Votes Of Confidence

Kathy Shaidle;

Female Canadian progressive bloggers are so pathetic they need a man -- that's right, Kinsella -- to choose the Best Female Canadian Bloggers. (Of course, the exercise wouldn't complete without the threat of a lawsuit...)

And because such lists aren't truly progressive if they include data based on measurable performance.

(This was nicely ranted, as well).

Oh...

My observation (and lament) that Canada needs more smart female bloggers - as opposed to the two who, while arguably Canadian and female, aren't smart - produced a big, big response, here, and here. Among other places. It's terrific.

Hmmm. OK.

More - A camelette says "thanks Catnip, but no thanks."
While I appreciate the sentiment, as leader of the dromedaric uprising I feel it necessary to spell out my growing discomfort with the word "smart". It's become a slippery word that doesn't need an act of parliament to be redefined. Spend a little time in the sandbox and you'll soon see that when it strays from the confines of a dictionary it quickly becomes an adjective for "like".

Mr. Kinsella was chosen, in no small part, because of his endearing tendency
to constantly refer to himself on his own webpage in the third person...
a personality quirk traditionally reserved for British Royalty.

I get the sense that WK is looking for some moral support or some cheerleaders! ;)
Of course he could just be looking to change the subject after the trouncing his widdle fwend DiDi has been getting !?

I'll bet that this is killing kinsella.

Kate opens up a can of "whoop ass".

Aren't blogger wars fun?

Posted by: Hans Rupprecht at January 30, 2007 7:10 PM

Hey Kate, now he says that you and Kathy are "...arguably Canadian and female,(but) aren't smart..."

Since I can't respond directly to the guy who says he likes to kick ass in Canadian politics, but who lately only wants to do it from within the echoing confines of his comment-less wank tank, I will respond here.

Warren, its pretty pathetic to us males that you are consistently losing wiener measuring contests to these women. There is wisdom in knowing when you're beat.

Posted by: Karl at January 30, 2007 7:11 PM

It doesn't matter what the graphs show, I think Warren still out-draws you with the aging punker/groupy demographic. It appears you lack sufficient discrimination for the intelligentsia.

Cheers

Posted by: J.M. Heinrichs at January 30, 2007 7:15 PM

I sent an email to Kinsella stating that you rocked, Kate. His response was "Kate's a fruitcake and so are You."
My response was that he's in the wrong business and should have been a comedian.

Posted by: Rick at January 30, 2007 7:18 PM

Why doesn't Warren do something useful like help us put down Jean-Dion humanely?

"Progressive bloggers" is that not an oxymoron somehow?

Posted by: Real Conservative at January 30, 2007 7:18 PM

Posted by: OMMAG at January 30, 2007 7:31 PM

I suspect you admire and/or envy Kinsella a little judging by often you blog about his posts.

Posted by: Jose at January 30, 2007 7:35 PM

I keyed in Coynes and Wells sites as well for comparison, and SDA beats them all. Not bad.

Who?

Hey jose, there is a reason he's called wornout kantsellit.......

Posted by: FREE at January 30, 2007 7:39 PM

Yup. But that's one of those "test-based" evaluations that they dislike so much - because it discriminates against stupid bloggers.

Posted by: Kate at January 30, 2007 7:46 PM

You mean the way leftoids secretly admire George Bush because they can't stop talking about him? Oh, that's different.

When a movie critic pans a film, is he "secretly obsessed" with it?

Get a clue, Jose: Freud = bunk. Leave your Psych 101 to Thanksgiving dinners with your folks.

My IQ -- 135 -- is probably higher than Warren's, too (although not as high as Kate's). At least I know how to read my own stats and have figured out what permalinks are.

Posted by: kathy Shaidle at January 30, 2007 7:54 PM

Wait till you get a load of the nominess he is to judge- some of the suggested contestants have interesting views on the Middle East. How will Warren square this with his defence of Israel. I will give WK credit for that he is a defender of Israels right to exist.

Posted by: Pip at January 30, 2007 7:59 PM

The spikes in Kinsella's graph are created when I talk about him. We consider it traffic charity. Even fascists like me can extend a helping hand to help out a floundering peer.

Like the superior yachtsman who turns back in the race to save a drowing competitor.

