" show Professions which defy stereotypes"........

Hmmmmm how about a Dipper who has been industrious enough to never have had a government/public subsidy?

If you have to spend so much time telling me what a good job you are doing.... You are probably not doing such a good job.

I am starting to think an election is on its way.
We should shortly start hearing:
Older citizens health care will start getting worse(if thats possible should Saskatchewan! elect anything other than NDP.
Remember the Devine Government in Saskatchewan!
And God forbid Saskatchewan! could have a time change or any kind of change.

I interested to know , what your opinion is of civic boosterism like "I Love Regina" ?

Do you feel the same way ?

Posted by: Chad Moats at January 29, 2007 12:20 PM

Well Chad, I think if City Hall would have spent $1.5 million on... Regina! I think you could have expected the same reaction. Even the progs have to admit this is pretty lame.

Its not the same thing Chad. A civic boosterism campaign like "I love Regina" is more about civic pride. Its hundreds or thousands of people many of them volunteers rejoicing in pride over each others accomplishments. "Grass roots" if you will.

The NDP's Saskatchewan campaign is nearly a polar opposite. It is not about getting together and pride. It is top down advertising from a small group of people to tell me what a wonderful job they are doing spending money that isn't theirs. All they want is the impression that they are doing a good job.

Don't get me wrong I take great pride in Saskatchewan and its accomplishments. I just think most of those accomplishments are despite the current "benevolent" leadership. Not a result of it.

I love Regina is very much top down from the Mayor's office and the costs of the promotion have probably been over $1.5 M. All this shows your bias towards the NDP, nothing else.

Timing is everything.
There is an election coming.

This is a feeble attempt at thinly-veiled NDP campaign ads. Paid for by the taxpayer, of course. "Follow the money" is easy with this one.

The NDP are probably wondering what the brouhaha is all about...They don't think they're doing anything wrong, you see.
Examples such as this provide us a clear lens to view the Lefts' statist mindset.

So, can Saskatchewan voters be convinced that the Government (and by unvoiced extrapolation, the NDP) is wonderful...with ads bought with their own money?
Some will no doubt wear this warm-fuzzy. I suspect most won't, and will resent the cynical ploy.

*Gaak*

Chad Moats said:"All this shows your bias towards the NDP, nothing else."

Chad, it's not bias towards the NDP that makes us cynical about a campaign like this. It is the fact that something like this only seems to get worked on during the lead up to an election campaign. This is advertising not to show the opportunities that are here, but to re-brand the province to show that we're good.

The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce has been working on an action plan for growing the province called Action Saskatchewan for the past 8 years or so. The biggest part of that plan identified the fact that we have a pretty dim view of our province and the opportunities that are here. It also laid out a plan to get the message out that there is lots of opportunity right here at home. That plan had substance. It highlighted success stories in Saskatchewan. It showed that you COULD find opportunities here. I recommend phoning your local Chamber to borrow and read about it.

This plan (Saskatchewan!) has none of that substance. It is guidelines on how to manipulate through advertising, and it's something that we have seen 3 or 4 times in the past decade and a half without results.

THAT'S the difference.

The appalling fact of this election-driven campaign is the cost paid to the marketing company for this pathetic result. Does this company have any imagination?

To pay $1.5 million for the slogan "Saskatchewan!" is highway robbery. The Marketing students at the U of S College of Commerce could have created a far more compelling campaign and for far less money. And remember, this Marketing program has very consistently graduated students who have won many national and international marketing competitions.

If we want to keep our youth in Saskatchewan what better way to design a marketing campaign than have it produced by the very students who are leaving the province.... in droves.

But, then, one can't expect extreme Socialists to know anything about marketing or capitalism, for that matter!

A point of clarification, "I Love Regina" does not follow the guidelines set out by Action Regina, either. Therefore, my point still stands that anyone that protests this booster campaign, yet supports " I Love Regina" is nothing less then hypocritical.
