Britannica
Satire (lat. medley, dish of colourful fruits) is a technique used in drama and the performing arts, fiction, journalism, and occasionally in poetry and the graphic arts. Although satire is usually witty, and often very funny, the primary purpose of satire is not primarily humour but criticism of an individual or a group in a witty manner.

Not to be confused with sarcasm, such as the kind with which this comment is dripping.
Posted by: Ted at February 21, 2007 5:39 PMOk, was is just me or does Ms. Dickersons "african, african american" label smack of another way of being racist towards another group of people? Since when do we label different white politicians by what they're great, great, great, great, great gradnparents experiences where?
Whos black/black whos white?? Who freaking cares, we're all people.
What I want to know is if there are any green black men or green black women running. Or black green men. Or black green women. Whatever.

a different way to look at it . who was to know it was prophecy in the making.
Posted by: cal2 at February 21, 2007 5:54 PMThanks Kate. Mr. Colbert is not one of my favourite commentariat, but I must agree, he did a fine job in this case. Note that like Cal2 I had to go to YouTube to get it to play.
Debra Dickerson is, in my opinion, an enemy of civilization. For thousands of years, civilization has, slowly and with false starts and setbacks, made incrimental progress toward eliminating irrelevant non-volitional considerations like race and gender from the judgement of individuals. Ms. Dickerson is opposed to the historic progress of civilization: she is opposed to red blood, unless it is hers or her fellow travellers'.
Posted by: Vitruvius at February 21, 2007 6:07 PMOops, pardon my confusion, the YouTube link is youtube.com/watch?v=nODHv2gxTTo
Posted by: Vitruvius at February 21, 2007 6:11 PMActually, Darren, Colbert is not a foil for Jon Stewart...he is simply parodying Bill O'Reilly and, of course, making fun of Republicans.
I find him funny but knowing that he is parodying a "correct" or "more correct" (than liberal) conservative perspective is annoying.
Posted by: Eeyore at February 21, 2007 6:20 PMpeople, colbert is a liberal doing a spoof of an o'reilly type of host. and, he's very good at it.
Posted by: allen at February 21, 2007 6:20 PM"African African-American"?
I guess you'd call it an "African2-American."
Man, when Colbert gets geared up, he's funny as Hell. I just wish he were real -- he'd be even funnier without the satire...
Posted by: Garth Wood at February 21, 2007 6:22 PMI wouldnt say I am a huge fan of Colbert, but to give credit where it's due= He knocked that one out of the park!
Posted by: ZiLLa at February 21, 2007 6:42 PMWhat about, Garth, African²/American, which reads "African squared over American". Oh yeah, right, that applies to Ms. Dickerson, not Mr. Obama.
Posted by: Vitruvius at February 21, 2007 6:44 PMI think Colbert set Dickerson up and skewered her good! But Obama still got a lot of publicity because of the stunt! Remember advertising does not have to link the product to any idea....just keep the brand in the suckers subconscious long enough and youve got em hooked.
Posted by: OMMAG at February 21, 2007 6:49 PMVitruvius, you're my hero! How'd you get the superscript "2" that I was trying for? My HTML didn't work for that...
Posted by: Garth Wood at February 21, 2007 7:10 PMA point of procedure if I may, Madame Speaker. What you're looking for, Garth, are the common extended ASCII/ANSI and UniCode characters, which you can copy and paste into your writing. Here are some of the ones that tend to work well at multiple blogs and with multiple client browser font sets. You may wish to squirrel this list away somewhere so you can use it later:
¡ ¢ £ ¤ ¥ ¦ § ¨ © ª « ¬ ® ¯ ° ± ² ³ ´ µ ¶ · ¸ ¹ º » ¼ ½ ¾ ¿ À Á Â Ã Ä Å Æ Ç È É Ê Ë Ì Í Î Ï Ð Ñ Ò Ó Ô Õ Ö × Ø Ù Ú Û Ü Ý Þ ß à á â ã ä å æ ç è é ê ë ì í î ï ð ñ ò ó ô õ ö ÷ ø ù ú û ü ý þ ÿ Ā ā Ă ă Ą ą Ć ć Ĉ ĉ Ċ ċ Č č Ď ď Đ đ Ē ē Ĕ ĕ Ė ė Ę ę Ě ě Ĝ ĝ Ğ ğ Ġ ġ Ģ ģ Ĥ ĥ Ħ ħ Ĩ ĩ Ī ī Ĭ ĭ Į į İ ı IJ ij Ĵ ĵ Ķ ķ ĸ Ĺ ĺ Ļ ļ Ľ ľ Ŀ ŀ Ł ł Ń ń Ņ ņ Ň ň ʼn Ŋ ŋ Ō ō Ŕ ŕ Ŗ ŗ Ř ř Ś ś Ŝ ŝ Ş ş Š š Ţ ţ Ť ť Ŧ ŧ Ũ ũ Ū ū Ų ų Ŵ ŵ Ŷ ŷ Ÿ Ź ź Ż ż Ž ž Ơ ơ Ƣ ƣ Ʀ Ư ư Ƶ ƶ Ʒ Ǎ ǎ Ǐ ǐ Ǒ ǒ Ǔ ǔ Ǟ ǟ Ǡ ǡ Ǣ ǣ Ǥ ǥ Ǧ ǧ Ǩ ǩ ǫ ǭ Ǯ ǯ ǰ Ǵ ǵ ʿ ˇ Έ Ή Ί Ό Ύ Ώ ΐ Α Β Γ Δ Ε Ζ Η Θ Ι Κ Λ Μ Ν Ξ Ο Π Ρ Σ Τ Υ Φ Χ Ψ Ω Ϊ Ϋ ά έ ή ί ΰ α β γ δ ε ζ η θ ι κ λ μ ν ξ ο π ρ ς σ τ υ φ χ ψ ω ϊ ϋ ό ύ ώ
At the UniCode reference site ✄ www.unicode.org/charts ➾ you can find amazing glyphs, but don't forget they depend on the client browser having suitable fonts. If you preview your comment with a reasonably modern facility, you should get a reasonable idea of what works ❦
(The last glyph in the previous paragraph should be a heart hanging off a vine. It is UniCode character 2766 in hexadecimal, which is 10086 decimal, which can be entered into your HTML comment as: ❦ )
Posted by: Vitruvius at February 21, 2007 8:06 PMOh, bother. I just viewed my last message on Windows XP with IE 7 and the UniCode glyphs didn't work. The extended ASCII/ANSI did. All of them worked under FireFox and Netscape. Sigh.
Posted by: Vitruvius at February 21, 2007 8:20 PMColbert, like The Daily Show,is, at it best, brilliant. On the flipside, did anyone catch that tiresome piece of crap ''1/2 hr. news hr.''on Fox News on Sunday?
Posted by: sourdust at February 21, 2007 8:24 PMOK, I know she is a Liberal, buy everytime I see something along these line I can't help think of Whoopi Goldberg.
When people state they are African-American, her reponse has been "I wasn't born in Africa, never been to Africa, don't want to go to Africa"
Who gives a rat's(sorry, gophers) a** what his lineage is, is he capaable of being PSOUS and the answer remains HELL NO.
Ken
Posted by: KenAinCGY at February 21, 2007 8:28 PMif you really want to see 'Right' ideas spoofing 'libs' then you should watch " The 1/2 Hour News Hour ", on the Fox Network on Sunday nights. first show of the pilot series was last Sunday, with Rush and Ann Coulter as guests ! it was a howl, and the ratings were great, by the sounds of it. i don't care for Colbert because he's a lib spoofing the right, whereas this new show is the Right spoofing the libs !
Posted by: Carl at February 21, 2007 8:52 PMSourdust - I did watch it and it was funny as hell! What didn't you like about it? Again, spoof and satire are definetely terms that come into play here.
Posted by: a different Bob at February 21, 2007 9:23 PMToo strident, too partisan. Too unfunny. Deriding of all people Ed Begley Jr. because he walks his talk? I was underwhelmed.
Posted by: sourdust at February 21, 2007 9:46 PMKate, this is hilarious! A lib comedian spoofing Conservatives and in the process DESTROYING Debra Dickerson's idiot racist ideas. (The death of Blackness? Good God!)
"Would Obama get Black street cred if he were enslaved? Nothing racist, we could make him Jesse Jackson's slave."
BWAHAHAHA!!!!!
More proof that there are some academics so ridiculous they can only be properly interviewed by a comedian.
Posted by: The Phantom at February 22, 2007 10:37 AMsarge here. sarge is laughing his ass off.

"Only if I'm white"
Dead silence
Bwahahahaha
I caught Bill Mahr(sp.) on Leno that night, Bill must have the worse case of Bush derangement syndrome ever.
The man had nothing to say and could not seem to control himself.
He has gone over to the dark side, in a bitter empty all ad hominems teurets way.
He seemed abso-freakin-lutely possessed with hatred for W.