The dip in early January was when my hard drive crashed. If that happens again, he's doomed.

Posted by: Kate at January 30, 2007 8:08 PM

spikes in Kinsella's hair are created when he combs it.

Posted by: Rascally Rabbit at January 30, 2007 8:14 PM

According to Alexa.com, Kate, you've been kicking Bourque's ass in traffic as well, at least in the last few months...

Posted by: Bruce at January 30, 2007 8:17 PM

I heard a rumor that Kinsella is actually the genius behind the Conservative "attack ads".

Apparently he's hedging his bets in return for being named Poet Laureate of Canada.

Hey, times are tough.

Posted by: dmorris at January 30, 2007 8:21 PM

David Asper would see the circulation of the National Post skyrocket if he dumped Kinsella and hired Kate as a regular.
I would subscribe for sure.

Kinsella is a man?

Posted by: jhuck at January 30, 2007 8:31 PM

I guess since Kate did not work for PMPM election . She's a dummy by default in his progresive eye's.

I see it as the reverse. You had to be brain dead not to see this guy for the meaningless Political boob he continues to be.

By they way. What is a Women's blog? I mean is there a difference from a Mans? I don't see any. Except Kate gets more traffic than his efforts.

Better topics. More reality. Less rationalization. A Patriotic blog, with a better supporting cast. So to speak.

Just my opinion.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at January 30, 2007 8:51 PM

So would I Joe, so would I.

Posted by: FREE at January 30, 2007 9:07 PM

I used to read Kinsella a fair bit, but not nearly as much any more.

After a while you discover that there's not much substance to the man, despite the bravado. This is true of most outspoken lawyers I'm afraid.

It's a shame really because Kinsella did a great job of hammering Martin and his cronies, but I suspect it was mostly because he was ticked off with Martin, not because he had a deep moral sense that told him Martin was an unscrupulous man.

Remember too that Kinsella worships the ground Chretien walks on, almost literally, and that in of itself speaks volumes.

So on the balance I prefer Kate's blog by quite a bit to Kinsella's. Sure, this blog attracts its share of nuts, but there is a sense of freedom here. A desire to question the world, and get to the truth.

Kinsella is more old-school, the world will be saved by lawyers and Liberals, and the rest of us (engineers, farmers, scientists, businessmen, whatever we may be), are there to provide the tax dollars to support the private Liberal-lawyer club.

Posted by: Sean F at January 30, 2007 9:09 PM

You know what's great about the internet?

People can call Warren Kinsella, former power player in one of the most corrupt governments in modern, democratic history, a doofus, within seconds of him posting something doofus-y.

God bless progress.

Posted by: Larry Weber at January 30, 2007 9:44 PM

I think Kinsella got some curiosity hits for awhile because he was an insider.

He did offer a perspective not seen elsewhere (because of his insider information) and he did have a fairly good grasp of the chronology of events over the Chrétien/Martin 13 year regime.

But he doesn’t have a philosophy, nor did his hero Chrétien. They believe in Liberal power, that’s it.

Now that he hasn’t any insider info to offer, he’s a spent force, he’s as passé as the Berlin Wall, he’s history.

Posted by: nomdenet at January 30, 2007 9:48 PM

I am sure it is just coincidence that Kinsella has become more partisan since the Chretienistas are back in power.

Remember when we were led to beleive that his best interest was Canada as lomg as former PMPM was not leading it. Now that the puppet is leading hi sparty, the gloves are off.

WK, instead of your complaints re: Kate & Kathy, why don't you allow comments like them whereby ALL points of view have the ability to be heard. It never ceases to amaze that the most tolerant (read Liberals) never allow dissent yet K&K put up with the likes of Mclelland, Cherniak et al. When will you?

Ken

Posted by: KenAinCGY at January 30, 2007 9:51 PM

Holy crap, and here I thought the thousands of other folks who frequent this site, as I do, actually like it - think this is a great blog.

Well if Warren K. says I don't, who am I to argue.

Warren if your reading this, do I like Skippy brand peanut butter? I thought it was good, but maybe I'm wrong on that too. Please Warren tell me what peanut butter I like.

Jeeze it just occured to me, perhaps I'm wrong about everything: maybe I don't like warm summer days, or playing with my kids.....

I hope his little committee gets around to those things as well and lets me know if those are, or are not, really all that good.

Posted by: mitch at January 30, 2007 9:55 PM

Kinsella is merely a Simon Cowell Wannabe.

He took himself down a few notches when he appeared before Gomery and acted like a real jerk. He gave the impression he was just too important to have to be there. He was on the same plane as his Idol, Chretien with his collection of Golf Balls.

Too be so flippant, given the seriousness of the situation, was beyond contempt.

He has a tough product to sell but we can't cut him any slack.

Posted by: Liz J at January 30, 2007 10:00 PM

Why is it "progressives" are always afraid to debate? Seems to me that most of these left-leaning female bloggers are mostly unaware of each other's existence, but they all seem to know about SDA.

Posted by: Ken at January 30, 2007 10:01 PM

You would think that a couple of liberal bloggers, who are self admittedly, oh, so smart, would have picked up on the Mensa symbol on Kate's website. Perhaps they didn't know what it was.

Warren K - I would really like to see how you score on this one. And your friend as well.

Put up or shut up - you made the comments on the smarts - now demonstrate that you are smarter than Kate. Or apologize. Or whatever.

Posted by: Neil at January 30, 2007 10:16 PM

Gee, this is all interesting.

SDA has a huge number of readers here in the USA. A lot of Americans know who Kate is.

And Kathy Shaidle, well, she made her bones in America, especially down in my part of the country. She has a huge number of fans down in the Dallas area, and she has even been on the radio here.

I don't know who this Kinsella guy is. Is he Canadian...?

Posted by: Greg in Dallas at January 30, 2007 10:18 PM

HA! How ironic that Kate demonstrates her lack of intelligence in a post where she disputes her lack of it. Any intelligent person would see the fallacy in implicitly asserting that ones readership corresponds with their intelligence. Kate is like the National Enquirer of the blogosphere--trash written by a dimwit for consumption by the dimwitted.

Kinsella typifies a certain kind of male who has trouble with strong women, i.e. those who don't think exactly as he does.

Next he'll be proposing affirmative action in the blosophere to make it more inclusive of non-crypto-fascist females.

Posted by: Drained Brain at January 30, 2007 10:42 PM

I wouldn't take anything Warren K. says personally, Kate.
The man is an arrogant ass who so enjoys listening (and publishing) his own opinions omitting any chance for rebuttal from the "great unwashed masses" like ourselves. Besides, you can't even give anything he says/types any credibility as he refuses to offer up evidence to support his claims.
Keep up the good work, Kate. Your traffic numbers speak volumes of the fantastic work you do.

Posted by: Jan in Alberta at January 30, 2007 10:44 PM

Actually, what we are seeing here is no surprise. Kinsella is not stupid, but he is predictable, and he is a slave to his milieu. When he worked for Chretien, his job was to provide ad hominem attacks. When Martin took over, he kept on doing ad hominem attacks, except against Martin. So long as we shared an enemy, he made nice.

But lately he has gotten into a pissing contest with Kate and Kathy, and he has lost. He has lost because they make real arguments, and they do it well. But he just goes for the ad hominem. Insulting Kathy's appearance, calling Kate a fruitcake, saying that neither of them are smart ….. (yawn)

Stop Warren stop!!! We plebeians are reeling under the barrage of your logic!!! Please, please, please, don't call me a doo-doo head, or God forbid, wave your purple lizard in my face!!

Actually, the funniest one was where he became a thin-lipped parsimonious schoolmarm, clucking his tongue at Kathy's "racist" comments about Obama. On the one hand it fairly REEKED of a limousine liberal trying to hang with the homeboys, and on the other hand it was funny to hear this from the guy who is best known for ridiculing his own caricature of Stockwell Day's religious beliefs on national TV. What a legacy to leave his children. But now, he expects everyone else to play nice.

What's up Warren? I though politics is a blood sport, and all of that. Oh yeah, I forgot. It’s because you’re mad at Kathy, because in response to your petty and mean spirited attack, she responded with real logic, and skewered you.

Just goes to show you, don’t expect big things from small people.

Anyway, his blog is actually all about promoting his mid life crisis fantasy ...er... band anyway. Never heard them, but I imagine the name is fairly descriptive.

Posted by: Karl at January 30, 2007 10:44 PM

Mitch, if you are Conseravtive supporter, you have already been told what you like; beer, and popcorn.

Sean F., I don't know how many people like Kinsella, but they read his blog because he was, and still is, an insider, as mentioned before. Also, you have to read some of the other guy's blogs or you just get out of touch. As I mentioned before, the best Liberal flavored blog I have ever found is Calgary Grit. I have never found an NDP blog that I could read past the first few lines.

That link to rabble where that person, who may not even be qualified to work at McDonald's, argues that math should be eliminated. I laughed out loud. Finding gold like that is why people keep coming back to SDA.

Here's another thing that just came to mind about Kinsella's blog versus Kate's blog.

In days gone by not so long ago there was a web site, name escapes me, where you could post comments in response to Kinsella's blog entries.

I was always amazed at how rapidly the conversation degenerated whenever his postings were discussed. It took no time at all before the thread became laced with profanity and idiotic comments.

Of course Kinsella cannot be blamed for the fools in the world, but it does tell you something about his readership.

You do get the occasional imbecile commenting in response to Kate's entries, but the majority of the comments are entertaining and in some cases they are very interesting.

You can judge a man (woman) by the company they keep, and most of the folks that commented on Kinsella's postings were arrogant, moderately intelligent at best, loud mouthed and generally as rude as they come.

Posted by: ET at January 30, 2007 11:20 PM

I gotta say it is always enjoyable when Kate and/or Kathy wipe the floor with Mr. Kinsella. He is like the Tonya Harding of the Liberal Party. It must be hard to go from being an Olympic contender to a being a professional mud wrestler.

Here is a good joke for this thread. Cheers all!

Here's a prime example of "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus",
offered by an English professor from the University of Phoenix: The
professor told his class one day: "Today we will experiment with a new form
called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair
off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework
tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You
will e-mail your partner that paragraph, sending a copy to me. The
partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the
story and send it back, copying me, and so on until the story is
concluded." The following was actually turned in by two of his English
students:

Rebecca and Gary.

(First paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The
chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now
reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he
liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind
off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about
him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of
the question.

(Second paragraph by Gary)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron
now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about
than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom
he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to
Geostation 17," he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit
established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off
a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole
through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying
out of his seat and across the cockpit.

(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt
one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who
had never had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its
pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress
Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in
her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored
her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days
had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no
television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the
beautiful
things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence to become a
woman?" she pondered wistfully.

(Gary)
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live.
Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first
of its lithium fusion missiles. The dimwitted wimpy peaceniks who
pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had
left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were
determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the
passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying
enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop
them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion
missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his
top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of
Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor,
stupid Laurie.

(Rebecca)
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My
writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semiliterate adolescent.
(Gary)
Yeah? Well, my writing partner is a self-centered tedious neurotic
whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh, shall
I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of F--KING TEA???
Oh what am I to do? I'm just an air headed bimbo who reads too many
Danielle Steele novels!"

(Rebecca)
A**hole.

(Gary)
Bitch

(Rebecca)
F__K YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!

(Gary)
Go drink some tea -- whore.

(Teacher) A+ - I really liked this one.

"My observation (and lament) that Canada needs more smart female bloggers - as opposed to the two who, while arguably Canadian and female, aren't smart"

I believe this is simply Kinsellian code for:

"My observation (and lament) that Canada needs more smart female bloggers who agree with me."

Posted by: JJM at January 31, 2007 6:09 AM

Kinsella and other "progressive" bloggers seem to like to spout off that they support tolerance and freedom of expression and dialogue not war, etc.

Yet they will not tolerate opposing views, they do not permit freedom of expression if it violates their views and refuse to participate in dialogue or debate with their ideological opponents as is evidenced by the statements of Libnip and the actions of Kinsella (in not enabling comments and in pursuing legal action against those who disagree with him).

One word fits this attitude nicely...hypocrites.

For Kinsella, there are a few more words that seem to fit (in my opinion)...but I don't need to bring a lawsuit down on anyone's head so I'll keep them to myself. Suffice it to say that he was intimately involved with the Liberals during their tenure when Adscam and other boondoggles were committed.

They're like the cowardly little boys who hide behind mommy's skirt and shout out insults and empty threats.

Popularity and intelligence or even substance don't necessarily equate but this blog is interesting - and Warren's isn't.

Comments such as 'we have excellent government in Ontario' and 'the wonderful TO Star' are confusing - if he's trying to be funny, it isn't coming across.

I don't care whether women or men are blogging but I'm interested in content.

Which some blogs just don't have.

Posted by: Caveat at January 31, 2007 9:15 AM

(Besides, anyone who knows me knows also that my long-held view is that the blogosphere is undeniably, depressingly, suffocatingly white angry male [something I have deplored, for years, in Google-able speeches, interviews and on this here web site], and that totally sucks.)

Warren thinks his own blog is depressing? He should shut it down...

Maybe if i hadn't lost jobs because I was a white male suffering under racist liberal policies I wouldn't be so angry.

Cause and effect.

What liberal tripe maybe we need an affirmative action plan to enforce fewer white bloggers, or a quota / wage subsidy for women and visible minorities and then the web can be the same hell hole the libs have made kanuckistan.

Then people wonder why canadian productivity is declining.

Kinsella's intelligence level is exhibited for all to see in his top ten choices so far. He listed catnip.

I went over to her site and commented on her acidic and ignorant remarks about the 'baby boomber' post on SDA. The womyn claimed all Conservatives do is take verses from the Quran and use them out of context. In response, I gave her a link to the channel 4 documentary, 'Dispatches' in order for her to hear how Muslims are using verses from the Quran to spout hate in Britains largest and most 'moderate' mosques.

Are Muslims also taking their own book 'out of context?'

As is usual with ignorant and losing Liberals, she ran away, hurling insults and then banned me - not for something I said on her website, but something I said on SDA.

No great loss, however.

This Kinsella candidate for his top ten list had comments running to around fifty on the topic. Two were regulars, the rest came over from SDA. Oh, and then the dope, Jose showed up.

Catnip has no audience, which is befitting of someone who posesses no intelligence either.

These intellectually defective lefty bloggers believe that if they tell themselves a lie enough, it somehow morphs into the truth. And then, just like with the Islamists, this 'truth' can't be questioned.

Unfortunately, they remain our retarded cousins.

"Unfortunately, they remain our retarded cousins."

Unfortunately? I would have thought you'd prefer referring to people you disagreed with as "retarded cousins".

You missed the point Jose, but then you always do. Kinsella came out with his top ten list of female bloggers, listing only the "progressive" Liberal Bloggers. Then he dissed the conservative female bloggers who generate more traffic then he could dream of. Here is a quoute from Michelles World a LibBlog you should be familiar with -

"I wouldn't get bent out of shape about it; Kinsella picked his band mate and business partner as number one. Clearly, he doesn't put much effort or objective thought into the list."

Sort of puts it in context doesn't it Jose, this was an attempt to generate traffic to certain sites since they can't attract it naturally through good intelligent content and discussion. People can only tolerate so much potty mouth before they log off for good.

I think Irwin was being discreet with the mention of retarded cousins, I really think this is all about inbreeding, too much for too long.

Y'know, in defense of Kinsella, he's capable of some pretty astute observations about the Canadian political scene. The problem, though, is that he is the equivalent of a retired Mob lawyer. While a Liberal apparatchik, he was part of an organization that was engaged in (at the very least) unethical and likely illegal racketeering in order to funnel money back to the Liberal Party coffers. If he didn't know it, he at least had to suspect (either that or he is truly obtuse) it was going on. Hell, I was arguing back in the 90's that the Libs were criminally corrupt, just from reading between the lines of what was in the papers. Which, leads us to a simple point- What did Kinsella know about Liberal fundraising practices, and when did he choose to ignore it "for the good of the country"? Just like the rest of them, he chose to be wilfully blind to corruption, and his opinions and observations should be tempered thusly. (Kate-if this post generates heat from Kinsella, you are free to give him my e-mail address. He may be a lawyer, but he don't really scare me. He's free to find me. Hell, I'll even give him my phone number.)
